I'm surprised this place has bad reviews ... went in on Saturday morning and were greeted right away. After being greeted my boyfriend and I went to the back to be seen by Dr.Wong. First time customer and check in with paper work was roughly about 20 minutes. Dr.Wong is very professional and also has this superb laugh ! My boyfriend came in for a new prescription. Dr.Wong was very informative about his eye sight and prescription and made us feel very comfortable! I would definitely recommend an appointment with her :) . Valerie was our tech and she was a sweetheart! Very patient and attentive to our needs and concerns. For a first time customer I would definitely recommended this place. The style of frames for men has a good selection unless your looking for something 400$ or more haha. But for women the selection is moderate. They also have cute frame styles for kids . I was referred here after a HORRIBLE experience with my previous optometrist. I was really hoping that I could finally find somewhere that I would be comfortable coming back to year after year, and this is definitely that place. Dr. Zhublawar and the staff here are so helpful and thorough. I can't really get around too well without my glasses or my contacts, so it's really important to me that I have a good doctor that I can trust to take care of my eyes. And the best part? I read all the nice reviews and called them today, at 5:20 - 10 mins before their close. She answered and said she was attending another customer. I waited 8 mins so it's just 2 mins before they close and thought to myself 'Imagine if she hangs up at 5:30 - that would be so bad'. Guess what - she did that. So they depressed me pretty soon. 5 stars for Dr. Pope but 4 for his staff due to not having phone etiquette. I love coming to this place for my eye exam and fittings but I have referred a few friends with the same exact insurance plan (coworkers) and the front desk claimed they werent covered and billed them full price, it was corrected a week later after I looked over everything and told my coworker to go back and get reimbursed. I just bought another pair or glasses and some contacts and once again Dr. Pope was awesome. He is very nice and actually talks to you throughout your visit so it is never awkward. The second waiting area is a cellphone dead zone which sucks because they dont have wifi lol so if you want to check your benefits online do it before you get there! read more

I have been a Kaiser patient for a really long time so I was dreading having to find new doctors once my insurance changed with my new job. The Optometry Center is very close to my house and got decent reviews so I decided to give them a try. There is ample parking both on the street and in the lot in the back, the staff were all friendly and helpful, and the office was clean and neat. The only drawback that I found with this practice is that the selection of glasses was fairly limited. I was able to find something to suit my needs, but it was definitely smaller than I was used to at Kaiser. After I got home from my first visit and reviewed the receipt for my glasses, it seemed as though I had been overcharged. On my next visit I asked if another Technician could review my insurance coverage to what I had been charged and she discovered that I was in fact overcharged. She quickly corrected the charges and offered to refund my money, but I opted for an account credit so I can pick out some new sunglasses on my next visit. ...But the real draw to The Optometry Center is Dr. Tsang. She is amazing!! So down to earth and appears to truly care about your eyes and vision. She has been working with me for a few weeks to try and find the perfect fit and prescription for my new contacts. My prescription is really bad so wearing my glasses outside of home is not an option for me. Finding a contact that is comfortable while at work on the computer all day and outside of work is very important to me. Thank you Dr. Tsang for everything! read more

The staff members and technician at this office are extremely friendly and professional. They explained the process of handling my insurance and paper work in detail. In addition, Dr. Bui took the effort dilate my eyes even though I did not have a reason to. If it weren't for Dr. Bui, I would not have known that I have CHRPE. Dr. Bui went above and beyond as a doctor. -1 one star for the glasses selection, but the overall service is more than what I can ask for. read more

i've been a patient here for a while now and although the actual doctors are really professional, and respectful SOME of the technicians and front desk people aren't. my mom and i came in on the weekend, beforehand though we called about our insurance. we wanted to know if they could check if it was active the young lady said she couldn't check, that only one specific person could and she wasn't in the office. she suggested we call the insurance directly and THEN we could come in. that's exactly what we did, we verified it with the insurance , drove to the office and the girl says "well i already spoke to you guys on the phone and told you what to do so you're going to have to wait until next week" and my mom says "yes but you said to verify with the insurance and then...." and before my mom could even finish explaining the girl rudely interrupted and said "yes but i had already told you what to do" first off please be more clear when speaking on the phone about what to do. and second off have manners. don't EVER interrupt someone when they're speaking its rude and unprofessional. you're the face of the office and you're giving it a bad reputation. and third work on your customer service skills. when you speak to people like that some people might stay quiet but some might not. to be completely honest after that experience i don't want to come back here . i don't want to give my money/time to an office that has people like that working for them. read more

