Definitely not worth the prices. The hot dog was a boiled generic hot dog (not even of Bar S quality) on a squishy bun. The Coney sauce is just loose dry hamburger with some chili powder. With a very few space onions thrown on. Was bland and just disappointing. The tots tasted good, but not worth 6.50. We also has min corn dogs, but they were frozen not made in house. The restaurant is no frills inside but very clean. Service was ok and fairly quick. read more

Awesome as always! Everyone is soooo friendly, it's so refreshing to be treated nicely and these folks are on it! Food is always hot and delicious! Mothers Dawg is my favorite dog but you also have to get a tenderloin, fresh cut fries and whatever special they are running that day. I looked them up to find the hours and saw they didn't have amazing reviews down the board and I must tell you, those people are haters, Other Dawg is everything I want in a diet cheat day and more. read more

I don't really like hot dogs, but my husband does. I really like tamales, but my husband can take them or leave them. If only there were a restaurant where I could get delicious tamales and my husband could get a hot dog. Oh my god, there is one and this is that place! I can't speak to the deliciousness of the hot dogs, but my husband seemed pleased with the one he got. I can tell you that the tamale with sauce (meat sauce and cheese on a tamale, hey why not?) was divine. Is that an Illinois thing? To drench your tamale in cheese sauce? I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering. The two men behind the counter were so chatty and nice, too. Some people, especially New Yorkers, might be put off with two burly dudes behind the counter chatting up the customers, but I'm not from New York originally, so it made my day. And I love seeing my husband in action doing that thing that he does where he holds his own in a conversation about sports despite hating all televised sports. I don't know how he does it. He assures me it's part of the bro code and to not worry about it, so I don't. Anyway, to sum up: hot dogs, tamales, yum. Let's start with atmosphere: Dirtyyyyy. That's basically it. Scuff Marks all over the sides of the counters, handprints covering the door, floors GROSS, tables dirty, broken stools, counters sticky, soda machine sticky and dirty. Costumer service: Good. Luckily when I went in, I actually knew the person personally. So, the service went well in between chatting and having food prepared and delivered. I just watched a manager (or, God forbid, owner) scream in an employees face to the point she was in hysterics. I initially was under the impression this was a DV situation, with the way he was speaking to the woman. He went inside, and I approached the woman asking if she was safe and if he was violent, to which she replied "no". I then went back into my car, watched him come back outside, and him scream in the face of another woman and the employee AGAIN before getting into his truck and driving off. I talked to the poor girl again, who then told me she worked there, he was her boss, and that's how he acted. I won't even touch on how gross the food is, because the display of unprofessionalism and aggressive behavior towards female employees was enough to never go there again. Disgusting. read more

When you go into this establishment They act like what the hell are you in here for. Then they move like they have arthritis or something real slow really slow then they give you this Miniature hotdog It's like what where in the hell did the meat go. I'm serious that dog is about as big around as my pinky finger and with the full-size hot dog bun It just tastes like bread. The hotdog meat is about half the size of original hot dog. This place is almost what a hot dog joint should be. Staff: Very friendly and engaging. Atmosphere: Clean, neatly arranged, cozy. Food: I had a Chicago dawg and a Polish with meat sauce. The Chicago dawg would have been better if it was a higher quality hot dog to begin with. The skin was not snappy and the overall texture was just average. The Polish was excellent. Snappy skin, firm texture, and not greasy. The meat sauce had a slightly smoky sweetness to it and just a hint of cumin which gives the flavor profile the nuance of a non-intrusive chili. Overall I had to rate this place a 3. If they upgrade the hot dog quality, this place will easily be a four. read more

The dogs were not the kind with snappy skins, but they were decent quality. A plain hot dog you can dress yourself with standard condiments was $1.75, so prices seem reasonable. They also had a variety of tamales made in Texas. read more

