A couple Saturdays ago we ended our night at The Pines Bar at The Pines Resort, and it turned out to be the perfect final stop. The space is huge and can easily handle a crowd, with an outdoor patio, a couple of pool tables, a jukebox for picking your own music, and a surprisingly large dance floor. The whole place was decorated beautifully for the holidays, which added to the fun atmosphere. The staff was energetic, friendly, and on top of every order all night long. A special shout-out to Alfonso, he was amazing and took care of our group, and his drinks absolutely did not disappoint. Definitely recommend getting the secret shot if it's available, it was such a fun surprise! If you're looking for a fun, lively spot with great vibes and great service, this place is it. read more

Fun bar, that overlooked Bass Lake! Drinks were good, bartenders were speedy with their service. Very picturesque. I would have loved more "bar seating", they only had a handful of tables inside. Outdoors, you needed to be in the wait list. I can't say enough about this landmark at Bass Lake, but I'll try as best as I can. It's probably my favorite watering hole in the area, and this week proved it. Take nothing away from Ducey's, The Marina Bar & Grill, or The Forks, but if you're looking for a great atmosphere, good pours, a view of the lake, and a piece of history, you've come to the right place. My dad and I came in and were served within a few minutes on a Wednesday afternoon around 4pm. We immediately struck up a conversation with some locals as the nice lady bartender served me a Buffalo Trace and my dad a Coors Original. It was the only drinks we had as we were just grabbing a quick drink while the kids got pizza and ice cream nearby. Low and behold, it was Happy Hour, and because the subtotal was $10.75, we decided to tip our bartender $5 towards the service. What really brings me back here is also the opportunity to get belly up to the bar in the same seats Dan Aykroyd and John Candy during the filming of the John Hughes film, The Great Outdoors. Fun spot. I found the staff to be quite friendly and no issues with security as seen in other reviews. My only annoyance was the big slob and his barfly girlfriend who kept giggling at me as I threw away five dollars in the jukebox. With no music playing, I saw the jukebox and thought, "Let's get this party started!" Little did I know there was a game about to begin... No sooner did I insert my money did jukebox slob pull out his Samsung Galaxy 19 and perform a hostile takeover of the music machine. Apparently, if you buy into the jukebox program, you can select songs from your cheap-ass cell phone and override other's selections. He did so for my entire visit. BRO, I don't mind listening to your tunes and I'm cool sharing, but when you and your crackhead girlfriend move all my tunes to the 2AM slot so you have fun laughing at me, that's not cool. Whatever... Now I know, DO NOT PUT $5 in the jukebox!!! Like everything nowadays, there's a workaround to ensure you're left short of tunes, short of $5 and the laughingstock of two trolls. I had a very negative experience here with my group on Monday the 21st. There was two other groups in the bar at the time, and when our group of 8 people walked in the bartender seemed visibly annoyed. Anytime we ordered drinks, she seemed irritated. My friend and I had one mixed drink right when we arrived, a shot and then about 45 minutes later had another shot. We ended up having a total of 3 shots within our 2 hours there when we were then denied service because "she has never had anybody order that many shot back to back" (i didn't know 2 hours spaced out was back to back). She came outside and gave our group attitude, and then tried to say she never cut us off, she just couldn't serve us inside because "management was watching the cameras" but if someone else ordered the shots it wouldn't matter (this is not what she said to us inside). While management may have been watching cameras, I have never had anyone deny me service after 3 mixed shots and a mixed drink over the course of 2 hours. On Thursday night, a friend of mine tried going and it was the same lady, but was denied entry without even having her ID looked at. Not sure if this was security or the bartender, however to me that seems completely unprofessional to deny entry to someone who is of age just because you suspect they look younger than they are. Overall, I had a negative experience with this bartender, and after chatting with locals they have also had similar issues with her and I think it is in the best interest of this business to look into these issues because it is causing the business to loose money they could be earning. She was there both Monday and Wednesday, but I was unable to get a name. read more

So the pine bar, so my experience is the place for one of the rudest people ever working at a bar. So rude you don't even really want go in. I don't know his name but i'll just call him Paul Blart wannabe. Actually I can't really say that because that man in the movie was actually pretty nice, this guy is completely opposite. The only nice thing about this bar is how nice the bartenders are other than that I don't really care for this bar. Especially when you're washing your hands in the corner of your eyes, you see man's dick. Are you guys really too cheap to put borders up are you kidding me, that's disgusting. Soo much fun going here our first night, met some great bartenders. I wish I remembered his name but he was a young cowboy, he wore a cowboy hat so I'm just assuming. Lol anyways I also met some pretty cool locals who've I made friends with. I love the overall rustic country like atmosphere. Also I will say I read the other reviews about the accusations of racism and I think that's so unfortunate. I'm a Latina woman and felt totally comfortable. I think it's how you portray it going in, the staff and locals mostly consist of Caucasian decent but it's funny to assume that because after talking to some of them I found out they were Native American, Filipino, etc. We are all mixed in one way or the other and as long as we can respect one another that's all that matters. I have been to this bar before and I liked it the first time, as I still do now. The bar is old and classic. Right when you walk in, the place screams country. Pool tables, classic wooden country bar a cute little dance floor to the side, and neon lights that welcome you. Now, I will way, there were a few things that bothered me this time around. For one, the security guard was EXTREMELY rude. Not a very likeable person whatsoever. He was rude to my family when we came in, and rude to me when we left. My boyfriend has a few words about him that I shall not repeat. Bathrooms could be cleaner, and I was disappointed by the DJ, for I had been waiting for my song for some time to come on and she played it for about 30 seconds whereas she played full on songs through and through. After Party at The Pines Bar! Yep, it was pretty much default after the wedding festivities Saturday nite ended around 10pm. We all swapped out our dresses and slacks for jeans and tees to head over to this on-site bar at the edge of the resort. FYI: The Pines is HARDCORE about ID checks, who would have thought. We be carded evvvvverywhere we went and the doorman even used the blacklight on my ID. yo, been a long time since i tried to sneak into 21 and up places, but rock on, door man. Next to him sat a cop (of sorts). Are there a lot of bar brawls in the boondocks? Actually, that makes sense...the lack of internet and cell reception will put any 21st centurian on edge after a while and few beers. Anyhoo, this place does the job for being the only night life on the resort. Bartenders are attentive, drinks are average-priced (mixed wells came out to $5.25), there was a tv above the bar to watch the UFC match (providing the bare min to call this a "sports bar"), and there is a back area for live music and dancing...which of course i participated in :D The place is definitely happening on Sat nite and appears to be a good mix of resort guests and locals. I hadn't gone the nite before but I guess Fridays are on the slower side but have karaoke...some of the wedding party owned the joint then. read more

