Tried to get ice cream today. Three young employees...2 female, one male. I verified we could still get ice cream as the lids were on the tubs; it was just after 3. Was told yes, and they disappeared to back work area. We stood, and stood. One female told the other that we were waiting and her response was "it's okay" followed by a dismissive wave. We finally just left. We were in town from Bozeman, where we reside. So difficult to find Wilcoxson's freshly scooped, and then to have this experience. Disappointed to say the least. read more

Cozy little lunch place. I'm vegetarian and was able to get a 1/4 cheese sub sandwich which I thought was quite good. They have 3 sizes - 12 inch, 6 inch or 1/2 and the 1/4 that my husband and I both ordered. My husband got an Italian sub sandwich. They were very generous with the ingredients. I had expected great things based on prior reviews. The Hubbs and I are not fond of order-at-the-counter venues. We like to sit and absorb the vibes while pondering a menu. Having to make a decision while standing in front of a large board is not our thing. Tip: pick up a paper menu and grab a table first - then go order. We decided on the mushroom steak sandwich and a cup of steak chili. Let's start with the chili. The steak was the shaved beef they use for the sandwich and the chili was both undercooked and under-seasoned. The sandwich was decent - very skimpy on the mushrooms though. I thought it was interesting that no plate or utensils were offered - the sandwich was wrapped in paper and foil. A roll of paper towels served as napkins. The help-yourself pickle bucket was interesting. The team was nice and service was good. Although I saw no evidence of table-cleaning, you have to wipe the table yourself. Placed an order for one half of a sandwich. Kid taking orders up front put in one sandwich order ahead of mine. I went and sat down so I could watch the written order progress. Five more orders placed after mine. They all got their orders ahead of mine even tho I was there 10-15 minutes before any of them. At one time there were six slips in the board. Mine kept getting put in the back. I was asked by someone that just happened to not be hanging out and chatting with their friends in the back what I ordered. After 25 minutes I went up to the kid up front asked for my money back as I had to leave. I was told they would make my meal then. Repeated attempts to get a refund went unanswered. If this review were about their sandwiches, I would easily give 4 stars, possibly 5. This review is based upon a known issue with their website ordering system. The website allows you to select Bozeman or Livingston locations. I am in Livingston so I always choose that & order for pickup. If you don't pay close attention, the website defaults you to Bozeman. We placed an order a month ago, went to pick it up & the Livingston location didn't have the order. However, we paid in advance. The only option we were given was call Bozeman, cancel that rose for a refund & order in person in Livingston. Bozeman never refunded our order. And the Livingston employees told us this happens all the time. Yesterday, I saw the website issue has still not been corrected (choose Livingston, place your order & it defaults to Bozeman still). I didn't place my order but called Livingston & ordered over the phone. In their shop waiting to pick up my order, a woman who placed a very large online order (directed to Bozeman without her knowing) was furious to find she had no food for a large party. Others in line said to never use the website, it's happened to everyone. This has been brought to their attention at least a month ago by my knowledge, if not longer. Since management doesn't seem to care about this issue, I'm giving this a 1 star. read more

This place is a treat. I can say that I was expecting a good sandwich based on the size and price of the full size sandwich. I ended up getting half of a meatball sub with chips in the middle of a snowstorm. Taste and quality of ingredients are unmatched. Generous portions. If you are looking for a decent size sandwich, this is the place to come. Parking is pretty limited since this is located on the corner of the downtown area. They are pretty busy, so if you can come before or after lunchtime is the best bet. I ordered a roast beef and turkey sandwich and asked for provolone. I guess you can't get a "custom" sandwich so they choose something on their menu that is similar to what you want and write what changes you want. I can't stand swiss cheese and thats what they put on my sandwich. We also order a plain turkey and cheese sandwich and beach comber with chips and drinks. It was around $33. A most excellent deli with homemade sub bread that is soft and delicious with great texture. I had the roast beef sandwich and it was piled high with tender, fresh roast beef, cheese and veggies. Only ordered the half - it was huge and perfect to share. The staff was super pleasant as well as the owner who takes excellent care of her employees by upholding the governors mask mandate due to COVID. Thank you for setting a great example in your community and being socially responsible! And grab one of their oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookies. Known for hoagies. I mistakenly ordered chili with steak. Neither chili nor steak. Picture marinara sauce with kidney beans. They bring your food. Ordered salad also. Came undressed. I stopped here yesterday after a long drive into town and was pleasantly suprised. The Mushroom Steak was really tasty and the staff was helpful with some local tips for us. My Wife said she wasnt hungry but soon after unwrapping this glorious sandwich made on this angelic bread she soon changed her mind and was reaching cross the table for bites... Absolutely loved The Pickle Barrel Sandwich Shop in Livingston! The staff is so kind and courteous, with that small town feel that's a lot like home. I had the Pepper Stake Hot Sandwich for lunch, which consisted of white bread, peppers, cheese, beef, and onions. I also had some Wild Sweet Orange Tazo Tea, and Maple Nut ice cream. The sandwich was massive! I suppose this is the Subway of Livingston? I ordered the half, and it felt more like a footlong. Very inexpensive, and absolutely delicious. I was very impressed. My favorite part of this meal was the Maple Nut ice cream, which was mouthwatering. And that's an understatement! I love nutty ice cream, and since they did not have my favorite flavor (i.e. butter pecan), I decided to explore, and fell madly in love. I wish there was a Pickle Barrel in Glendale! I can imagine myself eating lunch here all the time, and ice cream for dessert of course. The greatest sub sandwich ever. It has been forever since I have been to Livingston but one of the main reasons I would return is to get a sandwich at the Pickle Barrel. This was one of the first places I ate when I moved to Livingston for a summer. I don't think I truly realized how amazing it was. I probably ate at the Pickle Barrel three times a week during that summer. The bread is great; and the steak and cheese is heaven.