We stopped in The Other Dawg again on Saturday. The dining room/counter was slammed and the lone employee behind the counter was very busy keeping up. She spoke to us immediately and said she would be right with us. She efficiently put the orders together for the waiting patrons, took our order and cooked our selections right away. She was always friendly, speaking to each person who walked in, despite her obvious workload at the moment. Our orders were prepared perfectly, and brought to our table (again a good customer service effort!). After the crowd died down and the dining room cleared out a bit, she spoke to each table individually, asking is everything was good, and offering punch cards to anyone who didn't have one. The food at The Other Dawg is good, and the prices are fair, however the customer service we received on Saturday 4/12/14 was absolutely outstanding! read more

Went 9.28.91 for 6 "favorite" dogs and polish with onion rings. Got 4 luke warm super crunchy rings for $1.12 a piece and a barely warm polish. "Favorite" dogs missing onions, meat sauce so dry hard to get down, taste very bland, and barely warm. We've been been irregular customers till now. No longer a customer, ever. read more

My dining companion and I tried the coney dogs and pork tamales. The tamales were very good. Wrapped in real corn husks and full of well seasoned shredded pork, they were the stars of our meal. The coneys came topped with "special meat sauce", mustard, and onion. The dog was of average quality on a fresh food service bun. The "sauce" was more of a meat topping. It had good texture, but the only detectable flavor was cumin. There was a bit of heat and perhaps a whisper of garlic but the shouts of CUMIN! drowned out everything else. The sauce is made in-house and variation between batches is expected. Hopefully, cumin overload is not the norm. Five stars for the tamales. The bare dog and bun are typical food service stuff, so three stars. For leaving me tasting cumin seven hours later the meat sauce gets one star, and only because zero isn't an option. Three stars overall, because the tamales are That Good. The dogs were $2.50, which is at the high end of average for Peoria. The tamales were $2.00. Addtl: Went back 8/30 for more tamales. The plan was to try a sampling of all the varieties, but only chicken and black bean were available. The black bean tamales were filled with seasoned and mostly whole beans, very mild and quite tasty. The chicken tamales were pleasantly picante, filled with ground chicken and bits of peppers. Five stars for both. I didn't try the dogs again. I will at some point, and will update the review at that time. read more

A decent hot dog joint, but nothing really sets it apart from many others I've been to. Worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for something other than a fast food chain restaurant, but not worth a special trip. read more

Stopped in today for lunch and it was like I never even walked in. There were two people sitting at the counter but no worker behind the counter. A few seconds later she comes walking out from the back and walks right past me standing there. She didn't even acknowledge that I was there. She continued to walk back and forth from behind the counter to the back 4 or 5 times without saying Hi or I'll be with you in a second. After standing there for a little bit I just walked out. I came in with my girlfriend on Sunday afternoon. March 11. My girlfriend had been telling me about this business for months now and since we don't live in town hadn't been able to try it. We found ourselves in town and she suggested it, why not? The gentleman working greeted us, and my girlfriend told him it was my first time here. I read the menu and ordered the nachos deluxe. My girlfriend ordered her food and we sat down to wait. The gentleman made my nachos without most of the toppings and said "here ya go." I sat silently and waited for him to make my girlfriends food and when it was finished he said "here ya go." The guy started to walk away without addressing the issue so I stopped him and apologized for "busting his balls" but asked him about the other toppings. He then said "oh they're on the side, I was getting them for you." So why did he present my food as finished if that were the case? What really set me over the edge is that when he finally brought my extra toppings, they were all marked 3/6. I've worked in the food industry and customer service before. There is no excuse to give a customer OUTDATED FOOD! I will never eat here again, and will tell others about this experience. read more

I bought 2 deals from WEEK TV. We tried the dogs and tamales. 2 dogs and 2 tamales for almost $10, high end of average. Pork tamales although different than the most common local fare were very good. Closer to authentic Mexican. I will use my second deal for tamales. The chilli on our dogs was disgustingly heavy on cumin. Not an item to draw me back. Tamales rate 4 stars, dogs don't hit the chart. We routinly drive out of our area for a good dog. This place won't be on the list. read more
