The Osprey in Manasquan is basically a rite of passage--a sweaty, glorious temple of dance floors, vodka sodas, and pure summertime chaos. It's like someone bottled the energy of a college tailgate, added a bunch of neon lights and live music, and dropped it a block from the beach. You walk in and boom: the Rock Room is serving up live bands like it's 2009, while the Boom Boom Room is just that--nonstop DJs spinning tracks that'll have you dancing like you didn't promise to "take it easy tonight." Drinks? Cheap enough to buy rounds like you're a baller. Vibes? Off the charts. You will lose your voice from screaming lyrics and your dignity somewhere around 1am. And honestly... Isn't that the goal. Fun Fact: Bruce Springsteen once drank here and wrote a song about it. So yeah, you're partying where The Boss once stood. No pressure. Very important things to know before you visit The Osprey: 1. The other low star reviews are correct, this bar does in fact refuse to serve tap water. If you'd like water, you will have to pay $3 for a bottle. I had hoped that because most of those reviews are a few years old, that maybe times had changed this policy but I was wrong. 2. The cover is $20 and the entire bar is cash only. There are a few ATMs inside and the fee is $3.99 as of July 2021. 3. There are a few specific rules that might prevent you from gaining entry... No tank tops, no large backpacks, no flip flops, & no smoking or vaping. 4. The line gets LONG. My friends and I arrived at around 9 PM and waited about 20 minutes, which was nothing (according to my local friend) compared to the typical wait. Our experience was, for the most part, what we had expected. I do realize that this bar is not known for high quality service or ambiance, but there were a few things that even a low level dance bar should be on top of for the health and safety of their customers. I was honestly disgusted when I saw that one of the women's bathrooms was flooded, I believe this was due to a clogged toilet. There appeared to be fecal matter floating on the floor. The smell permeated to the nearby dance floor which made me believe this problem had been ignored for quite some time. The bathroom did not have any "Out of Service" signage, or even a wet floor sign to save someone from slipping and falling in that nasty mess. As for the drinks, cocktails and beers are $7 each. There are an abundance of bars to order from, so I was happy to not have to wait very long at any point. Overall, my friends and I enjoyed dancing in the mirrored room (as far away from the nasty bathroom as possible). The music was shockingly loud to the point that our voices are strained today from yelling to try to talk to each other. This was all part of the experience. Most of the staff was friendly and kind. One security person even let me know when I had accidentally dropped cash on the floor! I really appreciated that. If you, with all of this knowledge, are still down to go to The Osprey then I believe you fully understand what you are getting yourself into and I salute your commitment to having a night out. read more

The Osprey never dies... it stands the test of time and continues to draw the young beach going crowd in summer after summer. Three areas with their own music styles (live band/main room, sports bar and tecno/DJ) makes it trendy for all types. The perks continue with the absence of the Snookie types for the most part. You won't find guys tearing their shirts off or doing pushups on the dance floor here either, nor will you find guys measuring their manhood by the diameter of their biceps. It's just a bunch of young professionals out having a great time. Be prepared and come with cash. This is a cash only establishment until the IRS catches up with them. Well hmm. I would potentially give the place 3 stars since I did have a decent time dancing to the hip-hop music but the $10 cash only cover paired with CASH ONLY drinks and the longest line I've ever experienced (plus the dirty AF and hardly functioning girl's bathroom) dropped my rating down to two shiny stars. My boyfriend and I showed up a little after 10:30 on a Saturday evening... it was Labor Day Weekend so maybe that explains the longggg line. The thing went deep, let me tell you. It was 93% college kids--most everyone was pleasant enough--although I did not appreciate the line cutters, especially the ones who cut with a group. (Lone girls, you have a pass.) I honestly don't know how long we waited but the time went by relatively quickly since it was a decent evening weather wise and we struck up some interesting convos with a couple fellow line-waiters behind us. After paying $10 each for cover, we had to decide which room to visit first. There is a live band room and a DJ room. DJ room it was! But oh no, the most excruciatingly intense electronic "music" blasted from the speakers. Whelp. Time for a much needed drink. We quickly found out that they don't accept cards period, so we had to stand in another line at the ATM machine located in the dance room. Fine. Round two at attempting to order some liquid courage. We decided to ditch the robot music (which you can't even dance to, hello, and I refuse to fist pump) and headed over to the live band, which was even worse. The crowd was not enthused by the low key rock-ish music so back to the DJ room we went. Thankfully the music switched over to mostly hip-hop after that so we actually got some dancing in. The hip-hop song selection was not top notch but it was a vast improvement from the noise before... maybe it's a good thing we waited outside in the line for so long. Anyway. After some decent grooves and an improved mood, I stopped in the ladies room... only to find stall A with an impressively clogged toiled and stall B with no door. Stall C had it's flushing ability intact as well as a door, *long exhale of relief*. The place was a mess too, but I suppose that happens when a bunch of drunkies are involved. After leaving around 1:30, we found several police outside just waiting to swoop on the "belligerent" drunken gangly white boys. Uh the most damage they're going to do is raid their parents' well-stocked fridge and pass out on the plush couch. But I suppose it's better to be on the safe side. Overall I probably wouldn't choose to come back, but I had an alright time dancing for an hour or so and people watching. read more

