To start, this restaurant leans more toward fusion than authentic Vietnamese cuisine. That's not necessarily an issue, but the food and service did not justify the high menu prices. We saw the menu prior to dining, so the cost wasn't a surprise however, spending around $200 for a party of four set certain expectations, especially for something as simple as pho. Our experience started off great. The Vietnamese coffee and the Miso Bloody Mary were outstanding. Unfortunately, the food that followed didn't match that initial impression. The Hu Tieu was solid, but the pho arrived at about room temperature and really salty. The meat was also tucked under the oxtail and still raw and cold (as shown in the photo). The Banh Mi was decent, but the $14 side of pho barely two spoonfuls was also served lukewarm. Service was another disappointment. With the menu prices and an added 6% "kitchen service charge," we expected timely service and properly prepared entrees. Instead, the pace was extremely slow and not ideal for groups. For our party of four, the first two entrees took over 30 minutes to arrive, and the last two followed about 10 minutes later. When Shaun brought my pho, his thumb was in the bowl. He did not acknowledged it and carried on as if it weren't an issue. Bottom line his thumb was in my soup and he chose to serve anyways. Overall, while the drinks were great, the food quality and service did not meet the standards suggested by the price point. First visit to the new locale. Beautiful, brighter but smaller space. Parking is certainly a lot easier here than Chinatown and the air "sweeter." Despite the short time open this place runs like a fine machine with professional seasoned staff. We loved the Shaking Beef and always get the soft serve, ice cream swirl! Everything was amazing here. We came for the earliest dinner reservation right when they opened and it was our first time at the new location. The service was great and the food was so good. We got a bunch of appetizers and shared everything. I believe the menu rotates, but I would recommend the ahi toast, hamachi crudo, and LFC. I love the pho French dip, but that is only on the lunch menu. We went for our first date night as new parents, but we enjoyed seeing a lot of families with little ones! This restaurant seems like it could accommodate all types of folks, from young families, to young couples, to business dinners or nights out with friends. Dined in at 7 pm on a Saturday for a party of two. Made my reservation over a month in advance as it seems hard to get reservations closer to your date. Also celebrated my sisters birthday and noted it on my reservation. Atmosphere was lively and seating was a little tight. Sat at the bar and service we received was phenomenal. Our bartender was great to give recommendations, quick to comment on what he thought would be great suggestions and made sure our waters were always full. Super attentive, and a great experience. I would sit at the bar again, because it does give a little more privacy as opposed to sitting on the major tables where you're close to the next party sitting closest to you. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee with their home-brewed recipe was delicious as always, and the Le Chicken Wings are always flavorful and on-point. The desserts were great as well. The Lilikoi Crunch was a little too Lilikoi for my liking but I did enjoy the texture of the crunch along with the mousse. The Sorbet swirl of laughing cow and apricot was delicious. Finally made it to Pig & the Lady's new Waialae location! I've been a fan of their Pho French Dip ever since the old Chinatown spot and at the KCC Farmers Market, so I was excited to see it still on the menu. One thing I love is the option to add a mini pho on the side. The brisket is incredibly tender, the broth is rich and flavorful, and the sandwich itself is packed with flavor. It's definitely a satisfying meal. The restaurant is clean, bright, and welcoming, with outdoor seating available as well. It gets very busy, though, so I'd recommend making a reservation whether you're coming for lunch or dinner. Service was fine but not particularly memorable, likely because the restaurant was packed during my visit. My only hesitation is the price. The sandwich is $23, and adding the mini pho brings the total to around $30 before tax and tip. While it's a delicious soup-and-sandwich combo, I'm not sure it's something I'd consider a great value for lunch on a regular basis. Secured a reservation months before my trip. Decided to check this place out of posts and