I'm sharing this because it genuinely left me feeling hurt. After we had finished our meal and paid, I took two pink straws from the basket for my child to play with--something small and harmless. The server approached me and questioned me in a tone that immediately felt cold and unkind. I explained politely, but her response only became more dismissive. I wanted to make sure I tried some poffertjes while in Amsterdam so I ended up eating here as well as De Carrousel Pannenkoeken and I can say with certainty that The Pancake Bakery was the better of the two and is a must stop for anyone in the area (especially since it's so close to the Anne Frank House). I got the poffertjes with chocolate sauce as well as a ham and cheese omelette. While the serving size/amount of mini pancakes you get is less here compared to De Carrousel, these ones just taste so much better. They were softer inside and basically melted in your mouth while De Carrousel version was denser and was more akin to pancakes you'd make at home with over mixed batter. These also had a perfectly thin crispness to the outer shell whereas the mini pancakes at De Carrousel where just soft and less satisfying to eat. The omelette was huge by the way. Delicious but huge so my mom and I easily shared it. I enjoyed the side salad that went along with it too. If you're looking for a place to try poffertjes/Dutch mini pancakes for the first time, I highly recommend The Pancake Bakery! Plus the location is great considering most tourists will be at the Anne Frank House at some point. De Carrousel Pannenkoeken is still ok if you're in that area and while you do get more mini pancakes on your plate, the ones made here definitively taste better and are of a higher quality in my opinion. read more
