I came here to relive television history For those who are unacquainted with the arrest heard around the world - Snooki got detained on the beach and was carted away into a Tom's River police car right outside this fine establishment. I briefly remember seeing a sign for a "Jersey Shore Cheesesteak" during the arrest scene and I was immediately intrigued. What is a "Shore Steak" and how would it measure up to its older, more mature, and more famous Philly analogue. For those who haven't been - this is what a Jersey Shore cheesesteak is like. Imagine a hybrid pita-esque pocket filled to the brim with tender beef, perfectly spiced onions and peppers (from a can of course!! You can't have it any other way) and these delicious, crunchy balls filled with sharp cheddar cheese. This is everything a sandwich is supposed to be. I don't care if you have high cholesterol - you NEED this, even if it may kill you. In a way, Snooki being arrested was a blessing because it led me to this place. Everytime I'm in seaside (which is usually once every 3 years) I will be here. read more

As Boardwalk food goes - and not having the patience to the neighbor across the street "Steaks Unlimited" I thought I would try out The Original Steaks. There is some debate as to who is the original in Seaside but regardless, I thought I'd give the competition a try. Keeping it simple with Cheesesteak all the way included potatoes (Italian Style). Prices are same as everyone else in the area. Steak itself was very good, bread fresh, peppers & onions not overcooked and sliced provolone was used for cheese. Sodas didn't bog you down with ice and the young guy behind the counter even offered me a refill on the Soda That is definitely a 1st. In short was it a "GREAT" cheesesteak no, but it was as good if not better than Steaks Unlimited and other boardwalk stops except for my go to "MIDWAY". Solid stop here! read more

Excellent steak sandwiches! Well seasoned meat served hot and delicious. They claim to be the original even before Philly, while I doubt that I do know I enjoy these more than the ones I got in Philly. The service is excellent, quick and efficient and they have round picnic tables out front where you can sit and eat them. I got the original cheesesteak! You have the option of peppers and onions. I found mine to be dry but my boyfriend got the jersey special ( has the cheese balls IN the cheesesteak) highly recommend! The breading was full of flavor and it tasted so good in the cheesesteak. Mine was dry and not a lot of cheese.definitely pay the extra for the cheese balls. The price was 9$ for a regular cheesesteak. Small drink 2$ and 3$ for large. The bread it came in was nice and soft too. read more

Seaside Heights famous for its "beach, an amusement-oriented boardwalk, and numerous clubs and bars" is also home to one of the most popular reality shows to be filmed "The Jersey Shore"...yeap the one with the crazy out spoken good looking girls Snooki, Sammi "The Sweetheart & JWOWW WOOW lol filmed their weekly shenanigans. But when it comes to food "The Original Steaks" has one of the best cheese steaks sandwiches you will find anywhere... You can get it with Onions & peppers on a California Bread for only $7.50 or the works for $8. It also has these cheese balls that are insanely good. CASH ONLY !!!!! I used to be a die-hard Steaks Unlimited girl but I can honestly say this place is 10000x better!! First of all- the food is just better. The meat is never dry like it is at Steaks Unlimited. The cheesesteaks have more cheese and flavor. Everything is delicious. Second- you can't compare the customer service. The awful people at Steaks Unlimited will scream at you, throw things at you, curse at you, and kick you out for simply asking for an estimated wait time. The Original Steaks employees always greet you with a smile and go above and beyond to make sure you have a good experience. They recognize regular patrons and do what they can to take care of them. Third- the wait time. Steaks Unlimited has one person making food no matter how busy it is. You are guaranteed to wait an insane amount of time. The Original Steaks usually has 3-4 people working and these guys are like a fine-tuned machine. They work in an assembly line fashion and can crank out 4 cheesesteaks in under 5 minutes. At Steaks Unlimited, food sits waiting for the awful crusty old woman at the register to pass it out. It all gets cold and soggy. At The Original Steaks, you get your food within seconds of it coming off the grill. It's always fresh and piping hot. Finding this place was a total blessing!! I'll never set foot anywhere near Steaks Unlimited again. read more