recommendations. Now, my reviews are based on flavour and some of it is preferential with an open mind . The chicken wings were okay. Yes, it was crunchy but I've had other ones that were glazed better with the sauce and the wings here are on the bigger side compared to other places but it wasn't really moist. The sauce was teetering on the sour side. The Banh Xeo was okay too but the lettuce was small and the pickled vegetables again, was more sour. The pupus were actually good with the oyster being the best option for me And the Pho 75 again, was more on the sour note and a bit salty side for the broth. I was very eager to try The Pig and The Lady on our recent vacation in Hawai'i. It's always interesting to see how chefs put their own creative spin on Vietnamese cuisine. More often than not, I end up disappointed, but here, I was pleasantly surprised.  I tried to make a reservation on OpenTable a little more than a week before our intended date and time, but the app did not show any vacancies. I called the restaurant to ask if we could walk in. They asked me when I wanted to come, and I said March 20th at 8:30pm. "I can make the reservation for you," said the hostess. Oh. Lol. That's nice (but also kinda weird). A prime example of "closed mouths don't get fed." Always ask, people! We were seated promptly at our reservation time. Not sooner, not later. They were very busy so we weren't able to sit sooner even though we arrived early. The inside of the restaurant felt modern and trendy while remaining casual. According to our receipt, our server was Monique. She was very nice, helped us navigate through the menu, and made excellent recommendations. We almost passed on the venison tartare, but at Monique's insistence, we got it. We're so glad we did because it was the best thing we had. The tartare on its own was already delicious. The pears added a light floral sweetness and the rau ram on top gave a nice peppery bite. When paired with the grilled cheese, it was so rich and flavorful. Texturally, it almost felt like pate. This dish was different, but creative and highlighted Vietnamese flavors and ingredients in such a delightful way. My cocktail for the night was the "Ooh, Ah, Oh Wow," which I assume are the remarks they intended me to have when I tasted it. What drew me to this drink was the "fish sauce" in the ingredients list. "Wow," I remarked. Can't get any more Vietnamese than that. So of course, I had to try it. Luckily, the fish sauce ended up being very subtle. The base of this drink was tequila and the leading flavor was tamarind. I assume the fish sauce helped to tone down the sweetness and add a bit of a savory, umami element. To be frank, I thought it was going to be gross, but I actually really enjoyed this cocktail. For our mains, we shared the ga roti, wagyushu frites, and spinach tagliatelle. Out of everything we ordered, I was most excited for the ga roti because I had this dish very often as a child. The meat was very tender and the sauce was just right. However, I was expecting a crispy skin, so when the skin wasn't crispy, I was a little disappointed. The steak and pasta were good. The steak was cooked perfectly, and I liked the sauce. The pasta was yummy. The browned butter with fried herb leaves on top felt very classic and the egg pop moment was perfect. Unfortunately, we didn't have time for dessert as it was getting close to 10pm, and we needed to get our car out of the garage before it closed. I did think that things took quite a bit of time to come out, but I wasn't too mad because everything that came out of the kitchen was delicious.  I had a great time at The Pig and The Lady. I was a little anxious coming in because growing up in California, I've had my fair share of butchered Vietnamese fusion cuisine. But this menu felt like it was created by someone who knows and loves Vietnamese food. I was an average Viet food enjoyer until this place came along. WOW ! Their food was brinming with flavor and made me rethink the way I see Vietnamese food. We got the chicken wings (oh my gosh it was delicious). Not what I was expecting, it's four of these huge wings. But, the flavor was amazing and I loved the sauce. The shaken beef was very flavorful as well, just not my cup of tea. So good though! The french dip tasted great too and the pho actually blew my mind. We really enjoyed both dishes at The Pig & The Lady. The chicken wings were crispy on the outside, juicy inside and packed with bold, well-balanced seasoning that made them super addictive without feeling too heavy. Definitely one of those plates that disappears