Went here on July 1 with my daughter after doing the harbor cruise for a dollar. We found out about the free entrance to the Queen Mary for Tuesday Evening Happy Hour from a passenger on the boat ride. I forgot her name but what a PLEASANT SURPRISE!!! People dressed up like from the 1940's and dancing to the music. What an experience!!! Something that I will not soon forget. The drinks were good my only complaint is that they don't have much on their happy hour menu as regards to food but it was a very enjoyable experience that I recommend it be tried at least once. read more

While waiting for a tour of the Queen Mary, I decided to grab a bite to eat and drink in this bar. The tacos were good (not great - just good), and the buffalo wings were small and also just okay. The menu only includes appetizers so not a huge selection. I took advantage of the 50% off a 2nd appetizer after checking in on Yelp. Based on the food I'd only give it a 2 but the views are really nice and I like the setup in the restaurant (which is why I give it 3 stars). I found it very loud in the bar and the music wasn't very impressive. Remember to get your parking ticket validated so you only get charged $10 instead of $20. read more

I have friends in town and they wanted to have a cocktail at the Observation Bar. So I went to the website to see what the entrance/parking situation was. The website simply stated there were no reservations and seating in the bar area was first come first serve. When we arrived to the parking lot, my friend noticed that it stated parking was only $10 with validation from restaurant, does buying drinks at bar also get validation we wondered? But once at main entrance we were told we had to pay $45 per person to enter the ship! This was not on the website, and is quite frankly ludicrous. So you lost three paying customers, and I'm sure we aren't the only ones that think this fee is ridiculous. read more

