I'll start by saying, home-made, family recipes are always the way to go. The original egg boasts on their menu that they create home-made family favorite dishes, some even being original recipes. I am a huge fan of eggs Benedict and they had a delicious sounding one with turkey, avocado, bacon and HOME-MADE hollandaise, which was delicious!!! I added asparagus and it was definitely one of the best eggs benedicts I've ever had. It was served with a side of cheesy hash browns which was a sort of home-made hash brown casserole, also delicious, and tasted like a family secret. I will definitely be back here for breakfast the next time I visit my grandpa in Sarasota! Thanks for a great meal. Another positive was they had really cute art displayed all over, that you could purchase. I'm a huge art fan, so this pushed it over the top for me. First time here! I'm not sure what to say here. We came in for brunch but left feeling very awkward. First, the food. I had corned beef hash, eggs, French toast. Hubby had cheesy potatoes and croissant sandwich. All of the food was just okay. Nothing spectacular. Here's where it gets weird. When we sat down we immediately noticed that the place was not busy but not entirely slow. The waitresses were all heard speaking badly about the owner and potentially being "cut" and not making any money that day. I mean LOUD and right next to us. We then heard the owner shout "Ok somebody needs to leave!! Who is it going to be?!" All of a sudden everyone is scrambling around and almost in tears. These people looked so oppressed. I couldn't stand it. My hubby finally called our waitress over and asked her if everything was ok and who was the lady slave driving everyone in the back. She stated it was owner and "that's just the way it is." I felt so horrible for these people. Having worked in the restaurant business I know how it feels to not know if you will be able to make enough to pay your bills or not and having superiors without empathy. Needless to say we tipped our waitress generously and left. I will never return to this establishment. I really wish I can leave this place a great review. I normally like everything about this restaurant and the food is delicious but today I was disgusted by their safety measures especially during the pandemic. I literally watched this waitress seat a couple at a table and she noticed dirty cups on the table and all she did was take the two tall water cups, wipe the table with her hand....her bare hand and then proceeded to seat the people anyways. She left dirty forks and dirty coffee mugs on the table. Now those two customers didn't say anything but I would've said something for sure....how disgusting. Where are the safety measures? I mean come on I would expect a lot better from them. Update on my own table. I got sat at the table and it looks like they wiped it so I'm happy with that. Nine of us were seated at a table that really only should have sat eight, then three of us had our meals split across two plates making for a very crowded tablescape and contributing to the problems we had when a large fresh-squeezed orange juice spilled over some of us. (The spill was rapidly cleaned up.) My OJ was good, not too sweet, and the Manasota Bay omelet (bacon, ham, sausage, cheddar) was good (though maybe not as good as IHOP's, which might be a little greasier.) Food:4 Music: 0 Let me be clear: the food here is good, and the service is fine. The problem is the MUSIC. When you walk in, there is pleasant background music coming from the overhead speakers. It is not too loud and quite nice. However, the staff in the kitchen has their own music which they play very loudly. This rap and hip-hop is fine for the cooks in the kitchen, but I'm guessing most of the restaurant's patrons prefer the pleasant music from the overhead speakers, which is drowned out by the much louder selections from the kitchen. Isn't the owner on site? Or a manager? Why would they let the kitchen music be so incredibly loud? Do the cooks or staff know about ear phones or airpods? Of course they do. I'm not against anyone listening to music that keeps them motivated and happy, but the customers need to be considered, too. Having two music tracks playing at the same time (one from the overhead speakers and the other much louder from the kitchen) is just inexcusable, and quite surprising. I'm sure the manager or owner doesn't think the kitchen hip-hop music is the right music selection for the customers... it's just a way to keep the staff happy. So here's an idea: Give your staff headphones and keep the atmosphere more in tune with your actual customers. read more

Cheerful and colorful atmosphere, clean and inviting. All the things you want for breakfast. They were crowded but we were served quickly. Located on Clark Rd, only a few miles from 75, makes this a good location to meet for breakfast or lunch. I chose an egg sandwich on a sesame bagel. The bagel was fresh, the eggs a bit under seasoned but ok. Fruit or taters on the side. The taters are a mix of sweet potatoes, purple and regular and was tasty. Fruit was fresh. I like coming to The Original egg. They great you with a friendly smile, and the quick wait staff makes an effort to please. The manager is accessible and friendly. However, the A/C is very loud...like there's a blower about to go out...very irritating. The restrooms aren't as earnestly attended to as they should be. I had corned beef, something less than tasty. Everytime I come to Siesta Key I eat here. I love the breakfast and the atmosphere. I liked it even better was it was across from the village. For breakfast we all got the Brandon's Fiesta Skillet. It was cheesy and delicious. The hasbrown casserole here is my favorite. My parents who come here more than I do recommend the eggs Benedict (several versions to chose from), cheese blintz, or the French toast. They love the raspberry pancake but say that it's huge so just get one. For people who are staying in town, they offer a rewards program of sorts. Not sure exactly how it works, but be sure to ask if you plan or coming several times during your stay. read more