quickly once it hits the table. The Hainan chicken rice was comforting and well-executed soft, tender chicken with fragrant rice and a clean, flavorful broth on the side. It felt like a dish that brings you warmth and familiarity, especially perfect for lunch. That's why it's so missed when it's not on the menu anymore. We love how the restaurant keeps things creative with new seasonal dishes for brunch, lunch, and dinner but honestly, the Hainan chicken rice is one of those classics that people keep coming back for. Starting off with; I Miss Pig & The Lady Chinatown location. The menu, serving sizes changed at the new location. I recognized some of the staff (love to see familiar faces) and the service is always on point. Since there were no lettuce wraps, we ordered Pho with Oxtail, Pho French Dip (always delicious) along with a couple of other dishes. This time the food was just ok. Took maybe a bite or two each and stopped. Visually, the food was gorgeous- just cannot put a finger on the taste. Will this be a must go to spot in the future - more to come. Husband was able to snag reservations a week before out trip and we were excited from all the videos we have seen about this place. We were surprised how busy the restaurant was for a Wednesday night. Our waitress was really nice but service was really slow. Even asking and getting the check took about 15 minutes. Hokkaido scallop crudo (1/5) I personally did not like the earthiness of the sauce and the strange texture of the oranges with the peels in contrast to the tender sweetness of the scallops. The scallops were fresh but the dish took away from the flavor of the scallops. Fried chicken(3.5/5) chicken was crunchy and was not too dry. The money sauce was aromatic, acidic and nutty. Decent chicken wings. Nori butter oysters (4/5) oysters were plump and the nori butter was delicious. Pho add oxtail (4/5) I wnjoyed the fresh noodles and the soup is Northern style which is lighter. Another work lunch Wednesday was scheduled at The Pig & the lady. We had reservations for 9 and got a large table at the front. Pros: 1) menu items change so there is always something new to try. Like the waialae delite bah mi. Even the menu description wasn't indicative of what was actually on the sandwich. It had kale, carrots, and what looked like Bambara groundnut. Nothing of aburage. 2) The salted lemon drink they had at their downtown location is still on their menu. 3) The sauces/herbs on their chicken wings and the grilled chicken add a punch of flavor. Cons: 1) food timing can be sporadic. Another person and I both ordered the grilled chicken and got our food 20 minutes after everyone else. We think our two plates went outside to another table and that would have lined up with the timing of our whole tables orders. 2) the front table had flies that we kept having to shoo away. When we ate there last, the table closer to the bar didn't have that problem. Being close to the door that was constantly opening when people had to check in and go out. Might suggest having the hostess somewhere outside to keep the door closed more often. I like the food I have had thus far and the changing menu is always interesting. But the timing of food is such a pain and I have heard it with others who have eaten there. It isn't too bad if you are killing time and enjoying your meal. One of my friends was in Hawaii at the same time as I, and when I called her to go to dinner, she asked where we were going to go. I had no clue. But then I remembered P&L moved to Kaimuki so why not head there! The patio was almost full! Inside was crowded too! We didn't have a reservation, and the hostess said it would be about 45 minutes. No problem. We headed across the street for a drink. And wouldn't you know it, we just got our drinks and I got a text our table was ready....LOL! We had a fantastic time celebrating our anniversary at The Pig & the Lady. It's a busy spot so I would highly recommend making reservations online. There is also garage in the same building and they do validate the parking. The food is modern Vietnamese cuisine and most items we tried were fantastic. Service was a little slow, but our server was very attentive. Overall, would highly recommend this restaurant for all visiting the island. First time here. It was busy for Easter Sunday today. There was a sizeable line waiting for the 11 a.m. opening. I think I preferred how they were at their downtown location taste wise. Sadly the kiddies did not like their bahn mi or mini phos. Three orders of spring rolls were gone so they had something to eat. Bud