Follow up on previous review. Small claims court judge is customer of Phantom Gardner but claimed he could be fair. PG claimed I had only come in after the year's warranty was over although I have pictures sent to them dated long before that. The judge decided the tree died because it was badly planted. That never came .up in court as a concern or as a possible problem . This spring the tree is clearly dead. The second tree is doing fine. PG has beautiful plants. Avoid them at all costs. read more

They offer a consultation service for $80. The consultation would include a walkthrough and a follow-up with their ideas for the yard. The consultation was on October 18, 2024. Didn't hear anything from them, so I sent an email on November 10th inquiring when we might get their ideas. 10 days later, they wrote to say they would have something to us "soon." Nothing ever arrived, so I emailed AGAIN on January 10, 2025. As of today, no response. We also asked for a bid for them to do a hardscape and bench in Bluestone, and they didn't send a bid for that either. The worst part is that I recommended them to my neighbor up the street, and she hasn't heard anything back either. We're both out $80 for someone to come over and walk around our yards. Terrible business practice. I want to make sure to spread the word so no one else falls for their consultation service offer. read more

One of my friends who has not only green thumbs but green hands and green arms has been recommending The Phantom Gardener to me for years. Tired of seeing the same types of perennial bulbs in every single big box garden center (and even Adams to some extent), I finally visited. Autumn isn't necessarily the best time to visit, as they close shop for the winter, but there were lots of discounts on shrubs and plants and in-stock items as well as beautiful mums all over the place. I particularly liked their focus on native plants and butterfly garden plants. The inside was nice too, with a little bit of everything. As far as bulbs, their selection was limited, but they did have at least one type of shade-loving perennial bulbs I had not found elsewhere. I was also looking for a shade loving houseplant, and they again had several types on sale. Upstairs they have a small bookstore and bird feeder supplies, including the type of squirrel-proof bird feeder I'd like to get if I ever want to replace my old one. SQUIRREL! They maintain an email distribution list too with monthly news and customer discounts. I can't wait to return in the spring! read more

The owner and staff have both helped me a lot finding specific plants I knew I wanted and learning others that would complement my choices. They were especially helpful in my stressful moments of pre-holiday shopping. On top of all this we shared a beautiful sunset together. Look, I understand we are all out of sorts right now, and that's why people who go out need to practice social distancing and wear a mask inside, and people who open their stores need put a structure in place to protect them and their customers. I am SO a fan of that. What I am not a fan of is people who open stores, put guidelines in place and yet are still so panicky that it freaks out customers (who are wearing masks, and who also are doing anything they can not to get sick), and who are so fearful and frenzied that they don't want to provide merchandise guidance because they can't wait for you (even if masked and six feet away) to get the heck out of there. This is what happened to me at this place, making me question whether we are, indeed, all in it together. First, there was a sign on the door that said no browsing. Totally get it. When I had reached my 20th minute waiting for my stuff outside in the parking lot, I tried phoning them, and I tried another two times with no answer. When a half hour hit, I finally stuck my shoe in the door to ask if my order was coming (note - not browsing) and some frenzied, gesticulating woman behind the counter screamed, "OUT, OUT, OUT, OUT!!!", waving her hands like a referee on speed. So I went out and waited, and it finally did come. When I got home, I realized I had been sold about 20x more than I needed, even though I had described the size of my lawn and that I only needed to patch it up (I have never done this before). But guess who must not have been listening, or was listening but only cared about shortening the encounter - the slightly less panicked (at least visibly) guy who works there, maybe owns the place. This morning I called them to see if they could take the extra unopened items back, and his immediate response was, "First of all we only give credits, secondly we're not accepting returned merchandise right now." I thought the latter was interesting given he and he his two workers who had brought the stuff to my car had put their hands all over it, so I guess it's ok for me to trust that they don't have the virus, but not vice versa. Anyhow, when I discussed all this with him on the phone this morning, he too yelled at me and said I should have obeyed the sign that said no browsing (again, I had stuck my toe in after trying to call three times, to find out where my stuff was). Hence, I am writing this review. Here's the moral of the story - if you are going to open, the mantra really should be "we are all in it together", right? Not some panicked, bitter and resentful version of being open. Please do us a favor and close if you are going to treat people this way. There are plenty of stores that are doing it right. read more

Stopped by with a ridiculous mid-winter balled tree emergency (don't ask). One of the owners gave me a number of options and pointed me in the direction of the most economical solution. One of the worker dudes who had just clocked out lent a cheerful hand in digging out the tree I selected anyway. They loaded my car and I was on my way. Friendly, informative, and professional. I look forward to going back when I have more season gardening needs. read more

This is the best place EVER! Found the most beautiful small trees perfect for my home. The staff so SO helpful and overwhelmingly nice. I stayed for at least 45 minutes chatting about what maybe good for my New York City apartment. The women in the herb section took me around to all the different flowering herbs and gave great advice. Then a women at the cash rep showed me some seeds I may like talking with such a beautiful voice it enriched my experience. Really cool find, I'll be coming by every time I'm in the area for sure! read more

Recently had a truck go through our fence and take out five over four foot hedges....went to PG to get price on replacing both fence and hedges....they told us on four different times they would be there and never showed. Guess a couple of thousands of dollars was to small of a project to care about. Must be nice! read more

I called literally 30 places up and down the hudson trying to replace some tomatillos which failed to thrive from seed. Not only did they have them when no one did, they had an excellent selection of other plants so we went on kind of a gardener spree! The staff were knowledgable and friendly. I can't say enough positive about our experience. read more
