I bought local duck eggs, plenty of produce from multiple local farms, and locally roasted coffee here. We also enjoyed locally made all-natural sorbet, the coconut sorbet was the best! We came on Halloween and I was heating up in my costume so this cooled me down. It's opened on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm in September through May, and 8am to 11am in June to August. I was told all the chicken eggs sell within the first hour, so get there right at opening. It's located in the old Sears parking lot at the Arrowhead Mall. Bring your reusable bags, and have fun meeting all of the local vendors! My favorite were the goats, though they should definitely be given more space to run around. I also loved the Beal Beans couple, they were very friendly and knowledgeable about their roasts, and grinded their beans I bought from them for me since I don't have a grinder at home. I really tried to keep this review short but I couldn't - it was a very enjoyable farmers market!

July 2025…read more McClendon's...My Saturday morning addiction! If you know, you know...and if you don't know McClendon's yet, let me be the one to lovingly shove you in their direction. I've been shopping with them for years, mostly at the Uptown Farmers Market, and it's become a non-negotiable part of my weekend routine. Their fruits and veggies? On another level. I'm just telling you that once you taste their organic produce, it ruins the grocery store for you. I'm not being dramatic...okay maybe a little...but seriously, everything just tastes better. The carrots are sweeter, the citrus is brighter, and don't even get me started on the herbs. Fresh. Fragrant. Plentiful. I buy more than I need every time because I can't help myself. My fridge is so happy to be filled with all the herbs! It makes cooking seem way less like a chore and more like something wonderful that I get to do! The team is always kind, helpful, and genuinely happy to be there. You feel good shopping with people who care about what they do. Bonus? I actually spend less money here than I do at the store. Significantly less and for a much higher quality of food! It's wild. Totally worth the drive! Bottom line: McClendon's is the gold standard of Arizona farming. Your taste buds will thank you. One of these efforts is this community and urban incubator farm which was established by Cultivate South Phoenix (CUSP) to give residents of South Phoenix affordable access to healthy food while encouraging them to appreciate active living and healthy roots of their cultures. At the Saturday farmer's market you can get very locally grown produce and craft items while taking in the cultural performances of local talents. The site of Spaces of Opportunity includes a 10-acre incubator farm where quarter-acre to one-acre plots of land are made available with a preference to farmers who are part of the South Phoenix community and who have limited resources. Also, community members can rent a plot to plant, grow and harvest produce for their own use or to share with others - and the rental fee is an super-affordable $5 a month! I love that here I was able to get fresh locally grown produce as well as craft items to be given as presents and in so doing I celebrate the culture and encourage the efforts of South Phoenix gardeners, farmers and farm workers.

In fact, I've made the hour-plus drive each way more than a dozen times just to visit. Whenever I find myself anywhere in the West Valley, this place is a mandatory stop. I've taken countless photos of my visits because there is always something new to see, taste, or admire. Under its new ownership, New York West Bakery has evolved into a wonderfully unique fusion-style café. The menu is delightfully unexpected, featuring everything from traditional breakfast favorites and homemade tamales to incredible Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches. If I can dig up some of my photos, I'll add them because these sandwiches deserve their own spotlight. The transformation isn't limited to the menu. The Interior: Spotlessly clean. During one recent visit, I watched an energetic staff member carefully mopping the floors and making sure everything looked perfect. It's obvious they take pride in the place. The Exterior: They've added a charming outdoor patio complete with colorful umbrellas, comfortable seating, and newly planted trees that will provide even more shade as they grow. It's a fantastic addition and makes for a relaxing place to enjoy a pastry and coffee. The Food: Where This Place Really Shines When New York West Bakery gets it right, they absolutely knock it out of the park. Their fruit tarts are hands-down some of the best I've had in years. They're fresh, beautiful, bursting with flavor, and surprisingly affordable for the quality you're getting. Best of all, everything is made from scratch, which shows in every bite. The newer savory menu items are also a huge win. Their Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches deliver serious value. They're enormous. Honestly, one sandwich is big enough to share and still leave you feeling satisfied... or at least leave just enough room for dessert. And speaking of dessert, I have to mention those fruit tarts one more time. They're that good. My wife Lucy absolutely loves them. In fact, "love" might be an understatement. If fruit tarts had a fan club, she'd probably be the president. New York West Bakery continues to grow and evolve, and it's exciting to watch. Between the friendly atmosphere, expanding menu, beautiful patio, and from scratch-made baked goods, it's become one of my favorite hidden gems in the Valley.
