I just had a very disturbing experience at the Tattered Tartan on Main St. in Andrews…read more I am a 69 year old woman, and after hiking all day, I stopped in for a drink and a bite to eat at the Tattered Tartan around 6:30 pm on Friday evening, Sept. 4, 2026. I have patronized this pub for years now, whenever I come to Andrews to visit my family, but this was the first time I'd been there on my own. I sat at the far right end of the bar, by myself. The man tending the bar and waiting on me was slender & medium height. He had a beard with considerable grey in it and was wearing some kind of a cap, so I don't remember any hair. When I described him later to my family, after telling them what he did to me, they were sure he was the owner. I drank a pint of Smithwicks and had the spinach-artichoke dip,, I sat very quietly, minding my own business and catching up on my phone. At one point, that man asked if I wanted another pint, but I told him I was driving, and asked for a water instead. When he brought me the bill, I thought it looked rather high. I saw that he had added a pint of Guinness at the very bottom. I got his attention and told him, 'You added a Guinness to this.' He said nothing - threw that bill away and quickly printed out another one. When I checked the new bill, it was the same total because he had added another Smithwicks to it. I flagged him down again and handed the bill back to him. 'I only had 1 Smithwicks,' I said, emphasizing the '1'. He suddenly got very angry at me! He never said 'Sorry' or 'My bad' or anything even remotely apologetic. Instead he said, 'Don't raise your voice at me!' and became very threatening, like I was getting out of line and he would have to discipline me or something! He wasn't sorry at all for overcharging me. He was angry that he got caught and annoyed with me for not rolling over and playing along. I got the very distinct impression that he overcharges people all the time and they're usually too old or too drunk to even notice. Again, I am a 69 year old woman, dining on my own, and after trying to overcharge me TWICE, he never apologized once and instead, got all angry and offended at me for refusing to be overcharged. I don't want to see this happen to anyone else, especially elderly people or ladies dining alone. Overcharge me once, we can call it a mistake. Overcharge me twice, and then get angry and blame me without even apologizing, like I'm doing something wrong? He's just gotten way too comfortable with overcharging people who don't/can't bother to check his math. People who regularly patronize the small businesses in Andrews deserve much better. I strongly recommend you spend you hard-earned money elsewhere.

Tonight was our final attempt at giving Pings another chance, and unfortunately it was even worse than the last time. We called more than 24 hours in advance to let them know we'd be bringing a large party. During that phone call they were so appreciative, would be sure to let the staff know, and would be sure to have a table set up for us outside. Once we arrived today, that completely changed and were told "it doesn't matter what you were told" and were completely dismissed by the manager. The manger actually said, you can wait, or leave. We decided to wait, even though we were already treated horribly just trying to check in. After waiting over 30 minutes to be seated, we were then told they didn't care that we were a party of 12 -- we were not allowed to move the outside tables together so we could sit as a group. This was after our previous visit, where we waited over an hour just to be seated, and then another hour for mediocre food. We genuinely hoped things would improve after they reopened, but the service and food are somehow worse than before. Save your time and your money. There are too many great local restaurants that actually value their customers.