This is one of the best breakfast places to eat! When visiting family out here from Orlando, we usually always try to grab a bite to eat here. Everyone is super friendly, the food is yummy and they even have gluten free bread, which is a plus for people work food allergies. Tried the original egg (the broken egg) cafe while in town visiting friends. We were a party of seven on a weekday morning. Even though we did not have reservations we were accommodated quickly and seated within minutes. Drink orders were taken quickly while we waited for the other half of our group to arrive. The menu offers many choices with both breakfast and lunch options. Prices seem a little higher than chain breakfast options in the area. But the decor was more personal. The restaurant is decorated with artwork from local schools and some of it is for sale as well. Even though it was a busy morning our orders came quickly. Portions were plenty. Spoiler alert- one pancake is the entire size of a large dinner plate. We sat inside but there was some seating outside as well. I would say the broken egg is good for small groups and children as well. The child in our group was given a kids menu, coloring book, and plastic cup with lid. All in all we had a good experience. I ordered the Siesta Key Omelette--not too bad, felt there was something missing from it-maybe i should have added some salt to it :) My husband ordered the Casey Key Omelette and loved it. Grabbed breakfast at the original egg with a group of 6. Lucky for us we got there early enough before the big Sunday brunch crowd. The staff also sat us at the table before the entire party arrived which was very much appreciated. I had the sampler - colossal blueberry pancake which was great and not too heavy and thick like many pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, and fresh fruit. I thought everything was great. Really cute place for breakfast. We decided to sit at the bar to watch soccer highlights. Waitress did not make us wait at all and we ordered our drinks as we were literally sitting down in our chairs. Decided on the mimosas with light OJ. It was the perfect way to start the meal. I ordered the skinny omelette and a side of their cheese casserole. I loved the omelette but would ask for them to hold off on the garlic cloves next time. The cheesy casserole was to die for. We also had their Banana Walnut Strudel French Toast which was delicious. Portions were perfect for sharing. We had high hopes for this place, but the meal ultimately fell flat. We realize FL is hot, but after our party of 7 waited for over an hour to be seated outside, we were blasted with heat from the kitchen exhaust. This became a serious problem for one in our party who eventually had to have her food boxed as she waited for the rest of us in the car with the AC on. The main problem here was the service. One waitress accidentally bonked my daughter on the head with a stack of plates she was carrying, looked over, and totally failed to apologize. When grandma mentioned it to the hostess, the waitress came back and denied that she had done it, rolled her eyes, and walked off. Really? Our waitress was friendly enough, but lacked knowledge of the menu. Coffee was weak. One in our party received her Benedict with a side of sour cream and NO hollandaise sauce. I ordered the veggie skillet without eggs or dairy, and was brought creamy, cheesy potatoes with veggies on top. It was brought back to the kitchen to be remade, and I was treated to a $9 plate of stir-fried spinach, onions, and sun-dried tomatoes - tasty, but 1/4 cup of food was not worth the ticket price. Toast was yummy and the kids enjoyed their 3-star pancake, but the huz was disappointed in his "blackened" grouper sandwich (the grouper was grilled, but lacked seasoning). The manager was sympathetic to our many issues and credited the table 30 percent. This was a nice gesture, but we won't be returning to The Broken Egg. Too bad. read more

We've eaten here multiple times and have never had a bad meal or bad service. It's nothing extraordinary (hence three stars) -- just standard breakfast and lunch fare -- but it's always tasty. Our most recent visit was this past Sunday, Memorial Day weekend, peak brunch time. They were packed to the gills, but said they'd have us seated within 15 minutes, which they did. We were over by the kitchen, so I could see the operation at work, and there was no down-time -- cooks and waitstaff were all going as fast as they could. In this instance, they could've benefited from having a food runner or two -- the wait staff was having trouble keeping up with the kitchen while tending to their tables (drink refills, checks, etc.). Our waitress, though, was on top of it as she possibly could be, friendly despite how insanely busy she was, and managed to take care of us completely. That was the busiest I've ever seen them, though. Most of the time, we're seated immediately and are in and out quickly. We consider it a good, dependable option for breakfast and lunch.