We visited the Observation Bar while on board awaiting a tour to begin. Although I overall did not have a pleasant experience aboard the Queen Mary, I did enjoy this bar. Our server was great; very attentive without being overbearing. The drinks were tasty, but I honestly can't even remember what I had. The food was pretty underwhelming and, as mentioned, the overall experience on the ship was poor, but I'm still giving the bar four stars because I enjoyed the drinks and service, plus you can't beat the ambiance and décor of the bar. After walking all levels of the ship, stopping to take pictures and strolling in shops, we decided our first night on board should be spent at The Observation Bar. They weren't very busy when we arrived, but they certainly filled out as we sat there enjoying our drinks and appetizers. Apparently, it was karaoke night, and people were expecting it. I'll be honest, though. When I first heard the DJ announce the karaoke list was open, my thought was, "Time to go!" Everything inside me rebelled against the thought of sitting in a bar, listening to drunk people warble on. But then I realized, we'd be sitting in a bar, listening to drunk people warble on! How epic is that?! But I digress. We ordered a couple of drinks (I started with a Dark And Stormy cocktail [spiced rum, lime juice, and ginger beer]), while my husband decided he needed a half yard of Guinness, stat! We also ordered the Cured Meats and Artisan Cheese plate and the Margherita Pizza to share. Karaoke night was warming up quick at that point, so our drinks came out just at the right time. The Dark and Stormy was good and could've been very dangerous had I continued on with that drink. As it was, though, once I finished the cocktail, I realized I wanted a Guinness of my own. Just a pint, though, cuz I'm a lady. The charcuterie plate was decent, though I admit I didn't touch the meats. My husband loved 3/4 of the meats presented but said that one had a flavor he just couldn't enjoy. The cheeses were mix of cheddar, pepper jack, goat and smoked. We got a small handful of Marcona almonds and a mound of stone ground mustard to supplement. Oh, and there were olives. Lots of olives for my husband to consume. I realized I chose poorly with the Margherita pizza. It was limp and bland, and altogether uninspired. Our waitress was sweet and funny (and running around in antlers with a painted nose, which set the scene). She got busy as the bar started to fill, but she never forgot us. This was the second Meet at the Mary Tuesday happy hour I have been. The last time two weeks ago we had real glasses- yesterday they had PLASTIC! When they brought the drinks to the table in plastic glasses we all looked at each other. Really? People dressed up, a lounge singer, beautiful ambiance and then a martini and other drinks served in PLASTIC? The photo (click on to see both drinks) was taken when the drinks first arrived at the table ( no we did not have any yet!) the drink in the back is a martini and the small red drink in the front is one of their specialty drinks. We did order food- and it came out on regular plates with real forks, knives and black napkins. Really QM these cups are just CHEAP- I suppose you get points for not being in a RED SOLO cup. Back in the days when "R.M.S. Queen Mary" plied the Atlantic Ocean, the Observation Bar was the First-Class lounge, for the rich and famous. Observation Bar retains it's 1930's Art Deco decor, and original artwork still hangs above the bar. I actually had the pleasure to visit this fine restaurant a couple of years ago, and I'm just getting around to posting on Yelp. Observation Lounge is pure, 1930's Art Deco, and features original furniture and original paintings above the bar. Today, I felt a just a little bit out of place, with the particular version of English I speak, several of my fellow diners were from England and Australia. On this early Friday afternoon, I seemed to be the only American on board! Observation Bar offers a small selection of appetizers, such as chicken wings, hummus dip, shrimp cocktails, egg rolls and meat and cheese combination plates. I opted for a plate of "Queen Mary Chicken Wings," barbecue style. (You can choose between barbecue or spicy.) For $10.00, you get 10 wings, three celery sticks, and a small cup of Ranch dressing. Like the draught Dos Equis beer, at $7.00 a pint, it's priced on the high side, but the wings were delicious, the atmosphere was stunning, and the experience was priceless. You get what you pay for, and at the Observation Bar, you get atmosphere, quality and class. Observation Bar is a great place to relax, enjoy a drink, or in my case a couple of beers, nibble on delicious pub-style appetizers, in a stylish, sophisticated, 1930's Art Deco atmosphere. This place is amazing! Love the old fashioned ship vintage theme, the layout, the decor, the seatings are all very old and classic, beautiful! We picked a window table, a very cute blonde waitress come to us very shortly after we sat down, greeted us friendly and brought us the menus, I ordered a bloody Mary first, had to get some drinks on right away, the drink menu is very interesting, many Queen Mary cocktails from old times, old fashioned classics, they even have Vesper! A lot of restaurants or bars can't make that drink because they don't carry Lillet, a French wine and liquor. Hubby loves that drink, I don't care for it, cause I don't like Gin. The small bites menu is good, a little bit of everything for everybody, I ordered olives and veggie egg rolls, hubby ordered meat trio. The olives were so yummy, juicy and salty, perfect to snack on, the veggie egg rolls were amazing, very delicious. Hubby liked the ham a lot, great with crostini and mustard. I ordered more Bloody Mary, along with Grey Goose shot and martini. They make very strong drinks, great generous pours, very impressive! The food and drinks were just perfect, we took time to enjoy a sunny beautiful afternoon there, relaxing, cozy and pleasant. The service was great, our waitress was extremely attentive and fast, it was getting crowded in the late afternoon, glad we got there early to be able to enjoy some quieter and quality time. Very disappointed in this place. The service is absolutely horrible! When I ordered a margarita our waiter gave me this rude look then asked to see my ID. He never came by again after our drink order, he was horrible. We wanted to order food and more drinks so each time we had to get up and go to the bar to do that. We ordered chips and salsa and BBQ wings. They were both good-average. Later on about 9:30pm we came back because my boyfriend just wanted to buy a cigar. Apparently they didn't have a cutter so the bartender cut it with a knife and did a terrible job but was kind enough to offer him another. My boyfriend cut it himself this time and it was perfect. Forget the Ghost Tour- come here for the ultimate Spirits experience. The rules change now and then, so check ahead. Sometimes you have to pay a deposit to get to the bar, other times you need to pay a price that goes toward your bar bill, sometimes it's free after a specific time, other times you have to answer riddles three from a troll, and other times the only way on is to wear a fireman outfit and run past the guard holding a bucket of soup yelling, "No time to explain!" The bar is the prettiest thing on the boat, unless you count that bloodied Marilyn Monroe character there for Dark Harbor n Halloween, but I have issues. It's classic and chic with art deco style, with true history being the first class bar of the leading transatlantic cruisers of the cocktail age that once ferried WWII soldiers. So technically this bar is on the National Register of Historic Places. Beat that, Panama Joe's. (Though to be fair, Panama Joe's signature smell of beer-soaked rubber mats is on the National Register of Historic Blecch). Great views of the harbor and all of your selfie captions can be "I'm on a boat!" TIP: Parking is FREE if you spend $20 or more after 6pm. Which is easy because that's 1 1/4 of one drink. Otherwise, parking is $8-15, unless you take the free purple bus from downtown (Passport D- you know you like to hop on the D) or take the Aqualink (a boat, which beats this bar out as best in Long Beach). Karaoke 9-1 on Fridays and entertainment 9-1 every Saturday, which is usually a DJ. I really like DJ Tanner. Becky and Darlene come to see him almost every night. read more

