We selected this hotel for our wedding anniversary because of the roof top pool and bar, plus a great location in the French Quarter, easy walking to many sites. Here is the run down on the hotel: Check-in: (4 Stars) We arrived very late and they had our room key package ready. They were very nice and information us about the hotel. Customer Service: (4 Stars) The concierge was very knowledge and help us find a sandwich shop to pack for our sailing trip. Great sandwich place right across the street. There was also a grocery store down the block for alcohol and other stuff, short 5 min walk. Room: (4.5 Stars) Luxury Room, 1 King Bed It has 2 night stands on each side of the king bed The lights were easy to turn off and on, good placement. The mini fridge was empty so you could put your items in but it was not that cold. I adjusted it from 3 to 6 (1 is off I found out) but it didn't make a difference. They have an extra mirror in the room, plus another one inside the armoire. The king sized pillows were plenty, 4 and good quality Bathroom: (4 Stars) The toilet was not in it's own closet with a door, it's open to the whole bathroom. Not good! But the toilet seat was a slow closeing one, nice touch! The walk in shower was very nice with good water pressure, very comfortable. There was only 1 sink, for a king suite it should be 2. The lights were good, they even have a plug in a night light, nice touch! Plenty of towel holders, including hand towel holders in from of the sink. They have large mirror over the sink for getting ready, plus a side makeup mirror with a light. Bath tub was standard size, 1 person. Weight scale and hair dryer where included. The hair dryer was good quality. Closet: (4 Stars) The closest was a standing armoire, it comes with iron and iron board No hooks Plenty of hangers (wooden and plush silk wrapped) Robes, good quality Shoe Horn, nice touch! If your staying more than 3 days it might get cramped. Maid Service: (4 Stars) They have treats at turn down. No issues, but I wish they'd provided 2 bottles of water per person instead of 1, complementary of course but if your going to do it... It get's hot and water goes quickly. View: (3 Stars) City Street and market place. Lobby: (4 Stars) The lobby bar was beautifully done, nice place to have a drink while waiting. The lobby decor was beautifully done. The lobby bathroom was far down the hall, away from the main traffic. Each toilet has it own fully closed door, so it like a private bathroom, perfect for doing your business outside of the room or changing before a flight. Outdoor Amenities: (5 Stars) No jacuzzi, but they do have a roof top pool and you can order from the pool. They close the pool at 6pm, but the bar is open later. Pool bar had a great selection of drinks and top shelf liquor. I highly recommended the hotel for a couples getaway (with our kids). read more

I chose Market Pavilion Hotel expecting a luxury stay with accessible accommodations. Unfortunately, the experience was the opposite. From the start, the hotel did not provide basic accessibility features:    *   I was told there was a pool lift--there was not.    *   The bathroom in the room lacked required grab bars around the toilet. The hotel did move us to a larger room that was described as having a roll-in shower. However, while it may have been considered "accessible" on paper, it was not usable in practice. The shower had a marble threshold that I could not get my walker over independently. The space itself was extremely tight (approximately 3'x3'), and the opening barely accommodated the walker. There was no shower seat, and only a fixed shower head, which meant I required assistance to use it at all. I even had to bring my walker into the shower, soaking it in the process. This is not functional accessibility. We spent hours on our first day trying to work through these issues with staff, which caused us to miss previously secured dinner reservations at Magnolia's. As a result, we ate at the hotel's restaurant, Grill 225, assuming the situation would be appropriately addressed. Instead, only $100 was taken off the bill, which did not reflect the time lost or the impact on our stay. What was most disappointing was the lack of meaningful engagement from management. We were repeatedly told things would be passed along, but no one in a decision-making position addressed the situation directly--even while senior leadership was on site. There were also inconsistencies in how amenities were described. The pool was presented as heated, but when we asked about it, one staff member struggled to explain before another stated plainly that it was "heated by the sun." That moment reflected a broader pattern where expectations set by the hotel did not match the reality on the ground. This experience was not just inconvenient--it created real barriers and safety concerns. For a hotel positioning itself as a luxury property, this level of inaccessibility and lack of accountability is unacceptable. Stayed here for our anniversary. Picked it for the location in the French Quarter and the fact that booking.com said breakfast was included on the rooftop each morning. They