Welcome to heaven! I've lost track of the number of times I've visited. Let me make it easy: it is all good. Really. Even the hotdogs. But you don't come to a BBQ joint for hot dogs. Just follow my advice: Get a two or three meat combo. Get the bacon mac n cheese as a side. The beans are great too. You will be fine. Trust me. The meat is high quality, perfectly cooked/smoked as the case may be, and delicious. If they are offering grits with the bacon jam, get them. You will thank me. They are a small business, locally owned (and I think veteran owed too). Patronizing them employs regular people who pay their taxes and are working hard for a better life. Two small nits - no kids menu and no green veggies except kale. When my kids were smaller, the one-size fits all portion size was a bit much. Now they eat me out of house and home. And no green veggies other than kale. I wish they could have a side of green beans. Still, this is a 5 star place all the way. read more

This is a great BBQ place right in Wallingford. The staff are always nice and friendly here. And since our last visit, they have expanded and now have a large dining area. This gives this place that extra touch that it needed. Now onto the food! What can I say - the make great BBQ. I've tried a variety of their meats before and they are all good. They have a nice selection of BBQ sauces that you can add to your meal, with options ranging from spicy to sweet and tangy. Their collards, Mac and cheese, and cowboy beans are excellent and never fail to please when you take them to a gathering. Yes, they cater and they are reasonably priced. On this particular chilly, Fall day I opted for their chilli and a side of corn bread. The chilli was piping hot and tasted great. I added in some spicy BBQ sauce to kick up the heat and that made it perfect. The corn bread was a tad dry (but I'm yet to have excellent corn bread anywhere). My husband got the brisket sandwich with collards and it was big! Didn't stop him from wolfing it down, so needless to say, he loved every bite. We'll definitely keep coming back here. read more

Came back for dinner recently and at first I didn't see a sign so I was disappointed at the possibility they closed! However, as we pulled closer, we saw a sign on the ground propped up and they are definitely open!! They've even expanded seating into the unit next door. Very nice set up with lots of sit down eating. My one suggestion would be to specify you still order at the front and then sit. We weren't sure if it was table service as well and it doesn't appear to be. Once you order at the front, we sat and our food was brought to us. My family recently visited this establishment, I waited a couple of days to write this review to gather my thoughts. The food was okay but the atmosphere was a little uncomfortable. Being from the south, my spouse and I were excited to find a BBQ place here in CT. My partner ordered the burnt ends platter and I ordered the two meat combo opting for the chicken and beef brisket. We both ordered Mac and cheese as our side. The food was okay, albeit a little salty, specifically the collard greens which we didn't know came with either my or my spouse's meal (we never found out whose meal it came with btw). My experience wasn't pleasant, honestly it was borderline uncomfortable for several reasons. To start, when my family walked in, the lady at the front smiled but wasn't very friendly; she was very to the point and seemed confused by my question of if I could substitute one side for another, as if what I was asking was ridiculous. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, just strange because we've never comes across this before but, while the restaurant is filled with flags from the different military branches and they have military decorations all over the place, they don't provide military discount; strange considering other restaurants that have military decorations do. I guess the staff here just isn't friendly because the worker who brought us our food also wasn't friendly/pleasant. When the food arrived, my spouse mentioned how pleasantly surprised we were that they provided collard greens with the meal (because we didn't see that mentioned on the menu) the worker just looked at us confused and walked away, there was no type of attempt to be engaging or anything. My low rating is mainly for the dining experience and awkward staff. The food is average but it's not terrible either; it's worth a try though just be prepared for some potential awkwardness. read more