I used to visit the Observation bar on occasion about 20 years ago. It was very quiet, and I was often the only patron. Not so this Saturday night. I was staying in one of the original staterooms for the night, and my wife and I decided to check the bar out for a nightcap. It was around midnight, and we were lucky enough to nab the last table, and just in time. The mood was already raucous, with loud music and dancing, but then three separate post wedding groups came in and simply jammed the place. I can't even recall the last time I've been to a bar where the partying was so aggressive, by so many people. It was fun for people watching, but a little much for me. What I really love about the place is the decor. It's all original art deco done to the extreme, intended to impress the only original guests allowed to gather in the bar back in the 30s; the first class passengers. I looked up what the fare would have been back in the day, and a first class stateroom was about 70,000 bucks in today's dollars. Aside from the beautiful decor, the views are fantastic. Huge windows look out onto the cityscape, which is just as good at night as it is during the day. They also have an outdoor seating area, if you need a bit more space, and there are lots of tables out there. Go for the uniqueness and history of the bar, but don't count on stellar bar food. Can I live here? Because I want to live here. I want to be alive and live here, I should clarify, I don't wanna be one of those haunty ghosty things because then you can't enjoy the beverages! This place is nothing short of historical, classical, and downright intriguing. Placed at the stern of the QM, you'll find a great menu of old timey drinks and some snackage that you can enjoy while you look out upon Rainbow Harbor. I had a ridiculously good rock melon cocktail as well as a nicely-prepared mint julep and if I had a magic wand, I would use it to wish myself aboard right now (because suddenly the wine I'm enjoying isn't as enjoyable, thinking back to the Observation Bar cocktails...). The reason for 4 stars and not 5? The prices are a bit steep. Yes I know this is a tourist location and most certainly a novelty, but it is way too damn easy to rack up a $70 check with two people drinking two cocktails each and sharing a spinach dip. Also, the service isn't as top notch as you would hope for. The ladies helping the tables seem a bit...jaded?...they're just not as excited to be there as I wished they would be. Oh, side note, it looks like you can take your beverage to go. I saw quite a few people strolling the (original wood, didjaknow?!) decks with wine or beer in hand. Beautiful views with a historic flair, just one reason to come visit The Observation Bar. The Queen Mary is arguably one of the largest attractions in Long Beach and what's a visit to a city's largest attraction without a cocktail. What I love: The decor of this bar sends you back in time with it's beautiful architecture, craft cocktails and occasional live music. They always have some interesting specials that fit the character and charm of the era when Queen Mary was at the top of it's game. If you prefer to stay in the present, they also offer a full bar with a few decent beers on tap. The view of the city skyline is one you won't find anywhere else unless you headed off on a cruise ship. What I don't care for: It's not exactly a hop, skip and jump away. You will definitely need to drive (and pay for parking - $8 with validation), take a Lyft/Uber or ride the water bus over. The glass on the deck is most definitely weathered and somewhat obstructs the amazing views. The prices are a bit steep but it's obvious you're paying for the experience more than the actual booze. Overall, I love bringing my out of town guests here for a cocktail or two. It's worth the adventure to arrive a little early and walk the ship. read more

