I was quite impressed w/ The Park View Hotel. The rooms are SPACIOUS and the bathrooms are quite interesting (they have a homely feel). Their amenities are great too (honey & vanilla scented. Mm!) A gentleman working the front desk the night we checked in was somewhat slow in informing us about the hotel shuttle that we had called for, so that was a bit unfortunate, but I understand there's only one person working the desk. I don't know how the Genese compares to the Park View but given they're run by the same management/company, I'd say they're both probably very similar. Only stayed for one night. We had a handicapped accessible room. The layout of the bathroom would have been very inconvenient for someone who was wheelchair bound. However, the hotel was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. You can actually get the room very chilly with the AC (a rarity in hotels nowadays). It was quiet at night, which was nice The breakfast was free and adequate. They had steel cut oats, which was a plus in my book. Parking was free and easily accessible. Would definitely stay here again! read more

First impression it was charming. Old historic feel and decorated appropriately with old-looking furniture (though nothing was actually antique). Check-in staff was friendly and accommodating. My room was spacious and spotlessly clean. Beautiful tiled bathrooms. Flat-screen television and speakers and plug-in for iPod and iPhone. Wifi Internet did not work. Elevators were a nuisance. They are old and art-deco but they function poorly. When you need to go downstairs you have to call the lobby and have someone from reception physically send it up to you. If the line is busy or they are checking guests into the hotel be prepared to wait a while. Free parking in the basement if you have a car. read more

Had to spend another night in Syracuse do the fact they do not release a family member from the Crouse Hospital. The best deal around without risking Priceline was the Parkview once more. I told them that I had spent the last two nights in room 303 and could barely sleep or hear the TV with that noisy heat/AC unit. Fortunately for me they upgraded my room and put me on the fifth floor at the end in a beautiful miniature suite -i'm as happy as a clam and wish I had this room the last two days because it's really comfy the TV is central for good viewing and there's no noisy wall unit. (room513) . Quiet peaceful good free breakfast & newspaper. Wifi good - mattress good but not great as in 303 but pleasant and would love to stay here again under different circumstances ! read more

My husband and I are staying 2 nights here. We weren't sure what to expect because we usually stay at hotel chains. This was a treat! Clean and quaint rooms. The bed slept wonderfully. It was nice and firm. Breakfast was normal but they get extra points for having my favorite hazelnut creamer. They offered sausage patties, french toast, quiche (no crust and made with liquid eggs), cereal, oatmeal packets, boiled eggs, yogurt, pastries, juice, coffee, etc. when we returned to our room after breakfast, it was already serviced! That was amazing. Parking is free behind the hotel. The soaps and toiletries are unique. It's just comfortable. I would definitely return here! Heads up on a great meal close by- Dinosaur BBQ. Your clothes will smell like bbq when you leave, but it is some of the best food I've had. It's less than a mile from the hotel. read more

Excellent accommodations for the price in this downtown hotel. The single king room was laid out well with great decor that made this hotel feel historic while still being fully updated. The lobby, business area, and bar area are cozy and comfortable. The elevators have recently been upgraded, so you can ignore previous reviews about them. While the hotel is not located in Armory Square, I would still recommend this hotel to anyone looking for some city charm who doesn't want to pay the price of the more expensive historic hotels in the area. Within walking distance, or a quick cab ride, (5-6) blocks of Syracuse night life. read more

Excellent experience staying overnight while doing college and back to school shopping. The Parkview has loads of character, which is what attracted us to try it out. The rooms are cozy, clean and plenty roomy for the four of us. We got in fairly late (after 9PM), so it wasn't clear how busy it was - but the next morning the place was bustling - I make this point because everything was so quiet that we had no idea how many people were here! The bar was a nice place to drop in before bed and we met a few nice people there, the drinks were well made and the bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. The breakfast buffet was good - we've had better but had much worse! The pricing was very good for what we experienced and we'd definitely recommend it to others! read more

The Syracuse region has been a bit of an economic train wreck for the past 35 years..the industrial glory of this area (and a lot of the cities down the NY Thruway) basically went kaput around 1977 and has been doing a slow rot since. The brown field where Carrier built air conditioners is a reminder... Lately the city is using it's strengths with medical and education (the big university on the hill) to redevelop downtown with a pretty cool new vision of apartments and good eateries to get young people back to urban living, and it seems to be working. The Parkview is sort of the mix of this old and new...it's a 1926 hotel from the industrial heyday with some classic interior (nice lounge area with couches too). The rooms have modern amenities...but the classic tiled bathroom. Very tastefully done as well.. this is a very comfortable hotel to stay while in town. The location is really fantastic as well..can walk downtown as well three blocks from the Syracuse Stage and Phoebes (understated and oozing cool). Syracuse like a lot of these cities has ample great cultural legacies/amenities...so this hotel is obviously a lot better than sitting in some black hole out in the cluster of hotels by Carrier Circle. Besides, the Parkview has free parking...reason enough to get busy living and avoid those sterile chain hotels. read more

