This bar has a great view and we come here every time we come up to Bass Lake. The bartenders are sweet here and the service is awesome here. Will definitely recommend this bar if you stay at the pines

I can't say enough about this landmark at Bass Lake, but I'll try as best as I can. It's probably my favorite watering hole in the area, and this week proved it. Take nothing away from Ducey's, The Marina Bar & Grill, or The Forks, but if you're looking for a great atmosphere, good pours, a view of the lake, and a piece of history, you've come to the right place. My dad and I came in and were served within a few minutes on a Wednesday afternoon around 4pm. We immediately struck up a conversation with some locals as the nice lady bartender served me a Buffalo Trace and my dad a Coors Original. It was the only drinks we had as we were just grabbing a quick drink while the kids got pizza and ice cream nearby. Low and behold, it was Happy Hour, and because the subtotal was $10.75, we decided to tip our bartender $5 towards the service. What really brings me back here is also the opportunity to get belly up to the bar in the same seats Dan Aykroyd and John Candy during the filming of the John Hughes film, The Great Outdoors. I've included some pics of the stars of the movie they have hung up at the Pines Bar. This is definitely a must visit, and when you do, make sure to take your own pics to keep the Great Outdoors memory alive!

Great bar for a small community with a ski chalet feel. They have pool tables and live music on certain nights

On our last night at Bass Lake we had the most fantastic night relaxing with drinks and Jessie, our amazing bartender. The bar was clean as was the bathroom. There was no music when we were there but we were able to play all the songs we wanted on Touchtunes!

Great spot to sit on the deck and enjoy a beer. Pretty decent selection of beer as well.

The perfect lake bar!!!!! We had so much fun and LOVED the service. We sat at the bar and instantly felt welcomed by our bartender, Jessie. She makes some delicious dirty martinis and is very attentive and sweet. We hope to visit this bar sometime in the future. They have an outdoor deck and dance floor!

Soo much fun going here our first night, met some great bartenders. I wish I remembered his name but he was a young cowboy, he wore a cowboy hat so I'm just assuming. Lol anyways I also met some pretty cool locals who've I made friends with. I love the overall rustic country like atmosphere. Also I will say I read the other reviews about the accusations of racism and I think that's so unfortunate. I'm a Latina woman and felt totally comfortable. I think it's how you portray it going in, the staff and locals mostly consist of Caucasian decent but it's funny to assume that because after talking to some of them I found out they were Native American, Filipino, etc. We are all mixed in one way or the other and as long as we can respect one another that's all that matters. Cheers!

After Party at The Pines Bar! Yep, it was pretty much default after the wedding festivities Saturday nite ended around 10pm. We all swapped out our dresses and slacks for jeans and tees to head over to this on-site bar at the edge of the resort. FYI: The Pines is HARDCORE about ID checks, who would have thought. We be carded evvvvverywhere we went and the doorman even used the blacklight on my ID. yo, been a long time since i tried to sneak into 21 and up places, but rock on, door man. Next to him sat a cop (of sorts). Are there a lot of bar brawls in the boondocks? Actually, that makes sense...the lack of internet and cell reception will put any 21st centurian on edge after a while and few beers. Anyhoo, this place does the job for being the only night life on the resort. Bartenders are attentive, drinks are average-priced (mixed wells came out to $5.25), there was a tv above the bar to watch the UFC match (providing the bare min to call this a "sports bar"), and there is a back area for live music and dancing...which of course i participated in :D The place is definitely happening on Sat nite and appears to be a good mix of resort guests and locals. I hadn't gone the nite before but I guess Fridays are on the slower side but have karaoke...some of the wedding party owned the joint then.

We came in on a Saturday afternoon after the river and were instantly welcomed by Oscar and his wife. The brewery has a wide selection of beers, all brewed by Oscar himself, and he was kind enough to let us sample whatever we wanted. Every beer we tried was excellent. We hung out for a while chatting with him, and even asked if he knew of a place to watch an English Premier League game the next day. The closest was in Fresno--until Oscar went above and beyond. He told us not to worry, that he would open the brewery just for us on Sunday, even though he's usually closed! The next day we showed up, and Oscar not only opened the doors but let us use our camping stove outside to make tacos. We all enjoyed them together--Oscar included! We expected to stay for about two hours but ended up staying close to five because we were having such a blast. Oscar gave us a tour of the brewery, made us feel like family in his home, gifted us a round on him, and even let us put on some music where we sang at the top of our lungs. I know this is a long review, but it's for a reason. Most breweries can feel impersonal--serve the beer and move on to the next customer. Shuteye Brewery is different. Oscar connects with people and shows, through his actions, that he truly cares about making sure you have a beautiful experience. On top of that, he's dedicated to his community, constantly doing outreach projects to give back. Simply put, the beer is great, the atmosphere is warm, and the owner is amazing. This place is a gem, and I'll be making it a must-stop every time I'm in the area.

