Thought I'd write a review before they move their restaurant to the Kaimuki area. August 30, 2025, i believed is their last day serving in Chinatown. I heard they will keep this space for special events. The restaurant is quite busy and I'm glad we had reservations. Good thing I was there prior to lunch hour opening, otherwise we may lose our reservations since the person who made reservations tends to be habitual in arriving late. We dined in May, but it's been awhile since I first dined here. I preferred dining in Chinatown during lunch time than at dinner. Our waiter was really nice and helpful. I forgot his name, but I remembered that his eyeglasses that he wore was cool/funny, since the frames for each eye didn't match the other eye! lol. Funny it wasn't me who first noticed it. One was square frame and the other was a round frame! The restaurant doesn't do anything special for birthdays except may write Happy Birthday in chocolate on the dessert plate that you purchase for the birthday person. Their desserts are unique and refreshing. I think there are some rotating desserts /flavors like their seasonal menu for their main menu. I guess you can always keep coming back without being bored of the menu! I was bummed to see a previous dish posted of a pasta that I wanted to try that wasn't on the current spring seasonal menu! When we dined for brunch over the weekend, I was able to get the Hainan chicken with the crispy roast pork combo. It was very filling , tasty and satisfying. I do love ginger sauce on the cold ginger chicken but sometimes the chicken is just okay. This Hainan chicken was really good and the chicken was really moist! I thought it was the best I've tried! It was good that I wanted to takeout one last time in August before they moved! No more the 50/50 combo with the crispy roast pork on the lunch menu during the weekday. It was on the spring menu. Of course it's best to eat it in the restaurant than for take out. Bathroom is a must for me when dining out and they had only one shared bathroom for everyone! There was a guy who tried to make several attempts but wasn't successful, since there was always someone in the restroom. I'm glad the waiter told me there was a bigger separate bathroom with several stalls for men and ladies upstairs. My friend had recommended this place because of something he had seen online, and made it point to at least try it out during our vacation. She was so excited to have us there, and so ready to converse about different things, but mainly to help us with our dining choices. I ate a little lighter, and went with the Hamachi Crudo, which was absolutely fresh, physically beautiful, and exploded with an array of flavors. HIGHLY recommend!! I made sure to have this as my first stop in Hawaii after seeing so many good reviews and hype. I made the reservation 3 weeks in advance. I'm from LA and grew up eating Vietnamese food in the SGV and OC, so my expectation is pretty high. We had the Banh mi dip, pho, fried chicken wings, and a miso bloody mary. The banh mi dip is decent. I wished they added more pickled carrots and radish. The pho was okay as welI can taste the fresh ingredients in the pho and i think they added lime zest in the broth too. Our favorite was the fried chicken wings. The flavors of the miso bloody mary complements the pho really well. The place is casual and service is casual as well. The food at the Pig & The Lady was top notch, mostly. The Smashed Cucumber, the Big Eye Tataki Toast, Le Fried Chicken Wings, rice with a fried egg, and the P&L Soft Swerve Swirl were all incredible. Unfortunately, the Viet Style " Gilda" Pintxo, the Burmese Green Tea Papaya salad, and Pho 75 Dac Biet were not. The ambience was busy and lively, and you must check out the bathroom while you are there! The service, however, was awful. When I asked if the tea was caffeinated, her response was, "It's tea", as if non-caffeineted doesn't exists. They brought out a main course with the appetizers, forgot a spoon for the pho until after it was delivered, and in general, our waitress was short and unfriendly. A restaurant with this reputation and higher than average price point should have better service and more consistency in food quality. Got to dine here one last time before their move toward Kaimuki. My bf is vegetarian and it was his birthday dinner so we stuck to a vegetarian menu. I was impressed with all their flavors, as usual. A hidden gem is their side order of cabbage. Delicious and tender on a puréed egg yolk base. We sat at the counter and had a good time watching the kitchen prep appetizers and desserts. Worth the hype! Our last meal in Hawaii was at The Pig & The Lady, and it totally lived up to all the buzz. My husband had the French Dip Banh Mi and said it was one of the best beef banh mis he's ever had. He added the pho noodles for the full experience and loved the combo. It's a two star this time...but I genuinely don't think that this is their baseline. Their food and my experience have been amazing before. We came back again after a few years because it was such an amazing experience then that we wanted to have that again. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed this time. Food: Burmese Tea Green Papaya Salad: 3.4/5 The flavor of this dish is very nutty, salty, slightly bitter, and tart. Sweetness is something that I wished this dish had more of. A lot of that sweetness came from the dates, but there's only a few pieces of everything in this dish. Perhaps adding a little more sweetness to it and decreasing some of the tartness would better balance out this dish. Texture wise - amazing. I loved the different components to this dish and they worked well together. They nicely separate the items and then they will mix it for you at the table. Le Fried Chicken Wings: 4.1/5 We've gotten the chicken every time and I believe this dish is still quite good. Hasn't failed us yet. The chicken is hot and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. They have this pickle that works really nicely with the rest of the dish. Their fish sauce that comes with the dish is very flavorful and makes the dish for me. It's a thick sauce that has the perfect balance of sweetness, tartness, and umami from the fish sauce. I recommend eating this with rice, even though it may just be an appetizer. Phở 75: 4.3/5 My favorite dish here today. We've gotten this every time that we've come here and it hasn't disappointed yet either. The flavor of the broth has this very nice umami flavor. For the meat, it's super tender. The meat on the bone just kind of falls off and I really enjoyed that. Personal preference for me is the thicker cut of noodles (bánh phở tươi) and this is what they provide. These noodles were just slightly overdone for me. Not too much of a bite, but it wasn't the biggest concern. Summer Vongole Linguine: 3.0/5 One of their newer dishes that we tried. This was the last dish to come out and perhaps they were so pressed for time that this dish was haphazardly pieced together. The pasta was quite underdone and had too much of a bite for me. Clams were good. Sauce was nice. It seemed like a rich sauce, but overall, it felt light. I prefer a thicker sauce though. It seemed very watery. The tomatoes are actually quite sweet, so it gives the dish some of that flavor. Note: 1. They change their menu items from time to time. 2. Highly recommend to make reservations in advance. They allow you to do this weeks/months in advance on their website. --------- Quality: Passable Their quality seems to have decreased from the previous two times. I can't say that everything was amazing. It was passable, but I was just really hoping to get the food and experience that I was previously presented with. Price: Higher end prices This place is quite expensive. By that, I mean it costs more than your average $20 meal. To put this into perspective, the chicken wing were $19. This leans more on the high-end dining experience because the prices range from $20 to $40 depending on what you get. Our total today was $145 for 4 people. Service: Note the wait/sitting time The service really isn't the concern here. It's the wait time. Instead of a consistent flow of people eating and then leaving, it was a room of people sitting there and waiting on their food all at once. We were told that since we were "almost done with the appetizer, that the chef would only then be notified to start preparing our main dish..." Note for us next time is to let them know that we would like all of our food to come out consistently. Sitting time was well over 50 minutes. Or perhaps this was just a way to buy them more time because we were notified about 30 minutes later that the kitchen is backed up. Probably would've been better to start off with that statement because I understand how food service works. Other than that, our waiter was quite nice and checked up on us often. Ambiance: Dim lit and Good vibes here only The place is dimly lit and its quite a cozy area inside. There are a fair amount of tables, but honestly doesn't seem like enough when there's a crowd. A lot of us were just sitting there talking with our respective parties while we collectively waited for the food. Location/Parking: Negative stars This place is located within the Chinatown area. The restaurants here are typically very small because of the limited space and land in general. Parking is available at a cost. There is a parking lot close to there, but you'll have to walk a little bit and you must pay for that parking spot. The staff were very friendly and attentive firstly, the inside was clean with nice ambient lighting and beautifully decorated. We ordered drinks and they were all great. No complaints there and very unique to them. They also paired great with the food. We opted just for two appetizers instead of full meals and were glad we did. They were to die for. Both