The Other Place is a sports bar located in a strip mall. Inside, the place is pretty spacious, with a lot of TVs all around showing the multiple games that were taking place on the Saturday night I was there. There are multiple tables, booths, and some long benched communal tables. We waited around 15-minutes before we got seated. We ordered some medium pizzas: The four star pizza which had pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and mozzarella cheese. This was by-far my favorite. Buffalo chicken pizza which had Hot wing sauce and bleu cheese dressing combined with diced grilled chicken tenders & topped four cheeses. The chicken was somewhat dry, and the name/description of the pizza sounded better than what it was. Overall, service was A-OK and the experience was A-OK. It was funny, at one point the satellite feed was interrupted and they used a laptop with the NFL Network subscription, and casted on the TVs. Every few minutes there would be a warning that said the NFL Network subscription was being used in another device. BATHROOM REVIEW: Located past the DJ/AV area, the mens bathroom was A-OK. There were several urinals and stalls, so no waiting to empty your bladder here. Sit or squat? Squat.

Tenderloin with no bun ...cottage cheese side

Awhile back hubby came home bragging about this great tenderloin that he had here. So when he mentioned going here for a week night diner I agreed so I could try it. The host was welcoming and sat us right away. Not crowded at all on a Tuesday evening. The interior is a great venue if you like tv and sports. There are TVs all around and sports playing on everyone. The waitress was quick and friendly and gave us the needed time to look over the menu and specials. I caved and ordered the fried tenderloin but asked for no bun and extra lettuce. No fries and got the cottage cheese. Hubby got the cottage cheese and a big ole burger. His burger was huge and not only had bacon but onion rings on it. I got to try and it was also very yummy. I have to admit. I loved the tenderloin. In house cut. Not hammered down. It was think and juicy. Lots of pickles and came out piping hot. I think for an everyday place this is a good choice. If you want a bar, they have that option too. I have been to the west Des Moines location too, but they are about the same. I'll be back for their tenderloin.

Went here as a family on a Thursday. We were seated quickly but it took a while to be acknowledged by our server. Food was pretty good. Service was slow, but it seems like our server was pretty new. The environment is nice and staff was friendly.

What a nice addition to the Ankeny area. Happy hour specials is what got me in the door. I tried the special, tenderloin that came hot and with all the fixings as requested. I opted for cottage cheese instead of the fries and had a very nice meal. I would recommend this to others as I will return for more visits like this.

25 minute ticket chicken avocado quesadilla. Sour cream the same temp as the chicken.

Noisy obnoxious place, food just average. Who wants to play music bingo when you're out eating with friends. Service was great however.

We sat at a high top with a bench, and it actually worked really well for having the baby with us. Drinks and waters came out efficiently, and our waitress was kind and courteous. The food did take a little while, but everything came out together, which I appreciate with a larger table. My fries were room temperature when they arrived, but they quickly replaced them with piping hot ones, so no real complaint there. Our table had a good mix: the Pulled Pork Sandwich for $12.99, Crispy Chicken Wrap for $14.99, Tequila Lime Chicken Tacos for $14.99, BTH Classic Smash Burger for $14.99, and a medium order of house-made boneless wings for $16.99. No one complained, which is usually a pretty good sign with our crew. The restaurant was clean, fairly busy, and all the staff we interacted with were friendly. Drink prices seemed reasonable too. We were also able to hang out and visit for quite a while without feeling rushed, which made it a really nice family stop. It is close to home, the food was good, and my daughter picked up the bill for Father's Day, so that made it taste even better. We will definitely be back.

Sadly, the band ended up…read moresequestered in a closet-sized space on the main level since the wind made the rooftop off-limits. Bummer! The Service: We were eventually seated at a booth (the one with no working TVs), and while we were quickly greeted by Jennifer--who was our waitress for the night--we ended up waiting most of the evening for her to come back. We did get waters and drinks while waiting for our friends to arrive. Once they showed up, it took a little while to get the rest of our order in, but it all worked out in the end. They were very busy that night--between the Indiana Fever game, graduations, and a band crowd. Jennifer was hustling, along with her husband and one other waitress, trying to cover the whole place. So, while I can't (and won't) complain about the effort, they clearly needed more help to reach that 5-star level. Same goes for the bar--it was overwhelmed and absolutely needed more than one bartender to handle that crowd. Just a note for management: the team was working hard, but they were outnumbered. The Food: The kitchen was on the ball. Our appetizer of Brussels sprouts was delicious--great flavors, perfectly cooked--and they hit the table just moments before our entrees did. I had the jalapeño burger with the ridiculously long name (you'll know it when you see it), and added the $4 onion rings. The burger was fantastic--well made, full of flavor. The onion rings, while not quite worth the $4 upcharge as a side, were the crispiest onion rings I've ever had. Really good. Kim's wrap, on the other hand, was underwhelming--$14 for a tortilla shell mostly filled with lettuce and not much flavor. Our friends seemed happy with their meals and later ordered a bread pudding to share. We all had a sample, and while it was decent, it was definitely missing a sauce or something to make it pop. The Value: Our bill--1 appetizer, 2 meals, and 4 drinks--came to over $100 plus tip. (Now that I'm writing this, I kind of wish I'd looked at the receipt more closely.) Still, that seems to be the going rate for this kind of night out in the greater Des Moines area these days. Pro Tip: Try coming during happy hour to stretch your dollars a bit further.

I had no idea if there was meat choices (there isn't) or toppings or sides (there are sides like fries) I'm glad I asked for the menu, as I almost thought about the nachos. Which I would have not known about if I hadn't seen a menu. We did not appreciate the rudeness when she asked if we were ready to order and I replied how would we know we haven't seen a menu. Just for her to roll her eyes and come back and toss them on the table. That attitude made me not want to spend my money there and my tip absolutely reflected her poor behavior. She could have earned 20 from me alone out of our group, instead of what was left over from the change. I work in the service industry and I appreciate both good food and service and it also would have been nice if our checks were correct but I have learned to pick and chose my battles but that also helped contribute to her not super tip.
