After I piled in on they told me I could just go back for more. LOL

When you walk in they make you feel like family. It's like, "Mama cooked a whole lot of food, you better come hungry." Grab a plate and pile it on (and then go back for seconds). The hush puppies are better than any others I've tasted. The service is excellent.

I didn't expect much from a restaurant in Pembroke --much less a buffet. The food was hot, and decently well prepared. The bottomless buffet is good value. There are a decent variety of southern options, including a salad bar; but you best like chicken if you're looking to get your fill. The iced tea could have been stronger, and I'm not keen on eating on plastic plates on a paper advertisement placemat. Service for beverages was prompt, but the line for the buffet could have been better organized. People were coming down on the food like vultures. Otherwise, the tables are properly spaced -- good enough to be heard in a conversation; and the decor adds a small town feel. I reckon I'll stop here again.

Needed to stop somewhere for lunch after our UNCP tour and had read good things about Fuller's. Very welcoming as you drive up, definitely a place the locals go to - many servers knew customers by name. You pay at the front door - ordered two drinks and two buffets, total was $23.52. Hostess took us to our booth and brought out drinks over soon after. Our server, Miss Deb, was a wonderful lady that asked us where we were from and told us that she likes to look out for the college students who are away from home. We really loved her and got a big hug from her when we left! On to the food - very mixed bag. The good: Fried chicken Biscuits (I didn't eat any, but daughter said they were good) Hush puppies Corn bread cakes Popcorn shrimp Salad bar (chicken salad very good!) The bad: Mac and cheese - it was awful Okra The meh: Desserts - they had slices of cake, some strawberry cake, banana pudding Overall, just average food and pretty pricey if you don't eat a lot (I didn't). But, if you are really hungry, there are things to eat that are good - unfortunately, they are mostly the fried items and such.

Great food! Literally the best soul food I have had and I love that it's buffet style, so I can get as much as I want. Everything was seasoned to the T. The mashed potatoes and stew beef was so delicious! I normally don't get to eat hog mogs year around. So I loved the fact they had them as an option. Everything was delicious! Looking for down home cooking, look no further!

The greatest southern style restaurant in the area. The people are extremely nice and friendly just like they were 20 years ago when I was a student at UNCP. The food is fresh and delicious. You can eat as much as you want and the staff is quick with refills. Best place when your looking for a hearty meal.

The staff was very friendly, the service was good...I had takeout but the restaurant is a buffet inside. It clearly is a place the locals enjoy and it is an easy stop if you are on the way to the beach. All in all, my favorite was actually the hot dog. The chili was excellent and the slaw had just a touch of sweetness. The BBQ was well prepared, just not my favorite style or taste profile...a bit too much twang. I would recommend Shuler's if you are in the area and look forward to trying other items the next time I return.

The place is a large wooden building that resembles something that would have been built in the 1870's. There are a few bench's and chairs on the front porch to relax in after eating or if you need to wait for a table. They have a general store with some interesting items as well. Schuler's is a buffet style barbecue and all you can eat. Their pulled pork is their best meat. I wasn't really impressed with their ribs though. Don't get me wrong, the were pretty good but I certainly wasn't blown away. Their fried chicken is good but again not much different from most buffets in South Carolina. Their collards are nice and they do offer hash. If you're thinking corn beef hash, it's not that. It's a BBQ or liver hash and it's definitely an acquired taste. I usually put it over rice if I get it. Hash was highly popular in South Carolina for many years. It can't hurt to try it as Schuler's is actually pretty good. Not my favorite barbecue in the area but it's cool place with great people.

There is no seating inside the building, but take your meal and walk around to the back. Here you will find a truly unique picnic seating. The price point here is superb. $26 bought two trays-- chopped pork with sides of coleslaw and mac 'n cheese, a rib plate (4 bones) with sides of baked and green beans, a sausage link, and two cans of diet Pepsi. The mac 'n cheese, which is an in-house recipe, is one of the ten best that we have so far found in BBQ circles nationwide (346 stops in 35 states) . The coleslaw is neutral, making it ideal to cleanse the palate as you move between different meats. We also liked the beans, especially the green beans. The sausage link had good snap and flavor. and the in-house vinegar sauce really brought the pork to life, but our meat of choice here would be the ribs. Beautifully prepared, with a clean bite and a tasty rub and light sauce, they are simply delicious. So, we strongly recommend that you make the effort to get here ... but go early! We were eighth in line at the opening, and worried that we might miss out because, as is always the case in the universe of small town American BBQ, when it's sold out, they are done for the day.

Southern Smoke BBQ provided free food to the first 500 people, so I can imagine how much work they did to prepare the food. The pulled pork was the best North Carolina barbecue I have had so far. It was so moist, flavorful, and well-shredded. It had enough flavor that did not require additional sauce. However, their bottled vinegar sauce did add an extra oopmh, that I would still recommend adding. Their mac and cheese made with penne pasta was also very good. The pasta was a little overcooked to my taste but I still enjoyed it. It was creamy and packed with cheese. I could eat this every day. The coleslaw was good too, more on the sweeter side, but not overly sweet. Will need to stop by the restaurant next time I'm in the area!

Well today, 4 years later of saying that, we stopped. It's a small 'food truck' (but it doesn't move from this spot), and I believe the smoker in the front is where eveything is made. The smell is unmistakeable and you can take it to go or eat inside a covered area that has booths and even a pool table. They sell farm fresh eggs and other various produce, flavored honeys and bottle of bbq sauce. What we ordered.. 1/2 rack ribs - don't even know where to start with how tender, fall of the bone the ribs were, with a perfectly spicy bbq sauce 1/2 lb sliced brisket - this is their best seller and my lord, I entirely understand why 1/2 chicken - hubs loves chicken and this was like a mutant because it was gigantic and not overly smokey, but just right dipped in the rib sauce A small container of potato salad - had I known how truly delicious this was going to be, I'd definitely have gone bigger. Next time!! It was a tad sweet but balanced perfectly with relish. I have no problem traveling for quality.. this spot is about 1.5 hours away from Myrtle beach where we stay, and worth every minute of the drive. Best of all, I got to meet Mike!! He's a southern gentleman, a blast to chat with and I cant wait to go back. When we pulled in, we quickly found out that this is not your typical restaurant establishment. It is located in what seems to used to be a shed, which stirred the thought in my mind that we shouldn't be eating here. But, my dad was committed and determined to try it out, and I followed along. When I walked in, I felt that I was in the 80s (hence the lone TV in the corner playing movies via VHS tapes). You can sit wherever you would like, and are given a short menu. We both got sweet teas, which I thought had a weak flavor, but my dad liked. Our server was the waitress, food runner, cashier, hostess, and everything in between. Despite this, she did a pretty great job at keeping everyone satisfied. I ordered the flounder plate, while my dad ordered the dark meat chicken plate. All plates come with fries, coleslaw, hush puppies, and a Kings Hawaiian roll. My flounder was mostly good, although one piece had a metallic taste. I requested 1 flounder, but they gave me three! How generous. My dads chicken was better than my flounder. The hush puppies are ok in my opinion (good, but not the best), I don't like coleslaw so I didn't try any, and the fries are very greasy but are good. The customers are either travelers off of the highway or interstate or are country locals. There were good people, laughs, and vibes going on at the country corral. I do think that the food could improve a bit, but because of the value for the amount of food you get, the people, the customer service, and the experience, Roys gets a 4/5 instead of a 3/5.