Best cheesesteak in the world. Amazing service with great employees. We waited out in the rain and it was more then worth it. But, you have to go to the original, the brother of the original moved next door and made a new restaurant. So go to the little shack. Didn't understand the hype People rant and rave about this place and I was so excited to finally try it but the best thing about the cheesesteaks is the bread. It's soft like a cloud and fresh as heck BUT the cheesesteak itself was disappointing. I have had much better at much lesser places. I guess the commodity is the bread is different. This establishment does not deserve money with the way they treat customers and employees alike. It would be time and money better spent across the street at Steaks Unlimited. The man taking my order was yelling at a customer for asking for a fork then threatened to "fing kill him" for also asking for napkins. *For reference*, I had not been drinking. As I relayed my two cheesesteaks, one mozzarella stick order to be met with impatience and rudeness while asking my friend if she wanted onions on her cheesesteaks. Long story short: this is not a good experience to end any night nor vacation. I was leaving with my fam after a nice weekend at sea side planning to enjoy some more steaks in the car on the way home.....screeeeech, not so fast. The guy taking orders was soooooooo rude. I rolled up next to the rest of my family to put in my order, so it could get on the grill and start cooking while we wait to pay. He stared at me and asked me "are you with them? You have to wait". Huh? Well good morning to you to. I decided, ignore that just get the steaks and enjoy the last moments of our vacation. It got worse from there. This guy who would not give us his name was sooo nasty, he ended up refusing to make my brothers cheese steak because my bro didn't want his lettuce and tomato cooked and that's the way he does it so he's not making it. We were all amazed. Then he starts talking to his partner in Spanish and laughing. I said that's not cool, you know we don't speak Spanish and we are customers and you are ridiculing us right in our face. One of our party did speak Spanish and started talking to him. My bro who's sandwich it was started asking him to please make the sandwich. The cook says with his hand up, I am not talking to you, I am talking to the lady. What?!!! I am so disgusted I will never eat there again. You can not get your sandwich with any of your own preferences. If you don't want it the way they always make it, go somewhere else. This place is also delicious and has very similar pricing and options as Steaks Unlimited across the street. Direct competitor, you really cannot go wrong. Delicious fresh and hot. I may have preferred Unlimited Steaks across the street better, BUT there is very little difference between the two, again I am only comparing the steak sandwiches here and nothing else. Cheap, affordable, and the quality is here no question, this place is a steal right off the boardwalk around the corner from The Beachcomber. read more

Awesome cheesteaks located a street off the boardwalk. They serve their cheeseteaks on a half doughy roll and you can request different toppings such as peppers, onions and cheeseballs. A plain cheesesteak will run you $6.50. You order straight from the window on the sidewalk and can walk inside if you want sit and eat. I just left original steaks having a terrible experience.. I was leaving seaside with my family after a 3 day vacation and decided to stop there and eat on the way outta town. We had steaks there yesterday and they were really good... so why not. I walk up to order with my mother in law and my sister.... my wife and son and my sister's kids are wating in the cars. The cook (this guy has three gold teeth. I say that purely for discription since he wouldnt give me his name) starts off with a crazy attitude telling us to slow down the orders one at a time... we are saying the orders slow but he's just looking at us and not moving.. I'm saying to my self this dude is really rude. He just didn't understand English well, but he's being rude. My sister is a firecracker, so I'm telling her to chill out don't sweat it . So I ordered two cheesteaks with onions peppers and mushrooms and I ask for lettuce and tomato. So now the sandwiches are almost done and I see him throw tomatoes on it while it's cooking! Huh!.. I say no!...take the lettuce off ..i don't want the tomatoes cooked.. he looks at me for at least 20 or 25 seconds while the tomatoes are still cooking. He obviously doesn't understand me. So I motion for him to take them off and he does. Then he grabs some lettuce and throws it on the grill too! .. then I'm saying no take of the lettuce.. you put the lettuce and tomato on after you cook it. Then he's getting pissed at me and started talking in Spanish to the guy working with him. Luckily my mother in law is,from Puerto Rico and knew what he was saying about me . He tells me that this is how me make sandwiches here.... with cooked lettuce and tomato! I say to him so is that how you cooks hamburgers and cook the lettuce and tomato? Best cheese steak I ever had. Had "the Jersey" with cheese balls. Amazing! I travel quite a bit and always seek out cheese steaks and this one blew me away. Especially luv the pizza dough rolls. Can't recommend enough. read more

The young lady who took our order was very sweet and lovely. She worked well with the costumers and had an enormous amounts of patience. However the non-english speaking cooks were extremely rude to her. She was trying to help them make the orders correctly bc they didn't understand English (meaning she kept correcting them when they messed up an order). Additionally, the men spoke down to the customers and they had VERY poor costumer service. In all, the food was very good, just rude service. read more

Cheese steaks are on point always, all the fryer food (especially the wings) always crispy and delicious, and their service is great. I come here every time I'm in NJ and often take food home with me. They only take cash so come prepared and keep your order prompt since they are usually busy. I would recommend this spot over anything on the boardwalk for food in general and the cheese steak spot across the street from Original Steaks. read more
