Music is good and service is also good. Problem is the food is the worst I have had in Ireland in the last three cities. Fish and chips are a traditional dish. Here, It is good if you only like fried crust. Also the hostess makes you feel like she is doing you a favor by giving you a seat. We asked for a table and the hostess said she would look. Never came back. When we saw her walking the floor, we asked if we were ok. She said there were no tables and we would have a 40 minute. We asked another hostess, who said fine and seated us right away. Our group wanted to try it again and it was exactly the same. Guess they thrive on tourist, who will settle for anything. It's very loud, but very fun!!! The bee is cold the wine is okay. The music upstairs was a blast. Dances the Irish jig with a local who was celebrating his retirement. Great fun!!! The food just average. We had the fried Cork cheddar with onion jam. It's was great but would have been a better with a couple of slices of bread. I had the salad, it was average. You come to Ireland to eat salads let's face it... but I needed a break from all the meat. The Irish stew was good, again average, the roast chicken was better. This was my first time visiting Cork and someone recommended The Plunkett. The atmosphere was cool, was able to watch a live performance. If you're in Cork, I'd recommend stopping by this pub. It's pretty big and has a lot of seating both downstairs and up. They also have a train you can trigger to run for 10 minutes by hitting a switch in the lower bar. A fun gimmick! The live music is also great - when I was there they had traditional Irish music with some dancing by a few kids as well. Nice to listen to, and great beer. Excellent food, good prices. I had the Rotissiree Chicken with mash and gravy. The chicken was hot, tender and had a great flavor. The mash potatoes were wonderful. I followed it with apple pie for dessert. Again, the pie with ice cream was fantastic. Loved it. We were walking around and picked this place at random. One person with us was vegetarian so we were having a hard time finding an irish pub to eat at that would also have veggie options. This place had more veggie options than we expected (3 or 4 but still most had 0!). The atmosphere is very relaxed and they play music in evenings. It's 2 floors don't get deterred if it's busy I'm outside and 1st floor. 2nd floor we found plenty of seats. Favorite item : lamb burger (daily special) and vegetarian soup. Veg soup came with some amazing soda bread for dipping. The soup is more bowl size then cup. They also had an avocado sandwich that sounded like it couldn't be filling but apparently it was. They also had step dancers perform several times during their 2 hour session. We were also pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food they served. Go here if you like mediocre food and horrible service. A waitress will ask you for you drink order and then never bring it to you. Definitely a tourist trap. They tell you to come here and the food is not the best. But the entertainment and the place was very neat. Dark lit restaurant and very cozy and cute. Passed through Cork for dinner, while on our way north. The Oliver Plunkett had good reviews, so we decided to try it. I would say the food was pretty standard, but overpriced. The food did come very quickly, which was a plus. The biggest turnoff for me (and why I would never go back) was a very rude bar tender. I paid the bill and advised I wanted to pay in Euros. Well, he ran my card through and chose for me to pay in USD (HE CHOSE...I did not). After he completed the transaction, I noticed the 3% fee for paying in USD, and told him I had wanted to pay in Euros. His response was, "Well it's not that big a deal." While the 3% did only add a few more dollars to the total bill, that was a few more dollars that didn't need to be added had he listened to me and processed the payment in Euros like I asked. Went for lunch with the family on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Was seated quickly and efficiently but then waited for 10 minutes before the waitress reappeared. Ordered burgers for the hubby and teenager. Fish and chips for me and soup and bread for the little ones. Food came very quickly (was quite surprised how quickly) until we tasted it. Worst meal we have ever had in Ireland. Am convinced all the food was prepared the night before and warmed up under a hot plate. Hubby was extremely disappointed and decided that was the end of our trip to Cork. Do not eat here. Maybe have a quick drink to get out of the rain but food very disappointing. read more

It is a big place in the center of town and my friends and I each got something different so that we could try it. The Shepard's pie was good, the veggie pie not so much. I think if they had tried for more of a veggie version of the shepard's pie it would work a lot better. The sweetness was a bit too much for an entree. If you like live music it seems they have that most nights. I don't remember the other things I tried but overall the food was a little hit-or-miss. Beer selection was decent though not among the best I tried in Cork. We were only there for a night but I think I wish we had tried a smaller more focused restaurant. read more

It only took 80 years, but someone finally though a good name for a bar on Oliver Plunkett Street would be The Oliver Plunkett. Formerly home to Scotts, the new bar is really good on weekends. Live music, nice smoking area, excellent bar staff. All in all, worth a look on a busy Saturday night. read more

Loved this pub! It was a rainy day in Cork when Kelly S. and I wandered into The Oliver Plunkett based on the recommendation of our hotel concierge. We quickly ordered two pints of Guinness to warm us up. While listening to the live band (who played a majority of covers of American songs), we enjoyed good conversation and threw our extra coins in the Movember donation bins on the bar counters. Took 16 minutes from the time we walked in before anyone came to acknowledge us at our table. People who came after us were served first. Our food came within 10 minutes and it was good but we literally did not see a server again the entire time. Never offered a refill on drinks, never offered water. Left after an hour and quite thirsty but unwilling to spend another dime here. It was my first time coming to this place and I was really excited to sit outside and have a drink with my girlfriend after a long day. We were waiting in line for 10/15 minutes and it was really chilly outside so we were just getting our masks on to go inside. Next thing there was this 6ft bouncer, he seemed very intimadating by the way he was giving us dirty looks. We were just about to give him our name and he refused me at the door for wearing a tracksuit pants, I at first thought that the man was trying to have a joke and I asked 'Are you being serious?' Then he came as close as he could to my face and told me ' Yeah no tracksuits on Saturday nights.' He didn't apologise or try to even recommend any other pubs that would allow us in.