I've visited Dr Pope for many years,(10+) initially my mom took me there for eye exams and glasses, When I got my own insurance I chose to continue to come here becuase Dr Pope is a really good optometrist. He's very professional and he took the time to talk to me about what's going on with my eyes (I have stigmatism) and every time I went there for my exams I was happy. Their eyeglases prices are reasonable and they have a very good variety of them. Their staff is also nice and knowledgeable. I still wear glasses but no longer go to him because I moved out of the area so now its too far of a drive to still go to him, If it wasn't for that he would still be my optometrist. read more

I absolutely love coming to this office. I've been seeing the optometrist here for two years and the staff here are fabulous. They are kind, helpful and very patient. They have a great selection of glasses all priced well. It is very obvious they care about you during your check ups. There is plenty of street parking and seating for when you're waiting. I liked the actual appointment itself, but i just moved and needed copies of my retinal images sent to my new optometrist due to concerns for glaucoma. I called and they said they can only send the notes but not the images because there has been something wrong with their software for months and they don't know when it will be fixed because it is not people ask for often... so what i take that to mean is that they aren't actively trying to fix it because they don't care about it. I'm disappointed with the lack of customer service in this case. read more

Love this place. My husband, kids and I have been coming here since our optometrist retired and we have no complaints. Patty was with our old optometrist and she is great. Dr. Pope is awesome as well. I went in for my appointment with my 8 year old, 4 year old, 7 month old and my 6 year old niece and he made me feel very comfortable having them all waiting there being kids. Dr. Pope is very thorough, informative, and friendly. As someone who has been through many optometrists and also examines eyes as part of my job, he is the best optometrist I've been to! I tend to ask a lot of questions and he answered all of them, even addressing some before I got around to asking them. He takes the time to explain what he is doing and why and what you ought to be aware of so you can make informed decisions. I have really thick prescriptions and besides the routine eye exam he took the time to talk about the proper type and fit for contacts and glasses for me, he took pictures of my eyes (both internal and external), explained what we were looking at and what I should look out for considering my health history. You walk away feeling well cared for and that he has a genuine interest in maintaining the health of your eyes. I would definitely recommend him to anyone I know. Fortunately my insurance covers his services but I would also pay out of pocket if need be. Also the Optometry Center where he works has a great website with a lot of informative links and it is very easy to schedule an appointment online. I have been a patient of Dr. Pope since the day he opened his practice. I have recommended him to countless friends over the years and they have all become lifelong patients of his. I always have thought him to be the best Optometrist, but one day I had an opportunity to speak with a well respected Ophthalmologist in the area, and he told me it was his opinion that Dr. Pope is probably one of the top 5 outstanding knowledge based Optometrists in the entire state. I find Dr. Pope to be extremely thorough, personable; he takes his time with his patients, is up to date on all the latest medical information and procedures on eye care. His technicians are well trained, well educated and extremely versed in helping you select and fit your new lenses and frames. Having moved out of the Bay Area, I still make the trip to Hayward every year for my eye exams and more frequently for any other eye care needs I have. They.are.awesome! Yesterday while getting ready for work, it started to feel like I had something in my eye. I did all the usual things, eye drops, rolling my eye around, rubbing it (big no-no, I know), and nothing helped. By mid-morning when my eye was watery and hurting and it was difficult to work, I decided I'd better go to the doctor. The Optometry Center took all my information, checked my insurance to give me a price range of what I would owe for the visit, and gave me an appointment within 45 minutes. I'd never even been there before! There was no wait, everyone (office staff and technician), was super friendly and helpful, and Dr. Bui was very knowledgeable and friendly. Turns out I had (have) a small scratch on my cornea :( I have no idea how that happened, but I'm very fortunate to have found this office! I received a thorough exam, explanation of what's happening with my eye, what steps I'll need to take, instructions on how to use the prescribed eye drops, and what I can expect as my eye heals over the next few days. All questions answered, before I asked them. Nice! While I was checking-out with the friendly and helpful office staff, Dr. Bui came out and gave me a coupon for the eye drops he had prescribed. When it's time for my next eye doctor appointment...this is where I will be going. And my eye...it's still a little sensitive and achy, but better than yesterday. read more

