Veggie pasty

Best pasty I've had! Handmade and fresh. If you're in Iron River stop here. My wife had the regular pasty. Mine was the pizza pasty.

Pasties were apparently invented by the Cornish as a handy meal-to-go for miners. Consequently, these magnificent little hand pies that exist all over the world wherever in there is (or was) mining. The UP versions are basically ground beef and potato, with the traditional option for rutabega as well. Pasties really are sort of family-style, baked-at-home deals. But if you want to try one and your mom, or your grandmother don't make them, The Pasty Corner's got you covered. Not a lot of ambiance in the store. Most people get take out rather than dine in. They're solid. Worth a visit.

I finally made it to The Pasty Corner and it was a surprising experience from a pasty shop in a small town in the U.P. The shop is clean and seemingly a well-oiled, pasty-making machine. They have new flavors by the day, though of course I had to get the traditional with rutabaga. I would've liked a touch more flavor (maybe a little pepper), but the pasty held up pretty well and I'll definitely put them on my list whenever I'm around the area. As for the pasty nuggets, they're kind of like hot pockets, if that's your thing.

Pasty Corner has specialty pasties offered on certain days of the week. Tuesdays it's the Breakfast pasty (eggs, bacon and cheese inside), Pizza pasty on Wednesday - my favorite, filled with pepperoni, cheese and tomato sauce, and Vegetable pasties on Fridays. Seems the breakfast pasty sells out the quickest. You need to pre-order them to be assured of their availability on the particular day. The owner of the shop is a devout Christian so the place is closed on Sundays. And the sign in front always features a religious message for all passerby's to read.

It was Friday morning and I wanted breakfast. I read a few local reviews and came across the words "breakfast pastys" (eggs, ham, cheese, potatoes an onions) at the Pasty Corner, and was stoked. Had I read carefully, I would have known they were only available on Tuesdays. Damn. Alas, I was recommended to try the regular pasty, as a first-timer. It smells, looks and tastes like a pot pie with meat, potatoes and onions. Friday's special is a veggie pasty with broccoli, cauliflower, cheese, carrots, potatoes and onion. I'm not one for healthy foods, but I actually liked the veggie one better - the broccoli (and cheese) was so tasty. The regular was a tad bland. Most pastys are $3.50 fresh or $3.25 frozen. Small pastys (of the regular kind) are also available for $.50 less. The place is open 9-6 M-F, 9-5 on Sat. FYI - pasty is pronounced like past-ee, not pay-stee. The latter are usually not consumable. For you history buffs - the Pasty was started in Cornwall, England where coal miners took them to work - eaten like a sandwich but consisted of a meal in a crust.

This lunch was YUM! The young man @ the counter was SO wonderfully nice! He explained the pasty history to a group of Ohio grouse hunters in such a perfect manner. The pasties are AMAZING, the crust is perfection! No ketchup needed!!

I had a pasty last night! Always the same recipe, same size, and great taste. The Pasty corner pasties are my favorite!

Pizza pastys are amazing, but only available on Wednesday's. Every other kind is good too. Go early since they run out fast!

Erin's Pub 'N' Grub - Gouda burger

Checked this place out after hearing good things from a few neighbors. Came on a Monday night, but…read moreit was still moderately busy, which we felt was a good sign. Service was friendly and quick. Never waited too long for a drink or for food to come out. All in all, very pleased with the meal. Reuben was one of the best I can recall in recent years. Crispy bread, good corned beef, plenty of sauerkraut and dressing. And I found it interesting they added smoked gouda as well. Overall, excellent, excellent sandwich! One of our party members ordered the broasted chicken, which looked and smelled amazing. She said it was excellent. Great portion size and I may try that next time. Another had the bacon Gouda burger and said it was good but messy. And he wasnt the biggest fan of the garlic bread instead of a bun, but said it was still tasty. Messy, but tasty! Other than that, drinks were not bad and were comparably priced to other places in the area. We had brandy old fashioneds for the most part. Have had better but they were still good enough to have multiple! Soup of the day was beer cheese chicken chowder, which was light and flavorful and surprisingly good (I am not a beer cheese person usually but would have this again if given the chance). Fiesta poppers for the appetizer were quick to come out and a great start before entrees rolled out. No sitting and waiting around at all between courses. Overall, very good experience and we will be coming back again to try more of the menu!

Fun local vibe type bar. We were in town visiting for Christmas. Hungry after a long drive, we…read morewere able to get right in, plenty of seating at 5 but it was filling up fast. I tried the chili, it was good. The bacon ranch chicken was good, great sweet potato fries. My daughter was not a fan of the burger too greasy for her liking and did not like the bun. The service was fast and friendly
