Walked in an it was somewhat a full house with customers working on their laptops. The staff was nice and knowledgeable of what was offered. I got a decaf iced mocha latte w/ an extra pump of mocha. I didn't need it but it was really good. For my first time visiting, I'd say it was a nice experience. The space is cute and quiet. We didn't stay long but I can surely see myself going back sometime soon.

This has been one of my favorite weekend spots to get work done. The big windows, wood-focused décor, and nicely spaced tables make it a comfortable place to settle in. I also love that there's a full bar - it makes for a seamless transition from my afternoon work grinds to an evening bubbly celebration! I appreciate that they always rotate a seasonal menu and include non-coffee options like matcha or golden lattes. I've tried quite a few of the seasonal lattes over the years--they're always decent, though not standout. Food here follows the same pattern: never bad, but not especially memorable. Recently I have noticed that i need to watch out for upcharges. I recently ordered a latte with two syrups (modifying a seasonal drink) and swapped whole milk for oat milk, and it came to $9 before tax. Service can be hit or miss - sometimes very friendly, other times clearly overwhelmed. A fun bonus is that they sell local candles that are actually fantastic. I'll keep coming back for the atmosphere, even though this isn't my go-to place if I crave for a good coffee or if I am grabbing a quick drink to go. Service: 3/5 Drink 3/5 Atmosphere 5/5

Delightful little coffee shop in downtown Durham. Friendly baristas, decent sized space and wall outlets, what more could you ask for! Coffee was great as expected and my sister enjoyed her matcha though she needed some extra sweetener. Love that all their matches already come with oat milk.

I ordered an iced American from The Oak House and thoroughly enjoyed it. The coffee was smooth and not too strong. I had quick service and enjoyed the ambiance inside the store, even though I ordered my drink to go. I'd love to come back and spend some time working in the cafe!

This was the first time I've been back to Oak House in like 2 years and had a pretty disappointing experience tbh. I think it's definitely a great place to work, but the drink quality wasn't that good. I got the s'mores latte (marshmallow latte with mocha), which was a seasonal special. It was terribly sweet and I couldn't finish it; I had also asked for it hot, but received an iced drink. Given the high caliber of coffee shops in Durham, I probably won't be coming back here but I do remember it being better in the past. Service was fast but obvs not very attentive. Ambiance is nice, lots of windows, seating, and open space. There's free parking in City of Durham garages on weekends and weekdays after 7pm. 6/10 would maybe recommend, maybe they were just having an off day.

Well came in for tea the first day. Staff was somewhat rude. Came back the next day to enjoy some coffee. Well let's just say rude is complementary. Order the apple cake thing. It was good, but this dude puts it in a bag. Man I am eating it here. Atmosphere is nice besides the what you wanna call it. Thanks to the lady making my coffee, sista I appreciate you.

I walked into a fun coffee spot that looks like college students probably take up all of the tables regularly. It's cozy and relaxed. I wanted an Iced Mocha, but unfortunately, they were out of chocolate. So I grabbed an amazing Iced Macha with a pump of syrup. Delicious! My mom liked her Eggnog drink, though the fact that it was hot put her off a little. The staff seemed happy to be there and were helpful when my mom didn't know what she wanted. I will be back!

Our group needed a little pick me up caffeine stop before dinner so we headed over to The Oak House in downtown Durham. I ordered a hot maple spice latte to share with hubby. Excellent latte! Great flavor with nice creaminess and just a hint of sweetness. I really enjoyed it especially since it was cold out. I would definitely stop by again if I was in the area!

    Iced vanilla latte, Chocolate Croissant

Now that I tried it out many times I decided I will no longer will be making the commute. The area hasn't been very safe the past few times I have gone which has led to me with increased anxiety so it's personally not worth it anymore. The coffee is sometimes excellent like my first impression, but it changes every visit from amazing to tolerable and slightly bitter. Im not looking forward to a palm sized chocolate croissant thats still the original price as the huge ones they used to have. Staff is always lovely, and the place itself is decorated very nice too. I still recommend though, just not for me anymore :(

We hosted three of our nieces and nephews and their partners here for pre-dinner drinks on a Friday evening at 6:30pm. Derrick served us up some coffee and the nice bottle of champagne for our table! Six glasses and everyone toasted our being together again! Well, I toasted with my espresso but it was good as well! The art work on the walls was definitely unique. I had fun trying to name the untitled pieces. Art should go in a new direction to visit a place never before seen! This qualifies! There wasn't any food but the drinks hit the spot! We headed out for a larger family gathering down the street and celebrated life is good with new beginnings!

