Today was our time time in the Oakroom. We happened to stop by while passing through town. I work in a "dive" bar in Southern California, so we always look for like type places. This place was a bit nicer than where we usually try to find, but Yelp reviews were great. No disappointment. Hannah was just ending her shift, but made us the best kamikaze I have ever had, and that is my specialty and favorite drink. Mike was her replacement, and we had a fun time with him. He was very attentive and responding to all the customers. This is a great neighborhood type bar, where everyone seems to know each other. Wish we lived closer or came here more often, or better yet, had Mike in a bar close to home. Thank you, Mike....Patti and David

We weee enjoying a day trip to Oakhurst and wanted to grab a drink somewhere. This spot was recommended to us by a local where we ate lunch and it was exactly what we were looking for! Super mountain-y inside with lots of wood accents but tons of searing options. You could tell it is a popular spot with locals because everyone was gathered around the bar and hanging out around 1pm on a Sunday. The bartender was super attentive and had drinks out really quick. She was even thoughtful enough to prepare something sweet and fruity for my grandma. A round of 3 pints of beer and a cocktail only cost $24! Super cheap. They have really convenient parking right out front too.

Service was decent, and the ambiance was nice, but overall the experience was just okay. The Peruvian pretzel was actually pretty darn good and probably one of the highlights of the meal. The biggest disappointment, and the main reason I'm giving three stars, was the oysters. If I could rate the oysters separately, I would give them zero stars. They were probably some of the worst-tasting oysters I've ever had. They tasted extremely fishy and did not seem fresh at all. We ordered a dozen and definitely regretted ordering that many. The dipping sauce that came with them was very good, but for the price this restaurant charges, the oysters should absolutely taste fresh. I also would not recommend the mac and cheese. It looked more like something that came out of a box than freshly made restaurant mac and cheese. If you're ordering for kids, I'd probably choose the pasta with tomato sauce instead. There were some good things about the meal, especially the pretzel and the atmosphere, but between the oysters, the mac and cheese, the long wait for food, and the prices, three stars feels fair.

We came in on a Saturday afternoon after the river and were instantly welcomed by Oscar and his wife. The brewery has a wide selection of beers, all brewed by Oscar himself, and he was kind enough to let us sample whatever we wanted. Every beer we tried was excellent. We hung out for a while chatting with him, and even asked if he knew of a place to watch an English Premier League game the next day. The closest was in Fresno--until Oscar went above and beyond. He told us not to worry, that he would open the brewery just for us on Sunday, even though he's usually closed! The next day we showed up, and Oscar not only opened the doors but let us use our camping stove outside to make tacos. We all enjoyed them together--Oscar included! We expected to stay for about two hours but ended up staying close to five because we were having such a blast. Oscar gave us a tour of the brewery, made us feel like family in his home, gifted us a round on him, and even let us put on some music where we sang at the top of our lungs. I know this is a long review, but it's for a reason. Most breweries can feel impersonal--serve the beer and move on to the next customer. Shuteye Brewery is different. Oscar connects with people and shows, through his actions, that he truly cares about making sure you have a beautiful experience. On top of that, he's dedicated to his community, constantly doing outreach projects to give back. Simply put, the beer is great, the atmosphere is warm, and the owner is amazing. This place is a gem, and I'll be making it a must-stop every time I'm in the area.

I won't bore you with the full story, but the hospitality from the Chateau team was exceptional from the moment we walked in, and it only got better once our group of 13 took over the cozy Cellar Bar with the best bartender/mixologist around, Jordan. The menu is already excellent, but the drinks kept getting better as the night went on. Jordan is an absolute hoot and a half and clearly has a deep well of knowledge and passion for his craft. At some point I stopped ordering off the menu entirely and just let him work his magic, highly recommend doing the same. It's been two weeks and our group chat is still talking about the drinks, the jokes, and the genuine care he showed everyone, including quietly checking whether the non-drinkers in our group wanted their lemon drops NA, making sure we had a DD, and singing "Unwritten" with the bride. Our go-tos before we let Jordan freestyle were the Cherry Bloom and the Lychee Martini. Pro tip: ask him about his Fernet Coin. Even without the story, you'll walk away knowing the legacy of the Cellar Bar is in very good hands.

While walking in, I thought to myself "it's gorgeous, why didn't we stay here again?" and then remembered because all of their low ratings as a hotel are due to poor service. The receptionist at the entrance is very bleh (didn't even greet us, she just looked at us so we said hello first ). We sat down and ordered. We were the only customers. The girl who took our order was nice enough but lacked professionalism. She just seemed out of it. She didn't write down our order, but a few minutes later came back saying "wait what did you for your entree again?". I'm glad she double checked, but for the price of the food and aesthetic of the restaurant, I expected better service. I ordered the wagyu burger but wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked - I assume they only cook it well-done because that's how it came. It didn't have the juicy buttery flavor of Wagyu, or really any flavor at all. The bread was good. The fries are phenomenal and I liked that more than my burger Carrots & whipped ricotta was good but not great - very flat flavor profile of ricotta, honey, and carrots. I think this dish could've been better with some acidity like a bit of lemon on the side. The chicken pesto penne pasta was good, but still flat. It would be better with cherry tomatoes or something to give it depth. The pasta was cooked perfectly Despite the chicken being absolutely tiny (approx 4"), it was juicy. Wish there was more of it I didn't care for the butternut squash soup but my husband liked it. It had good flavor but was very thin. Overall the place is pretty, but I wouldn't return as the food was very forgettable. It's a shame that the best thing was the side of fries. I'm giving a 4 due to the food tasting clean/quality.

That is exactly what happened during my recent dinner at Elderberry House. I visited with a group of four, and between us, we had two gluten-free diners and one vegetarian. After a quick heads-up the day before, the restaurant handled our needs with total ease. We went for the five-course tasting menu, and it was incredible from start to finish. We kicked things off with one of the best oysters I have ever had, followed by a beautiful tuna presentation. The kitchen even looked out for our gluten-free friends with a special version of their herbal-butter focaccia that was actually delicious. By the time the main courses arrived, I honestly could not decide if I liked my beef or my friend's snap pea risotto better; every single bite was pure perfection. The cocktails were another high point. My first drink was great, but after chatting with our server, Jordan, I decided to try the Last Word. It featured that hard-to-find green chartreuse, and I am a little annoyed to report that I have a new favorite cocktail that requires such a rare ingredient. The service is what really made the night so special. Jordan was so charismatic and helpful, making sure we were perfectly taken care of all evening. He was so good that I almost worried a second visit would not be the same without him, though the rest of the staff quickly put that fear to rest. Abby was so friendly and responsible for a truly unique but perfect-for-the-vibe playlist, and Chris the mixologist even stopped by to geek out about gin and cocktails with us. From the genuine care for our food sensitivities to the clever touch of the iPad check-in hidden in an elegant binder, it was a night for the books. I cannot recommend this place enough and look forward to bringing my family next!