liked the root beer and sweetie ate a bowl of rice. This place is quite popular. It's always packed and there's always a wait. We celebrated my birthday here last week and had reservations, so we were seated right away. Check their hours if you plan to go. My birthday fell on a Monday, but they were closed, so we made reservations for Sunday the day before. We wanted to do dinner on Sunday, but they were only open for lunch. Lunch it was. Their lunch and dinner menus are different. The lunch menu is limited, but I only wanted to get Le Fried Chicken Wings $19 and Oxtail Pho $32. My husband got the Pho 75 $20. My mom got The Classic Banh Mi $20. I also got the Vietnamese Macadamia Nut Iced Coffee $7. The iced coffee was so good. Anything with condensed milk is good and I could detect the nutty flavor. I loved the fried chicken wings. It was doused with nuoc cham sauce. It's the same dipping sauce for the Vietnamese spring rolls. They only give four whole wings, but they were huge. The oxtail pho was delicious. The broth was perfect. It came with 5 pieces of oxtail and even had a few pieces of rare steak. The pho noodles were thicker than usual pho noodles. They gave me a hand written birthday card, which was a nice touch. We purchased a P&L Soft Serve Swirl (salted dulce de leche custard/ coconut black sesame sorbet) $15 and they lit a candle on the plate for me. The food was very good, but overpriced. "She gets too hungry for dinner at eight...She likes the theatre and never comes late...She never bothers with people she'd hate...That's why the lady is a tramp..." Well, I will tell you when a lady is a true lady is when she is paired with a pig as in The Pig & The Lady and I for one am truly impressed with everything I experience upon this visit to one of Honolulu's trendiest restaurants. Located on the corner of Waialae and Koko Head Avenues in an apartment building known as Civil Beat Plaza, The Pig & The Lady has built a loyal following with its inventive take on Vietnamese-American cuisine thanks to their previous location in Honolulu's Chinatown neighborhood. That location remains open for only private events, as this new location in the Kaimukī neighborhood of the city is larger, more modern, and easily accessible through the local bus system along Waialae Avenue, which is how I got there on a rather wet weekend evening for dinner. Not having any reservations and arriving at the prime dinner hour I decided to take a chance and hop off the bus from Waikiki and head to Kaimuki. Upon arrival, the host said the wait even dining solo at the bar would be at least 30 minutes, which I felt would be worth the wait. Being sat, Gabriel was both my bartender and server, and really served as a great representative of The Pig & The Lady as he not explained the menu so well, but also shared a little history of their place and move. The Pig & The Lady has a seasonal menu, and they just debuted this spring menu yesterday, so many of the items that I saw that had intrigued me in the past were no longer on the menu. Like many new visitors and long-time customers, I came for their Le Fried Chicken Wings but I found so many new menu items that Gabriel recommended that I was hard-pressed to not order everything off of their spring menu. I started with their Mokoka y Venison Tartare, which was cubed raw venison topped with fried shallots, toasted rice powder, chili, aromatic herbs, ripe pears and served with multiple slices of savory grilled cheese sandwiches. To pair with my starter, I ordered their Part of Your Day cocktail, which featured gin, strawberry-guava, peychaud's bitters and rose water, and only had the faint taste of dairy in it, and I was told I would not be around much longer. The tartare was a festive dish that contained a plethora of umami thanks to the abundance of venison combined with the sweetness of ripe pears and with the combination of the grilled cheese sandwiches, overall the dish was a major surprise. I did have my heart set on one of their lamb dishes, but the original dish that I had in mind was now off their menu, so I ordered their Grilled Lamb A Lot Skewer which were five round lamb cigars wrapped with betel leaves, stuffed with pistachio and dried cherry, and served with coconut yogurt, and topped with pickled shallot, hot honey nuoc mam and mint. This dish would be a real winner as it was so savory and filling and everything that I could have hoped for. For my main entrée, I ordered their Gá Roti which was The Pig & The Lady's "Vietnamese Rotisserie 1/2 Chicken," which was served with 5 spice tare, dino lettuce, leaf