Once Upon A Time Academy was my son's first daycare/preschool experience after staying home with…read moremom exclusively for his first three years. It was a great experience for us - the staff was kind, professional and my son just loved them all. I really did appreciate the camera system they have in place, so that I could check on him from home during the first few days - no need to wonder if he was having a good day. The school also always had a number of fun, seasonal activities lined up for the kids and I loved getting the most adorable little keepsakes to bring home. I have 2 kids and have checked out a number of schools through the years. This one definitely gets an A in my book!

Please, stay away from this facility…read more My child has been here in Pre/Pre K class. Not long, though, because this facility does not care about your child. Not once do they wash their hands, even before meals. So, from the minute they walk in to when they get picked up, their hands do not get washed. Children use the bathroom on their own with no one watching, no one helping. There are 2 toilets in one bathroom, and boys and girls can use it together at the same time. They go out to play in the playground 4 times a day which is of course not right, since their ages range from 3-5. Circle time lasts bout 15 minutes once or twice a day and the rest, their playing by themselves with blocks or toys. You child can fall and be all dirty, but the "teachers" do not change their clothes. You would think, since they have a camera, they would be aware of the parents constantly checking up on their kids, but no, these teachers do not care. Sanitary is a big issue with most parents , but this place does not think so. I will be filing a report with the licensing department because it is absolutely gross to think that my child is being left at a place where they allow children to eat with hands that have not been washed after going to the bathroom or being out in the playground. We sent our previous child here so we can be convenient, but I have learned my lesson.

They both are saying how well he is doing and adjusting to the structure of the classroom. Also for a large classroom (I think there are 23-26 other students) and only 3 teachers they are doing amazing updating me 1:1. I really like all the safety features that Headstart has put in place. For example: my son can only be picked up by those on the list & we have to sign in and out daily for pickups. We also had to buy a $7 chip that allows only us Parent's & other authorized chip holders to get in the building which is really great! They also practice hand washing & proper coughing techniques and other preventative healthcare measures and precautions which is awesome because it's important to learn those at a young age! I'm really happy so far especially with his teachers they seem really caring and motivated to teach! They are really strict in terms of their program and attendance and they don't really allow unexcused absences. At first I was a little turned off by the MANDATORY home visits from case managers AND Teachers. I did meet with Nicole (Our Case Manager) once and she was awesome, fast, friendly & efficient! She showed up to my house on time, stayed for about 20 minutes had me fill out some mandatory paperwork & asked me what my goals were for my son this year. I also had a home visit with my son's teacher Ms. Cherish and she is just amazing! She's really invested in education and incorporating families into the classroom. She explained a lot of Head Start's philosophy's which are very similar to mine so I believe it will be a great fit! Also the home visits provided great insight into how my son is at school! So I thought it would be a nuisance but it turned out to be informative and helpful!

The owners, director, nurse and teachers are all kind and professional. The entire staff are attentive and friendly toward the children and each other (the best example for children.) Any and all concerns are addressed immediately. The building is spectacular and has a warm, inviting feeling. As we arrived each day, I would hear from the back seat: "there's my school!" Our little guy learned to work/play with friends, how to line up for outdoor time, bathroom/ hand-washing and how to listen quietly during story time, etc. Teachers constantly encourage kindness and the use of good manners. They also provided countless learning activities daily. We will forever treasure this wonderful experience. Thank you to our ACU friends!

What we like most about…read morethis daycare is that the staff and atmosphere are friendly and there is strong communication. Whereas in many places parents are not allowed to enter the building, we were invited to come in, talk, and even sit and play with the kids for a bit at pickup. There was nothing to hide, which is important for building trust. Our 2-year-old (at the time) had a difficult transition. He would cry and scream at drop-offs for 2 months straight. We were called in for a behavioral meeting in the beginning as well, which helped all parties understand the situation better. Sometimes they would call me to let me know what was happening, or I would call and check. After the transition period, he adjusted quite well and became a star student. He enjoyed spending time with the small group of friends and his teachers. As parents, we liked getting picture updates by text or Facebook every once in a while. The teacher would let us know how the day went when we picked him up. There were arts and crafts projects and the teachers tried to find activities that interested individual kids as well (in my son's case, electronics and lights). They even worked with us regarding medical issues that came up. In many cases, they knew more about his ailments than the clueless doctors. The less-than-ideal factors were that within 1 year, his main teacher changed 3 times. This was hard for him. However, each one was wonderful. Food was not included in tuition at that time, which means the extra stress of packing snacks and lunch in the morning. At some points, there was overcommunication, like several emails within a week. Ultimately, this is better than being under-informed. We highly recommend this daycare. Every family is different but it was a great fit for us.

We feel fortunate to have a place to bring our kids where they are safe and have fun. Teachers come and go, which can be frustrating, but it is somewhat expected in this industry, and we have always felt that the various teachers truly cared about our children. There was a period of high turnover where the director and assistant director left that we considered going elsewhere, but by the time we could get in anywhere, things settled down and the school got a new director. Since Jason has been at the helm, the school has never looked better and we have seen lots of improvements. We feel confident about the school under his leadership. The only other drawback about this school is the co$$$t, but it sure is nice not to have to pack a lunch or snacks which are included. I am always impressed with the arts and crafts done in the toddler rooms and also appreciate how often the children get out in the fresh air when possible. I have hundreds of adorable pics I have gotten in daily updates through the years but there were very few I could share while being mindful of privacy.

The only solice we had after learning what was really going on at the daycare was our child being in Miss Alicia's classroom. Miss Alicia and Miss Michelle genuinely care about the kids in their room, provide structure and safety (yes safety) for their kiddos and any additional ones they can take in their room when able to. Knowing that the Regional Director was well informed about what was and had happened at this location and felt it was okay and appropriate to argue with parents and teachers about what was happening at the school has made us lose faith with all Cadence schools.