The conversation died and we noticed everyone staring at us as if we came from Mars. As we sat down at the bar the bartender did her best to not make eye contact with us. After being ignored for some time I confronted her and asked to be served to which she blantantly replied "NO". We tried again and she replied with a lousy excuse. Guy at the door was really nice and friendly and let us in even though I was $2 short on the cover charge. The other guy (big guy) was short with us and super grumpy like he didn't want to be there. I was in this bar, and after three beers I'm chatting it up with the bartender and I've made a friend off to my left. Keep in mind we're all a bunch of white guys. All good company, or so I thought. Every time we visit Bass Lake we have to visit the Pines Bar. It always ends up being one of our favorite afternoons/evenings and it's all due to the friendly and welcoming staff. You'll likely first be greeted by Adrian the security guard who will welcome you with a smile, and is just there to keep the crowds down and make sure everyone is having a good time. He's helped us multiple times with lost items, a dropped drink, or even just taking a great photo. Mitch is the bar manager and one of the hardest working people I've seen at the bar. A true multi-tasker, who will remember you face, and make sure your drink is never empty - he makes you feel like a local. But one of the most familiar faces you'll see behind the bar is Nancy! Nancy has been with the Pines for years and she is always happy to see you. She'll ask about your day, who you're visiting with, and offer you suggestions on what to do in the area. Plus, she makes a great drink! We love to walk in and see Nancy behind the bar. It's nice when a place like the Pines continues to employ dedicated and caring people that make you want to visit again and again. Sweet Jesus, a trip to the Pines Bar is a trip to the most explosively oversexed resort town frat bar in Northern California. That is quite literally probably what it is. When you walk in the front door, your senses are assaulted by an army of tanned & taut youth, mostly confined to the 18-24 age bracket, clutching Bud Lites & mindlessly grinding against one another's genitals while a band of middle-aged long haired dudes cover the classic rock hits of yesteryear up on stage. I visited The Pines Bar on an impromptu trip to Bass Lake. We had a few drinks and played a few games of pool and threw $5 into the "jukebox" (which by the way has a free photobooth in it). Being from L.A., I was shocked at our bill - the outrageous prices.... were LOW! and the drinks were good! My boyfriend and I are staying at the Pines Resort for the week. We have been in to The Pines Bar the past 3 nights. First night was Nancy, second night was Amanda tonight is Mitchel. This place has well priced drinks, is super clean and has the history of parts of the movie "The Great Outdoors" having been filmed here. All of the bartenders have been awesome, personable and attentive, engaging with us and have knowledge of the area and history of the bar and resort. Cool locals scene (Rudy has been coming in for 40 years and has his own barstool with a plaque on it). They are open 7 days a week but the time they open varies depending on the day (4pm is a safe bet) so give them a call and come have a cocktail if you are in the area (check out the signed pics from John Candy and Dan Aykroyd on the walk)! read more

I've stayed in Bass Lake for the past couple of summers. We always make sure to go visit The Pines Bar as we always have wonderful service. It's a great spot to hang out near the lake and enjoy a few drinks. Every time we go in, our favorite bartender is ALWAYS there - Nancy! She is so much fun, very quick to get our drinks (even remembers our favorite ones), and always goes above and beyond for us! We will always continue to stop in when we're in town and always recommend visitors to this bar. One star because I can't give zero. Been coming to Bass Lake for almost 20 years. Used to be a great place. Second summer in a row where they close early and the bartender is a complete ass. We had a big group coming and they closed at 9. This town has gone down hill in a big way and losing out on a lot of income. Party at our cabin instead. Hope with the change in ownership they bring back the town that we love. If you ever walk in this bar and see a skinny doofus bartender with glasses and a sunken in face don't order from him! We walked in a group of 11, paid out $2 a per person cover and went to the bar. My husband orders is 11 shots for my birthday! The bar tender gives us 9. My husband said oh we need 2 more. The bar tender says no I gave them all to you, you took them! My husband then tried to explain that was not the case. The Bartender then replies take your shots and leave! It was insane. Luckily the manager, and security guards obviously knew he was wrong.
