Saigon is probably my favorite Vietnamese restaurant on the island. We have been coming here for over ten years. It is family owned; I think the husband and wife team works the front. The service is consistently very friendly with a smile and efficient. The restaurant is small, but very clean and neat. They even serve this filtered water from a fancy machine; there is a poster of an ad of the machine. The food is authentic and super delicious; the pho broth is the best that I have tasted, very clean and no msg (at least I can't tell). We have tried a lot of the menu items throughout the years; our favorites are: - combination pho - rare steak and meatballs pho - oxtails soup/pho - grilled pork chop rice - crispy spring rolls - summer rolls - beef salad (my wife's favorite, she orders it every time) - roasted pork and lemon grass chicken banh mi sandwiches - roasted pork and spring roll vermicelli bowl - the special combo wrap (very tasty but you have to wrap it yourself; some may think it is fun, but I am lazy and prefer to have it made and ready to eat) The prices are very reasonable, they haven't raised the prices much even when the food cost keeps going up. I believe they have some deserts, but we have never tried any, because their portion sizes are generous and we're usually too full to think about deserts. Park is s street parking, but we usually park in the municipal lot across the street. The rate is very reasonable, a couple dollars for a couple of hours. It is credit card only; there is no parking attendant, you pay using the paid machines in the middle of the lot or at the gates. Good Vietnamese spot in Kaimuki. Wasn't busy at lunch time on a Friday. We sat ourselves and they took our order right away and we didn't converse the rest of the meal. You go up to the counter to pay but they do make sure your water is filled. It's quiet inside, not many people conversing. I got the bbq chicken vermicelli and had leftovers. I added a lot of chili oil and sriracha. It was fresh and tasted great. Chicken was cooked well. read more

We were looking for pho in the Kaimuki area and after reading reviews, decided to try someplace new. Luckily, we found parking right in front of the restaurant on Waialae Avenue. We came around 5:30 on a weekend and there were a few tables already seated. For an appetizer, we ordered summer rolls which come 2 to an order and the owner said rather than ordering 2 orders (since I wanted shrimp and my husband wanted tofu), he offered to do one order with one shrimp and one tofu. Wrapped in rice paper with fresh mint, sprouts, lettuce, and vermicelli they were delicious. The best part was their special peanut sauce, which was a generous and oh so tasty! I had a small bowl of pho with sliced steak which came with a heaping side of fresh basil, sprouts, lemon, and peppers. My husband had a tofu stir fry which was so big, he took half of it home. Both dishes were very good. While we were eating, the phone was constantly ringing with take out orders and a steady stream of people coming it to pick up their food. It was obvious they were repeat customers and chatted warmly with the staff there. By the time we left, the restaurant was filling up. Been wanting to try here for a bit and finally got a chance to! We did takeout so won't speak on service, but on a Friday evening, it was pretty busy inside. I walked in place my to go order and got it in 20 minutes. Inside is homey and cute and casual. I got the spicy lemongrass banh mi, bbq chicken banh mi, and bbq pork cold noodle salad. Each banh mi was less than $10, which i appreciate the price point! The bread was a bit hard, but maybe because it was later in the day. The lemongrass tofu was yummy but the bbq chicken and pork were both a bit dry, and I felt the cold noodle salad could have done with more veggies and herbs. Will have to try the pho next time! I don't know why I took so long to come back to Saigon's, up in Kaimuki town. I have to say that I had the most wonderful Vietnamese sandwich (banh-mi) @ Saigon's. My original plans were to meet my friend - Shirley W. @ "No Name Sandwich" on 8th Ave. up Kaimuki town, but when I got there, the sandwich shop was unexpectedly closed that day, so plan "B" was Saigon's. In reality, Saigon's should have been plan "A", because the food here is fabulous, and it's reflected of the strong following this restaurant has, as the day we came here, the restaurant was packed w/folks during the lunch hour. Upon getting seated and looking over Saigon's extensive menu, I stuck with my plan on getting a Vietnamese Sandwich & got the Spicy Chicken Lemon Grass banh-mi. On the other hand, my friend changed her plans once she looked over the menu and proceeded to nix da sandwich idea. Instead, she went with the Cold Vermicelli Cold Noodles with Grilled BBQ Tofu dish. What can I say about the grub? Although my sandwich did