This is my second time coming here. The first time I would give them 5 stars they were excellent accommodating professional. Needless to say I really enjoyed my experience the first time around. Today is my second time coming here and I'm only here to pick up my glasses. The front desk person had me sign in 20 minutes later I see two clients called in front of me. I told her when I came in last time I was told there was no wait for glasses that I can just come in and I would be the first one taken care of in front of appointments since picking up my glasses and adjusting was a very quick process. They also told me something about a drive thru between 9 to 5. The girl in the front desk responded with you will be seen as soon as a technician is available. I told her a technician was available several times already and other people were called in for appointments. Appointments take much longer of a wait than picking up glasses. She kept insisting for me to sit down and wait for a technician I said know I'm going to stand here so I'm not overlooked and the next appointment is taken care of before me. She then told me appointment to get seen before anyone picking up their glasses. Eye and ask her how many hours will I have to wait until all appointments are taken care of so I can be seen? She called somebody else and finally got me seen 25 minutes later. What happened to the great hospitality from my first appointment promising me to be seen right away when I pick up my glasses instead of having to wait before all appointments go ahead of me. I work 9 to 5 and I cannot come randomly through the day I work all the way in Richmond. I thought the young lady had no idea how to handle my complaint and after probing and being repetitive she finally got me help. Maybe they need to hire more people I don't know. I'm not very happy and not sure if I will come back again. read more

New to the area and needed an exam. Yelp brought me to The Optometry Center, and I couldn't be more pleased! Dr. Pope is a fun, great doc. It was a very thorough exam (probably the longest since I was first checked as a kid!). His staff is friendly and didn't pressure me into purchasing glasses or any of the other upsells I've dealt with in the past. I have been a patient of Dr. Pope for over 4 years. I still see him (and pay cash!) instead of going to Kaiser for eye exams. He is very knowledgeable and has never rushed me. He takes the time to answer my questions until I understand the information. When I saw him in January of this year he showed me views of the blood vessels in my eyes on the computer. While showing me he explained what would be troublesome and why I was fine. He has a great website with links to lots of articles too. He owns the practice at The Optometry Center. There are other doctors there as well but I have always seen Dr. Pope. Everyone on his staff is very caring which I really appreciate. Business hours on Saturday too. read more

I still go to them for annual check ups. Dr. Pope and staff have always treated me with respect and have listened to my vision concerns. I live close-by and have been coming here for a few years now. I recently had an insurance change so I started to have my children seen here also. Overall it's ok. My son and I both had an experience with staff being not so friendly. But, normally they are (maybe the person we got was having a bad day). In my opinion they do not have a good selection of frames. The last two years I have come here to get my exam and purchased my frames elsewhere. My son also had the same issue finding frames and actually used a pair of my old frames and had lenses put in them. I like the fact that they have late and Saturday appointments because that works well with my schedule. However, I think I will search for another Optometrist. read more

The Optometry Center customized both a glasses and contact lens solutions for my unique needs for reading, tennis, and driving. I have severe nearsightedness and astigmatism, and the Optometry Center evaluated various options to come up with glasses and contact lens solutions that work well. My children also have received very good eye exams and glasses options from the Optometry Center. All 3 of the optometrists at the Optometry Center listened to our needs, addressed our concerns, and provided customized solutions. I recommend the Optometry Center for people that have difficult to solve vision issues. read more

A few family members and I went here a few months ago for eye exams and glasses. The doctor was friendly and nice, and we had a nice visit picking out our frames and such. They said that we'd have the glasses before 2 weeks but they didn't get them in until 4 weeks later. The person that we dealt with also took our check payment but then called me later to say that I'd have to come back with a card for some reason. Then 3 MONTHS later I got a call from her saying that they didn't charge us enough and that I had to give them $60! If it wasn't for the front desk staff I would give this place 5 stars, but I will most likely go somewhere else in the future. read more

Dr. Stephanie Tse is great, easy to talk to, friendly and professional. The rest of the office staff isn't that great! As I was looking for frames I kept picking up frames that was in the $200 - 300 range. The lady know the insurance budget was up to $150. The lady that was assisting us with the frames was getting on my wife's nerves; she was useless to us. I found on the other side of the room frames that was in the price range. I over heard the employee saying to the other that they wanted to stay within the insurance budget. For myself on top of the insurance I paid out of pocket approx $250 (total $520 wife and I) - office visit, frames, bifocal and transition. When I got my glasses at work I couldn't read the whole drawing without moving my head side to side, outer parts of the drawing was fuzzy. I told them I use a computer all day and read drawings. The following day I went to back to the office and told them I would like to go with single vision glasses. Make sure you make up your mind to get bifocal or single vision glasses. If you decide to go with bifocal and bifocal doesn't work for you and then go back to single vision glasses you will NOT get any money back (price difference bifocal to single vision glasses). The excuse that was given to us was we billed your insurance already, really- I was pissed. Also, the receipt we got was at first was very generic it listed cost and total. It didn't break down what the insurance paid. Will I got my single vision glasses two weeks later. I could read out of them however the next day I notice that the glasses didn't get dark in the sun, they didn't do the transition. I'm fed up with them with not getting the difference back from bifocal to single vision and not having the transition that I paid for. I'm sticking with Costco. read more
