The Dip is probably Reddings Crown Jewel when it comes to night entertainment for locals and visitors. I frequent just to play the pinball machines because they're the only place around that has any arcade machines that I've seen so far. The music is great they allow patrions to choose the daily set list from Spotify so you will never hear the same song twice. The stage, lighting, sound system, and most importantly the staff. Caleb will be you're more present mixologist, and if you get to see Aaron, one of the owners drop a fist bump to both these dudes. They are literally some of the coolest people you'll ever meet. They have an awesome selection of libations to choose from. Even some of their own special mixes. That go awesome with Lays, tajin and lemon juice. Trust me. For those who have only heard of the WHISKEY A GO-GO, CBGB, CHAIN REACTION, THE DOLL HOUSE, OR ANY SIMILAR BAR OR CLUB THAT HAS A SMALL STAGE LIKE THE DIP YOU'LL ALWAYS FEEL LIKE HOME. This is the place to be only slow night just to get a refreshment or when the night is young and rock begins to roll. No matter what this is the joint to be. The Dip is one of the better bars/places to hang out at in Redding. I'm from the Bay Area and used to enjoy going to shows pretty frequently. The Dip has been suiting my needs because they host a variety of bands (reggae, jazz, metal, bluegrass, hip hop, etc) as well as a lot of different types of events like drag shows, trivia, silent disco, karaoke, etc. The staff there are all super friendly and lively- and their drinks are great, what more can you ask for! read more

The owners and staff are always extremely welcoming and incredibly kind. The place is always clean and comfortable, nothing is ever sticky and the bathroom is nice even during a show. They always have interesting bands, live performances and events going on all year so take a look at their website or instagram before going to see what's up! My friend and I were walking around downtown hitting all the bars and we decided to check out the dip. We got there and I had to use the lady's room so I went and we came out of the bathroom and looked at the prices and what they had to offer and decided to leave and go home. When we left the bouncer decided to be extremely rude and said "thanks for coming in and just using the bathroom. That helps us a lot appreciate it". I brought my husband here for a show MC Chris was playing on his last tour. This is a fun little bar with a nice setup for small shows, an outside patio, and some pinball machines. The bartenders working on the Tuesday night we were there had great personalities and really lent to the fun and inviting atmosphere. One of the gentlemen behind the bar seemed to have enthusiasm for everyone's drink order, which I very much appreciated as a patron. The show was fun, the crowd was great, and I enjoyed the drinks I had. My server did a great job at making recommendations to me when I told him what kind of beer I like. I love little places like this putting together niche shows! While there is no food served here, there is a pizza place next door that I highly recommend either before, after, or in between drinks! read more

I just have to give this place five stars because they were so supportive for us during our bachelorette party. The bartender Mike was so nice, informative, and they have extremely good sours there. I was so impressed. Unfortunately when we came, it was on a weekday very early--the place was not cracking quite yet and there were some men working on the stage, but to be fair they were all good looking. I would love to come when there is an actual show, or play here myself. They have a bunch of video games, and they helped us with their scavenger hunt. I am never disappointed with any visit to the Dip. Whether I've been waiting for months to see a band play there or whether I just stroll in on a random weeknight, the Dip is the best hangout spot in town. Period. They continue to get better and bigger bands to make stops on their tours while also giving up-and-coming, unknowns a chance for some exposure. They're definitely helping to build a better music scene in Redding. As far as music venues go, it's got amazing sound techs who make sure the audio mix is perfect anywhere in the building. The small stage makes for an intimate up-close atmosphere with the bands so they can really melt your face. For craft beer lovers, their tap list is hands-down the best in town and they make some excellent cocktails as well (never watered down). You can show up on basically any given night and either watch some awesome live music, participate in a trivia night, or just play some great pinball machines and chill with some bomb drinks. The staff is absolutely amazing. They have fun events on the regular like Bob Ross paint and pint night. It's a breath of fresh air in a town full of dive bars. read more