Went there on a Friday night. I broke my foot and was on crutches. I lifted my crutches because the Mets didn't lose. I got kicked out and so did three of my friends. Our cover ($15 each) was not refunded and we were FORCEFULLY pushed out (on crutches) for lifting them in the air to cheer. the bouncer was absolutely disrespectful. I'm a simple man who enjoys catching a hot one from time to time. I come here when I want to get real aggressive and ride out a solid blackout. This place has it all. If you want to catch a hot 'roll', then the boom boom room is a real treat for all potential visitors. There are 7's and 8's lined up all over the place and you don't even have to dance that well to land a 6. The strobe light really brings out my green eyes and the fog machine hides the features I'm lacking, so the room has a lot of positive energy. The 'over the pants' HJs are consistent as well so there's a lot of nice action in this room. I like to go for the older women who put on too much make up in this room because they are the most desperate. I have to admit, I'm more into the Rock n Roll room. While the 'Boom Boom Room' is good to me on the nights my girlfriend isn't town, the live music from the Rock 'N Roll room really allows me to groove out some frisky moves illegal in 9 other states. This room is unpredictable. You might get punched in the face during the Backstreet Boys, or you may have a rando come back to your Kingdom after she sees you whip off your belt and start a limbo line with your best bro. I highly suggest getting 'Spreyed over the summer. Just come 'cocked because beers are like a hot $9. The bouncers here are really cool. They've thrown me flying through the double doors many a time. I have to say, either I've gained some weight or they're simply not as strong as they used to be though. They can't even get me over the sidewalk these days. I'll definitely be geting 'Spreyed till I'm 50 and my wife threatens divorce. read more

I am mortified. I understand that the line for the bar is long and that security's job is to prevent people from cutting but the disrespect shown from the man working the line last night was absolutely uncalled for. I went to check on a friend who was intoxicated at the front of line, I was not cutting. I brushed her arm and asked if she was okay. The security guard screamed at me to walk away, I assured him I was not cutting just asking if she was okay. The security guard aggressively grabbed my arm and threw me out of line and asked me to get off of the property. I am bruised and embarrassed. I politely told him I will go to the back of the line but I don't appreciate being man-handled by someone triple my size. He started to scream in my face, not listening to a word I said replying fervently that I should remove myself from the property and not return that night. My friends and I waited in line for around an hour to get to the door and when our IDs got checked, they questioned a local/real 21+ license and were extremely rude when I tried to defend her. I got told to "shut my mouth" for saying I wanted to get out of line and they threatened to call the police over simply because I wanted to leave. Definitely never going here ever again read more

Edited. I had an extremely negative experience here with a family member's bachelorette party of 7. Bonnie, a bartender suddenly and extremely rudely complained that our party was not tipping her enough after the first rounds of drinks. She was strangely hostile about it and signaled the security to have the entire party thrown out. None of us were rowdy or out of line. The tip she was going to receive, had she not made an absurd snap judgement and ruined a party - was a $100+. I was shocked. A barrage of unnecessary insults, false accusations, and threats ensued from multiple staff members. It was absolutely absurd. To the commenter below saying I "don't like to have fun".. If that was the case I would give this place 5 stars. Our experience was cut short for literally no reason by very mean, shortsighted staff.
