Stopped in for Mother's Day. We were seated immediately and our waiter was attentive. As we waited for our food, I began looking around our booth. The window blinds were filthy, dust and food all over them, two out of four sets of silverware included dirty utensils. Our food came and my patty melt was so overcooked and dry with about10 French fries, my sons cheeseburger had diced tomatoes mashed in the bun, my husbands French dip only had cheese on half and the meat was full of gristle. I have been going to the other place in Ankeny Iowa for a few years now. Every time I place an order I get home and the order in messed up. on 10/5/2025 I placed an order 1 grinder with mozzarella cheese I got cheese I ordered a shrimp basket with fries and ranch dressing didn't,t get the ranch dressing I also ordered fried mushrooms with ranch dressing and didn't get the ranch dressing. This happens every time I place an order there. Tonight the manager acted like I was bothering him and cut me short on the phone. OWNER!! PLEASE READ! I have loved this place since it first opened and will find any excuse to come here but recently the service is so terrible! The last 3 times i have come i have waited over 30 minutes to just be helped. I am currently waiting for my food I ordered 40 minutes ago (nachos and a chicken wrap). I came in an hour earlier than i was going to solely bc this is an ongoing issue. People have to get to work and have appointments. The Other Place is a sports bar located in a strip mall. Inside, the place is pretty spacious, with a lot of TVs all around showing the multiple games that were taking place on the Saturday night I was there. There are multiple tables, booths, and some long benched communal tables. We waited around 15-minutes before we got seated. We ordered some medium pizzas: The four star pizza which had pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and mozzarella cheese. This was by-far my favorite. Buffalo chicken pizza which had Hot wing sauce and bleu cheese dressing combined with diced grilled chicken tenders & topped four cheeses. The chicken was somewhat dry, and the name/description of the pizza sounded better than what it was. Overall, service was A-OK and the experience was A-OK. It was funny, at one point the satellite feed was interrupted and they used a laptop with the NFL Network subscription, and casted on the TVs. Every few minutes there would be a warning that said the NFL Network subscription was being used in another device. BATHROOM REVIEW: Located past the DJ/AV area, the mens bathroom was A-OK. Awhile back hubby came home bragging about this great tenderloin that he had here. So when he mentioned going here for a week night diner I agreed so I could try it. The host was welcoming and sat us right away. Not crowded at all on a Tuesday evening. The interior is a great venue if you like tv and sports. There are TVs all around and sports playing on everyone. The waitress was quick and friendly and gave us the needed time to look over the menu and specials. I caved and ordered the fried tenderloin but asked for no bun and extra lettuce. No fries and got the cottage cheese. Hubby got the cottage cheese and a big ole burger. His burger was huge and not only had bacon but onion rings on it. I got to try and it was also very yummy. I have to admit. I loved the tenderloin. In house cut. Not hammered down. It was think and juicy. Lots of pickles and came out piping hot. I think for an everyday place this is a good choice. If you want a bar, they have that option too. Absolutely terrible. I ordered a Cajun chicken pepper jack wrap, I asked for no tomatoes and it seemed as they added more than regular. The cheese looks as if it's been in the fridge for about a eeek after being made, it's hard and has a glue texture. The "Cajun chicken" is burnt and not even that it's the fact that there were three little 1x1 chicken chunks wrapped in a pound of lettuce and tortilla. Not good and never again. read more

What a nice addition to the Ankeny area. Happy hour specials is what got me in the door. I tried the special, tenderloin that came hot and with all the fixings as requested. I opted for cottage cheese instead of the fries and had a very nice meal. I would recommend this to others as I will return for more visits like this. read more