have a selection of coffee, tea, fruit and pastries by the elevator each morning, but that's it. The vibe is stuffy, old-fashioned and elderly. When we checked in the front desk asked what time wanted cleaning, and what time we wanted turn-down service. I don't know why they asked, because the cleaners showed up whenever it was convenient for them. One time, it was at 9:30, they constantly rang the doorbell and yelled "turn down service!" In the hallway, even though we'd requested that to be at 6:30 while we were out at dinner. The cleaner also just walked in the morning we checked out, without even knocking- and it was only 10am so we technically had the room for two more hours! My advice is utilize the do not disturb sign!!! All of that might have been fine if it weren't for the price. This place was more expensive than a boutique midcentury hotel that I stayed at that was on the beach in Santa Monica, California. That hotel was way nicer and ON THE BEACH IN CALIFORNIA. I almost booked through booking.com, but since I've heard that can lead to issues I booked with the hotel directly, which was more expensive. I explained this to them when I booked, thinking they would match it (as every other hotel does when you're calling them directly and avoiding booking.com's fees) but nope- they couldn't care less. The carpet was gross and sticky, the air conditioner didn't go low enough, and the valet was confusing and brusque. I expected a lot more southern hospitality than I experienced here. Would not recommend spending the funds- just stay at a more reasonably priced place and uber to the French quarter. Oh, I did reach out to the hotel to let them know my concerns with the communication between the front desk and the cleaning staff, and I never heard back from them. I'm a coffee drinker...they have an awesome coffee setup beginning 7:00 am and all day on every floor by the elevator! Mornings have danish and pastries and evenings cookies. Fresh fruit 24/7! This I loved! When I checked in they asked what time I want my room made up and what time I wanted turn down service and delivered! Fresh water bottles daily, turn down service with these neat lemony short bread cookies (very good!) and robe and slippers neatly laid out. They did everything well! Also, rooms were spotless and in good shape though nothing fancy or huge. Nice bathroom abd hvac worked well. Amazing location! Rooftop bar is super nice! We checked in to the Market Pavilion to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We had stayed there before and knew it had a wonderful rooftop bar and pool area. The room was fine. The last time we stayed we had a small college frig in the room. This time there wasn't one so we called down and they said they did not have a small frig but had a breast milk cooler. Thought that was a little odd. We went to the pool and got settled and noticed there was a note on the inside of the door leading to the pool that said the pool was closed. Not on the outside where one might see it better. So I went to the bar and asked about the pool and got a sharp answer back that he did not know anything about the pool. I also asked for a drink menu and the bartender said we just got here...we are not open... we need time to set up in a angry tone. I apologized and walked away. I then asked the maintenance gentleman if he knew anything about the pool and he said he wasn't sure but he knew he would be blamed for it. Again, odd. So finally I went downstairs to the front desk and they said the pool would likely be closed all day. A problem for sure since the major reason we chose this hotel was because of the pool. The situation was handled very poorly and I actually had to warn several guests not to go in the water because they didn't see the small sign. The bar staff never came over to ask for our drink order....We had to go the bar and when we had lunch the waitress was morn interested in talking to the bartender than waiting on us. The worst part is I reached out to the hotel when we got home and they never responded. I don't think I will be staying there again...... read more

A well-placed and well-appointed hotel that sits on the corner of East Bay Street and South Market Street. Up to the roof we went despite the slightly misting rain. The view is phenomenal as it is across East Bay Street from the Customs House and, as noted, is sitting on South Market Street, way above the market itself. As you exit the elevator and enter through the glass doors into the bar area, you are facing the swimming pool for the hotel. Yes, it is roof top swimming pool which in the cold months is covered with a clear plexiglass. Around to the left is the bar, where you can settle down into a high bar stool or, as we preferred, sit around the edge with the same style and height bar stools under an umbrella over the stools and the metal table. You really can get lost in the view and forget to talk. The wine was good, cold and slightly expensive, but you are there for the ambience and the view of course. If you are in downtown Charleston, treat yourself to the rooftop bar here and spend some time. read more

