Extreme disappointment in the business The Perfect Stitch. From the moment I stopped in to drop our daughters wedding dress off in July to consign till pick up today I am thoroughly frustrated and disgusted. The person who runs this business must not want business. She was rude from start to finish. Last week I received a call asking me to pick up the dress near immediately. I explained to her my contract states Dec for pick up. She proceeded to say that the building is sold and she has to be out by the 11th. Fast forward I showed up to pick up the dress. As I was walking in there were 2 girls walking out. I went up to the lady, gave her my name although I was forced to give her a pick up time on the phone so she was expecting me. She showed me the gown and veil and said sign stating you are picking up. I signed and walked out. When I got outside the girls were still in their vehicle. Out of curiosity I asked them their experience with this person and The Perfect Stitch. These girls shared similar thoughts..she was hateful, basically talked them out of purchasing anything...like whaaaat? No wonder my daughters beautiful gown never sold. I also mentioned to these girls that I was here to pick up the wedding dress because the building is sold. They stated she never mentioned that to them. Clearly the business did not look like it was in the process of a move. Everything still on the walls, furniture and bridal gowns galore. I 100% feel taken advantage of by this shop. The first thing that was odd to me was the fact I was required to pay for alterations when I purchased the dress. Alterations ended up being more expensive than the dress itself more than doubling my overall costs. The alterations needed were a slightly shortened hem, cups removed, bustle added, and bra straps sew to dress. Despite the high price, I agreed to the cost because I am not a dress/alterations expert. After more research/comparisons, I do believe I was extremely over charged. During my first fitting, it was decided that I did not need a strap alteration anymore. Versus getting a refund, I was offered a $50ish credit. I accepted that. So the only work done that day was the bustle was marked and the hem was pinned. My appointment was no longer than 5 minutes. Two weeks before my second fitting, I made the decision to call off my wedding. Not wanting to waste their time/space, I made the drive there to pick up my dress. When I explained that I had canceled my wedding and just wanted to cancel my fitting and take my dress, Melissa told me she had not done any alterations yet and asked me to come back for my fitting and just pick it up later since she had already put "her work"(pinning the hem) into the dress. I started tearing up and told her it was hard enough to drive out here under the circumstances and could I please just take my dress. At that point, she went, brought it out, and started writing on my folder that I was agreeing to take the dress as is/unaltered (which I was) and then looked up and said "you know you're not getting any money back for the work we didn't do, right?" To which I started tearing up again, replied okay, and just signed the folder stating that I was taking the dress. As I was grabbing my dress, she made the comment, "You know what I always say. Better that it happened now and not after the wedding!" I seriously am just disgusted with how the whole thing went down. Now that I have recovered from the experience, I absolutely feel robbed and taken advantage of. I would have understood paying a fee for her brief time that she put into the dress but there's no reason that I did not receive majority of my money back for alterations that were not even started. I should have fought for myself more but when you're struggling to hold it together as is, you do what you can. While getting money back would be great I am aware that I didn't fight for myself. Went tonight looking for my wedding dress. The lady at the desk was very nice and helpful. But they only have less than 100 dresses. I am a plus size bride so there was only 2 dresses in my size. Kinda felt like a waste of time making the drive there. If you are under a size 10 you will be fine. They are also a full service bridal shop so they do alteration on any dress. You don't have to buy it there to get it altered. Trust me the lady told me a half a dozen times. read more

My goodness was I freaking out, because this dress needed lotsa alterations... a miracle quite frankly. I recently had a bridesmaid dress altered here. I called about a month and a half before the wedding. I notified the associate on the phone that I was currently pregnant and would be delivering the baby a month before the wedding. They were very accommodating with my time frame. As I needed my dresses fitted, altered and returned on basically a 2 week before the wedding time frame. The fitting went great and my dress turned out great. I'd say the major negative is price. It was insanely expensive. Maybe it was because my dress had tulle and sequins but I ended up paying double the price that my dress even cost me. If it weren't for my short timeline I would have saved myself a ton of money by just reordering my dress in a smaller size and reselling the big dress. read more