dishes! The fish melted in our mouth, bursting with flavor. Same with the lamb. Everything was seasoned fantastically and flavors all complimented each other. We had a few rounds of their specialty cocktails which were all very well done. As tourists on vacation, we ordered a wide array of things to taste: Banh Xeo, conceptually like a tasty seafood pancake that you break apart and eat with lettuce wrap. This place is always busy. Luckily they take rez so I highly recommend otherwise be prepared to wait and there's no seats inside so you'll be standing on the sidewalk in Chinatown. Go to OpenTable app or if you go to their website there's rez button. It is a Thursday at 11:30 and my first impression was not good because the hostess did not welcome us nor smile which is why the lost star, but the gal that walked us to the bar (that's where our rez was for since the tables were all taken by large parties) was very sweet. The vibe changed tremendously because we lucked out having Sean as our server at the bar. He was friendly, helpful, and very professional. Like we were his aunties and was happy to see us there! We ordered the lemon drop cocktail and screwdriver to start. Sean returned saying didn't have enough OJ so would I be okay with pineapple juice? Okay I said I'll give it a shot. Yummy! We renamed it --- a Pile Driver Onto the main lunch course. She ordered the Poached Kanpachi, cooked in coconut milk, curried rice, celery and herb salad with roasted cashews yummy and a vinaigrette dressing. Nice size and took home about half. Only thing is this time there didn't seem to be enough of the "gravy" or coconut milk so Sean kindly asked the chef for some on the side and the Chef was nice enough to actually come out to confirm what she wanted. Sean then brought her extra sauce and yummy to the tenth power! As for me I ordered the specialty of the house- the French dip with the side of pho. Beautifully prepared on a crusty bun and tons of Chinese parsley to boot. Dipping sauce was perfectly prepared and not too hot. The pho was a nice sized serving so I had to take most of it home. No dessert this time, but I had to see the bathroom based on other reviews. So I took a peek inside and see pic below. We also wanted the mussels but they were out. For lunch I had the Pho French Dip. It is delicious.. a little messy but oh so good! Son tried the Garlic Noodles W/ Mushroom & Poached Egg and it was amazingly delicious! So after trying to come here for 5 years, we finally got a reservation. It got to the point where it was a joke whether we should get our airline tickets, hotel or restaurant reservation first. Keep in mind we only come to Oahu every 8 months or so and COVID was involved... It was worth the wait! This place seems to be very popular with the locals and it was hopping on the Friday night that we dined there. My favorite dishes were the perfectly cooked Hokkaido scallop (served over green curry, fragrant mint, lime and puffed rice) and the comforting and very flavorful Bo kho papardelle (essentially a beef stew served over noodles). An appetizer dish I enjoyed was their take on Bahn Beo Chay. This savory vegan steamed rice cake was flavorful topped with chopped shiitake and crispy mung beans in place of the traditional dried shrimp. The mussels were yummy and the fries were perfectly crispy, loved dipping the fries in the broth. The banh mi was probably the best banh mi I've had. Everything was seasoned perfectly and the baguette was still so crispy, would love to go back to get this again. To finish off we got the shave ice and the sundae. The sundae was peach and milk tea custard, so yummy! However the real winner was the shave ice, it was flavorful with a little bit of salty and sweet. I can't believe I have never reviewed The Pig & The Lady? Say what! Where do I begin? This restaurant is located in the heart of Chinatown in Honolulu and is an absolute gem. With Chef Andrew Le at the helm, the restaurant offers a creative take on tradition Vietnamese flavors and dishes and has grown in popularity over the years. They have been named one of the best restaurants in Hawaii and continue to impress with their inventive dishes. My first time here was back in 2014 and I have been a fan ever since. Upon entering their doors, you'll notice a mix of modern and eclectic design that blends industrial elements with unique, artistic touches throughout. During that first initial visit we got their bahn mi and pho. They have one of the most flavorful phos I have ever tried. The broth is rich with many layers of flavors that develop over many hours of cooking. It's a must try. When we finally visited again back in September. My other half got the pho again and I got my favorite Le Fried Chicken (LFC) Wings which is twice fried and comes with makrut leaves, pickled onion, peanut, and doused in their money $$$auce. From the very first time I tried this dish, I fell in love. Chicken wings are