This place knows how to make the good stuff. Dan was immediately charming, introducing himself, telling me about his background, and giving great suggestions - all without being pushy. But the taste! I opted for the Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich ($7.99), which was so juicy with a bit of sweetness. I love the slaw on the sandwich, as well. This sandwich literally melted in my mouth. As a bonus, Dan also offered free samples of the Smoked Mac and Cheese and Cowboy Beans. Both were really great and offered something unique beyond these traditional sides. I definitely wanted to eat more of both of them and felt spoiled. The prices are better than the big guys in Hartford and more personal. I hope this joint is able to expand and thrive! We were traveling to the area and called in advance with a few questions. SUPER friendly staff, and they set aside an order of burnt ends for us (apparently these often sell out). We got the Burnt End combo and a PigMac, then some ribs to try. You can buy single ribs too, and they don't overcharge for that convenience. On our way back through going home we got some more ribs and a large side of the smoked mac (that came on the pigmac). This is good stuff! Super tasty, not greasy. Must try!! Prices are great here. In my area ribs can run twice as much for lesser goodness. So while a connoisseur of fine BBQ might not rave over this, I give 5 stars because everything was delicious and served up by nice people. Sweet potato bread delicious - never had it b4. The pulled pork was very good. Would have liked an option for a bit of sweeter sauce to go on it. They have very nice employees here that are always willing to help you decide what you would like to order especially if it's your first visit here ! They have dessert to pick from in a case and TV's to watch . They have several menus posted on the walls and by paper . They have many items to choose from and specials . We decided on a pulled chicken sandwich whick was pretty good. They have a solid selection of sauces to choose from mild to heat . The smoked Mac n cheese wasn't as tasty as I was expecting but creamy . The collard greens weren't my favorite,but the potato salad had me ordering another. Hubby & I tried the brisket and smoked chicken thighs today. The thighs fell off the bone and so delish. The brisket I wish was more in pieces it was chopped making it more like a pulled version. We ordered three dinners , all were subpar. The brisket was pulled, not in slices, the ribs were room temperature and not the fall of the bone quality and the skin on the chicken thighs were rubbery. The corn bread was horrible, straight from the super market. The mac and cheese was dry and not enough cheese. The food did not appear to be fresh and one of the thighs had an off taste to it. All three meals were a definite miss. Also, the prices on the internet are priced cheaper than the restaurant. We have eaten at many BBQ restaurants over the years, this place by far is the worst. Let me start by saying that after reading the reviews I had high hopes. I was majorly let down. A buddy and myself went here because we both missed having some real bbq (he's from the Carolina's and I'm from Florida). First the good: The Cowboy beans were very well made, with a good blend of flavor. I had the version with the hot dogs in it. Also the pulled pork with mac & cheese was pretty good. Not the best I've had but by no means bad. Now the bad. The cornbread and sweet potato bread were CLEARLY store bought. Needless to say highly disappointed here. The main reason for going here was the baby back ribs, they were tough and hard to pull apart. I was hoping for fall off the bone and received near impossible to chew. And super dry. Best Southern BBQ I've had in the North by far. I was starving one day while driving home to Westchester from Hartford and started Yelping what was around. Very similar to previous reviews of bbq places here in CT. They're okay. They try. But the meat tends to be dry and has to have sauce which is usually too sweet and not flavorful enough. The cornbread is dry as well and none of the Mac and cheese has the crusty burnt cheese on top and just tastes like it's made with Velveeta. But if you're looking for bbq here in CT this place is decent and isn't the worst. BBQ is hard and I recognize that which is why I give Pug Rig a 3 - if someone wanted to go here I'd say yes. read more

Pig Rig is the real deal for good, well made Barbecue in Wallingford. I often get their 2 meat platter because I feel like I can never get enough of their Pulled Pork. The Mac and Cheese is wonderfully creamy and flavorful, as well as I love the little loaves of corn bread or sweet potato loaf. Additionally, all of the offered barbecue sauces are awesome, but my favorite is the Carolina sauce! While I find their food to be very good and we do go there pretty frequently, we often spend around 40-50 dollars for 2 of us, which can be a little steep when you're just stopping in for a quick meal. Their prices are a little high, but you will not be disappointed with your meal. I have brought my entire family to try Pig Rig, and all of them agreed that it is one of the better Barbecue places in Connecticut. read more