I have never written a bad review until today because it was so offensive. I had purchased a dress from the Perfect Stitch in 2019 but due to personal reasons and covid my wedding had to be moved to 2021 and I had since gained weight and was no longer able to fit in the dress. I was not wanting a refund or anything but I had reached out to see if I could consign my dress through them, since that is where I purchased it from. I set up an appointment with the owner to check out the dress to see if it is something she would be interested in consigning. I came in today with my mother for the owner to check out the dress and she informed me it is a style that isn't selling right now, which would have been perfectly fine if it was just left at that, I would have just taken ot elsewhere with no bad blood. However, she continued to point out a loose loop on the corset back of the dress that needed tacked down saying she would not have sent a dress home with that. Which she did send the dress home to me like that saying she would fix it during alterations. She also opened the dress up and pointed out dark complected foundation on the inside of the dress bodice and accused me of already using the dress. Feel free to look through my profile but I have NEVER been a dark complexion. I purchased my dress in February of 2019 and she had held the dress in her shop until January of 2020 because that was the longest time she would hold it there and I was not positive about the wedding date due to before mentioned personal reasons. She then even went to the measure of accusing me of letting someone else wear the dress, and I can promise I didn't purchase a $800 dress for someone else to wear. I am not sure why the owner was so insistent that I was lying to her when she already told me off the bat that she wasn't going to take it because the style. She sold the dress to me in that same condition she saw it in today and denied it then accused my mother and I of being liars for absolutely no reason. There are plenty of options I have for selling my dress just say no and don't belittle customers who have been using your altering services for years on different prom and wedding dresses for my sisters and I. Then after accusing us of lying to her multiple time she continued to try to get business in altering my new (larger) dress. I had my heart set on a custom dress for my wedding. The perfect stitch seem to provide quality dresses at affordable prices. Sadly, my wedding dress ended up being my biggest regret. I contact TPS about five months prior to my wedding and asked if they could make a dress for me. I sent sketches and pictures of what I wanted and was told it wouldn't be a problem. At my first consultation my measurements were taken and Melissa also offered to make me a custom corset "with the same lace material as my dress" it was going to cost $125 but she promised it would be an heirloom. My wedding dress was suppose to be around $600 after two "consultations" I finally saw an outline of the dress (cotton mock, not the real thing) and realized it wasn't the right form. In order to change it to what I originally wanted she charged me an additional $250. I paid because it was a month away from the wedding and I was still hopeful that the dress would look beautiful. Two weeks before the wedding I still hadn't even tried on the actual dress. The day before the wedding I finally got to try on the dress but there were still alterations that needed to be made. That's right--I didn't get my wedding dress until the DAY of my wedding. She also had her assistant call to complain that I had "waited too long" to pay my final $125 (even though the dress wasn't even near finished). Melissa made snide comments at my mother because she didn't start to cry when I tried on the dress (probably b/c it looked BAD and my mom was pissed). Finally, on the day of my wedding I went to get my dress. I did a final fitting w/the corset she had made...the corset was too big. She tried to pin it up so that it would fit that day but it provided NO support. It was basically as if I was braless. And the promise that it would be the same lace as my dress was not true. She used completely different material. And to top it off, the "hooks" she used were just thread so no surprise it broke before I even got to the venue and was able to wear it, it was basically useless. The dress itself looked like cheap lace, it was rough and looked horrible. I was embarrassed to wear it but had no other options. It's taken me over a year to write this because it makes me sick to my stomach to think about how horrible I looked and felt. Additionally, Melissa was very condescending and unprofessional. If I could change anything about my wedding experience it would be the dress. Truly, I would have been happier finding a dress at any other store. AND this wasn't a "you get what you pay for situation"--I spent almost $1000 on this attire and that is poor quality that I received. Maybe you need to her friend to receive good service... PLEASE if you must have a custom gown--go somewhere else! And have an airtight contract of services and a plan B. read more

