We had a great experience with Okoboji Expedition. We rented bikes for my wife and daughter so we could ride the trails around West Okoboji Lake. The two guys working were very helpful and professional. The rental rate was very reasonable and they didn't hold us to a timeline. I called halfway through our ride to let them know we were going to be longer than 3 hours (which is what we had initially told them). His response was something along the lines of, "Don't worry about it man. Enjoy your bike ride and return them when you're done. We close at 6 pm tonight. If you can't have them back by then, just bring them in tomorrow morning. No worries." Whoever is running this business is doing it right. We will definitely come here in the future and will will recommend to other people. Wish more businesses were managed this way. read more

My husband and I went into this place to look for bicycle seats. The store is nicely laid out and has a good inventory of biking clothes and accessories. The staff is another story. At no point were we asked by anyone working there if we needed help. In fact, our presence was not acknowledged in any way, shape, or form. There was one employee speaking to another customer while we were there, and a couple other guys doing.....? The one talking to the other customer couldn't be bothered to even say, "I'll be with you shortly ". Yikes! If you go to this place, they'll likely have what you need but don't expect timely (or any) assistance. Inexcusably poor customer service. read more

I had a terrible experience last summer with the Okoboji Expedition Company. I brought my bike in to have a shifter installed (I purchased the shifter separately) and to get the shifting system tuned up. I stopped in three or four times over the course of two weeks before it was complete, and when I tested it out in the parking lot the chain fell off after the first shift. This shows they didn't even attempt to tune up the shifting like I asked, or they would have figured this out before I picked it up. I brought the bike back in and they took 30 seconds to tune it up - all seemed fine. I took the bike out the next day for a ride and the chain continued to fall off. I brought it back in and they said my rear derailleur was old and needed to be replaced - it worked just fine before I brought it in. I feel like I paid them $60 to install a single break cable and ruin my derailleur. Needless to say this was not money well spent. I encourage anyone reading this to either learn to fix their own bike or take it elsewhere. read more

My friends and I visited Okoboji for the first time this past weekend. We wanted to see as much of the lakeshore as possible so we decided to rent bikes for a trip around the lake. The owner of the store was extremely helpful as we are not very knowledgeable about bicycles, and we had never seen the trail before. He recommended hybrid bikes for the 20 mile ride around the lake. The bikes were absolutely perfect for the ride. They were in fantastic condition and seemed brand new. Great service and great bikes for a phenomenal ride. read more

This year, I had our bike broken down for shipping. Okoboji Expedition did a great job, on time and with a smile.

My colleague and I needed some specialty cinch straps to hold down a windsurfer for transporting. Upon arrival we found a worker to ask shortly even though it was busy in the store. He brought us to the back and showed us two separate kinds to choose from. They had a ton of biking gear and some kayaks and outdoor items. Cool friendly atmosphere. Neat! read more

Complete jerks. Needed air in bike tires and when walked in store first thing they said was "you buying anything here". Rude rude.

As an Okoboji local with four bikes - from a Huffy cruiser to an S-Works Tarmac - but not much knowledge about the mechanics of my bikes, I continue to trust these guys with any issues I bring in. They're patient and willing to explain the maintenance needed to get me out riding the trails again. The recent change in ownership has really helped - upbeat guys, clean shop, and quality service with a 1-2 day turnaround time. read more
