Super surprised by a previous review which is far from the truth. Can't say enough positives about the entire staff at the The Painted Pooch. Before Covid when my two dogs are there, I would hang out for a while just to watch all these beautiful animals being groomed. At no time have I ever seen any animal in distress. Yes, there has been a time or two when grooming was a bit longer than usual, however when any one dog might need additional support you can bet that the staff will be sure to comfort that beloved pet in able to complete a grooming. Took our dog there for the second time to get a shave, but was very disappointed to find a number of small scabs on him where they knicked him with the razor; no one mentioned that upon picking him up. These people are TALENTED. I took my pomeranian / papillion, Badger, here to get his fur cut. We took him to two different groomers before, both of which were bad experiences. I was pretty weary about taking him somewhere again, but his fur was just getting out of control & this place had great reviews, so I decided to take the chance. The inside is very open so that you can see all the pups getting trimmed. I like that they have this layout, because other groomers have everything closed off which just gives you an uneasy feeling. Badger got his fur trimmed by the red headed lady (can't recall her name). At first when she took Badger, she immediately commented on how matted his fur was. She was saying it in a way that came off as a bit insulting. Anyone who owns a pom knows how thick their fur is, & even with a daily brushing it has a mind of it's own. Plus with our bad experiences with groomers made me not want to take him to one again, so his fur hadn't gotten a proper cut in awhile. But it just made me uncomfortable how she was commenting on his fur. She pulled out a form for me to sign acknowledging that his fur was matted & that he may have to be shaved. The way she was going on, she sounded like she was just going to shave him right off the bat. Luckily the owner, Lauren, came over & mitigated the situation. She was actually in the process of trimming a pom that had the "look" that I wanted Badger to have, & she said they would brush / blow him out so that he wouldn't have to be shaved. I felt so much more relieved after hearing that. My boyfriend picked Badger up about 3 hours later & he looked GREAT. They did a fantastic job & he looked so handsome. We will definitely be coming back so that his fur doesn't get matted again & he can keep looking dapper :) read more

I have a Havanese and as such am always afraid of leaving my dog with an groomer that doesn't know the breed or how the coat should be cut. Yelp reviews gave me the confidence to try Lauren and her team. The Havanese has a silky long coat that is prone to matting. Though I am very conscientious and have all the right combs and brushes, I still managed to leave some mats in. Lauren called me about them as she encountered them. A Petco or Petsmart, or otherwise inexperienced groomer will reflexively shave down the dog which you will discover to your horror when you come to pick it up. Lauren explained that she could brush and comb out the mats for a limited amount of time because at a certain point it would be painful to the dog, and neither of us wanted that. So I knew to expect that due to the mats the cut may be shorter than I had asked for, but importantly from my perspective, my pup would not be simply shaved because that was quicker and faster. Lauren also invited me to bring in my combs and brushes and she would show me how to comb in such a way to detect and remove mats. I know it sounds simple but until you've owned a dog with a light silky coat you may not grasp why some of us get a little neurotic. The grooming ran about an hour longer than anticipated due to the mats, and I offered to pay accordingly and tipped on top of that. I appreciate a grooming shop that puts the dog and customer first. read more

She does an outstanding job with my dog and is able to help with my her problem areas (eye disease and ears). The salon is pristine which is something I have seen lacking in other salons. I scheduled an appointment here because it was the closest 5-star​ rating groomers to me & in general. I was scheduled for​ another day but, sadly I was called to reschedule due to the groomers family emergency. Although this was disappointing​, they offered to give me a discount for my troubles which was very kind. I am pleased to say that the cut was so adorable! It was exactly what I pictured. I am giving a 4-star only because after picked up doggy I was COVERED in little hairs. I can only imagine how itchy she must be​ if I was, just by holding her. Not really sure the routine of a full grooming but it would've been nice if the bath was after to prevent the excess hair all over. ​Other than that I would recommend this place & I will be coming back. read more

