Back in 2011 I started classes with Bernard Glincosky at The Philadelphia Acting Studio. I joined so I could build confidence in myself and to learn better tools and techniques for public speaking. After the first two weeks of class I found myself working as a background actor in one of Bernard's films, The Deadly Gamble. It was such an amazing experience being on set and watching professionals take on a different persona based on their character's motivations, that I decided that that's what I wanted to do. I was already an established fine arts painter and a musician at that time, but acting spoke to me on a very personal level. Throughout the next two years I studied monologues and character development at The Philadelphia Acting Studio. After starring in two indie films, I made the decision that I was going to move to Los Angeles and pursue acting as my career. I have now been in Los Angeles for two years and can be seen in countless television shows and commercials and even in the HBO series, Westworld as a Confederado for three episodes. None of which would have ever happened had I not found the studio and Bernard Glincosky. I remember running late to my first day of auditing his class and I just imagined that I would sit in the back of the class and keep my mouth shut while I watched the students do their thing. Instead Bernard immediately asked me if I like to come up to the front of the class and tell a story about my life, so I can get an opportunity to be in front of an audience reciting a descriptive narrative. By the end of that first class I was hooked. I made a lot of friends while studying at the studio, some of which have joined me out here in Los Angeles, while others are still making big moves around Philadelphia and New Jersey. We support each other immensely and celebrate when someone has a new play, web series, or film. The studio is not just a school, but it's a community of forward thinking creatives looking to better themselves and others through hard work, study, and constructive criticism. Two years ago an interesting idea arose in my head, I want to be an actor. As these urges to become an actor grew stronger, it was apparent that I needed to start this journey with some form of training. That is when I came upon The Philadelphia Acting Studio. At the first class I attended, I completely fell in love with acting. On that first day I was immediately inspired. Bernard Glincosky helped me realize that acting is my future, and that I truly will get there. I was also inspired by everyone else in the class. I was the youngest in the class, being only 15. I have always loved acting, yet I never thought it was ever a realistic pursuit. Fortunately, a year ago, I discovered The Philadelphia Acting Studio and have taken classes led by the founder, Bernard Glincosky, ever since. As I think back to when I first started, I am amazed at how much has transformed. I have seen an increase in my level of confidence when it comes to performing in front of a group as well as my ability to prepare for a scene or a monologue and be able to execute effectively. There is a huge focus on mindfulness in the classes and Bernard does a great job of challenging his students in a way that takes them outside of their comfort zone and really gets them to connect with both themselves and the character. When I first stepped into The Philadelphia Acting Studio, I knew very little about the craft of acting and all the work that goes into it. Bernard Glincosky, the director/owner, took a personal interest in my progress, which I came to realize he does for all his students who are serious about acting being a part of their lives. I had taken an acting class in college and knew that I wanted to pursue it further, but didn't really know how or what that even meant. Bernard acted as a teacher and guide who always had time to answer one more question about the craft, as well as the business, of acting. I was drawn into the world of acting by a desire to understand how exactly it works. We all love to see a great performance by an actor, and it is always difficult to get through watching a bad performance. What is happening? I attended Bernard Glincosky's class at The Philadelphia Acting Studio. It was my first time attending an acting class, so I didn't know what to expect, but after the first five minutes, I could tell how enthusiastic and passionate everyone in the room was about performance. Bernard fostered a very supportive environment for his students to act in; everyone was very respectful and comfortable with one another. After class, Bernard gave me the opportunity to pitch a synopsis of my short film which I was casting for at the time at Villanova University. He and his staff helped me to get the word out on Facebook. Immediately after their posting, I received dozens of emails and calls from actors eager to audition for my film. As a student filmmaker, it was initially difficult for me to reach a network of actors that weren't college aged. One time Bernard Glincosky told me one of the greatest things I have ever heard in my life, well his words were the best starting point and to this day I find them very ZEN as it is something that every actor, human being will discover and uncover.
