My family of 6 came for dinner on Saturday evening and waited and waited to be waited on with 4 waitresses who not once even acknowledged that they saw us as they walked pass us numerous times, not a nod, not a smile not a hand wave NOTHING and same thing as we walked out they stood in the narrow hallway and never said a word ! We spent good money on great service with great food and an outstanding waitress ( Samantha ) at the Cedar House No do overs @ Pepper Mill from us. P.S. Pepper Mill do better. read more

This was a favorite of my parents for several years when camping in the Gladwin City Park,they reminisced about the sour cream raisin pie. We followed tradition when in Gladwin recently, and enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Pepper Mill. The burgers and meatloaf are fantastic. We took our pie to go, and I have to say that it was scrumptious. Highly recommend the German chocolate and the banana cream pie. I asked about the sour cream pie and whether they carried it anymore, I mentioned that it was my 88 year-old mother's favorite and I thought they had made one sugar free with the previous owners. . Anita, the pie baker came out and indicated they might have it the next day. They did indeed have a pie ready the next day and we ended up buying the whole thing. I can't emphasize enough, how pleased my parents were and how much they enjoyed the pie. But what stands out the most is Anita's kindness, going above and beyond after opening and closing the restaurant, spending time making the special pie. You just don't meet people like this often anymore. Kudos to Anita and to this restaurant for a great experience. We'll be back. If you haven't been there, you should go and try the pie. read more

What a gem of a restaurant! We are so glad to have found the Pepper Mill on our lake trip. We visited during dinner on a Wednesday evening. Service was so friendly and quick! Our waitress was so sweet and had a great personality. We ordered the coconut shrimp daily special, the fried chicken, and fried catfish. I have been dreaming about coconut shrimp with pina colada sauce for months and this one hit the spot! They also have a salad bar that was very fresh. We stopped in on Mother's Day for an early dinner. It's a cute small town diner. It was clean and had a good variety for the menu. Their yelp page said they were open until 8 but they really closed at 4. We arrived about 3:15 and did our best to order quickly so we wouldn't hold them up from getting out on time. They had a rush behind us too. Our whole table ordered salads. By the time they got to mine, I think they were running out of stuff because mine was about 1/3 less than everyone else at the table. Nonetheless, the chicken bacon ranch salad was delicious. The chicken was moist and the bacon was crispy. My husband got the Mac Daddy salad and he said it was good too. It came out fresh and the burger was still piping hot. The owner stopped by our table and chatted a bit in between cleaning up and tearing down the salad bar (which also looked good). Thanks to the kitchens timely service we were able to wrap up our meal just as they closed. We would visit again. read more

I have lived in Gladwin for 20+ years and have thoroughly enjoyed the Peppermill. Their burgers are great and they offer specials to please just about any taste. The Santa Fe salad is delish! We were passing through, found this diner. Looked like your normal small town diner, was dirty, booth seats need to be updated, so you don't sink into them. We had an older woman server, was not very nice, only checked on us 2 times. The reuben sandwich was awful, very little meat on it and that was so tough could not bite it, could not even cut it with a knife. Biscuits & gravy was ice cold and looked like clam chowder instead of sausage gravy. The chicken strips were the frozen kind, it looked more like fish. I would not recommend this place. I understand the people that live in this small town, think it is a wonderful place, because it is one of a handful of places to eat there. Great sandwiches--try the Ruben or the Rachel. But the pies-----oh my, they are absolutely wonderful. Crust that is even better than your grandma used to make! Tender and super flaky.