celery, rau ram, and topped with spicy calamansi and an anchovy vinaigrette, and served with a side of garlic rice. The perfect combination of flavors, I was a truly filling meal, so much so that I took much of this entrée and the Venison Tartare back to my dwelling with me. To pair with my entrée, it required a nice glass of red wine, and a glass of their 2023 La Quercia which was a Montepulciano red wine from Abruzzo, Italy was the perfect pairing. Since it was a journey to get to The Pig & The Lady so I had to sample a dessert and their Lilikoi "Crunch" which was a passion fruit curd topped with toffee streusel, salted meyer lemon chantilly and makrut lime dust was the perfect representation of the Hawaiian dining lifestyle. My total bill was $145.03, which does include a kitchen surcharge and tax, but not gratuity. The perfect meal was enjoyed just right, my trip to The Pig & The Lady was a real ohana experience and the perfect way to dine in Honolulu. Despite hearing of this restaurant all the way in Texas the reviews had me a bit concerned. It turns out that concern was for no reason at all because this restaurant is great! We stopped in with an 11:15 reservation only to find out I made it for the wrong day. The hostesses were so kind and found us a seat at the bar which turned out to be awesome. The bartender was super personable and friendly and made our meal even more enjoyable. We started with the Green Papaya Tea Salad which was amazing. Great sour notes from the papaya and sweet notes from the dates. It was refreshing and a great way to start our meal. After that we moved on to the Bun Hue Sai Gon which had super tasty noodles and meatballs in a remarkable broth. Everything about it was delicious and fresh. The new Kaimuki location is a shift from their former space. Bright, modern, and much more open with lots of natural lighting. The menu leans heavily into Vietnamese fusion. We started with the Burmese Tea Salad, which was a standout. Layers of flavor, savory, sour, spicy, and slightly bitter. A great way to wake up your palate. The Burgundy Escargot was another highlight. It's a creative fusion of a classic French dish with green curry, fried garlic, and lime zest. Not with your typical rich garlic butter, the green curry works fusing Asian flavors to a classic French dish. My favorite was the Grilled Saba Bánh Mì. Definitely not traditional, but packed with flavor. Marinated onions, cucumber, tomato, mint, jalapeño, and a smoked chili aioli that ties everything together. The smoked chili aioli adds a nice depth of flavor. Only small critique: the shrimp chips on the side were a bit thick and lacked that light, airy crunch and briny shrimp flavor you'd hope for. If you're vegan, I highly recommend both of these items. I'm pescatarian, but if I could eat or cook like this every day, I'd 1000% go vegan. Everything is super flavorful. I was very excited when Pig and The Lady moved to their new Waialae location. We had dined at their downtown restaurant a few times but years ago. And we visit the Kaimuki / Waialae area often since some of our favorite spots are in the hood. But, the first few times we tried, it was an hour wait--NOT their fault. It was the weekends and we didn't have reservations. Pro tip: make reservations! I had a vacation day planned, so reserved a table for two for a Friday lunch date with the hubby. All week I anticipated slurping down a big bowl of their Vegan Pho. I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of Pho 'except' the Vegan Pho at Pig and The Lady. Seriously slurp-worthy!! I also don't consume land animals or dairy, so this soup is a perfect choice for my dietary preferences. Even if I did eat meat, I'd still choose this Pho over other soup options. It IS that YUMMY! Delicate noodles swimming in a complex and savory soup topped with an assortment of fresh veggies that brighten the bowl and help the flavors bloom. It is culinary excellence and old school comfort in a bowl, simple yet sublime. Did I mention slurp-worthy?! They rotate their menus and serve items that highlights local ingredients. I appreciate that Pig and The Lady partners with many local purveyors--small business supporting other small businesses. This makes a difference in the quality of the food and of our island living so I want to add recognition for those efforts. Speaking of a difference in quality, the service here is top-notch! From kitchen to front of the house, everyone seems passionate about the product they are putting out. Wait help are knowledgeable about their dishes and serious about their service. The