I didn't have a great experience with the Perfect Stitch. It started off ok, but didn't end well for me. I went in to meet with Melissa for a dress that was initially "too small". I had gained a little weight since purchasing the dress and was worried I wouldn't lose the weight so I went in to see about getting it taken out. My first impression with Melissa was was a bit cocky and didn't have that great of an attitude. She came into the fitting room and begin trying to zip my dress and said "I can't zip this" and just had this look on her face. Clearly I knew the dress couldn't fit but she is in the bridal alterations business, she may want to be a little more sensitive towards brides. I chalked it up and just explained the situation and figured that is just her personality. Fast forward she ended up warming up a little and becoming nicer. I ended up getting the dress taken out but warned both Her and Her assistant that I plan on losing weight and if I do will they be able to take the dress in. They reassured me that it wouldnt be a problem. I went to my 2nd fitting where she had taken the dress out and noticed the seams on the side where very noticeable and looked as if the dress was taken out. I mentioned it and they reassured me it will be pressed and will look better. I came back to my final fitting 10 pounds lighter! I lost 2 inches from my waist. I'm already a small person and went from a size 6 back to my normal size 4 which is where I was when I purchased the dress a year in advance. I was very proud of myself. Her assistant Tried to convince me that the dress still fit perfect. I told her I didn't feel it fit well and that even though it was my decision to lose weight I would now like to pay to have the dress taken back in. She kept saying it fits perfectly. I advised her that I lost 2 inches and also reminded her that at my last appointment I told them I planned on losing some weight and they said it would be no problem to take it in. (Taken it out was just a precautionary thing for me). She still tried to convince me it fit perfectly and that I don't need it taken in. I requested to speak to Melissa, the seamstress. She said she was too busy. I feel the seamstress should have gotten involved at that point once she realized I wasn't happy with the fit. Melissa never came to see me at my LAST fitting. I think that should be customary for the actual seamstress to come and make sure it fits well. Long story short I ended up leaving taking their advice that the dress fit well. I got home and I still felt uneasy so I tried it on for my then Fiance. He didn't like it at all and said to take it back to have it taken in no matter what the cost. It's. Mermaid dress for heavens sake, it's supposed to be tight not loose. The next morning I called and spoke to the assistant and explained my situation about not feeling good about the fit and I would like to pay to have it taken in. Their attitudes were very rude and snippy. Melissa finally got on the phone acting high and mighty saying the dress fit perfect when I left. Lady, you didn't even come see me to see if it fit well. Even when I asked to speak to you. That is bad business. I spent about $500 with them ordering my bridal accessories, getting my daughters flower girl dress hemmed, etc. and you send me away with a poorly fitting dress? And then you don't even have the courtesy to come check with me THE CUSTOMER once I express displeasure? A blind man could see the dress didn't fit well. They finally said to bring it back to get taken in but the fact that their attitudes were so bad I didn't want to do business with them anymore. The attitudes is what frustrated me the most. They didn't deserve anymore of my business or money. Melissa, needs to have several seats and learn to listen to her customers needs and wants. She doesn't have a great attitude and honestly that's what bothered me the most. If I would have called and she was pleasant about everything vs. rude I wouldnt be so displeased. It wasn't like I was asking her to take it in for free. I was willing to pay whatever the amount for it. It was the fact that she had a snippy attitude. I don't think her work is all that great in all actuality. I wouldn't say she's the best in Indy. She thinks a little too highly of her work and its not all that. I ended up taking my dress to Yong's alterations and explained the situation and she agreed that the dress didn't fit well at all. She took my dress in for $85 bucks and had it ready within 1 day. Perfect customer service. Great attitude and showed a willingness to help. The last thing a bride needs to deal with is a cocky lady with a bad attitude since we already have enough stress our plate so I wouldn't recommend the Perfect Stitch, ain't nothing "Perfect" about them. read more

I was extremely disappointed in my dealings with The Perfect Stitch. Initially Melissa very friendly and claimed to have a world of experience so I decided after talking with different seamstresses that she would be a good fit. When I went for my "final fitting," 5 months after dropping the dress off, it hadn't been worked on at all and she had completely forgotten about it and everything we discussed. I tried to be understanding and we decided to have her get to work and I would come back soon to try it on once the alterations had been made. When I came back I was upset to find that it had been altered to be way too small, and the hem was taken up so far that you could see my feet. To take the dress in she sowed a a seam down the middle of the back of the dress as opposed to taking it on on each side near the seams. Part of the lining was bunched and sewed up into the side of the dress creating a large bulge on my left hip and the top was uneven across the bust. My dress was such a horrible mess that I had to go buy a new dress just 1 week before my wedding. They took no responsibility and were completely unwilling to even reimburse the costs for the alterations. I have seen both extremely positive reviews and ones that seem to tell a tale similar to mine. I caution you to be careful and thoughtful when making your choice on who does alterations to such an expensive gown for such a big day. I would under no circumstances recommend The Perfect Stitch based on my unfortunate experience. read more

