Plus, the portion size made it worth the price. As a bonus, the fresh orange juice (€6) was very good too. Many people recommended this location and so my family and I visited it on our recent trip to Amsterdam after going to Anne Frank's house. We thought it was just OK. My son had a kid pancake and it was very thin and not very flavorful. He didn't eat even half of it. My husband had the giant omelette, but it was actually really thin as well and so it wasn't as giant as it looks, and the egg was a little overdone because it was so thin. We ordered the Dutch pancakes and Caprese pancake which had pesto sauce, tomato, and basil. After, they asked us "which option we would like to pick" so they could press it on the machine for us. I'm sharing this because it genuinely left me feeling hurt. After we had finished our meal and paid, I took two pink straws from the basket for my child to play with--something small and harmless. The server approached me and questioned me in a tone that immediately felt cold and unkind. I explained politely, but her response only became more dismissive. Not wanting to escalate the situation, I quietly put the straws back. Even then, she continued, saying it was "bad behavior" because others would be using them. Being spoken to like that, over something so trivial, felt unnecessary and embarrassing. What stayed with me most was not the straws, but how I was made to feel in that moment--judged, uncomfortable, and unwelcome. We had the most wonderful experience today at The Pancake Bakery. We started with an excellent cappuccino. Then I had a chicken, cheese, and onion pancake, and my husband had a tomato, cheese, and onion pancake. These are huge, and absolutely delicious! We couldn't finish them, and asked to take our leftovers with us. Our terrific server wrapped up our leftovers for us. The sweetest moment came when she brought our check with a candy. When in Amsterdam, get Dutch pancakes! The large size may overwhelm you at first, but they are a lot thinner than American pancakes (and in my opinion- more delicious too!) To me, they actually felt similar to Korean pancakes, especially because I went with a savory option. I opted for the Canadian pancake that had crispy bacon, ham, onions, mushroom and cheese in it and came with a side of bbq sauce. It was phenomenal! I wanted to make sure I tried some poffertjes while in Amsterdam so I ended up eating here as well as De Carrousel Pannenkoeken and I can say with certainty that The Pancake Bakery was the better of the two and is a must stop for anyone in the area (especially since it's so close to the Anne Frank House). I got the poffertjes with chocolate sauce as well as a ham and cheese omelette. While the serving size/amount of mini pancakes you get is less here compared to De Carrousel, these ones just taste so much better. They were softer inside and basically melted in your mouth while De Carrousel version was denser and was more akin to pancakes you'd make at home with over mixed batter. These also had a perfectly thin crispness to the outer shell whereas the mini pancakes at De Carrousel where just soft and less satisfying to eat. The omelette was huge by the way. Delicious but huge so my mom and I easily shared it. I enjoyed the side salad that went along with it too. If you're looking for a place to try poffertjes/Dutch mini pancakes for the first time, I highly recommend The Pancake Bakery! Plus the location is great considering most tourists will be at the Anne Frank House at some point. De Carrousel Pannenkoeken is still ok if you're in that area and while you do get more mini pancakes on your plate, the ones made here definitively taste better and are of a higher quality in my opinion. read more

Light and crispy pancakes, although if you're more used to American style fluffy pancakes these are more reminiscent of a crepe style meal. You can chose from a selection of toppings our party went with a sweet and savory option, the cinnamon apple, bacon mushroom cheese and chicken mushroom cheese. Of the three the apple cinnamon was the standout dish, the apples are still crispy and not the overly stewed. Served with ice cream and whip cream you would think the dish would be over sugary but it wasn't! The bacon was definitely the winner of the two savory dishes, the strips of bacons were cooked inside the pancake which made for a more wiggly texture to which I preferred! We found the chicken one to be a bit on the drier side also there wasn't much cheese pull action going on but the pancake was still delicious nonetheless. The pancakes here are brilliant and it's very neat how the restaurant is tucked into the ground level. Overall the ambiance is quite nice, servers were great and our meal was tasty and plenty. My only issue with this place was that it felt quite touristy. When we travel we prefer to stay away from heavily trafficked touristy places. The food was authentic but the vibe of the place was not.