not taste spicy at all, I must say that the marinade for my chicken sandwich was outstanding! It was one of da BESTEST Banh-Mi's I ever had, and I ain't joking. As for my friend, she said that she really enjoyed her cold noodle dish. The restaurant was clean, service here was on point, and the prices here was pretty affordable. I've been coming here for years and can't believe I never reviewed it. This is definitely a five star restaurant for Vietnamese food. We ordered the tofu and vegetable pho and vermicelli with lemon grass chicken and spring rolls. The pho's broth is tasty and portions are very generous. I believe good broth is key to a good pho. The lemon grass chicken is delicious and spring rolls nice and crispy. Most dishes are around $14 and its worth it for the quality and quantity you get. The service here has always been excellent. First time here and it didn't disappoint. Parking can be a challenge, but there are many paid parking lots in Kaimuki. We came on a weekday a little after 12:00 and the restaurant was about half full. We seated ourselves and waited a few minutes for the server to come and bring waters and menus. When he returned, we decided on our lunch choices which were shrimp summer rolls, and shrimp papaya salad. Both were very delicious and affordable. Saigon's is the best Vietnamese restaurant on the east side of town. Their attention to detail sets them apart from other restaurants. Famous for its "Pho". You have to try their rice and rice noodle dishes. Like the Pork Chops served with Vietnamese rice or the Grilled Pork Sausage served with rice paper, bean sprouts, basil , carrots, cucumbers, and their wonderful fish sauce. This is our family's go to pho spot, the food is always delicious, hot and fresh and the service is friendly and consistent. Anytime I ask my son where he wants to eat for dinner he always says Saigons...and we see the same people coming back to dine in all the time when have dinner, so it's definitely a local staple in the Kaimuki community. We also love that they have Kangen water (alkaline water) that they use in their cooking and to serve as table water. Thank you for all the delicious dinners! After the Honolulu marathon, I was in dire need of my favorite recovery food: pho. So I looked up a Vietnamese place nearby. Saigon's met all the wickets. My food was delish! I got the large steak bowl. The portion was large enough for two meals. Perfect! What, no! I didn't eat it all in one! But it was a real effort not to. The pho here is consistently great, I've been enjoying it for the last 8 years. There is some variation in the broth, some days a bit lighter some days a bit stronger, but it is always nuanced, complex, and delicious with lighter flavor instead of an overpowering taste. Their chili pepper oil condiment is excellent! Spicy with a deep roasted flavor, and no I'm not referring to the Sriracha 'rooster sauce' -which is also available. Dip your rare steak into the 2 Sriracha sauces AND the chili pepper sauce, the combo is great! Saigon's is family run with a clean and simple dinning area, though it can get noisy when at capacity because the room is echoey. The pho at Saigon's is much better than Hale Vietnam (my old regular Pho spot- where flavor went downhill and prices went uphill). I recently was forced to eat at Hale Vietnam since Saigon's was unexpectedly closed and my family insisted on HV despite my misgivings. HV disappointed yet again with ridiculously oversalted pho broth, overpriced pho selection, and a forgetful server needed reminding of the beer we ordered. Saigon's for the win! -plus it's BYOB! Update 2026, they finally raised their prices. Still a reasonable 13.99 for a regular size, $16 for a large Pho. read more

Good quality and good taste 3. Portion size is decent 4. Unique menu. I love their lemon grass options for Bun and Rice plate 5. Large clean restaurant. Works well for large parties and accommodates strollers/wheel chairs My other favorite place is Pate in town. Got the lemongrass chicken banh mi. Lemongrass chicken was very saucy and had bell peppers sautéed with it. It was pretty sweet like a teriyaki chicken style. Asked if they could add pate to the sandwich which was $1 extra but I barely see any inside. Won't order this sandwich again cause lemongrass banh mi is better everywhere else I have tried. The service was pretty OK but the issue I have is that literally all the vegetables in my dish were old brown overly oxidized and taste horrible. Half the plate is vegetables and yet I can't eat them because they are old and soggy and brown. Probably won't be my first choice in the future. They have a clean dining room with nice size tables so you are not cramped and feel like you are sitting right next to other diners. There is usually the one gentleman working the entire place doing all the phone order as well dining room duties.
