Despite living in Latrobe, this was only the second time dining at The Pier. First time was many years ago when they had a more limited menu and you couldn't order anything from the "other side", namely Sharky's. At the time it did seem odd to me that they obviously were sharing the same kitchen but you weren't allowed to order from that menu. Anyway, all that's changed and there is only one menu you order from titled Sharky's. Prior to our visit, we tried to look at the menu online and their website listed coal fired pizzas. We love a good Margarita pizza and thought we might try one. But when we sat down at the table and looked at the menu presented to us, there were pizzas listed, but they weren't listed as coal fired and there was not a Margarita pizza listed. Hmmm. So we ordered salads. Which were really good. My husband had the steak salad and I had the blackened red skin salad with roasted red potatoes and I added shrimp. Our server was very nice and efficient. It was a very long lunch because we met an old friend from out of town whom we hadn't seen for 7 years. So we sat and talked for over 3 hours and it wasn't a problem. There were many open tables even though Steeler trading camp was about to start the next day. I especially enjoyed the breezy atmosphere of the restaurant with the garage doors opened all the way. It did give you the feeling of being at the beach for a mini vacation lunch. The only reason I give 4 and not 5 stars is because the website really should be updated with a correct menu. It could make a difference when people are deciding where to go. read more

I can't say enough about the great staff and food here. My son and daughter-in-law arranged to have a small family celebration for husband's and my 50th wedding anniversary. Indifferent about this place. I neither love it or hate it. Apparently, I am in the minority because the times I do opt to come here, it is usually filled with non-stop action. First off, there are several ways to get into the place so you might end up entering into a web of various activities occurring. Once you emerge from that, you need to decide if you are dining at the "pier" or the "cafe/ restaurant". The set up is very chopped up, and maze-like. Anyway, if it's a lovely day, opt for the pier side, since they have a beautiful deck, and the bar opens up to the outdoors. If you are looking to play any of the video/sports like activities, watch a game, opt for the cafe side. I still manage to confuse the dining options when checking in with the hostess. It's almost as though one might need a mini-tour of the place before committing to which side suits you. Once seating is decided, it's time for the menu selections. This is where I take a detour with my impression of the place. To me, its basic food. No real frills. No must - haves, no uniqueness to boast about. No real dissatisfaction either. However, If I can recommend anything, it is to make arrangements to be part of the pier crowd during the air show that takes place nearby. Fabulous view, and great entertainment while enjoying a cocktail or two as jets soar past overhead. No regrets with this one. read more

We came in and there was a wait, we set at the bar and lit our name in. Another couple came in after us and obviously go there often. We had been waiting at least 30 minutes. A not to friendly gentleman came and let them know he can seat them right away as we sat waiting. Nothing worse than basically being ignored. We awaited another 15 minutes before we were seated by the nit so friendly gentleman as we were finishing our drinks. We would have gone someplace else if we didn't get seated. The food was ok. The Pier is a nice location for drinks with friends. The food is so so and the view is nothing to write home about but hanging outdoors on a weekend evening (or even a weeknight treat) is hard to find in this area. read more

This was the rudest staff we have ever encountered anywhere in western Pennsylvania. After we were asked to be seated At a table near the bar, the bartender then told the waitress that we weren't allowed to be seated and we had to give up our seats. When we asked if we could sit there while we waited for the kitchen to catch up, we were told no and that the entire staff was "overwhelmed" and needed time to catch up. When we asked where the restrooms were, the hostess turned her back and walked away and then as we left, after expressing our dissatisfaction, we got a very rude "bye". read more

This place has the same menu as Sharky's but an infinitely better atmosphere. I ate at Sharkeys one night and the pier the next. Being here on business this was the convenient option as it was within walking distance from the Marriott. I consulted on the thing to get as far as food and pizza was the common option for both places. I took the bartender up on the pizza option, I was not disappointed. New York ish style pizza with really good flavor. The service was top-notch and all the waitresses and bartenders were on it. If I had one criticism it would be the lack of a competent manager to keep things running smoothly. People waited for someone to seat them and people waited at their table because no one told the waitress that they were seated. I'll go back the next time I'm in town but hopefully they have a decent house manager when I do. read more

Last night I went to The Pier for drinks, apps, and the Thursday night music. Every Thursday night during the spring-summer season a band will play from 8-10pm. The bands are usually local and include in a wide variety of musical selections. Onto the food & drinks. I had a Purple Rain drink, very sweet to the taste, and recommended by the waitress after discussing what I like. It was awesome. I also had the wood fired wings and skillet red pepper dip with "pizza chips". The food was excellent as always! The wings were full and juicy, while the dip was sizzling hot being served in a skillet. I will always recommend this restaurant - especially on Sunday's for BOGO wood fired pizza & bottomless mimosas during brunch. read more

