In McCloud? A must is Butcher Block Grill down on Main Street, McCloud. We enjoyed the most amazing dinner tonight with Elaina from the staff. Warm friendly atmosphere where you feel you've stepped back in another time dimension where you're greeted at the door and the small town where you feel welcome. This is in the historic building where this was the original butcher shop for the logging company, Mother McCloud, surrounded by history of when the town was completely self sufficient. Priceless. Our dinners were amazing. The steaks grilled to perfection. My grandson had surf & turf, my granddaughter was a super thumbs up thrilled with her NY steak. My Cobb salad more plentiful than I could image. Everyone was laughing and enjoying theirselves along with the friendliest staff interactions. I cannot wait to go again. Butcher Block is a must for food, service, and ambience. I would recommend calling for reservations around 4:00 pm as this hot spot filled up quickly. read more

Pretty sure this is a hidden gem in McCloud. We missed this place the 1st three times we stayed cause he had no idea this was around. Glad we stopped by this time. The service and food was amazing. Ordered the pomodoro with chicken and the flavor was light and perfect for me. If you're looking something really rich don't get it. The service was awesome and they gave us complimentary bread as well which was also good! Watermelon margaritas are amazing by the way. Just love how friendly the staff are. read more

We stayed at the mercantile and so tried this place, we got the steak sandwich we have never had such a simple tender charred wonderfulness perfection so good we got one for our travels the next say. Chicken tortillas soup was fantastic as well. The 2nd evening we did the surf and turf special again so good star was the beer battered butterflied shrimp. I had the fettuccine I'm very picky and it was wonderful, creamy. The bread came with garlic parm whipped butter. I would highly recommend this gem. Great old fashioned as well. read more

This is such a cute spot in McCloud! It is totally worth the drive from Mount Shasta. The food was incredible and the service was great. We got the cheese curds for an appetizer and enjoyed those. We also ordered the Avocado Burger, the Smoked Gouda Conchiglie and the Beef Tips dinner special. All the food had such good flavor and the portions were large. We all took home leftovers. Fantastic dinner tonight! Loved the attention to detail started with the water perfect temperature served in stainless steel to the local quality of natural H2O. Ordered the tempura shrimp for staters they arrived super promptly and did not disappoint cooked perfectly and with a sweet Asian sauce rocked our world. Normally I would have taken photos of the meal but it came swiftly and perfectly I soon was having an out of body experience slurping down the killer Clam Chowder with a half loaf and butter!!! Yup dinner hadn't even arrived yet and I was in heaven I had the surf and turf with a backed potato and broccoli and my wife loved her beef tips with mash potatoes! Absolutely amazing and prepared perfectly with every single thing spot on!! New York seasoned with the perfect combination of crispy grill searing but cooked tender and juicy! The shrimp were battered and cooked just like I like them and were huge. Nice beverage options and a modern industrial vibe with a country feel! The service was excellent from walking in the door to exiting with a take out meal of leftovers and a great value as portions are very huge! We were on the road in our RV and a friend of mine lives in the McCloud area and he let me know about the Butcher Block Grill. We celebrated our 38th anniversary here and had a wonderful meal. The staff was very courteous and made us feel at home. The New York steak was perfectly cooked to our liking, along with the veggies and salad. We will definitely go back if we're in the area again. I really enjoyed this place while visiting siskiyou county last month, the custom service was outstanding our server was very attentive. I had the salmon it was absolutely delicious my husband had the shrimp scampi it was also very good. We had delicious cocktails. I would give this place a five star but was a little taken back by the way one of the back of house staff continued to come out of the back and yell for the servers I just thought it was a bit unprofessional and just rude. Our server was chatting with us about the dishes she loved the most because we asked for a recommendation and a believe a cook was coming out and yelling for her while she was attending to customers. Wow! What a wonderful surprise. Excellent food and service. We came in on a Thursday evening. Sarah was our waitress and was excellent and friendly. I got the Cobb salad and it was perfect. Huge. My husband got the special which was beef tips in gravy and mashed potatoes. He loved it and is a hard sell so that means a lot. I got a lemon drop drink and he got a beer. By far, one of our favorite restaurants in all of the Mount Shasta area. Phenomenal, home style meals. Everything seems to be made from scratch - pasta, sauces, gravy, soups. Finally got a chance to eat there, probably one of the best meals I ever had. I ordered cob chicken salad. Tasted like everything was fresh picked from the garden out back. Chicken was perfectly cooked. Between them and sparkys in Mount Shasta , butcher block wins, sparkys is still great. My kid ordered chicken nuggets, I tasted one thinking it's going to be like every other type chicken nugget, damn was i wrong tasted like they made their own breading to cook them in, I wanted more but my kid said no. Great service, lovely outdoor seating and yummy dinner options. The restaurant was crowded for a Sunday evening . Our waitress warned us that there was a large table before us but everything came out quickly . We had cocktails and the watermelon capresse salad to start. We came here to have late lunch with two families. The place used to be a butcher and they nicely repurposed it to be a steak house while still holding on to some key butcher-like design elements. The menu is a traditional steak house menu with a modern, hipster touch to it. I had New York steak which came out great. It had rich charcoal / roast flavors on the outside and was very juicy and tender inside. On the side I had mashed potatoes and gently steam-cooked broccoli. Presentation was great. There should be a line out the door waiting to get into this place. I am 71 years old. Eaten at A LOT OF RESTAURANTS- never in my life have I had Salmon dish that was as flavorful and delicious. I had Pecan crusted Salmon. Not only was the Salmon amazing- the veggies and even baked potato had my taste buds on overload. I can't wait to go back. And I will be telling everyone I can to try Butcher Block. I know I may be sorry because it will be harder to get into- but this place is one of those restaurants you could drive an hour to get to and know it's worth it. Great job!!!!! read more

What a treasure of a restaurant in McCloud. The place was jumping on Thursday night but the servers were super friendly and helpful. We started with watermelon caprese which was so good. The watermelon was juicy and fresh and tasted great with the mozzarella. Next we ordered the rib eye steak which, for $38, came with soup (clam chowder) or salad AND baked potato AND a veg (which was broccoli). The soup was very good with lots of clams. The potato and broccoli were fresh and cooked perfectly. But the steak was amazing - cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. read more