The wine list is broad and thoughtfully curated, with options that feel approachable whether you're a casual wine drinker or someone looking to try something new. The sommeliers were welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about helping us find something we loved. The space itself is adorable, with eclectic décor and cozy lighting that makes it easy to settle in and stay awhile. It's a great spot for conversation and a relaxed evening with friends. The only downside is that the space is fairly small, and I would have loved to see one or two more lower seating options for small groups rather than mostly high tops. That said, I could absolutely see us coming back for a pre- or post-theater glass of wine or an easy catch-up night.

The service is awesome--our server was super friendly and gave me a great drink recommendation when I wasn't sure what I wanted. It ended up being perfect. My friend and I shared a glass of the 2023 Cederberg Bukettraube (sweet white wine) and got the charcuterie board for one with the truffle salami. That board was so good--I can't stop thinking about it. The toasted baguette slices with truffle salami and mustard? Unreal. It was the perfect little snack to share. We also had the citrus lavender crème brûlée, which was surprisingly delicious. I don't usually go for crème brûlée, but this one was light, not overly sweet, and just had a really nice flavor. I've also tried their shepherd's pie before and loved it--wish it was still on the menu! The vibe inside is moody and cozy, and they've got a cute outdoor patio too. Overall, such a great spot. A little pricey, but I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend checking out Killer Queen.

There's an S-shaped bar along the right side as you walk in with a few smaller tables scattered to the left and ahead, but if you walk around the plantings, there are larger tables in the rear. We had reserved a place for eight, and they fit us in with plenty of room around as a buffer. Few other parties joined us back there, so it was very quiet and great for friends catching up. We tried several wines, but I was a bit shock ed that the list wasn't longer: three reds, three whites, a few rosés and sparkling offerings was all there were. The only Italian red was a blend, which was ok. 60% Sangiovese, it was ok, but I'd have loved a bold Tuscan red like a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo or a full-on Sangiovese. I ordered the wild mushroom flatbread and the pasta carbonara. the flatbread was delicious, and very filling. Half went home for a lunch treat the next day! The pasta was ok, but there weren't the flavors I was expecting. Hardly any meat was in the dish, and it was just a kinda "ok" creamy pasta dish. But the service and the atmosphere was amazing! It's funny - many in this group have met since and we always remark how other places have such a larger wine selection than this one that has "wine" in the name. Maybe they need to change the name if they aren't going to have a wider selection. Still a fun place, just done expect a lot of selection.

Five stars for Liberty & Plenty, a true gem that we didn't even plan on visiting. We were headed…read moredown the street to somewhere else, saw the sign, looked at each other and said, "Let's check this out" and I am so glad we followed that impulse because it turned into one of those stops that completely makes your afternoon. What was supposed to be a quick pop in turned into two full hours of socializing, tasting, talking and working our way through a lineup of spirits that dhows just how much care and craft is happening inside this place. I need to say, Stephanie is a darling. She's not a bartender. She's a proper mixologist, the kind of professional who knows her spirits, knows her history, knows how to read a customer, and somehow manages to be both entertaining and deeply knowledgeable at the same time. She walked us through their menu with the kind of confidence that makes you trust every recommendation, and every drink she made had that extra flourish that tells you she actually loves the work. It's rare to find someone who can make you laugh, teach you something, and hand you a drink that's better than what you expected all in the same moment, but she does it effortlessly. Somewhere between the rum and the vodka, we learned that they're gearing up for a big move to Wilson, expanding from two stills to a dozen, which is wild and honestly well deserved because the quality here is already top-tier and the idea of them scaling up that much is exciting. You can feel the ambition from the crew here, the sense that they're on the cusp of something bigger, and it made every sip feel like you're getting in on a story that's about to blow up. That said, I'm begging. Please, please, please, find a way to keep a tasting room in Durham. You're awesome, the vibe is awesome, the people are awesome, and this city needs places like this where you can wander in on a whim and end up staying for two hours because everything feels and tastes just right. Expansion is great, growth is great, Wilson is lucky to have you, but Durham will really miss you if you disappeared completely. Liberty & Plenty is the kind of spot you stumble into once and then start recommending to everyone you know. If you're anywhere nearby, go. And if Stephanie is behind the bar, settle in, because you're in very good hands. [Review 1073 of 2026 - 4782 in North Carolina - 26252 overall]

And, it truly lived up to the hype. One of the best we've ever had! I also tried two other cocktails made with their house-distilled rum and gin, and both were delicious and perfectly balanced. The seasonal menu is creative and reasonably priced, we were genuinely impressed. The ambiance is charming and cozy despite a bit warm inside (the AC was pretty weak), but quiet and tastefully decorated with velvet couches, exposed walls, vintage touches, and fresh flowers on each table. We had fun flipping through their amazing cocktail book collection on the shelf too. The bartenders were very friendly and offered us focaccia from Ninth Street Bakery to pair with our drinks for free, which was such a thoughtful and tasty addition. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and are so happy to see a micro-distillery thriving in the heart of Durham. Can't wait to return for an official tour and to sample more of their spirits!
