You will use your machine in ways you could never have imagined. The classes move quickly but you have the benefit of screens all around the studio demonstrating each move. Additionally the instructors are literally super human, cueing each move in rapid succession while making sure everyone has proper form. Whatever Julia is making, it's not enough, this woman deserves a raise!! I've taken approximately one million classes in my life and never have I witnessed an instructor care so deeply about form and provide one on one guidance while trying to run the class (my brave husband required more attention than the average bear). This studio is high energy and for all levels!

Power Vinyasa with Ann Monaghan was a wonderful class with a strong, beautiful flow. I would venture to say the class might have been a little challenging for very new beginners, but Ann gave lots of options for modifications for newer or more advanced (in terms of asana) practitioners. If you are new to yoga (and are not familiar with the sanskrit names for poses), I would recommend placing your mat in a place where you can see other students, as Ann did not demonstrate. I also found the temperature and humidity in the studio to be ideal for my preferences (on the warmer end of hot yoga, but a little shy of bikram conditions) and thought the practice room was clean and peaceful.

When I first signed up, the front desk clearly told me I was only committing to a three-month subscription and could decide whether to renew after that. That sounded fair--so I signed up. Four months after I stopped attending, I realized they had continued charging me $211.64 per month without a single courtesy call, check-in, or even a reminder. When I reached out, I was told the subscription automatically renews and requires 30 days' notice to cancel. This was never made clear upfront. It's sneaky, misleading, and feels like a deliberate cash grab. On top of that, their class availability is trash. There's a massive gap in the middle of the day, and all the decent class times fill up fast--making it nearly impossible to attend consistently, even if you wanted to. That lack of flexibility is a huge problem for anyone with a normal schedule. I've had far better results doing free Pilates classes at home on YouTube. If you're looking for quality, accessible instruction without the shady fine print, I highly recommend Move with Nicole and Issa Welly Pilates. Both are fantastic and totally free. Save your money. Save yourself the frustration. There are much better options out there that respect both your schedule and your wallet.

Staff are positive and always remember clients' names. (I'm terrible with names, so this is really impressive.) All of the instructors are excellent too! They're very knowledgeable and focused on their students having correct technique. If you're thinking about trying a barre workout, definitely check out Bar Method. It is VERY challenging and you'll feel AMAZING afterwards. The only drawback (for me) is that the studio is about 30 minutes away from where I live. I've been active my whole life, although less so for the last 4 years. Bar Method is an entirely different approach to exercise than anything I've done before. The focus on Bar Method is on small (tiny, even) isometric movements. By the way, "isometric" means "same length" and an isometric movement is one that engages your muscle without contracting it. I actually recognize a lot of the movements from when I did physical therapy for my back almost 15 years ago. Bar Method is completely different than any other workout I have ever done. It took me about 3 classes to adjust to the new positions and the flow of class, and for the first two classes I questioned whether I was getting a good workout. However, the day after class as soon as I got out of bed I could very clearly tell that I had. I wasn't really sore the way I am after lifting weights or running or anything else. Instead, I was a little bit achey everywhere we had worked. I could FEEL that my muscles had been worked. Over the last 5 weeks, I've noticed some changes that I really attribute to Bar Method. My arms are more defined, the shape of my legs is changing. I'm also sleeping better than I have in a long time. If you, like me, walk out of your first and second classes thinking "Eh, I'm not sure" I'd really encourage you to go back a few more times just to make sure you're not missing out on something that you really will click with if you give it more time. Through classes this summer, I had the chance to meet some of the Bar Method teachers. Bridget is the owner and has been teaching for a while. She clearly knows what she's doing in class, and has authority in her voice that makes you not want to quit even when whatever she has you doing is really tough. But practicing yoga at Danbury Bikram yoga has been an exception. I love it and I enjoy it. There is a feeling of a community. It's clean and cozy. They have plenty of classes and the instructors truly believe in progress vs perfection. And yes it's hot and very difficult but eventually managed to Pace myself for 90 min practice. After every practice I feel like a new person. I can't think of anything else but the practice. I totally recommend this place.

I was in serious need of cleansing after so much food & wine! I went to the 8am class on a Sunday morning. I got there early to find a large studio. It was probably the biggest Bikram Yoga studio I've been to. I've been to 2 studios in Michigan, and 1 in St. Augustine, FL. The actual room where we practice is small and fairly standard, but they had sizeable changing rooms for both men & women. They also seemed to have a room for instructors. As I was trying to figure out where the women's room was (since the instructor was elsewhere), I stumbled upon what looked like a bed and area for instructors to stay. Maybe its for inbetween classes? I don't know! It was a nice surprise to find out that on your first visit at Bikram Yoga Danbury, your mat & towel rental is free, a savings of $3. The drop-in class rate is $22, which is $7 more than my local Bikram Yoga studios. These are individually owned, so they choose their rate. The packages were also more expensive, and not as many classes are offered. Obviously this is based on demand, which I found surprising that the 2 Michigan studios have more than double the classes. The instructor was very nice, and good at instruction/guidance. I thought it was odd that she discouraged drinking water in between postures after the Eagle pose like every other instructor allows. She said it's a distraction & we should all be hydrated already if we're drinking the amount of water we should be drinking. So, basically it's almost pointless to bring in water. She called me out for drinking water (not by name though), and asked that we all wait until the final posture. It was a good class & I'm so glad I went. If you've been thinking of trying Bikram Yoga, go for it! Give yourself time to adjust, be patient with yourself and take advantage of the new student package. It takes at least 30 days to get the hang of it. It's good for you!

I am *that* person in the class. But you really can modify the workouts and adapt them to what you're capable of. 90% of the floor exercises are literally impossible for me to do correctly at my fitness level, so I just do whatever version of them I'm able to, or I skip to the next one. The coaches may gently correct your form, but they aren't going to hassle you - they respect that everyone in the class is at different levels. Plus, they can see how hard you're trying because everyone's color level (gray, blue, green, orange and red) is displayed on a board on the wall. So in my case, it may look like I'm slacking because I can barely do anything, but all they have to do is look up at the board to see that I'm in the red and am actually dying! It's comforting to have that up there to prove that I'm doing my best. Both classes, I've burned 500-600 calories, and the hour goes by super fast because you're switching pretty quickly between activities. It's great for people like me who usually get extremely bored working out. Afterwards, they email you your workout summary with the calories you burned, splat points you earned, etc. It'll also show up in the app if you have it. This is very helpful if you're trying to lose weight and are a calorie-counter. The unlimited membership is the best deal ($179 per month to go to as many classes as you want.) I signed up for it today and am really excited to start seeing results!