Wow. We went here on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. Located adjacent to regular Sharky's, The Pier at Sharkeys gives you a seaside feel with the deck seating, breeze, island decor and great music. For our appetizer we ordered the giant pretzel with four dipping sauces. Very good. For my meal I ordered the lobster mac & cheese with pasta. It was out of this world. My wife ordered the crab stuffed shrimp. You can check out the pictures below! My two small children split a woodfired pizza and it was very good as well. The only downside, and this might be nitpicking, is the price. For an appetizer,three adult drinks and the three entrées, the bill came to $74. With tip, we got out just under $100. Residents of the area were excited when this place first opened. ESP for those looking for a classier place to eat. I've come here many times through the years, it's always the same. terrible customer service. We are always rushed through the meal and pushed out the door. no follow up 'would you like another beer' or 'would you like some dessert' nope...just here is your check before the dishes are even cleaned off the table. Now when you go, not only do you get rude and poor customer service but the menu has been changed due to staffing shortages which primarily means that most of the items is Sharkey's bar food. The Pier has an awesome deck, with plenty of seating in the shade or the sun which ever you preferr Drinks are made with fresh fruits, no sugary artificial stuff. Their menu is definitely not boring! Four of us met there for Sunday brunch. After we ordered it was a long wait till we got our food. We finally got one of our meals. About five minutes later they brought two more meals. One of those meals was the wrong menu item. That was sent back, then they brought the fourth meal. The correct menu item was finally brought and still wasn't as ordered. Bacon under cooked no onions and peppers in the potatoes. I work in food service. Servers, please let your customers know if there is a delay with the order. People are much more understanding if you acknowledge their wait and let them know they haven't been forgotten. This is the first time we had trouble with the service and the food is good. read more

I like to support our local restaurants vs. big chain. But this location, i only visited once. Its not welcoming to over 60's - at least that was the feel my husband and i rec'd. My mom saw a picture of the French Onion Soup and really wanted to try it. We stopped early afternoon on a Saturday. She said it was delicious and would definitely comeback and it again. I had the roast beef on jalapeño bread, it was good. Our server was attentive even though she was the only one there to handle the bar and the tables. The menu is interesting, and the patio is beautiful, and I so want to be a fan-- but the execution just doesn't pan out. One friend arrived before the rest of the group and was given water, at least. When the rest of us got there, we were asked "so do you want something to drink other than water or what?" Not the best way to make great first impression. Service got more friendly from that point on, but was always on the slow side. The menu is definitely promising. For appetizers, we shared some pork belly tacos that were excellent, and roasted red pepper dip that was quite good as well, with delicious pizza chips on the side (as well as some celery for a gluten-free friend). Entrees were a little bit iffier. The onion chive butter filets were served on hot cast iron and turned out great, but my husband's 8 oz filet was on a regular plate, and wasn't even close to hot when it arrived. Another friend and I had the lobster mac and cheese, and it was all right; the cheese was melted and the pasta hit the right texture, but the butter flavor overwhelmed the lobster and the truffle oil, and the lobster was a bit too chewy. Drinks were good-- they have a nice beer selection, and some decent wines by the glass. The raspberry dessert martini was not a hit, but the peanut butter cup dessert drink was essentially a rum milkshake and kind of awesome. Very hit-and-miss-- I'd give them another shot, perhaps for brunch with those bottomless mimosas, or maybe just for drinks and appetizers, but I'm not anxious for a return visit. read more

In a sea of chain restaurants, Sharky's is like a little oasis. We were staying in the area, and it just so happens this restaurant was right next door to our hotel, so we decided to check it out. We were so glad we did. I would describe their food as upgraded American. They had waygu burgers and lobster mac and cheese. The prices, at least compared to my neck of the woods, were very reasonable. They even served more sophisticated beverages, although they could have executed a bit better. The real attraction here seems to be the open air appeal and deck. The outdoor seating area is nice, but you are looking at a parking lot and a busy road with strip malls - not exactly pretty. Never the less, the food and service was good, and it seemed to be a popular pick with locals. read more

It amazes me how some chefs can't even master a basic cheeseburger. After looking at all the extravagant burgers, I asked if they just had a plain cheeseburger. What I got was an overdone dried out unseasoned piece of ground beef. Instead of a roll it came between two 3/4" thick slices of sourdough bread that were soaked with butter. Along with it were about a cupful of bland boiled diced redskin potatoes. They have no draft beer either. $15.00 for the burger and $5.50 for a bottle of beer. This place is definitely more upscale than sharkys. The food here is phenomenal, my only complaint is that I wish there was more on my plate when I went here. The portions are not your average restaurant sized portions (too big). They are closer to normal proportion sizes.