new location has indoor and outdoor seating. And just like at their downtown location a great bar! I didn't day drink but the cocktails at other tables were tempting, just gives me another reason to come back! Since they update their menus so frequently, I know I'll always find something inspiring that's gastronomically indulgent. But this visit was to satisfy my craving for the ONLY Pho I eat, anywhere...hubby had a Pho that included pork patties and spring rolls. They were served on the side of the broth for a 'make your own bowl' experience, according to our waiter's explanation. And we shared the Burmese tea papaya salad. Tea salad is one of our favorites and only a couple restaurants serve this dish. The Pig and The Lady's version did not disappoint. It's hard to explain this plate of perfection, so do yourself a favor and just try it for yourself! The restaurant is gorgeous, great aesthetic that feels contemporary yet comfortable. IYKYK--sadly, they share a restroom with other tenants in the building, so the mural walls with an homage to Big Trouble in Little China is a thing of the past but a fond memory for me anyway... And I'm looking forward to more food memories at this new location which is convenient and safe and close to other locally owned shops and restaurants. It's a perfect place for Pig and The Lady to put down new roots! Whether it's your first visit or you're a fan of their food from their downtown days, you will be delighted. Da bomb! This was a 5 star meal, We made a same day reservation. We were seated promptly, water on the table in less than 2 minutes. We had delicious cocktails. The service was beyond good. Our server Anticipated our every need. Plates came and were cleared and more food appeared. The server came with extra napkins, wet-naps, a bowl for bones, water ... we didn't have to ask for anything. We had the oysters, the tuna tartar, chicken wings, the most unusual and delicious ceasar ever, swordfish and dessert. Each dish was like I have never had it before . Stupendous! I made reservations for lunch specifically for the Pho French dip. The menu is different for lunch and dinner, and the banh mi is only offered during lunch. And it is worth the trip over. They have a small, covered patio in the front. The interior is simple, with pig tchotchkes on shelves over the kitchen, and a large stylized mural of a tiger. They were fairly busy for a Wednesday afternoon, and our server was hustling, he still did a great job. My three friends and I ordered spring rolls, the pho french dip banh mi, the "shaking" beef, and the Lilikoi crunch dessert. The spring rolls were very good, as was the beef, each had great flavor. The only complaint is that for the price, there was not much beef. The sandwich and the dessert were amazing, definitely the stand outs. The brisket was perfect, not fatty, so flavorful. Don't think it's some regular wings. Dungeness crab bucatini is so deep in flavor ! The Pho 75 is Northern style Pho and I love it ! Our waitress definitely took care of us and is super friendly. Tried the pho dip bánh mì and I'm officially obsessed It's basically the best of both worlds -- a crispy, toasted baguette stuffed with tender, flavorful beef and fresh herbs, served with a rich, aromatic pho broth on the side for dipping. The space in Kaimukī, is brand new, and it shows. It's beautiful, grandma chic, and buzzing. The service is notably better. When we arrived early for our 5:30 p.m. reservation, the entrance was a nightmare. A lot of people seemed unaware that dinner isn't walk-in friendly, so it turned into a cluster at the host stand. We ended up hopping in line anyway, assuming it would take at least 30 minutes to sort out. A few important things to know: lunch and dinner have completely different menus. Also, if you order takeout during dinner service, you can access some items that aren't available on the dine-in dinner menu, which is a helpful workaround if you're craving specific favorites. Overall, we enjoyed the experience, but we still prefer the food at the original The Pig and The Lady location. The Caesar salad and fried enoki apps were intensely seasoned- to the point that they overwhelmed our palate. Then the ham-and-pancake-inspired appetizer arrived and, oddly enough, went in the opposite direction: it felt underseasoned and bland compared to the first two dishes. The balance just wasn't there for us. The Bo Kho pasta, which we've loved before, didn't hit the same. With a Thai tea, a seasonal shrub, and an egg espresso, our total came to $122 (not including a kitchen tax or tip).
