    Rooftop pool

Love this place!! Would give it 6 stars. It was the little things - off the charts great service and thoughtful and well played. I'm a coffee drinker...they have an awesome coffee setup beginning 7:00 am and all day on every floor by the elevator! Mornings have danish and pastries and evenings cookies. Fresh fruit 24/7! This I loved! When I checked in they asked what time I want my room made up and what time I wanted turn down service and delivered! Fresh water bottles daily, turn down service with these neat lemony short bread cookies (very good!) and robe and slippers neatly laid out. They did everything well! Also, rooms were spotless and in good shape though nothing fancy or huge. Nice bathroom abd hvac worked well. Amazing location! Rooftop bar is super nice! Employers were cheerful, helpful and professional. Just a great spot all around!

Beautiful ambiance on rooftop ... terrible service 9/14/25

Terrible service, beautiful views, drinks mediocre and expensive. The bartender definitely didn't want to be there and treated us like we weee the reason he was. Too bad cause it's a great rooftop, but there are others on Charleston you may feel more welcome with better atmosphere.

A Charleston happy hour bucket list spot. Beautiful views of our Holy City. Close to Church & Union or Amen's so easy spot to grab drinks before or after dinner. I always only get beer but they do have a good cocktail menu.

This is a gorgeous hotel right in the heart of the French Quarter. I found it because of their amazing restaurant and I feel lucky to be here. I'll be exploring more and will update this review, but first impressions is it's an amazing place and the people who with here are delightful and kind. I've started in a lot of girls and resorts and I'm picky. This is an exceptional experience thus far. Nicely done.

This hotel is in center of French Quarter...historic district....center of the action. One to 5 minute walk to all venues ..prime location. Beautiful rooms... Tops on cleanliness...service ..staff .... Room service was awesome..fresh strawberries..blueberries...blackberries....enough for two !!

Awesome Bar with great eats! Fried Lobster, pictures attached, was amazing! Fried perfectly and the sauce and garnishments were a perfect complement to the dish. I went to three places for Old Fashioneds and apps, all were very good, but this place won the gold medal in both categories. The Bartender mixed up one of the better Old Fashioneds in Charleston. I cannot wait to get back here!

A well-placed and well-appointed hotel that sits on the corner of East Bay Street and South Market Street. Up to the roof we went despite the slightly misting rain. The view is phenomenal as it is across East Bay Street from the Customs House and, as noted, is sitting on South Market Street, way above the market itself. As you exit the elevator and enter through the glass doors into the bar area, you are facing the swimming pool for the hotel. Yes, it is roof top swimming pool which in the cold months is covered with a clear plexiglass. Around to the left is the bar, where you can settle down into a high bar stool or, as we preferred, sit around the edge with the same style and height bar stools under an umbrella over the stools and the metal table. You really can get lost in the view and forget to talk. The wine was good, cold and slightly expensive, but you are there for the ambience and the view of course. If you are in downtown Charleston, treat yourself to the rooftop bar here and spend some time.

Super fancy rooftop bar in downtown Charleston. There is even a pool. Lots of loud seating all around the sides so you can look around. It's loud because it's all iron. Drinks (We had pomegranate martini, dirty martini and Jack and coke all came in plastic glasses. Very expensive, martinis are 14 to 16.

I'd come back for the views but the drinks are pricy and service is pretty bad. Takes forever for a waiter to bring you a menu, bring your drinks, and then the check. The drinks were at least good and pretty strong.

Nice downtown Charleston hotel with a very nice restaurant steakhouse on the first floor called grill 225. Smallish size bar in the lobby.

Spent a beautiful afternoon on the rooftop bar, such a lovely place to spend the afternoon. Would love to come here and stay one day, gorgeous pool up there, great big bar, lots of gorgeous iron table & chairs and beautifully decorated. Staff were all accommodating and friendly. Food and drinks were top notch. There wasn't an unhappy face in sight. There were families, couples, pre wedding parties, everyone was seated apart and enjoying their day. The tuna tower was amazing, shrimp salad croissant had just enough dill in it to want you to have one more bite, crab cocktail was so fresh & delicious, and the duck nachos had a great combination of Smokey duck with pineapple & mango - just terrific. Their cocktails were refreshing and exactly what you needed on a sunny day

Make a note: this is for the rooftop bar only. We did not stay at this hotel so I cannot speak to what the hotel is like. However we spent a good amount of time at that fantastic bar on the roof sitting near the pool. It's busy both day and night and the views are spectacular. The bartenders are heavy-handed so beware. Evenings bring a real mixed crowd as this is a more high-end hotel there are less college age kids milling about. But at night and weekends that isn't the case. Usually when a table is commandeered, they don't leave it for the rest of the evening- people like to keep their real estate LOL! We thought it was one of the better roof top bars in a very lively part of Charleston. And like most of Charleston people tend to dress for the evening which was the case here as well.