Spent a beautiful afternoon on the rooftop bar, such a lovely place to spend the afternoon. Would love to come here and stay one day, gorgeous pool up there, great big bar, lots of gorgeous iron table & chairs and beautifully decorated. Staff were all accommodating and friendly. Food and drinks were top notch. There wasn't an unhappy face in sight. There were families, couples, pre wedding parties, everyone was seated apart and enjoying their day. The tuna tower was amazing, shrimp salad croissant had just enough dill in it to want you to have one more bite, crab cocktail was so fresh & delicious, and the duck nachos had a great combination of Smokey duck with pineapple & mango - just terrific. Make a note: this is for the rooftop bar only. We did not stay at this hotel so I cannot speak to what the hotel is like. However we spent a good amount of time at that fantastic bar on the roof sitting near the pool. It's busy both day and night and the views are spectacular. The bartenders are heavy-handed so beware. Evenings bring a real mixed crowd as this is a more high-end hotel there are less college age kids milling about. But at night and weekends that isn't the case. Usually when a table is commandeered, they don't leave it for the rest of the evening- people like to keep their real estate LOL! I spend a significant amount of time researching areas before we go on vacation because I like to get to know the area before I make decisions. My husband is the opposite and has more spontaneity than I do. Between the two of us, we end up hitting a perfect medium. My extensive research however led us to this hotel and booking our reservation here for our trip to Charleston. There were few things that I knew about Charleston, but I felt like staying here was the most centrally located and most elegant option for the money. I loved the photos I saw online of this hotel, and I was excited about trying Hermes bath products and high-quality bedding in our room. I was very much looking forward to staying here... Until I suddenly and abruptly couldn't. Just a few days before we were supposed to be leaving for our trip, we got a phone call from the concierge saying that they had been doing renovations in the hotel. They said that their renovations took longer than they had anticipated and so they were suddenly no longer going to be able to accommodate us for our stay. I was both shocked and upset about this phone call, which was made to me in a very calm and matter of fact manner. Following the phone call, the concierge sent me an email with a link to an online third party to look for alternate lodging for our stay. The hotels that she sent me were what I consider cheap "big box hotels," and not the intimate and personal experience that I was planning on for our trip. Additionally, because they took so long to tell me this, the hotels that I had options to stay at were very limited and because of how close it was to our arrival date, the prices had skyrocketed. I was furious. If it were the other way around, if I had canceled my reservation just before arriving, they would have billed me a fee for the inconvenience and for the potential loss of revenue. I emailed her back and told her that I was unhappy with how this ended up and that there was no reciprocity for the inconvenience and cost that their lack of planning had impacted our trip. It really wouldn't have been that difficult for them to have contacted me earlier as they had seen their timeline slide to the right and told me "hey, I think this may impact your trip- you may want to make other accommodations while you still have some time." The reason I am giving them two stars instead of one star is that the concierge did take my email into consideration and they did refund me some money to offset the cost of my new reservation. It did not by far cover the increase in the cost of the replacement reservation, however I thought it was a appropriate gesture in their own retrospect, given the circumstance. We still ended up being hundreds of dollars out of pocket over what it would have cost us if they had not canceled our reservation so late. We did walk by the hotel once they were reopened, and the place did look beautiful, however I was so angry still about how they handled things, I did not want to go inside. The location is great, but this experience soured my view of this hotel, and I do not think I will plan to stay there when I return on my next visit to Charleston. read more