I bought a huge Cathedral length gown from David's which I love. We have changed our venue to have an outdoor wedding, and thought I'd want a different type of gown. I've tried chiffon gowns on at every bridal salon in Indy and just didn't find one that was as stunning as the original gown I purchased. I found A Perfect Stitch and spoke to the seamstress, Melissa and she said she could shorten the trane and bustle it, as well as press it for $120! I couldn't find a dress and have it altered for that amount. My ceremony is on 10/13/12, and will leave an updated review at that time. From my phone conversation as well as meeting Melissa in person, I can tell and see from the pictures, as well as some of her own gowns on the premises, she has many years experience! After trying in 13 dresses at David's Bridal yesterday, I fell in love with the first dress I tried on at Perfect Stitch!! And, believe me, it was not due to lack of selection. Brides BEWARE! First of all let me start by saying, go elsewhere! Save yourself money, disappointment, and unnecessary stress. I brought my dress in to have alterations done; Minor things such as sleeve length and hem length. The dress was long sleeve and short. Melissa was very standoffish, distracted and in a rush from the get go. She sloppily pinned my left sleeve and asked if that length was "ok" to which I agreed yes. No measurements were taken and she was "finished" communicating with me in about 4 minutes. I proceeded to choose a sash for my dress as an added piece. I was told the entire amount of over $200 was due now, no exceptions. Against my gut feeling I paid the total due (overpriced alterations and sash) left my dress behind, and trusted that it would be fine. I went to a "final fitting" appointment a few weeks later and on the hanger it looked fine. I put my dress on and the sleeves were about 3 inches too short............the back was pulling across the shoulders as well............an after effect of disaster sleeve alteration =( All she could say was, "I did what you wanted me to do".............The designer of the dress wanted it that way and you should've left it alone. Wow. Really. I am not a seamstress but I do know the difference between 1 inch and 3 inches. They never attached the sash, per my request, because at this point I can't even wear the dress and had to order a completely different dress that I needed to wear in 2 weeks! I went to pick up my dress as is and call it a day, expecting she would at least refund the money for the unused sash and the money she charged to "attach" it. Nope, she offered the most sarcastic "I'm sorry you're not happy with what I did" and shrugged her shoulders. I didn't even ask for a refund of the alterations, but at least be a decent human and refund the services you didn't even perform! Melissa was rude and insulting. She is absolutely the most selfish and unprofessional person I've ever done business with. She was featured on 90-day fiance' and you can see the unprofessionalism for yourself in the episode. After taking my new dress to another seamstress and speaking with a few other privately owned places in the surrounding area of Indianapolis, I quickly learned that "A Perfect Stitch" has some nasty ways of doing business and that I'm not alone.............it's sad when other professionals warn you after the fact. I wish I would've done a bit more digging and research before stepping into that dreadful situation. I had an awful experience at The Perfect Stitch. My wedding dress needed minimal alterations and a bustle. I took it in to Perfect Stitch because it was so close to my house. The lady acted like she didn't have time for me and certainly uninterested in anything I had to say. I tried on the dress and she began to pick it apart and say I needed "to replace the button loops because they were so stretched out". I hadn't gained any weight between buying the dress and trying it on at the perfect stitch so I was very confused and I told her I didn't think that would look right because there would be a gap where you could see my skin between the button loops. All in all, she quoted almost $400! $250 to do the bustle alone. I ended up taking my dress to a sweet lady in Batesville who quoted me $30 for the alterations I needed done!! I couldn't believe it and had to get on here to warn other people because I felt like I was being taking advantage of. read more

Melissa was very rude. My mom asked her some questions about the alterations she was making, because my dress had (it seemed to us) fit very well off the rack and just needed to be hemmed, but Melissa insisted it needed to be taken in as well. She was very condescending when responding to my mom's questions. She also kept pressuring me to try on a veil (so that she could sell it to me), even though I had already said I didn't want one. But we still trusted that she knew what she was doing and that we were paying her for her skill at alterations, not customer service. When I came in for my final fitting, the dress was very tight. Melissa asked me point-blank if I had gained weight, and I assured her I had not (I had been weighing myself regularly leading up to the wedding because I knew weight gain or loss would cause my dress not to fit). She then asked me if I was pregnant or "on my cycle," because of course it had to be something wrong with my body, not that she had taken in the dress too much. I