I had some…read moreexperience with Pilates/Barre before starting private sessions with her, but her guidance and expertise has made all the difference for me, especially as I worked through a hip injury. Fit For You is a must add to your workout regime or a great place to get started and take control of your physical wellness. If you strength train, I think a Pilates session once a week is a great addition to your weekly routine. I truly believe that the programs at Fit For You have made my core stronger, as I've seen advancements in my yoga practice, and it has helped me maintain endurance in strength training. It's really the best way I've found to tone and build muscle stamina. The private sessions solo or with 1-2 others on the Pilates Reformers will help you feel your best by working on areas that you want to target. It's a total body program, but you always can say if you want to focus more on upper or lower body. And even though this is a low impact exercise, it doesn't mean you aren't going to work. She'll sneak in some killer motions that you'll feel the next day and she won't put you on a weight that's too easy for you. I like reformer best for core and arms, but if you really want to focus on your lower body, I would mix in some of the barre classes that the studio offers! I partially dislocated my hip in a different exercise program and Alysa helped me slowly regain strength and get back into exercising safely. She is very knowledgeable and trained about movement and offered helpful advice for at-home stretching and modified exercises. It's been about 5 months since I was cleared to fully exercise again and Alysa still checks in with each movement to make sure it's not putting pressure on my hip.

Seymour & the Valley is blessed to have this offering to it's community. The teachers are loving, personable, knowledgeable,and compassionate. I've taken classes with Phoenix, Charles & Rebecca and each has uniquely elevated my practice. The studio is warm and very inviting with a max capacity of roughly 12 in studio 1 . I very much enjoyed the creativity and personal touch each teacher brings to the mat and appreciate the fine balance of personal attention the teachers offer up. The decor is very simplistic and the bay windows shine in just enough to cover the floor in natural light. The pricing is more than reasonable compared to other studios in Fairfield County and the caliber of teachers far surpass any instructor I've experienced at the Edge, LA Fitness or Planet Fitness. I would venture to say the class might have been a little challenging for very new beginners, but Ann gave lots of options for modifications for newer or more advanced (in terms of asana) practitioners. If you are new to yoga (and are not familiar with the sanskrit names for poses), I would recommend placing your mat in a place where you can see other students, as Ann did not demonstrate. I also found the temperature and humidity in the studio to be ideal for my preferences (on the warmer end of hot yoga, but a little shy of bikram conditions) and thought the practice room was clean and peaceful.

Polefly is essentially where I fell in love with the art of pole and Jess has set a standard for instruction that I've looked for in every studio I've attended since. She is highly technical and understands the mechanics of the body in a way that makes you feel really safe while you practice here. Poling can be scary but I never felt worried about injury at Polefly because Jess is very thoughtful and careful, she plans the lessons around you and your body, meeting you where you're at while still challenging you to try your best and push yourself a little more each time. Despite all of her extensive experience and technical prowess, Jess never makes you feel less than. So much of poling is as much mental as it is physical, and this space always feels and felt safe, supportive, and affirming. I grew so much here and I am so sad there are so many miles between me and this lovely space these days and always look forward to my next visit back. Our group is very uncoordinated but we still had a really great time learning some moves and getting some exercise. The studio is clean and kept up well and Jess is a great and encouraging instructor and doesn't make you feel like an idiot (even if you know you're looking like one!). I can't speak to the normal classes here but would highly recommend booking a private event for a special birthday surprise or bachelorette weekend!