What does free parking mean? Is it the same as valet? It was included in my stay

We paid $35 for our parking and it was valet. I did not see any nearby self park garage so I would assume valet is included, but I would call the front desk and ask. Enjoy this great hotel!

There were a lots of bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. They boast about their butler service, which is pretty unique in the United States (akin to the resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean). We only stayed one night and did not make the most out of it. Our butler was very pleasant and offered detailed recommendations regarding restaurants in the area. The staff is welcoming and friendly. We arrived early and had to wait a few hours until our room was ready. That was a slight nuisance as it was a cold and rainy October weekend in Charleston. Luckily they had plenty of umbrellas for us to use. The welcome cocktails were a nice touch when we were finally able to check-in. Other nice touches include the complimentary drinks, candies and snacks that were already waiting in the room. The turndown service also included chocolate and a small sweet alcoholic drink / shot. Lastly, the included room service breakfast in the morning elevates the stay. A lot of good things. However, I thought the rooms themselves were just okay and a bit dated. Our friends stayed at a boutique hotel with vaulted ceilings and its own kitchenette for less money. Another disappointment was that we booked a room with a small outdoor courtyard, but were given a regular room. Given the weather, we probably wouldn't have used the outdoor space at all, but it would be good to get what you paid for. Overall very good service and location. They have a nice bar by the lobby that we did not make use of. The rooms themselves are just okay and on the small size. I would probably stay somewhere else next time I visit Charleston, even though I have nothing bad to say about The Spectator. Maybe my expectations were too high with a 4.8 / 5 average Yelp score. I just think there's better value elsewhere.

The nice amenities, decent gym and friendly staff are what creates the environment for a pleasant experience. Two of these were met and the friendly staff, was mostly there. . .but one sour apple truly changed the course of our stay. Even my wife, who worked once upon a time in hospitality at Kiawah Resort, was started by the interactions from The Loutrel Hotel staff member. Long story short. The daily complimentary breakfast was served. I accidentally went to place the granola lid on the yogurt, my wife told me that was the wrong lid and I went to correct. From across the room the breakfast attendant yelled, "sir that doesn't go there." Startled, I immediately removed it and placed it accordingly. I laughed it off. Moments later I went to sit my breakfast down where my drink was located. Same attendant, "you're not even sitting at the right table with your wife." Again, my error, but don't call me out twice in one morning. It's a small lobby, so many staff members overheard the interaction. Nothing was done by other management. The next morning, I walked down to look at breakfast. I saw the same attendant and said, good morning. She looked at me but wasn't pleasant in her response. Unlike the rest of her colleagues at the restaurant who are polite and kind, the same customer service I expect and provide to my customers. Breakfast offered salmon with some type of eggs or shellfish. I can't eat shellfish, allergic. So, I went to grab a biscuit at a local coffee shop and a coffee. We came back to the hotel and sat our food down. The same rude attendant came over, nudged my wife in her back and said, "you can't have this here, cross contamination." So, I left. Allowed my wife to eat her yogurt in the area. Funny enough, my wife asked where the utensils were, because every table had them. Same attendant rudely, pointed to another table for her to get them. I should have just sat down and ate my food as I didn't see any signs for "no outside food." Either way, stay somewhere else. It's unfortunate that a hotel like this allows such rudeness from a staff member. I did report this to the manager, and online but was met with more passivity. Comped two nights of valet. Honestly, it wasn't enough. I would never stay here again and it ended the trip on such a sour note.

BUT when we got to the room, after self parking at the public garage behind the hotel, we opened the door to the cutest little room. It was sized as if it was in New York City but had cute boho chic charm. It's perfectly located in the middle of everything and the walkability was what we enjoyed most. We walked to all of the best restaurants and shops once we parked, we only left the a garage once the entire time there. We loved the daily breakfast and were intentional about making it downstairs for it. The grits were absolutely delicious.