was extremely embarrassed but didn't feel I had any option at that point except to let her finish the alterations. The dress was so tight that it pinched the skin on my back, but we did get it on me, thank god. I don't think anyone else at the wedding noticed how tight it was, but it was so aggravating that we had paid all that money, only for her to mess up the dress and then blame it on me. She also did some alterations to the cap sleeves on my dress, which were supposed to be detachable. I was planning to wear them during the ceremony and remove them during the reception. On my wedding day, I discovered that she had sewn the sleeves into the gown, so my sister had to rip the thread out so that I could remove them for the reception. And to top things off, we also paid for her to add a bustle, which she did, but the loops holding it up ripped halfway through the reception. It was useless after that, so I ended up spending half the night holding up my train while I danced. I absolutely do not recommend this business. If the alterations had come out perfectly, I may have been able to forgive the rudeness, but as it was, it was just an all-around bad experience. read more

I live in Washington DC now, but grew up in Indianapolis and am getting married there in a few weeks. I thought it would make the most sense to get the dress altered close to the wedding date so I decided to look for a tailor in the Indy area. I found the Perfect Stitch through some searching I did on the web and thought Melissa would be a great fit to alter my dress. Since I don't live in the area, I first asked my wedding planner to go by the shop and talk with Melissa and see whether she would have time to work on the dress and could reserve my time at her shop. After my wedding planner met with her, she said that while she might do good work, Melissa was extremely rude, short, and snide in her interactions and carried herself with a superior attitude - making comments like "I've already talked to her," and "why don't you just send her in," or making one word comments like "uh-huh" as if she could care less whether she received our business or not. Even with that warning, I decided to still try and go with Melissa based on the good reviews of her tailoring that I found online - thinking that not all of us have the best social skills and maybe she was having a bad day. Yesterday, I told my mom that Melissa suggested she take the dress there when it arrives so she could steam it out. My mom called and they couldn't even find the appointment that I had made back in February (it's now May). My mom had to call several times before they found where they had written it down on hand. Then today, my mom went over to the shop to give Melissa the dress. As soon as my mom walked in, she didn't even say hello but just took the dress, hung it up, and said " I need $145 to store this dress and guarantee your spot in line - first come first serve. I already told your daughter that and my assistant told you yesterday." Honestly, I don't recall her telling me that, and I did question why someone would pay $145 fee just to store the dress there and hold a spot in line - who doesn't show up for their own alterations, especially when I'm coming from out of town and have been so adamant about taking it there?" Beyond that - and more importantly - as soon as my mother stepped into the store she was approached with the same rudeness, snideness, and an overall poor treatment that my wedding planner received. Melissa treated us like we are idiots who should be grateful to even have her working on our dress, and even made comments like "you can go somewhere else, but you'll have to bring it back here for me to fix it once they mess it up," and "anyone else will ruin this dress," and "you'll get what you pay for." My mom was so upset she passed the phone over to me at some point, and I have to say I have never been spoken to by someone as coldly as I was by this woman. As a small business owner myself - I can't imagine ever speaking to clients in this way and still remaining in business. She is condescending, rude, pushy, and falsely superior. SInce I've interacted with her, I've not heard one positive comment or congratulations or indication that she actually cares about the people whose lives she is impacting on such an important day. Ultimately - we decide to take our business elsewhere... and it wasn't about the money. I didn't want to have to spend one more minute, or make any of my loved ones spend one more minute, with someone so lacking in tact, manners, and respect for others. She might be a good tailor, but she is not professional, and is actually even hurtful. If "we get what we pay for," I'd like to pay for someone who can share the joy and levity of this special moment in my life. I do NOT recommend anyone take their services here. read more

I had a great experience on two separate occasions. I was initially seeking a wedding dress in a short period of time...and unfortunately I did not purchase one from this boutique. I purchased a David's Bridal dress where I was pressured into trying on dresses I didn't like. As well as not staying in my budget that I felt comfortable with. If I didn't require a dress so quickly; I would have preferred to purchase from PERFECT STITCH. Both ladies were very personable and didn't make me feel pressured at all. Spent ample time with me and was very involved with trying to find me the right dress. Also appreciated that I can bring the dress I bought to their shop to resale.