Full disclosure: I do reception here, and I interact with customers and their pets all day. The Painted Pooch groomers truly care about the animals that come through these doors, there's no doubt in my mind about that. They consider your pet(s) to be a beloved extension of the Painted Pooch Family. The motto here is "humanity over vanity." This is why they take ... their ... time. It's called being safe and keeping your pet comfortable. Where scissors and sharp blades are involved with your pet's experience, wouldn't you want the groomers to take their time and be careful? If you are looking for speedy service, and you just don't have patience for things like safety or comfort for your pet, then this is NOT the grooming shop for you. Sure, these skilled professionals can accommodate your busy schedule when given advance notice, but if you book a last minute, same-day appointment that we have put a lot of effort into accommodating, and then you call every hour demanding to know "what's taking so long" it not only comes off as disrespectful, but in the long run it could stress out your pet via stressing us out. Here are the top reasons a quality grooming experience may take longer than you might expect: 1. If this is your pet's first experience, it could be a bit scary for them. We respect that and WILL NOT force your pet through any aspect of the appointment that seems too stressful for them (e.g. our high velocity air dryer that can be alarming for your canine kiddo). We want your dog to associate our shop with positive experiences so that they might have an easier, better time during their next visit. 2. If your pet's coat is matted, it can be very time consuming to carefully brush, spot shave, or otherwise eliminate matted coat humanely, in a way that is not traumatizing and involves minimal pain/discomfort. Having matted hair is usually already so uncomfortable for your pet, and often painful. 3. Accidents happen. Occasionally a dog will bite or a cat will scratch (yes, cats get groomed), and sometimes it is serious and requires immediate medical attention, which creates a deficit in staff members. Another less serious but nonetheless very time consuming type of accident has to do with pee and poop. Sometimes, when a dog is scared, it will evacuate its bowels--a natural fight or flight response. Imagine that we have just bathed and dried a large dog for, say, 90 minutes, and then that dog suddenly poops and gets its own fecal matter all over itself. At that point, we have to go back to square one and re-bathe. What do you think happens to the rest of the schedule then? Unfortunately, it becomes a domino effect, and we end up scrambling a bit to make up for lost time. 4. Other stressors that could cause setbacks include but are not limited to troublesome home life, full moons, and miscellaneous health issues your pet might be experiencing. 5. Your groomers are human. They may be experiencing health issues such as groomer's lung (google it), carpal tunnel from grooming, or frozen shoulder/rotator cuff issues due to the repetitive motions of grooming. Maybe a big, unruly dog has just jerked your groomer's shoulder out of its socket, and now they are grooming today with a handicap. Maybe their mother died two weeks ago, and they are moving a bit slower today because the funeral was last weekend. Maybe you could afford your groomer some patience and compassion because they are, after all, human. The variety of pets we encounter are so vast and differing--from big, friendly and furry, to small and anxious-- that we have to thoughtfully and often painstakingly schedule most appointments. Sometimes it can be a bit of a logic puzzle. There are multiple factors including but not limited to making sure there are enough tubs, dryers, and plenty of staff at any given time. Furthermore, certain dogs take much longer to dry than others. Some dogs are loud, and when there is a cat on the schedule, loud dogs can be a risk factor. Therefore, we can only schedule a finite amount of big dogs, double-coated dogs, cats or otherwise high maintenance circumstances. Bottom line: if you are in a rush and need speedy service *let us know at the time of booking* and we will do our best and act accordingly. The sooner we know, the better we can plan for your's and your pet's unique needs, safety, and comfort. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and respect. read more

Took both of my Siberian huskies to get a bath and a trim they did an amazing job. Even gave my boys treats they truly spoil them when they are in there care. They were left so clean and did an anti shed treatment as well. Owner was so sweet and even offered a discount for one of my pups since he did not stay still for the whole process and they were not able to fully finish cleaning his bottom dry.