We went here for dinner and were seated right away with a party of 6. The place was busy, but not crazy. Lots of TVs to watch college football. We started off with cheesy bread sticks and onion rings. The cheesy breaks were very good, the marinara sauce very thick. The onion rings were crazy good. I don't know what the battery is that they used; but, it was the best I've ever had. Note that I don't eat a lot of onion rings; but, like to try them different places. I would return for these rings. My husband and I shared a 9" taco pizza and chicken Alfredo. The taco pizza was okay; the taco sauce made it much better. The chicken Alfredo was very good. Unfortunately, this one left a lot to be desired. There are a lot of TVs and plenty of cold beers on draft but their food sucked and it just seemed dirty. We went to the OP last night for supper. When we walked in we were expecting it to be freezing like it usually is, but it was as hot in there as it was outside! Our waiter said if we left he would've offended because several others had done so! I asked Matt if he wanted to stay or go and he opted to stay. We ordered our food (a side salad, chicken strips and fries for me and the Super Sub and onion rings for Matt). Our food did not take long to arrive and it was piping hot! As we ate, I was getting really warm. And if I think it's warm, it has to be stifling to others. Our waiter told us the entire strip mall is getting a new HVAC system in a couple weeks, which will be really nice for everyone. We ate our delicious food, boxed up leftovers and came home. We ate their last night. Huge mistake. Our waiter was horrible. Didn't check on us. We had to hunt him down. We had no napkins, even though we asked for some. Why would you need to ask for napkins in the first place? Had to ask for refills. Asked for lemon in my water. Got no lemon. My and my daughter in laws salads were wrong and it took 45 minutes to get our food and they were not busy. My salad was not worth the $11 charged. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here. I anticipate standard bar food but everything I saw come out of kitchen was much better than that. The onion rings were delicious and appeared to be hand battered. Mozzarella sticks were also very good and large in size. The salads used a very fresh green mix that looked delicious and the sandwiches and burgers all came out toasty and well put together. The french fries were phenomenal and the ranch is pretty good too. The only thing I would improve was speed of service and ticket times. We stopped in for a work lunch, so time was of the essence, and it seemed to take a long time to get our food. This could be a downfall if you are on a time crunch. We came with 3 people on a busy night no problem. The wait time was an hour so I needed to make a call to one of the people in our group to see if they'd be willing to wait. I came back up to the counter to put our name in, & 4 different people were helped that just walked in before me. Once we got our name in, we went out to the car to wait for a call that our table was ready. Just about when the hour was up, we came back in & sat down to wait. We were asked if we'd been helped & i mentioned we were just waiting & had been on the list for the past hour. Based on how all the workers reacted, we should've been called earlier than we were. They weren't sure with each other that we even got on the list to begin & sat us almost immediatly. If i hadn't said anything, i don't know that i would've even got called. Service was alright, our waitress wasn't understanding one of our orders. Pretty simple. We wanted the cajan chicken wrap, but we wanted the wrap itself to be the chedder jalepano offered on the buffelo wrap. They also charge extra for sauce. For a wrap & fries, a tiny cup of ranch will not be enough for all that but having to pay additonal for sauce is kind of ridiculous for a bar style resturant. Its overall okay. read more

AC NOT WORKING!! Had to leave without eating. I have asthma and couldn't breathe! It was 95 degrees in the bar!!! Bartender was sympathetic. AC HAS NOT WORKED FOR 3 WEEKS!!!!!!!! The OP has some great pizza. This was our 2nd time trying to come here. 1st time it was so packed, you could barely hear yourself think or talk and super crowded. So we came back on a calmer night and enjoyed ourselves. We sat at the bar area on a Saturday night, they have plenty of TV's so you can watch almost any sports you want too. The service was decent. The pizza is what is worth getting here. It's a thin crust and comes out crisp and tasty. We got a 12" easily enough for 2 people. The OP has a lively atmosphere. Have been to many OPs around the state, and this one is very similar to the others. Actually, I believe much of it was brought down when they closed the Ames location. Food is good, and pizza is excellent. I do wish they would make their Philly Steak the same way the one in Clear Lake does, but overall it is pretty good and I will likely be there many many times. I do hope the put up a bunch of UNI decor on this one. Would be nice for UNI fans to have a place in Ankeny for game days, and hope they will stream Panther games!!!! read more

A good choice for lunch or dinner. We order take-out quite often as we work next door. Everything we've tried has been delicious. Their hand-breaded chicken tenders and mushrooms are excellent, as are their pizzas. My only complaint is that they forget parts of our order on occasion, which is annoying, but not the end of the world because they are so close. read more
