I'm on a girl's trip and we were looking to go out. We came here because it was really recommended online it seemed like. Google says this is the busiest it gets. I think it's super lame, we're all 21. It's all older ppl so they play older songs. The back played reggaeton. The music is nice, but overall the vibe is lame and we ended up leaving for OZ. Also, the back room really smells. And they use radio edit music, so it's the clean versions of the songs which is lame. read more

In a time when actual dance clubs are scarce as the trend has moved more to lounges, craft beer bars, and game halls, Pepper Lounge has been holding it down since 2002 in downtown. Even thought the bar opens at 9pm, it really doesn't get popping until after midnight (this is a 3am bar). If you get there early enough and wait the crowd out, you can possibly elude a cover charge, otherwise, it's $5-$10. The front lounge is sophisticated, with tufted banquet seating on raised platforms and corset-wearing female bartenders. As you walk toward the back, it opens to a dancefloor reminiscent of a mini-version of clubs in Miami and Las Vegas. Great sound and light system. DJs will vary, so you may get a selection of 90s hip hop and R&B, Top 40 mashups, dubstep, or a little bit of trap music. No slow dancing here--more of the bump and grind variety, as other reviewers have said, the dancefloor fills up quick and it isn't the largest. If you get too hot, there is an outdoor bar/patio area at the side of the building. The bathrooms can get nasty fast. I've encountered missing stall doors, overflooded toilets, no paper towels, etc. That is an area that they really could improve on. Hello I frequent the pepper lounge I live two blocks over I'm a homeowner and my salon is downtown St. Louis myself and my friends were at Pepper Lounge April 10 on a Sunday night sitting in VIP which we always do because the DJ always invites us up Security comes up and and ask the several people that was in VIP to leave myself and another friend stay behind and security stood there and stared at us with a disgusting look on her face s then she went over and asked the DJ to make us leave and the DJ said no they're fine they're my guest so she stood there and she got even angrier because she saw that she had bo power to get us out of VIP when she left it went down the stairs I went to the Restroom and when I returned she was standing on the top stairs as I proceeded to walk up she said you can't get back t in and I said I was just in here m you know that she said well you need a band so I said let me get the DJs attention so I can get a band from him she stepped over like no you can't come up and I said OK well let me get my friends and tell them I'm ready to go she said no again so I just stood there for a second Let me tell ya what she did she took her hand and hit me on the top of my head pushed me and while doing so she screaming leave me alone (in true white girl fashion) so as she scream stop it stop the security turns around and whisk me out the door my shoe was left behind he's shoving me with one shoe on through a crowd I had glass in my foot I was humiliated as hell then she come up front with my shoe in her hand and threw it on the ground and was like there's your shoe and started laughing as she walked off I feel like she was a racist white woman that knew she could use her job description to get that off because she know I was to high up for her to touch let me tell you something I have the money the time and the patience to fight this and bring a lawsuit to your establishment please be aware of these white women posing as security guards to do what they want to And get away with it all I am not going to let this one pass over this was one of the worst experience I've ever had and people need to know what's going on because this isn't gonna fly and she had no right to put her hand on me especially I couldn't do nothing because the security whisk me out the door not knowing what the hell was going on but I'm a tell you right now something have to be done because I have a issue with it all and she know for a fact she was wrong and she know for a fact if the playing field was even she would have no chance i had to go to urgent care because my right shoulder was bothering me because of the force the security used upon me and true enough my right rotator cuff is torn and I have to go to therapy they will see me in court for this OUTRAGE and i will also like to know the name of the security company so they continue treating people this way I feel she wanted a black man to HUMILIATE us and got extremely mad when he didn't ...I know for a fact this isn't her first time doing this and this won't be her last read more

Hands down the worst service in the city. The club was hoppin and the DJ was great, but there is no excuse for the outrageous wait times for service and the apathetic attitudes of the bar staff. A small cup of water was apparently too tall an order; not worth the time or effort of the bartenders in a club famous for its pretentiousness. If that sort of service won't bother you, just make sure you like the cluster scene before you go, because the place will be wall-to-wall with bodies. read more

The nicest decorated dance club in St Louis that attracts some of the nicest decorated people in downtown St Louis. Even the workers wear ties. I like the place for people watching for short periods of time. However, for the price, I do not like the layout. I do not like that the dance/lounge, front bar and outside patio all have the same music and all usually loud. Put up some noise cancaling speakers along the hallway and add lower key modern jazz or trance in the front room. The place feels smaller than it should. read more

