Tiny diced potatoes combined with mushy meat was not what I was expecting. Two large pieces of sour dough toast were good. Ordered 1 egg over easy and it was very undercooked, but I used the toast to sop up the egg yolk. Large portions. Lots of classic breakfast menu items at an affordable price. Probably the best place to get food in Midland overall. I actually called to make sure their sausage gravy isn't out of a can. And they definitely got it right. I rarely post negative reviews, so believe that I'm trying to be fair. The staff was fine, but the chicken wrap I ordered was disgusting. It was literally dripping with some liquid the chicken was in, and pieces of the chicken were raw. Not undercooked, raw, pink and slimy. It was so wet it fell apart. The fries tasted like old grease. I hate leaving bad reviews but don't be fooled: this was gross. The beef and barley soup was fine. read more

I came in to M's cafe for breakfast on a Sunday. The cafe had too many customers for its staff, who clearly couldn't keep up with the demand. This, however, was the Sunday before Thanksgiving, so they might not ordinarily have so much business. I ordered eggs-over-medium and they came out over-easy... twice. After sending them back for more well cooked eggs they came out just as raw and runny the second time. The food quality, overall, was pretty sub par, but their prices are cheap... so you get what you pay for! The hash browns I had were drenched in oil and the bacon was definitely low quality. Usually our order comes to us, hot, plentiful & just the way we ordered it. :-) My husband LOVES their biscuits & gravy. It's a clean little café, tucked off the street & you really have to look for it, but if you are looking for a good, hot meal to fill you up for a reasonable price....this is the place. This used to be a favorite place of mine to get breakfast. Went about a week ago and was shocked to see that none of the staff had masks on. They were running it like business as usual. I could see if maybe one person had forgotten a mask, or maybe didn't put one back on after taking a break, but NONE of the waitresses had a mask any where in sight. I sat and observed for a while before ultimately deciding to leave. I saw several patrons come in without masks and that made up my mind to leave. Very disappointing when a large portion of the patrons are senior citizens. Will not go again. read more

I want first acknowledge that I'm not from Michigan - I was visiting for a wedding. I have 2 stars because the staff was super kind and it's true, they always re-filled our coffee (though the coffee tasted bad). But the food was far less than stellar - I ordered an omelette and it was more like an egg crepe. You opened up the top layer of "egg" and inside were all the toppings, barely cooked mushrooms on top of cold cheese. The sourdough bread was great, as were the hash browns. M's is nothing fancy, but the food is well made. Most options are standard diner fare, however, the folded veggie breakfast is unique and delicious. It's like if you made an omelet with hash browns instead of eggs, stuffed with veggies, eggs, and cheese. Sometimes they ask what cheese I want, other times they've told me it comes with American, so there's a little inconsistency. Coffee is ok but cheap and they refill often. This place is a total gem. We were driving home from Mt. Pleasant after the CMU/OSU game (nice job Pokes) and based on Yelp reviews stopped in for some breakfast. I will admit to being a bit underwhelmed by the ambiance of the place, but I quickly realized that this was going to be a special meal. Our Server, Teresa, made us feel instantly welcome and actually seemed to like her job and be proud of the food she was serving. As much as anything, she made the meal memorable. Everything was delicious. Simple basic things like buttering a piece of toast from end to end, a task that many restaurants seem incapable of mastering, was taken care of. I am not sure if the sausage gravy is homemade or not, but I thought it was delicious. And whatever you do, be sure to get an order of their home fried potatoes.
