We have been to the Oak three times, and I have nothing but positives to report. First of all, the setting and ambience are truly stellar. The beautiful restaurant is situated amongst trees and horse paddocks, and the floor to ceiling windows offer a panoramic view of sunset and hills and horses. Very romantic and relaxing. The food is classic American high-end cuisine, including: steaks, salmon, chicken, pork chops, etc. Sides are very well executed pastas, potatoes, that sort of thing. They have a full bar, and a good wine list. Last time (Valentine's Day) I indulged in a couple of champagne cocktails, which they made without a quibble, and which were very good. Service is excellent, 10/10, highly recommend. They offer gift cards, which is how we went the first time, it was a wedding gift. First time there and it was great. The food was wonderful and the views were as well. We will definitely be going back. The pricing was good, not to expensive, but there is a little bit of a wait for the main course to arrive, but appetizers came quickly. I had no idea this place existed until a few months ago. Between the online reviews and the people we've asked about the place...we had to give it a shot. So glad we did. We had some great conversations with the family that now owns it. This place had been shut down for a few years and renovated and reopened in 2017. We came here in January on a Friday night. It wasn't crowded so we took our time ordering and enjoyed the music. This particular musician wasn't overpowering and played many popular hits. The food was fabulous. Our waiter Alex (owners son) was funny and informative. The ambience was fantastic too. You can see the oak tree from every table in the place. Supposedly the menu is ever changing. We had the cornmeal green tomatoes, baked Brie, filet, a waiter recommended French toast dipped pork chop, Caesar salad with actual real anchovies, and ended the meal with a bananas foster bread pudding. All yum! After speaking with the owners, I'd recommend following them on FB because they have a lot of wine/beer (and even heard they have a jack daniels) pairing nights. We we're staying at the Pipstem State Park resort and this was the only nice restaurant within miles. Terry the bartender/co-owner was knowledgeable about their bourbon selection, which was quite extensive for being so remote. The food was really good but about average for fine dining. While visiting Pipestem state park we decided to venture out for a nice dinner. We discovered The Oak and we're so happy that we dined here with our family! The restaurant is on a beautiful farm, the service is friendly and dinner entrees included rainbow trout, fried oysters, steak options,and appetizers and scrumptious desserts. Everything seemed to be made fresh with local ingredients, they also had a nice wine list as well as a cocktail list :) Just a note, the restaurant was only open Thursday through Sunday, and reservations are required. A really amazing place! Came back three times in a week, the Brie was fabulous, both as a dessert or a appetizer. The escargots were also very buttery and very very good. What a wonderful holiday night out with my guys! The food was perfectly prepared by Chef Matt Gillespie. Our table had escargot, beet salad, fillet mignon, prime rib, and a Philly cheesesteak. As scrumptious as the entrees were, the red cabbage soaked up the flavor of the red wine demi-glaze from the filet was extraordinary! We have to reduce what would be an across-the-board 5-star rating. Certainly the food and service rate a 5. Unfortunately, this self-titled supper club chose to make the dining experience only tolerable. We were unable to have a conversation during our 7 p.m. Friday evening dinner date due to live music in the dining room. Please know that the musicians were good and the music selections appropriate; but electric guitars and microphones were too much for this small dining room. Outstanding dining in a spectacular setting! The restaurant is named for the huge ancient oak that graces the front lawn and is said to be 600-800 years old! We had a 7pm reservation for 2 people. We sat for 35 minutes before we were even offered water... finally took our order.... waited an hour and 5 minutes and asked for our appetizers, they were out of the ones we ordered. Finally got some bread, had to ask for it. After waiting 1 hr and 45 minutes, we got up to leave and the owner was extremely rude to us. We took our 2 sons and daughter out for a celebratory meal last night at the Oak and had the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. My husband ordered the prime rib and my son ordered the filet. Both ordered medium rare. The steaks came and both were over cooked- no big deal. Sent them back and were having a fun family conversation. A woman holding her purse approached the table and asked what was wrong with the steaks. (We had no idea who she was). We said they were overcooked. She said she looked that them and they were not overcooked to her. We said ok, but they were to us. She said something about being tired after traveling three hours to take care of her mother- a little confused we said 'sorry to hear that', but then she began to argue about the steaks. The waiter came back out with new steaks- my sons filet was completely raw. The waiter began to join in with the woman arguing about the first steaks. He said things like 'I just ate that last steak- it was fine' and 'I can't believe you all are so picky.' My husband mentioned that he is from Chicago and has eaten a steak or two- and the waiter yelled 'does it look like we are in Chicago!?' My husband said 'please leave- we will just take these steaks' as the woman and waiter became heated and continued to argue. My older son finally said 'go away!' The woman (who finally yelled that she is the owner) told him to 'go away' and my younger son started to cry. We ate the edible part of the meal and paid our $178 bill and left. If you are going to charge Chicago prices, you had better not just be able to cook a steak properly, but also be able to handle a customer that is not satisfied with their meal. I know the climate of the service industry is tough now and we are always kind and respectful to our servers. The way we were treated was beyond anything I have ever experienced. We did not let this experience ruin our celebration of our son, but it was certainly a rude interruption to our family time that we value so much. read more

My wife and I had dinner here tonight, what a great restaurant! Our server Lexi was great and very attentive. I had prime rib with fingerling potatoes, green beans, and broccoli. The owners were personally very helpful in accommodating us. They saved us a handicapped parking space and helped get my 92 yr. old mother in and out of the restaurant. My friends and I looked over the menu online and already had figured out what we wanted. We were a large party so we only got to pick from 3 entrees and one appetizer, which is fine, but once we got the meal it wasn't as good as anticipated and didn't even fill us up. We all had to keep changing our drinks because nothing tasted right. Most of us were overall disappointed and recommend eating something other than the 3 entrees we were offered. My parents took my sister and I here for dinner during our vacation. The prime rib my parents ordered was dry and lacking in flavor. My sister ordered their $30 filet and it came back so small that she was hungry by the time we returned to the lodge we were staying in. My crab cakes were minimal at best and the dinner rolls they served were obviously store bought. The servers were more interested in socializing with one another than serving the customers.