We got a mai tai and a cosmo and if there was any alcohol in them it was super secret hidden alcohol. 61 dollars later for two drinks that we had to wait for when there were maybe ten other people in the place, it was a real let down. Cool spot for the view. Go for happy hour - really good deals. KEEP IN MIND, however. It costs $30/person to get onto the Queen Mary before 6:00pm. I stayed overnight on the Queen Mary and wandered into the Observation Bar for a late night drink. The bar itself is beautiful and offers great views of the downtown Long Beach area. They had a nice selection of beers to choose from. My bartender was Lida and she really made my night for me. She was welcoming and I found out she was from Cambodia. I had visited there once and I enjoyed hearing stories about her country from her perspective. She gave great service and went out of her way to have conversation with me (despite an annoying patron next to me). This is a nice laid back bar with a cool art deco mural on the wall. read more

Well, I am biased since I ADORE my beloved Queen Mary. I have loved her since I was a child. She can do no wrong in my book. So it stands to reason that I love the Observation Bar. It takes me back in time. I kinda lose myself when I am here and sitting at the art deco bar, or in a cozy little table. I like to get a martini and imagine all the women who lounged here before me. Of the whispered conversations from the past, or the lingering energy of boisterous laughter from eras gone by. I wouldn't recommend the food here. I can't say the drinks are super strong (unless you get friendly with your 'tender). I can't say there is a trendy, young, hip crowd. But you get an intersting mix of vacationers from other continents who offer a friendly chat. They do have a happy hour. And there is a magnificent view and breeze out on the deck. We paid $15 each to have drinks at the bar and tour the Queen Mary. Music was way too loud and lame! I thought the Queen Mary would have classier music such as a jazz band in order to match the elegance of the ship. We were sorely disappointed that we were unable to order food after 10pm! We each had a drink and we were planning on staying there until 2am! How can a drinking establishment not serve food when there is alcohol involved? It should be illegal! I felt they were encouraging us to drink and drive. It was unacceptable! If they stop serving food at 10pm but the bar is open until 2am, there is a 4 hour period in which customers must stop drinking and try to sober up somehow. Perhaps they expect everyone who hangs out at the bar to get a hotel room there? The consistency of the drinks were all over the place. My 1st drink had zero alcohol in it and was way too sweet. My second drink tasted awful and was undrinkable! My friend's drink was really excessively strong for a mixed drink. His brother's drink was ok... We drove all the way from Huntington Beach since our friend was visiting from out of town and we all haven't been to the Queen Mary before. We would've gone elsewhere if we knew this place didn't serve food! There should at least be one place that serves food at the Queen Mary. However, there weren't any options! We inquired about room service but was denied. Apparently, they will not serve room service to the bar and after 10pm, our server had to get the manager's approval in order to give us complimentary peanuts. There are also no vending machines for snacks. I was very disappointed by the lack of services offered. We asked to speak to the manager and our server told us she did not know where he was! We had to spend a $45 credit in drinks since there was no choice in getting anything else. Service was very slow. The bar was quite busy due to an event on the ship, however, only one server was working. This really ruined my experience here and I will never be back! read more

I love art deco and this bar has original art deco design from the days when the Queen Mary sailed the seas. Plus an incredible view. Beautiful no matter where you look both inside and out. I had a couple of vodka & sevens which were proportionally mixed well. Great service. And they had some great live jazz playing the night I was there. I'll definitely be back to enjoy the atmosphere of this place. read more

Having drinks on the boat were amazing the atmosphere the cleanliness is great very disappointed with the bartenders cleanliness the staff the hors d'oeuvres were wonderful highly recommend I have to try another spot here on the Queen Mary read more
