It's been a few years since I'd had a Suburpia sub. The last time it seemed the sandwich was over salty. Recently I'd tried the Miles Standish with light oil and light peppers at the Bluemound location. It brought back memories of the 70's when I was a regular customer. The bread was especially nice to revisit. I found asking for light oil made the sandwich much more manageable! If you've ever had a Suburpia sub, you know what I mean. There's actual a poster in the store describing how to eat one without ruining your clothing. I ordered delivery off of their website. I ordered a davey jones salad with no cheese and extra spice and a camp David with extra spice and onion and mushroom soup. Upon delivery I received the davey jones salad without the tuna on it. I called the number on the bottom of the receipt and DoorDash informed me they cannot issue a refund because Suburpia is the one who has the payment information. I tried calling around 7:45 when I received my meal to inform them and they did not answer the phone and I tried again today and it just rings. I would like my refund back for the salad and outrageous service fees of delivery since all I pretty much received was iceberg lettuce with tomato and seasoning. There are directions on how you should eat the sub in the restaurant which was very clean and organized. We had our order taken right away and the subs came out within a few minutes. Recently I tried Suburpia and let me tell you this was actually the best Sub sandwich I ever had. I highly recommend the White House sub it is a ham and turkey sandwich a with all the basic sub toppings on it. The service was excellent the guy working the register was very kind and seemed like a happy person. Suburpia is located in a very nice area and the establishment felt very cozy inside! If you want a lousy sub sandwich this is the place to go. Ordered a "Goldcoast" and brought it home. Started to eat the sandwich and thought something wrong. Opened the sandwich and only TWO thin slices of meat in side. Also the bread tasted like it was old. Sat down and wrote a letter to the manager explaining the problem in detail. It's been over 3 months and counting and haven't heard a word back. I guess management doesn't care about the quality of their products or public relations. Try a different sub place and you should be happy. read more

(17 December visit) I have always wanted to try this place, for the last three years. From the reviews and personal recommendations, it definitely is a place to go and quick a good and quickly made sandwich, and the price is right! Since this was my first visit here, I had to go with the classic suburpia, and was pleasantly surprised. The sandwich was on a freshly made sesame seed bun, firm yet soft. As a recommendation, you should follow the directions on the wall when eating this sandwich (see pic). The meat was plentiful, the onions were mixed with seasoning as the other picture will show. The cheese was an interesting choice, not sure what it was, but rather mellow and it complimented the sandwich. Next time I stop in, I can see myself trying this sandwich again or another tasty option. A quick note, the sandwich was rather oily after taking it out of the wrapper. Next time I will ask easy on the oil, but that is just me. Don't wait another day to try this place, stop in soon! read more

As I write this, there is a giant pile of Suburpia sandwiches stacked up at my parent's house, awaiting family arrival. I have not tasted these sandwiches since 1978, when I used to eat them in high schoool. "My" Suburpia was on the corner of Euclid and 27th Street, right next to Leon's Custard, and no longer exists (it's a Subway). Suburpia always gets 5 stars from me. They offer a one of a kind sandwich I just can't find anywhere else. I've been going to this location a lot more lately...my prior review was on the one by the airport..anyhow, I noticed one Bluemound they don't put as much of the oil and seasoning on the sandwich. I've gone 3 or 4 times now and always been a little disappointed. I think going forward I'll just ask for extra, no big deal. This place has some die-hard fans. And i agree with most of them. You have to know what you are getting into with the subs here. They are dressed with a thick sauce, and well, there's a reason the subs come in a water tight plastic bag, its catch all the ingredients from slipping away and keeping you clean as you devour a flavorful sandwich. I usually order the Camp David, which is a ham and cheese with all the fixings. Be aware of the newish location, as the old location still has the old signs up down the street. read more

This is a really decent sub. There are no bells and whistles at this sub shop, what you see is what you get. Everything comes with the same toppings and American cheese but somehow it just works. I usually prefer a nicer slice of deli meat, this is definitely cafeteria style lunch meat, but it holds up. I had the Suburpia and when it came I thought it seemed like too much bread for the contents but the oil on the sand which starts dripping through and softens the insides while keeping a nice crunch on the outside of the bread. The sandwiches are very messy so it's best to eat them how they suggest. Not my first choice for a sub but totally worth it for the price and waaay better than that $5 foot long place! Love this sandwich shop. It's been around the Milwaukee area forever! I love the retro feel of the decor. The workers here are sooooo friendly and hardworking. My turkey sandwich was delish. My soup mushroom and Brie could be served at a fine dining restaurant it's soooooooooo good. I went back the next day for more: I was starting to become a regular cuz I love there soups and sandwiches so much. The owner knocked over my soda and didn't apologize and looked at me as if I did it. I didn't want to make a big deal mistakes happen. I came in there and couple of more times and the last time I was there he kind of rolled his eyes as I was coming in. Tried to make small talk asked him about the business etc and he was short and pretentious. Dude maybe stay off the register cuz your customer service skills aren't the best. Poorly managed store. The owner is clueless (and incompetent and defensive, as is her husband) and the manager is of nominal intelligence. This all revolves around an incident where they cancelled an order that I made for delivery. I was told by the so-called 'manager' at the time that I would be refunded. Well and good so far, right? When about a week passed, I checked my bank account, but didn't/couldn't see the refund. I spoke to the owner's ill-informed husband over the phone the next day to see if it was issued but he was so hapless & confused he couldn't (or wouldn't) tell me! His 'solution' was for me to come to the store and pick up the sandwiches from the cancelled order (which totally undermines the purpose of me wanting to use Door Dash in the first place). It wasn't until I arrived at the store when the unprofessional 'manager' told me that I *was* refunded after all (for which I went back to my account to confirm that it was). This isn't a problem in and of itself but in which the manner I was told. My issue is is why didn't the idiot I spoke to on the phone couldn't/wouldn't confirm this right then and there. This would've saved me time and energy taking the bus out there had I known. And I ended up having to pay those sandwiches the owner's husband told me to come and get. What was that all about? If they knew I was refunded, why did they make those sandwiches and have me come and pick them up?? They couldn't couldn't give a satisfactory answer. Had I chose not be a good sport and pay for something that ultimately was their mistake, it would've made all the time and effort going out there a complete waste. The bottom line is that I was gaslighted, given the run around, treated very rudely by the poor excuse of a 'manager' (and by her inept coworker), and the owners were very defensive and unprofessional. I wasn't trying to get something for free (and had to tell the moron manager this several times) but simply wanted a confirmation of the refund. I've been a customer since 2005 and can't no longer see myself being one anymore. The straw that broke the camel's back was when the disingenuous owner wanted to shift the blame and chastise me for something they could've easily averted and resolve without issue. There's so much more that I could've added to my review, but didn't want to write a novel. This is clearly a family-run outfit with a shady background. In fact, a spokesman (and original owner) of the business had served time for fraud (and who knows what else). The people who run Suburpia are shysters. They take their customers for granted and treat them with the utmost contempt. They fail at public relations. You'd think that a (professional) business would fess up and apologize for their mishap, but not with this sham (after all, it was they who cancelled the order in the first place). Awesome Classic Suburpia sandwich...bread was fresh and HUGE....at 800 calories for only $6.29 it was a full meal and tasted great. Haven't been there since my UW-Madison days in 1975 at the corner of University and Randall Streets and the service was fast and accurate despite a full dining area and people coming and going. Great sandwich shop and the owner/cashier was quick, kept things moving and funny. I wish I lived closer...we drove from Caledonia to re-experience this great food memory and was not disappointed. read more