Ever since SOL closed I have been in need of a new dance floor to cut up, so I was really pumped about giving Pepper Lounge a try this weekend. First things first, props to the bouncer for letting my friend in free. Cover charge is $10 for guys and $5 for girls, and I only had $13 on me after getting absolutely robbed by the beer vendors at Taste of Stl earlier in the night (I hear ya, Tim G). Anyway, he let both of us in for just the $10...very cool, considering I'm dealing with a doorman/bouncer here, and you never know what kind of guy you're getting with that crew. When I got to the first room, I was a little confused. Where was everybody? The music was loud, there were music videos on the tvs lining the wall, but there was literally NOBODY in the room but the bartenders. Yeah, two of them. In an empty room. With drank in hand, I walked a little further past the empty room into a room that was decidedly not empty. Now THIS was more like it! This room had loud music, tvs with music videos playing, bartenders, AND people. Wall to wall people. Some might dock stars for that and say it was crowded but that's exactly what I was looking for. Just enough room to bust the appropriate number of moves. And the music? All the Lil John you can shake your dreadlocks to. Plus there were some other songs. But mostly Lil John. Best part of this club? The outside area just off the dance floor. It's the absolute PERFECT break that you'll eventually need from all your spastic gyrating. There's a bar outside too, which is even perfecter...no waiting for 20 minutes in dance club purgatory at the inside bar. Good for you smokers too. And it's an amazing place to pull that certain hot individual off the dance floor and conversate for a few. read more

I really enjoy being and coming here because of the dancing and music. Mind you, if you are a woman and you can't handle a man in general, be sure to come with other men or a brood of your girlfriends who will stomp on a man real quick because the guys here can man handle you. Saturday nights are very crowded, go figure. Fridays and Sundays are the best nights! The music depends on the DJ playing but pretty much great all the time. Front bar is the best place to get your drink versus the back. Outside is a nice area to get a breather or other (nice conversation). Crowds start coming in around 12a. My friends and I think this is the only club where the staff were better looking than the crowd which is nice. I've had bottle service there 2 times and loved it. The staff are attentive and take care of you. If there is one thing I could suggest it is more air vents in the back area/bar because it can feel like a sauna back there. read more

Pleasantly surprised! Can you say pleasant about a club? Well I just did. A friend chose to end her bachelorette party here. Honestly I was dreading this part of the evening. I am too old right? I will be 30 in March. Plus I work with college students and am not a fan of running into them in the midst of them "bumping and grinding!" This is where the pleasant part came in, the crowd was mid 20's to mid 30's. Nicely dressed but I didn't experience any snobbery or pretension. And although it is packed, the music was great and we didn't get molested by smarmy guys. In fact we found most the men strangely polite. Interesting venue. Walked over from Wash Ave with a few friends upon a recommendation. Was a little sketchy walking over because if you venture too far from Wash Ave it gets a little weird. Once we arrived though the place seemed bumping until we discovered the $10 cover. Regardless we got in and it was pretty cool on the inside. Didn't order any drinks so I can't make a judgement on prices, but the music was awesome! It was a combination of current popular songs with a mix of old school songs. I'd go back again, but I'm much more likely to go to any of the multiple bars around St. Louis with no cover and live music. read more

I recently attened an event there and I can tell you that this is an upscale place...well dress up and look nice place as Nannan said. But really I think its over hyped. At the event I saw too much of the place in the daylight to know that it needs a REALLY good cleaning. (look at the lamps closely). The drinks were okay, I was drinking Pineapple & Malibus and it was more pineapple than anything. SO really the atmosphere was okay, and the people will most likely be snotty. But if thats your scene, I would go for it. But it was okay, the drinks were okay, and they REALLY need to dust. read more

I was here last night for a friend's birthday party. It was 11:40 PM on a Friday night and the place was DEAD! The only people there were in our party and somehow it still took forever to just get pass the guest list. I like the red and green motifs in the backroom and the place probably would have been Ok if there were more people, but we ended up leaving after 30-40 minutes to somewhere with a bigger crowd. All in all, since it was free to get in I have no complaints but I'm never going back there if I have to pay and there were no events. read more

Just another night downtown, walked up to the door and the ID checking peeps were hard core tonight on dress code. Lucky we know people or my guy friend would have been down the block at a local bar. Walked in to find the front lounge area fairly empty. Entered the back bar/dance area and it was similar to Mandarin. A lot of the sames faces and music, and only slightly easier to obtain a drink in less than 10 minutes. We stuck around until about 130am-145am and then decided to get out b/f the night ended. It became uncomfortably packed, that was the sign to roll out. It's always nice to pop in on a night of bar hopping, but my best experiences are table service up top near the deejay booth. read more

Music was great, DJ kept it bumpin'! I don't know if this DJ is a regular here or not, but DANG he knows how to spin. It was PACKED. Dance floor was ridic. The drinks were too strong. I realize for some peole that is not a negative, but it does make it easy for them to overserve, and WOW there were some overserved people... up in da club. When you walk in, there's a nice dark lounge area to sip on your drink, talk to your friends and get ready for the craziness behind the curtain. As you walk down the hall you have the nastiest smallest club bathrooms ever, and then you have the small club area where you're literally bumping butt to nut. The music is awesome and you just wanna dance but realize how frat-tastic this place so you just have to drink some more. Good place to dance but it's pretty dirty. The bar is terrible I went there last Wednesday and the 2 females bartenders were taking and ignoring the customers. When I told her why you don't serve me she served somebody else and let me waiting she told manager I was drunk and rude and call security. They should be trained better and take care the customers better thats why they get pay. read more