I like The Dip. Good beer selection on tap, Teacher Lady liked her cocktail, etc. Definitely an improvement on Billy Bombay's, which had become something of a pock mark on the Redding nightclub scene (though it never got as bad as the twin weeping pustules called Bert & Ernie's and Johnny's Cathouse). My feeling, however, is that the place is meant to be a young hipster hangout, and I felt weird as soon as I walked through the door the night we dropped in. It's the awkward way you feel when you're a dude and you just accidentally stumbled into women's side of the Mosque of Ahmad Ibn Ţūlūn in Cairo with your shoes on, wearing a Valparaiso University Crusaders t-shirt and a Trump "Make America Great Again" trucker hat. Or when you're rolling out your mat for your Bikram hot yoga class, knowing full well that during the last class, during forward-fold, you tooted loudly and acted like it wasn't you. But when you got home you realized you actually sharted a little, and your white yoga pants made your guilt plainly obvious. We've all been there, right? To put it more bluntly, we walk in and the six guys at the bar--all lumbersexual dudes with the beards and the slicked-back haircuts, the $250 denim jeans, the $150 flannel shirts, the $200 work boots, etc.--turn and size us up, and you can almost hear the collective eye-roll. It's disorienting and a bit off-putting, being dismissed as uncool by a bunch of cosplaying pseudo-timber beasts, none of whom would have a clue how to prepare a 40:1 fuel-to-oil mixture for a chainsaw, or even how to set the choke. It's the kind of thing that makes you want to kick someone's ass right then and there. But the main reason I'm posting this is because another reviewer mistakenly referred to the place as "The Drip," and I gotta set him straight. The name of the joint is "The Dip" -- short for and an homage to "Serendipity," the progenitor coffeehouse that long ago booked live music making its way up and down the I-5 corridor. "The Drip" is a slang street name for gonorrhea. Granted, "The Drip" would have been a good homage to the late Bombay's, but it's not in fact the new name. read more

This easily could have had 5 stars. 1.) The cocktails were amazing and the bar tenders were willing to create something new on the fly to meet my specific tastes. Price was also right for the quality of ingredients used. 2.) Awesome beer menu with a good selection of both local Redding and broader CA brews. (I mean, with Modern Times on tap you can't go wrong). 3.) Great service, not too busy, not awkwardly empty. So why not 5? The ambiance. It's a little nit-picky but its important in a bar. The layout is a bit awkward and everything feels a bit... dated. Weird mix of nerd, 90s dive bar, and bro but the bar is clearly trying to be a bit more modern? Hopefully the bar continues to be a success and they can invest in the decor, cause they got a solid foundation. Will definitely be back. read more

Pretty cool place with a lot of decent beers on tap, the only negative thing is they make there spirits really weak. So I just don't order them anymore. Other then that it's a neat bar. UPDATE- I did have this review at 4 stars but I came here tonight and wanted to try another vodka tonic just to give them the benefit of the doubt since they recently opened. It was a mistake there was more ice in the drink then anything else, and less then a shot of vodka. Also there beer prices are pretty ridiculous, no beer should be over 5 dollars unless it's something really unique or aged. It's hard to want to come here because their drinks are so ridiculous. read more

I am gonna give this 4 stars based on the fact that my boyfriend said the bathroom was "well appointed" yet needs a divider between the urinal and sink. Maybe a little hipster, but beer AND hard A is a great combo and not as LOUD LOUD LOUD as Bombay's was. Thank you. read more

With a living room sort of feel, it is easy to feel right at home inside The Dip. The tap list is nothing short of astounding, although some may find the quality brew selection to be a bit daunting. Really though, throw something wet in a glass (they have soda too) and check out the amazing musical selections The Dip is hosting at their house. Don't worry if you don't know who is playing. Just do as I did, walk in, grab a drink, and disappear into the music that you'll be humming for the next week. read more

A fantastic bar in downtown Redding. They have a great selection of local beers on tap, and they have some really cool artists coming through to play shows for a very cheap cover. I would highly recommend going here, and I support what the dip is brining to Redding. The only downside is that they don't give samples of their beer. read more

Love this bar. But they have this guy projecting virtual reality on the screen and it's louder than a rave on NYE. Cannot maintain a conversation. No one needs to hear your literal elevator music or fake gunfight at decibels loud enough to damage your ear drums. It's 7pm on a Wednesday for crying out loud. I wanna have a drink and a chat. A cool spot which served an array of beer on tap. Being from Washington I was happy to see they had Elysian Hot Fuzz on tap. The place had a hipster vibe with a cool ambiance which featured three or four pinball machines. In addition my friend ordered a gin and tonic which was markedly better than the same drink at another local bar later in the night. It was cool to see a place which caters to local music and with a large stage. read more

But I tried go here to listen to live music on two occasions but wasn't prepared to add an hour to their advertised start times so I missed out.