I really enjoyed my stay at the ParkView Hotel. I was visiting Syracuse on business, and while staying in a "boutique" hotel is always a risk, I found good reviews online and they had a significantly better rate than other places in town (including the mammoth Renaissance Hotel next door). The folks at the front desk were very helpful. The room was immaculate and enormous. It looked as though someone had taken a toothbrush to the tiles - I don't think I've seen a bathroom that clean outside my mother's house. There were some nice art deco touches in the elevator and the lounge - it was a far cry from the Comfort Inn I stayed in the week before. I'd ask for a room away from the elevators when you book, they're central and noisy. My only problem with the hotel was the location: It's sort of a dead area at night, except for a couple of restaurants. It felt a little bit sketchy walking back to the hotel with no one else around. The fitness center had only a few machines, and a few were broken - but the fact that I had control of the channels on the flat screen TV made up for it. All in all, I'd stay here again! read more

I'm currently staying here for an interview. Staff seems friendly and helpful, and the room is comfortable, clean, and large. HDTV is a nice plus, and there's a little coffee shop in the lobby that will deliver to your room. Location is another story. I've never been to Syracuse, and it looks like I'm staying in a ghost town. I'm not looking to be a tourist, so it's a good deal for the price, and very close to Syracuse and Upstate. read more

My wife and I stayed at the ParkView Hotel while in Syracuse for the SU Homecoming. I am sure we paid too much, but everything was overpriced the weekend of Oct 5th & 6th. We wanted something close to the Syracuse campus and we found this hotel thru Yelp. It was a little hard for us to find and to find the entrance to the parking lot out back, but once we did it was easy every time we returned. The hotel itself was very clean and the the room was very clean and comfortable. We had a ParkView Suite, which had a small kitchen area. The room had plenty of space, however the bathroom was a little tight with only one small shelf for my wives many hair products. One odd thing, just about everything in the bathroom was a little crooked. The toilette was on a small angle, the shelf was not straight and the shower faucets were also crooked. The bar at night was small, but full of freindly Syracuse and Clemson alumni at and in the morning, it hosted a nice buffet breakfast. But most importantly we were within walking distance to the Syracuse campus and the Carrier Dome. All in all it was a nice place to stay and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice clean room near the SU campus. read more

Stayed here this past Saturday for the Syracuse Half Marathon. From the outside this hotel is definitely not the most appealing. The parking lot entrance was really tight but parking is free and very close to the entrance. The inside of the hotel is much appealing. The The concierge checked us in quickly with no problems. Could have been a little more welcoming and ask what brought us in or asked if we had questions about the area but it's fine. We were on the 4th floor and our room overlooked the parking lot so I was able to keep an eye on my car. The room itself was actually really nice. Big room, very big comfortable bed. The starting line for the race was at the oncenter only 5 minutes from the hotel. Was able to have plenty of time to get back, shower and check out. read more

I had pretty low expectations for a hotel in the semi college town of Syracuse. Like south bend, in, the city is still around because of the school. Location wise, it seemed pretty isolated, but there were a few restaurants not too far away if you were ok walking back after dark (we were not). The room was spacious, but where the hotel really failed was in the details. 1. No shower liner=water everywhere when showering. 2. The room had a hole cut out in the ceiling for the sprinkler, which didn't even jut out. Didn't reassure me in the event of a fire in a very old building. 3. Window unit a/c units. When booking the hotel, nowhere did I see that they had only window a/c units. I hate window a/c units and would have paid twice what I paid at parkview to avoid them. They stir up tons of dust and kick my allergies into high gear. As a result, I couldn't sleep. 4. The smoking station right outside the parking lot entrance. Without fail, every time I came in or out, the housekeeping staff was smoking outside. This was very gross to walk through. 5. The overall professionalism level of the staff at parkview was pretty below par. For instance, as I went to exit the hotel, instead of opening the door, the bellhop lounged draped over the front desk (less than two steps from the door) and looked me up and down. Not only is that rude, but I was majorly offended. 6. And finally, the pillow cases didn't fit the large pillows. The thought that I could be rubbing my face on the bare pillow where someone else did the same is really gross. Overall, I will only stay there if they offer bargain basement prices in the winter. And I'm bringing my own pillow. read more

I'm currently staying at the Parkview Hotel for business and can't wait to get the hell out. I travel for business regularly and have stayed at Sheratons, Magnolias, Biltmores, and other world class hotels and am used to maybe a little confusion arising about my dog, but what's going on here is OUTRAGEOUS. The Parkview advertise themselves as a "Pet Friendly" hotel and nothing could be further from the truth. I have been nothing but harassed and insulted by the house keeping and hotel staff because of my dog, they've refused to attend to my room and to top it off the wrote me a nasty letter stating their policy about how often they need to attend to the room when it is their own staff who won't do it even after I've asked repeatedly. The place is hardly a step up from a roadside Motel 6(which I've actually had better service at) with NOTHING in the near proximity as far as food, drinks, or markets are concerned. I would STRONGLY suggest to stay away from this place and that you send the same warning to anyone you know coming into the area. read more