My partner and I stayed here while we were on our trip to Charleston. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would stay again upon a return trip. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is great and the hotel is in a walkable area. The hotel is located to the market that has a lot of vendors. We had a nice sized room and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very nice too and I appreciated that there was a walk in shower instead of the tub/shower combo. The decor is a bit dated and it can do with a refresh. The major downside to our room was the view. We had a view of their parking garage and there was a parking spot right next to our window. If there was a crowded hotel we could very well have a view of cars at eye level. The view was a real bummer but not worth the price the hotel wanted to charge us to upgrade a view especially since the hotel was not at capacity. For the price per night I expected no charge to change our room. For breakfast we had a selection of pastries and fruit on our floor! We didn't even need to go to the dining area for breakfast! There were also carafes or coffee and hot water on our floor so we had access to coffee and tea for most of the morning. Instead of to go cups we had teacups and saucers for our beverage of choice. On the rooftop was a pool, bar, and gym. The views from the rooftop were awesome and we had great views of Charleston from all directions. The bar was not open during our stay but we enjoyed the views! If we are back in Charleston we will consider staying again at the Market Pavilion Hotel due to our comfort during the stay and the hotel's location. read more

The location right downtown next to the marketplace can't be beat! Booked a weekend pre Christmas trip to Charleston for myself and the wife through Expedia. Unfortunately the wife contracted Covid the week before the trip, was quite sick, and we had to cancel. Hotel refused to refund the room (well in excess of $1000) despite being given 5 days notice and despite Expedia trying to negotiate. No reschedule option, no room credit. United Airlines had no problem refunding our flights. We will definitely be visiting Charleston again in the near future, but we will not be staying at the Market Pavilion. read more

I stayed here for my birthday and had overall an incredible time. I'm giving them 4 stars but if I could give stars for categories I'd 5 stars simply for this reason: The CHEF. Every morning we had an amazing spread of breakfast pastries and Every night we were left delicious homemade (Greek) cookies and desserts that were such a nice touch and perfect end to a long day of exploring Charleston. Also, 5 stars for the location, and restaurant downstairs. The pool on the roof was great for the early morning before it got too hot-- particularly before they turned on the loud music and fountain. I know it's an old hotel so it being a little dated didn't shock me but I think it could definitely use some updating. The biggest issue with the room was NO MINI FRIDGE!!! This is a must need addition! The beds were comfortable and the size of the room was perfect and clean. I will say the staff is extremely nice and accommodating, however the concierge wasn't the most helpful person and a few of the maids threw away all of our newspapers which I understand was a mistake. We ended up extending our stay regardless and I would I definitely stay there again-- especially if they got that mini fridge just so we could keep our water cold! read more

If we could we'd do 4.5. We Loved the style and size of our room. The room service was impeccable. We didn't have to ask for anything. Fresh towels, water, cookies, turndown service. The concierge floor services were totally worth it. The staff is really professional and helpful. I'd definitely return. The only things we could say are that the water pressure could be better. There were no clear recycling containers, so we kept bringing things down to the front desk. We didn't see any place on the housekeeping cart for recycling. Wow!!! Let's talk about that view-AMAZING!! I was surprised to walk on the roof and see a pool, a bar, lounge chairs, and high top tables! It was breathtaking! We were able to snag the last table and the DJ was super sweet to bring us our menus. The three of us ordered drink while we looked at the menu in hopes of sharing an appetizer. My drink was perfect-fruit and refreshing. We ordered a flatbread pizza to share and we all were extremely pleased with our selection! Our server, Andrew did a pretty good job. It was nice that the manager stopped by our table asking where we were from. He offered suggestions on other places to go for food and fun!! People were very nice about taking photos for us. The restroom was very clean. As we left and walking through the hotel lobby to exit, the smell of delicious food was overwhelming! The roof top experience is a must for out of towners!! read more

WARNING: BEWARE-- DO NOT STAY HERE- PLEASE READ THIS CRITICAL INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR SAFETY AND HEALTH!!! The Market Pavilion Hotel deserves zero stars based on what occurred on the night of my stay. A loud shrilling fire alarm inside the hotel went off around 11:15 pm without any explanation while we were in bed. It took several attempts to contact the front desk to inquire. All the guests on the floor were popping their heads outside their door confused and not knowing whether it was time to run for your life including a guest who was standing outside his door in his boxer shorts repetitively saying " I don't know whether to go or not." There were no announcements. We called the front desk and we were told that there was a fire, but everything was ok. The smoke detector in our room goes off again and started "chirping" every couple of minutes. Rebecca and Bryant both "managers" came to inspect. Bryant appeared perplexed by the sound of the smoke detector. Rebecca nonchalantly says, "oh, it's the battery, the battery needs to be changed". And she instructs Bryan to go get the ladder. Bryant comes struggling into our room carrying a 12 foot ladder to "replace the battery" on the smoke detector. This is when this saga was just too surreal to believe. I truly felt that I was watching a scene from a comedy skit of Laurel and Hardy or a dramatic scene from Gone with the Wind with Scarlett O'Hara. We immediately pack our things and go downstairs to request a different room. We speak to an apathetic Allison (front desk). She tells us,"there aren't any rooms available and says, "this is a nice small room". We go up to the new room and see that this room has a queen size bed and a downgrade from the room we were currently staying in. We go back downstairs and ask that we be given the same category room we paid for. I check online and see that they do have a room available with a king size bed even though Allison stated that they did not have any rooms available. Finally, after much anxiety and stress, we were given a king size bed suite room around 12:30 am. At checkout, we explain to a disinterested Eleanor (front desk) what had happened. She also states that it must have been the battery. Does that mean that this hotel has smoke detectors that are battery-operated? No one seems to know whether the fire alarm system is hard-wired. The Hotel and Motel Fire Safety Act of 1990 states that it is a legal requirement for hotels and motels to have 'hard-wired, single-station smoke detectors in each guestroom in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard. I would be very hesitant in the future to stay in a hotel where smoke detectors are solely battery-operated. Viva Johnson, a manager, at the front desk during checkout was the only person to apologize. She checked our bill to make sure we were not charged for the night, but at the expense of a sleepless night. She says "I would have upgraded you", but then says that we don't usually give that room out ( the king-size corner suite) because it involves more work to get it ready for the next guest. I tell her that I saw a king size room available for a price online. She denies that it was listed. I tell her that I have a screenshot of the listing and I can show it to her. She talks about websites and bookings which made no sense. HEALTH ALERT: the rooms also have dehumidifiers which indicates a severe problem with humidity and MOLD GROWTH inside the rooms. MOLD SPORES are circulating throughout the room. You are breathing this toxic mold and the windows do not open for fresh air. I never saw any indication that the dehumidifiers were being cleaned daily. Mold causes serious health complications. ATTENTION: ROOMS HAVE BLACK MOLD IN THE BATHROOMS and very possible there is mold behind the walls and underneath the musky carpet in the room. In conclusion, both the front desk staff and managers were very inexperienced in handling this situation. And there is mold in the rooms. Most importantly, as guests we should feel confident and safe in case of a fire. Management should be able to ensure the safety of guests. And this never happened. I would be very apprehensive to stay in a hotel that doesn't know the fire safety procedures. In a city famous for Southern Hospitality, there are many hotels and inn to choose from. The Market Pavilion Hotel does not provide that level of service. I strongly suggest that you stay somewhere else. To Gary Cohen, the General Manager, I strongly suggest you train your staff including: Rebecca, Bryant, Allison, Viva and Eleanor in fire safety procedures and customer service. The rooms are also in desperate need of mold remediation. So in spite of a nice rooftop pool and bar, I would seriously reconsider whether your health and life is more important. After a long day of travel my girlfriend and I were welcomed with open arms. Rooms are elegant and cozy. Daily housekeeping with turn down service is standard, which is a rare occurrence these days. Continental Breakfast, Coffee/Tea, Fruit and afternoon treats on each floor. The bar downstairs is classy and the view from the rooftop bar is the best in the area. Did not have a chance to dine in the restaurant, but the appetizers we ordered in the bar were on-point. All of the staff was superb and went above and beyond! I cannot even begin to describe to you how much my wife and I enjoyed the Market Pavilion Hotel! We came to celebrate her birthday and will come again for every special occasion! I specifically want to give notice to Haley, the guest services agent who not only checked me in, but valeted my car, wrote down numerous restaurant recommendations, AND ran up stairs to make sure my wife and I's champagne was on ice before our elevator could reach our floor. The night time hotel attendee, Emily, also was specifically helpful when my wife and I lost our keys. Ha! In this day in time... this service industry is hard and you should be conscious who you support. And I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone! Great stay. read more
