I ordered the Mediterranean bread Board. It came with 5 thin slices of toasted Italian bread with olive oil. It was very good, but cost $10. This is something you would get as part of your dinner experience in another restaurant. Especially none of the meals come with a salad. My appetizer was the Stacks. It was 4 slices of beet and a very small serving of Burrata. In was good, however it should have had a bigger portion of cheese. It was so small, you could not get the effect of the cheese. My main meal was the Pasta Board. I told the waiter that I didn't want the pasta on a board and wanted in bowls, which they did. I could not imagine eating this off a board. The sauces were good and the portion size for the red sauces good, however the white sauce was one was very small. For dessert I had the ice cream with espresso. It was good, but the scoop of ice cream was very small. To sum up the experience, good food and small portions. No free bread with the meals or salad. read more

Overall, food was pretty good but was quite overpriced for the portion. I had the cod fish special over orzo risotto. Waitress said it came with seasonal vegetables to include squash etc, it didn't. It had kalamata olives and lots of capers. It made for a salty bite every time. I picked out all the capers. It was a very small portion of fish and risotto for $40. The farro salad, we added ahi tuna. Tuna had no flavor, no seasoning or crust. Very little farro or butternut, mostly lettuce. Cuban, heavy bread ratio. Otherwise was good. Three drinks were good: passionfruit mojito, guava coco margarita, were the average price for a drink out these days. The Oxford spritz was $25 dollars--that's insane... if we knew that price, would never have ordered. Apps: king pao dumplings, wish I took a picture -- they were beyond mini. Waste of money IMO. Yuca fries were a little undercooked to be creamy (we've had them other places better). Shrimp tacos were good. On a Friday night: only two tables outside were filled, 3 other tables inside besides ours from 630/830. When they first opened, you couldn't get in without a reservation as people were getting in to try it. My guess is people aren't returning. We wouldn't either unfortunately. Super cute location in downtown Branford. Street parking only, no lot. While the space is well decorated and small, it can also get quite noisy. My husband and I had a hard time talking due to the small space and tables tightly packed in. The bao buns were really good, would recommend. The pasta flight was good. Pesto had the most flavor, the other two were ok. My husband enjoyed his steak. It was cooked exactly how he liked. Good portion sizes. read more

I wish I could give more stars for this restaurant. The Oxford is just what the CT shoreline needed. The food is fresh, delicious and served in a style that mirrors a five star restaurant in New York City. What makes The Oxford stand out is the warm and inviting atmosphere with a knowledgeable and courteous staff. We were greeted as we walked in the door, no waiting for a host or hostess to seat us. From the time we sat down until the end of our dinner and desert we were treated like family. The dining room was decorated with an understated elegance and the bathroom was spotless and kept with plenty of supplies. Food is prepared with quality and fine details in mind. The street corn empanadas had a great dough, not too heavy doughy, great flavor and just crisp enough. A bit larger than a tapas joint. Very unique pan-asian, portuguese offerings along with classic american dishes. Order what you want, fires and salad separate, none of that giant plate you throw half in the garbage if you cant eat it all, if you want fries...sweet potato yucca, potato fired if you like. Sufficient portions compared to French cuisine. The Caesar with grilled romaine and shaved egg was a very nice Caesar offering. We had ours with blackened chicken - exactly what I'd expect for blackened chicken add on without being dried out. Cornmeal fried Oyster Burger was very tasty. A bit short staffed this Saturday so took a while for food to be served, Drinks were well crafted. Let these folk settle in on their staff turnover and be patient until they do. They aint going to slam out your food but instead they will pay attention to detail and quality. They open at 5pm so don't worry about lunch "hour". 5 stars on food and drink quality and gracious staff. Once they recover from staff turnover, I think its 5 across the board. Ambiance was pretty good inside, servers were nice but the service was slow. The burger itself was good but couldn't taste the blue cheese at all it was such a small amount of it on the burger. Also the truffle fries tasted like regular fries sprinkled with parmesan. The cacio pepe was so watery I didn't even eat that. I probably would go back for food but maybe drinks. read more

Went last weekend & really enjoyed it! Great energy and we agreed all the dishes were great. Drinks were delicious and not overly sweet. Our waiter, Cyrus, was clearly very experienced and attentive to the perfect degree in spite of being very busy. Are there kinks to work out? Of course - it's a new restaurant. That being said the service, food & drink were superior to a lot of places we've been and the prices were on par with others in the area. The owner was greeting guests & helping where needed. There was not an empty seat and our fellow diners seemed happy to. Absolutely give it a try! You won't be sorry but do make a reservation - this is going to be a popular place! read more

Celebrating my birthday with my friends last night at The Oxford and we had an amazing time. The restaurant is comfortable cozy, the menu was eclectic, lots of great choices. The food was very well thought out and prepared. Our farro winter salad with a light lemon dressing was delicious and my pasta flight ( with 3 different pasta choices )was exceptional. Lots of varieties of food that were not expensive and very nice serving sizes. Service was great and we loved it. We can't wait to see how it evolves, it has been open about a month. The service was very good, the waiter was very attentive. However the food was subpar, the host was kind enough to remove the appetizers we order from the bill "plantains & ribs". The pasta flight was ok, the penne alla vodka was the only one that had good flavor. Unfortunately I couldn't in good conscience recommend this place to my friends but I really hope thing get better for them it is such a nice location. read more

My wife and I called at 6:30 asking about a table at 8:30, they told us no reservation needed and to come on down. We took an uber and got dropped off there, it was raining. They confirmed they had open tables but the kitchen wasn't accepting any more orders, they refused to seat us. At 8:30pm (the restaurant closes at 10). We explained we were stranded there, had called ahead, had been dropped off and there without a ride, and it was raining, but they told the two of us to leave. We walked in the rain somewhere else. The service and ambiance was great. The fish tacos were great, unfortunately my steak was over cooked and a bit chewy, but I would definitely come back to try another dish.