Stayed here for the Sweet Sixteen being held at the carrier dome. Had two room for my family and we were all very pleased with the hotel. The staff is excellent, the hotel is very clean, and the rooms are very comfortable and spacious. The location is perfect. Close to campus, the carrier dome, and downtown Syracuse which has the best restaurants in town. I would recommend this hotel very highly to anyone spending time in Syracuse. read more

Got a great deal on a studio room through Expedia for our trip through New York. Large, spacious room with a comfy, King bed. Shutters on the windows are a nice departure from the typical heavy curtains and the rest of the hotel has a nice boutique feel. Breakfast isn't anything to write home about, but there were bagels, scrambled eggs, sausage, and fruit. Plus, it's hard to beat complimentary! read more

I stayed for a week, due to relative in hospital I found it clean and pleasant, and nicely decorated. HOWEVER, I almost fell in the front door to register, with my two bags, and it being so late when I arrived. NO BELLHOP, and you must walk up a short flight of steps to get to the elevator bank. Desk clerk would not help me at all I am a senior, and had to make two trips to get the bags up...she did not make any effort to help in any way. The overnight clerk, Jennifer, is so nice, each night when I returned to the hotel after the hospital, she was so sweet and friendly, and being alone, I appreciated that. Also, Kayla, a desk clerk was very nice too, during the day. The shuttle driver, CHRIS, is a darling, and Bill, the handyman was very helpful when my door was broken...I wish the bar had been open more, opens around four pm, and closes at ten pm... so I could not enjoy a cocktail. The bar would be a great place to unwind, they are losing $$$, OPEN THE BAR...LONGER HOURS, there were many people who had to go down the block to another hotel to have a drink, when they returned from a wedding. PLEASE get someone to help with the bags! It is important. Otherwise, it was a nice quiet , pretty hotel, and the rooms are NICE! read more

My daughter and I recently stayed at the hotel while visiting Syracuse University. The hotel is very retro, and very charming. Loved the shutters in the rooms and the adorable renovated bathroom. The bed was comfortable. Their is plenty of parking in the back of the hotel. It's also right off the highway, and minutes to the University. We got a good deal on priceline and it was a nice change of pace from the typical large chain hotels. read more

Stayed for two nights for graduation weekend and had two rooms. The rate was very high but all of the hotels charge triple for graduation weekend so this practice isn't uncommon. The breakfast was free and was adequate. Jennifer worked in the dining room and overheard my mother in law mention that there wasn't an extra chair in her room as there was in my room. Jennifer brought a chair to her room without us asking. The rooms were nice. I'm glad that we stayed here because of the proximity to campus it made the whole weekend easier. read more

Very nice boutique hotel not far from downtown Syracuse. It is right down the street from the Crowne Plaza. I had read many reviews so I knew I would be satisfied. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Was impressed with the two headed shower. The staff was very helpful and nice. There is a small buffet in the morning which has definitely enough to fill you up. As others have said don't judge the inside by what the outside looks like. Not bad at all! read more

My review is in line with the other ones made. This place is pretty cute. The rooms are really nice, spacious and clean. Our bathroom was super luxurious. Loved it. I also love the free breakfast, free wifi and printer access in the lobby. The fitness center was down in the basement and did not offer any weights, but it had 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals and 2 bikes. Not too shabby for a hotel. My recommendation is to stay here. We walked to Dinosaur BBQ from the hotel around 7 pm and decided that the area was a little sketch to be walking back. Once we finished our meal at Dinosaur, we called a cab and it arrived 10 minutes later. No big deal. read more

We loved this place! It was nicely decorated, light, clean, quiet, and the staff was great. The free breakfast had good spinach quiche with ham, and eggs & sausage, but this wasn't vegetarian-friendly. There was a nice lobby with a comfortable lounge area and many snacks/items that could be purchased. Great location--was in walking distance of everything and had convenient parking in the rear. There are inconveniences to this hotel (it's old, the elevator breaks down and is slow when it works, the ice machine is in the basement), but it's got character. If you're looking for convenience, stay at the Crown Plaza next door, but if you like a little character, stay at the Parkview. It's nice. Free internet. read more

My husband and I arrived in Syracuse, NY yesterday and at the last minute realized that we wanted to find a nice/affordable hotel for a one-night stay. We booked a King room for $129/night through Orbitz.com, which was EXTREMELY AFFORDABLE for the high-quality accommodations. The room was clean, modern, and spacious. The staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful. Plus, the location is great--a 5-minute drive from downtown. I would absolutely stay at the Parkview Hotel again. read more

Stayed for 1 night. Front desk employee was very nice and pleasant. Room is nice and cozy. Felt more like a room in an actual house than a hotel. Room was very clean. Free hot breakfast with eggs, bacon, biscuit and gravy, bacon, cereal always a plus.There is a vegan cafe right next door. Only reason I give it a 4 star instead 5 is their gym and shuttle. Gym is kind if crappy with 2 treadmills, a bike, 2 ellipticals, no weights. I was there when it was snowing and the shuttle took a long time. I had to wait 30min in the morning to get to suny upstate hospital 1mi down the road. Overall, I would recommend and come back if I was in the area again. read more