First off - I am not a club/lounge person. I usually end up getting dragged here by a friend for some Saturday/Sunday dancing excursion. A good thing about Pepper Lounge, is, even on Sundays, its still a good place to find a filled dance floor. The music REALLY varies, from pop/dance music to hip-hop, and it really depends on what you get what you go in. The drinks are priced OK, and the last time I stopped in was before the smoking ban, so the bar was smoking (eecck!). Good place to cater to a diverse crowd of people that want to dance, although when they start with the techno/electro/whatever you call it, it never seems to stop. read more

This place is great for St. Louis night life. Honestly, probably the best 3am place downtown of its kind. It is crowded, good music, and you can barely move in the place once it gets going. The downside is that it usually doesn't get going before 1am. The people who go to its sister club Mandarin in the Central West End usually migrate to Pepper after Mandarin shuts down at 1am. Drinks are a bit expensive and a little weak in my opinion, but other than that -- I have had some decent experiences. read more

GREAT bar to have the time of your life! HIGH energy, classy, upscale place with drink prices very similar to any downtown STL bar. Cocktails are FANTASTIC! If you are looking for a good martini or cocktail, this is your place! Also the lounge becomes a nightclub around 11:30/12 with a DJ and dance floor. I usually go here every weekend but I have noticed the crowds getting a little bit....nasty and aggressive. This goes for both males and females, seems like there's drink spills everywhere and sloppy people as well. The environment has changed a lot from last year. This place is not safe for women. It was full of mostly all men who feel free to put their hands wherever they please, even after asked to stop several times. Our group consisted of three ladies and each of them were hassled by very drunk guys repeatedly. Not just casual touching, but full on groping and even hands being shoved into and under their clothing. Eh. I frequent that area often but I have only gone to Pepper Lounge once. When I first walked in there were a few people at the front bar and great music playing so my friends and I ventured to back where the dancing was and MY GOD. It was packed, no one could move, no one could dance. It was miserable. It was beyond hot and the bar had maybe 3 bartenders for all of the people squeezing and yelling for drinks. There is no way this place was meant to legally hold that many people. As I waited for a bartender I was felt up the skirt at least 5 times by strangers but I couldn't pin point who because everyone was smushed. We went to this place on a Saturday night in February around 12:30am or 1am, it was really nice inside there's a front bar and lounge area and the music was bumpin but not too loud. This was the spot I preferred to stay, the back bar and dance area (I suppose that's what it was supposed to be) was seriously packed tighter than sardines, it was nuts, there were only 2 bartenders and tons of people trapped at the bar and/or waiting and waiting for a drink. Supposedly there is a patio area that in the summer creates a bit more space for movement in the back area but there was definitely none to spare this time! Because of that, me & my friends decided to go to the front bar and hang out on the totally open couch area. This was more like it for me, I was able to move about and dance freely without worrying about a tall guy walking past me spilling a drink on me like in the back bar. There was a definite vintage vibe to the place, set in an old brick building with antique lamps & deep colored couches & floors, I loved it. This place seems like one that would be able to satisfy all parties, if you're into a packed club, the back bar is where it's at. And if you're more like me, where you prefer to dance freely and be able to have a seat to go back to, the front bar is the part for you. After I escaped the back and got to the couches and open space, I had a blast...the music was great, the DJ played everything from Nicki Minaj & Madonna to the Jackson 5 and Journey. It was awesome to be able to enjoy such a mix of music. I think I will definitely need to take another trip here when it's warmer outside and the patio area is open, just to see what the place is like when there is more space available to be used. The last thing that I really liked was the fact that there were multiple uniformed police officers here to keep people in line. One of the reasons I don't like going out to these kinds of places is the lack of actual security in case something gets out of hand, which can often happen due to the amount of drinks consumed. Having the uniforms there helped me relax a bit and not worry about getting in the middle of some idiots drunken war. read more

Pepper is a pretty good place to go if you want to hear a mixture of EDM, rap, and other good dancing music. Their dance floor fills up and can get crowded. They also have two bars which is nice because the crowded dance floor can cause room at the bar to become scarce. I love that they have lots of TV's where you can watch the music videos and the front section has a quieter atmosphere where you can sit and chat if you like. Point is, there are different areas depending on your mood. Went this weekend and had a great time. Wish they would pull some strings to fix the sidewalk(s) near there though - walking in heels is treacherous because of all the cracks! read more

I was in town from Chicago visiting friends and we had gone to the Blue/Hawks game that night. I took my wife here for her birthday and we had a great time! We showed up around 11:30 and the place was nearly empty save for a few people drinking and chatting in the lounge area. Around midnight they opened the back bar/dance area. It is definitely a late bar, as the dance area didn't really get going until around 1:00. By 2:00 the place was slammed. The Pepper Lounge is a cool place. On Thursdays its a great place for a bunch of business people to hang out after work and have a drink... not much of a dance club on Thursdays. I went on a Sunday and had an awesome time. They had a whole nightclub open up in the back... Very upscale, nice mixed crowd, great music.. Very sophisticated! This place is despicable! My friend and I paid in advance to attend this club on a Friday night and they would not let us in on the grounds that we were not 21. We are in fact 21!