While walking in, I thought to myself "it's gorgeous, why didn't we stay here again?" and then remembered because all of their low ratings as a hotel are due to poor service. The receptionist at the entrance is very bleh (didn't even greet us, she just looked at us so we said hello first ). We sat down and ordered. We were the only customers. The girl who took our order was nice enough but lacked professionalism. She just seemed out of it. She didn't write down our order, but a few minutes later came back saying "wait what did you for your entree again?". I'm glad she double checked, but for the price of the food and aesthetic of the restaurant, I expected better service. I ordered the wagyu burger but wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked - I assume they only cook it well-done because that's how it came. It didn't have the juicy buttery flavor of Wagyu, or really any flavor at all. The bread was good. The fries are phenomenal and I liked that more than my burger Carrots & whipped ricotta was good but not great - very flat flavor profile of ricotta, honey, and carrots. I think this dish could've been better with some acidity like a bit of lemon on the side. The chicken pesto penne pasta was good, but still flat. It would be better with cherry tomatoes or something to give it depth. The pasta was cooked perfectly Despite the chicken being absolutely tiny (approx 4"), it was juicy. Wish there was more of it I didn't care for the butternut squash soup but my husband liked it. It had good flavor but was very thin. Overall the place is pretty, but I wouldn't return as the food was very forgettable. It's a shame that the best thing was the side of fries. I'm giving a 4 due to the food tasting clean/quality.

Service was decent, and the ambiance was nice, but overall the experience was just okay. The Peruvian pretzel was actually pretty darn good and probably one of the highlights of the meal. The biggest disappointment, and the main reason I'm giving three stars, was the oysters. If I could rate the oysters separately, I would give them zero stars. They were probably some of the worst-tasting oysters I've ever had. They tasted extremely fishy and did not seem fresh at all. We ordered a dozen and definitely regretted ordering that many. The dipping sauce that came with them was very good, but for the price this restaurant charges, the oysters should absolutely taste fresh. I also would not recommend the mac and cheese. It looked more like something that came out of a box than freshly made restaurant mac and cheese. If you're ordering for kids, I'd probably choose the pasta with tomato sauce instead. There were some good things about the meal, especially the pretzel and the atmosphere, but between the oysters, the mac and cheese, the long wait for food, and the prices, three stars feels fair.

That is exactly what happened during my recent dinner at Elderberry House. I visited with a group of four, and between us, we had two gluten-free diners and one vegetarian. After a quick heads-up the day before, the restaurant handled our needs with total ease. We went for the five-course tasting menu, and it was incredible from start to finish. We kicked things off with one of the best oysters I have ever had, followed by a beautiful tuna presentation. The kitchen even looked out for our gluten-free friends with a special version of their herbal-butter focaccia that was actually delicious. By the time the main courses arrived, I honestly could not decide if I liked my beef or my friend's snap pea risotto better; every single bite was pure perfection. The cocktails were another high point. My first drink was great, but after chatting with our server, Jordan, I decided to try the Last Word. It featured that hard-to-find green chartreuse, and I am a little annoyed to report that I have a new favorite cocktail that requires such a rare ingredient. The service is what really made the night so special. Jordan was so charismatic and helpful, making sure we were perfectly taken care of all evening. He was so good that I almost worried a second visit would not be the same without him, though the rest of the staff quickly put that fear to rest. Abby was so friendly and responsible for a truly unique but perfect-for-the-vibe playlist, and Chris the mixologist even stopped by to geek out about gin and cocktails with us. From the genuine care for our food sensitivities to the clever touch of the iPad check-in hidden in an elegant binder, it was a night for the books. I cannot recommend this place enough and look forward to bringing my family next!

She personally made us dinner, including an incredible watermelon cucumber salad that I am still thinking about. The wine store itself is beautifully laid out, spotless, and had the warmest patrons and live music the night we were there. Colette was so accommodating for our bachelorette group, and even met us after closing for a drink at the Cellar Bar. We only got a few minutes to chat before she had to head out, but like everyone we met in Oakhurst, she sent us off with genuine warmth, guidance, and blessings for our futures. Whether you're a wine connoisseur or not, I highly recommend visiting next time you're in Oakhurst. Colette and the resident pups make the trip worth it alone.

Her wine bar is quaint, with a larger event space in the back that has local featured artists and various events like karaoke nights. We just stayed at the wine bar itself with no issues. She's incredibly knowledgeable about wines, and made me think deeper about what kind of wine I actually like. She focused more on flavors and aromas rather than just red v white. We got to taste 5 wines total and she offered us full glasses of whichever one we like best. She unfortunately doesn't serve food right now, beyond the typical cracker and cheese. I would recommend getting or bringing a snack before you come. No need to book reservations, just stop in and be surprised. You have to add this to your Yosemite trip list!