one of my favorite things ever and this was the most unique, flavorful take I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Fish sauce and wings? MONEY, for real. I was mind blown and still am. I crave this all. the. time. So much so that I packed my left overs and brought it home to Maui, lol. They also have fun soft serve flavors that rotate frequently. I got a PB&J soft serve at their sister location a while back and loved it, so I decided to try the apple pie soft serve. I probably only eat here once a year for my bestie's birthday because it's one of her fave restaurants; as she once said, "They're one of the few places that does Asian fusion right!" Their menu changes with each season but they always have their staple items like their LFC Wings and Pho French Dip. I recommend buying one each per person of the bites. The venison one surprised me the most. I thought it was poke, had no idea it was red meat. The special of the day--the hamachi collar was sooo good. The belly was too fatty for my taste but the collar itself was meaty and super fresh, not frozen. The biggest collar I've ever had. Perfectly grilled and glazed. Caesar salad was heavy on the dressing and had a strong mustard taste which we liked, especially the blackened rice crisps on the apple, but if you don't like a strongly dressed salad, I would choose the papaya salad instead. Glad we made reservations. Friday night and a line outside. We were seated quickly and water glasses were never empty. I wanted a egg custard coffee but they only had he espresso. Still yummy. We ordered the Octopus appetizer, cabbage appetizer and the wings. We shared a bowl of the dac biet pho. The wings are a must have- crispy, sweet, savory, juicy... youll clean the plate and fight over the last peanut! The Octopus-it was so tender that unfortunately part of it was mushy. The lu'au sauce had an off-putting aftertaste. Too bitter and fishy. Get the cabbage!!! We should have ordered one each, it was so delicious! Tender and well seasoned. The deviled egg sauce-Addictive! It took a really long time to get the pho. Staff were really nice but we almost cancelled the order because we were afraid of missing our 8pm show ( reservation was at 6pm). The pho was too spicy for grandma. 4.5 stars for me. Went here off a recommendation from a friend and yea I can see why it's so popular. Not only is the food here really good, but it's also very unique. We got a few things and ordered them family style which I highly recommend. We got the parparadelle, the pork collar and the pho 75. I think these 3 made the perfect meal. Kind of pricey and the drinks were decent, the decor is cool and very casual. Overall a great choice for dinner. read more

I went there with my mom and since we didnt not have reservation we have to wait if a party didnt show up. This was my mom first time coming here. Amazing counter dinner seating experience - the food was delicious, and watching the chefs skillfully prepare the dishes while chatting with them was so fun. The menu is a take on Vietnamese fusion, and the everything is so flavorful - we ordered family style so that we could try as many dishes as possible and left with happy and full bellies. All my friends and family recommended we try Pig and Lady so here is my honest review! Located in Chinatown, this place is serving up some Vietnamese fusion cuisine that is sure to please everyone. We stopped here for dinner and got a wide range of the menu from various appetizers, entrees and desserts. We got the: Oysters on the Half Venison Tartare Toast and Mushroom Adobo Toast Potato Banh Xeo Le Fried Chicken Wings Bo Kho Papardelle Squid Ink Risotto Long Island Duck Breast The oysters were fresh and the pomegranate chili pepper water was a great sauce for them. For the toast, we loved the venison tartare but was not a fan of the mushroom adobo since it came off as more acidic than savory. I'm not used to potato in Banh Xeo, but the edges were crispy and the pickled carrots on top really made it a great dish. However for the chicken wings, I would 100% go back just for these since the fish sauce and pickled onions just make it so addicting to eat, along with the crispy skin. The pappardelle and risotto didn't stand out too much to me given it tasted exactly how I expected, but they were still solid dishes. I really liked the duck breast given it was tender, juicy, and had great sides and sauces. You need to save room for dessert here, with the Hanoi egg coffee and the soft serve swirl being just gets! The brownie was great too, but it can come off as bitter given it's made with dark chocolate. Overall it was a great meal and I definitely recommend trying it if you want a more upscale dinner in Chinatown, specializing in Vietnamese fusion cuisine! LE Fried Chicken Wings - 4/5 More like a whole chicken than wings. The meat had a strong bamboo flavor I didn't enjoy, but the basil and pickled onions paired really well.
