Don't let that Sombrero fool you!
    Mike R.

Don't let the kitschy "South of the Border" tourist attraction on the offramp scare you, and drive right by looking for a huge, oversized sombrero and you've found one of the best steakhouse's around! While we were little hesitant given the surroundings and the sombrero, we're glad we persevered and ultimately enjoyed a great meal. We were seated after a 15-minute wait and were immediately greeted by our server who turned out to be attentive and informative. The salad bar was neat and organized, well stocked, and everything looked fresh and inviting. We ordered the Large Cut Filet Mignon with an additional salad that came with an additional side. The Filet was one of the best, most tender melt-in-your-mouth Filet's we had in a VERY long time! You can see from the pics I couldn't wait to dig it! I ordered steamed vegetables that were well cooked, vibrant in color and not mushy that is often the case! My wife ordered a baked potato, and it was equally as impressive. We'd each ordered a glass of wine that was good for the price point (we just couldn't bring ourselves to split a bottle of some good stuff). We finished off with some Creme Brulee' and that the only thing that left a little to be desired. It was like the 'Creme' was left out of the Creme Brulee'. It was good overall and creamy with the caramelized sugar, but it just was as rich as you'd expect for Creme Brulee'. Great experience, great meal, and we'll definitely stop again when headed through Hamer, SC!

Excellent steakhouse, I had the prime rib with the grilled asparagus. The salad bar was great too. I highly recommend!

Speechless. I can not believe I am writing this review for a restaurant at the tackiest tourist trap on the east coast. Sure, we've hit South of the Border before. You go there for the kitsch, not to eat. Thank goodness for Yelp or we would have NEVER tried this place. Ever. After all, the building is shaped like a sombrero. Really. But once you walk through the door, it's a whole different world than the tacky neon that surrounds the place. First, it's clean and dare I say tastefully decorated (which is so NOT South of the Border style). The service is fantastic - everyone there is SO nice! All of the servers work together, running food, refilling drinks, even the hostess was refilling the salad bar. Second, let's talk food. Oh my! The menu is fairly straight forward steakhouse fare. The entrees come with the salad bar, which is amazing in that there are so many fresh choices and it is constantly refilled. I went with the blue cheese dressing, my usual, and it was creamy and loaded with chunks of blue cheese. Nice. I had the prime rib which was cooked perfectly (mid-rare) and melt in your mouth delicious. Hubby had the NY strip cooked to the perfect rare. It was a beautiful piece of meat with almost no fat. We were blown away with the flavor of both dishes. Of course we had to finish the meal with creme brûlée because if it's on the menu, we have to have it! It was very flavorful, but instead of using a torch to carmelize the sugar, it seems to have been put under a broiler briefly which heated the ramekin causing the edges to start to melt. Other reviews have complained about the price, but honestly it's comparable to steakhouses at home (and we're not from a big city either). The only reason it loses a star is because the steaks are cut a little on the small side - for instance the small prime rib is about 6-7 ounces, while the large portion is 10 ounces. When passing through again, we will definitely be back! You're always a wiener at Pedro's!

Never seen a price for cash or CC like this in all my years of traveling

Very large menu but we couldn't resist the seafood! Shrimp was perfect calabash style, oysters and fish cooked just right. Servings were very big and the prices were very fair! Visit Pier 41 with confidence, it doesn't disappoint!

They have a large parking lot with numbered spots, so you don't forget where you parked. The decor is casual and unassuming. It is a large place, though. It can seat 220 guests and has both booths and tables. I dined here for brunch, but you order from the all-day menu. I read to go early to avoid a wait. Service was friendly, but the goal seemed to be to turn the tables quickly, so many customers left with to-go boxes. Well, I was on the road, so I couldn't go, so they had to wait for me to finish. I ordered the flounder with a baked potato, and it came with hush puppies. The food was really good, and I would have ordered dessert too, but I wasn't asked or even finished with my meal when the bill was dropped off. I liked my food, and the prices were reasonable. I don't like feeling rushed, though and like to enjoy my meal. Payment is taken at the front register. I paid cash because I wasn't sure whether they took credit cards, since that register was closed. By the time I got through the line and got change for the tip, people were already seated at my table. So I had to find my waitress to leave my tip. I might return again when it is less busy.

Well I must admit there is one regret...the regret that I didn't try them sooner! I've legit been missing out on bites of happiness! You walk in to a gorgeous sparking restaurant. It seems one side focuses on to go orders then there's a large sitting area for dine in. The restaurant is spotless, and so are the bathrooms! The older gentlemen that assisted our table was a complete seeetheart! Extremely personable and present...we definitely got the southern hospitality. The food! The food is spectacular! I didn't have to add anything additional to my food, which is surprising. The food is seasoned and cooked to perfection. We tried a little of everything. The hushpuppies were the best hushpuppies of my life! They're crispy on the outside yet melt in your mouth... it's not your typical cornbread hushpuppies; this stuff has FLAVOR! The fried shrimp was spectacular...I even ate the tail. The roasted sweet potatoes made me close my eyes and just hum. The jerk snapper- never had anything like it in my life, but I know I want some more! Also tried the fried snapper, oysters and and whiting- they didn't disappoint! You're not in the south if you don't have fried green tomatoes, right? We received complimentary fried green tomatoes...best I've ever had! They had sort of sauce on them that just took it to the next level. I also had to try the cake after I heard the owner's mom makes them personally. If you had the food, you understand why I had to try the dessert. I mean the chef had to get his skills from somewhere, right? Honeyyyyyy just like everything else, the taste of the cake corresponded with the rest of my experience! 10/10! Did I mention, the bathroom was also CLEAN! If you're in the area, try this place.
