We had never been here before and decided to trust Yelp's reviews and give it a try. The outside of the building had me a bit nervous and the inside was small, but cozy. Our waitress was wonderful and knew the answers to all of our many questions. I went with the recommended burger and my husband had the chicken fried steak. So good! The salad bar was small, but very fresh as well. I had the frips, which I had never had and I loved them! We will make a drive to Malad just to go to The Pines again. OMG. We were in the middle of a 3 week road trip when I exited Malad. Wait, while I savor the memory of the time spent in this restaurant. There was a charming young lady who waited on us, took some pix with my son. She insisted we do the Fripps, and also talked us into the hamburgers, but were they hamburgers? She said the cook had come up with this cream cheese pepperjack something or other and man, was it awesome! We still talk of Malad, the Fripps, those souped up burgers. Was craving for a burger on our way to Idaho and we found this place thru Yelp, and it didn't disappoint! The food we ordered were all great and the price is half of that high restaurant. Where do you get a meal less than $10!. I had the dragon burger and my husband had a French dip and they were both really good. My kid, who is very picky,for the first time finished his meal and didn't stop complementing how good his alfredo pasta was.. would difinitely recommend this place.. and not to forget, our waitress was very nice and attentive..kudos!!! read more

My friend and I were driving through Idaho and stopped at The Pines for brunch, and what a pleasant dining experience it was. This family owned and operated restaurant is a true gem in the area. They had a wonderful menu and reasonable prices, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner items all day long. I had a burger with some french toast...both were amazing. I knew Idaho was known for its potatoes, but The Pines' "potato frips" were quite possibly the best potatoes I've ever had in my life. It's worth the stop just for them! The portion sizes are massive, so we left very satisfied....I only wish we left room for dessert! read more

My family and I stumbled on the Pines for lunch en route from Salt Lake City to Jackson Hole Wyoming. What a great experience! The service was speedy and wonderfully efficient and our waitress was friendly and helpful. The Boss Hogg BBQ sandwiches were delicious (just the right ratio of twang and spice), the turkey/berry salad was tasty as was the burger. The accompanying sweet potato fries, onion rings and "fripps" - a French Fry and potato chip hybrid - were also delicious. Our preference is to "eat local" whenever possible while we're traveling. The Pines definitely fit the bill and provided us a fantastic alternative to "fast food." read more

Great little restaurant we found on way to West Yellowstone! My dad and husband both had the bacon cheeseburger which my dad said was the best bacon he's had and my dad can be picky! The frips (fried chips) were awesome, like the ones u find at the fair. Our waitress suggested the fry sauce which my hubby and the kids ate up. The boss hog was what my mom had along with sweet potato fries. Normally she only eats half a sandwich but almost ate the whole thing it was that good! She let me try the sweet potato fries and they were the best I have had. If u are passing thru on the 15, definitely make a stop!! read more

We (My parents, son and boyfriend) went to Malad to get what else?......LOTTO TICKETS. We were greeted and seated by a friendly waitress. She seemed to be running around alot, like staff was short. I ordered a BLT with onion rings, the meal was pretty good, but the toast was really hard and cut the roof of my mouth. The onion rings were fabulous though and I didn't even have to ask for frysauce, it was already on my plate. Mom and boyfriend got a burger, the bun was nice and soft and it looked like a handmade burger, not a frozen one, it was tasty. Dad got a salad, it looked very fresh and was pretty big. The food was pretty good, but nothing really special, I was really disappointed in my bread being so hard. The service was nice, but I could tell she was stressed and short handed. It seems like a friendly place where all the locals go, the waitress knew some of the customers by name and it had a very cozy feeling to it. read more

My mother, sisters, aunt, great aunt and 90-year old grandmother went to the Pines for an early dinner. It was a great experience. We were the only ones there. Very Broad menu. Good food. We had a great meal at The Pines! It is under new management and they are amazing. The food is fresh and delicious. We all loved the Pine Scones which resemble fry bread. I gave this place one star because zero stars wasn't an option. I must have been there on an off night because the food was terrible.It took 40 minutes to be seated and get our food. I ordered a rib-eye steak cooked medium. I got the steak and it was charred black on one side (the side they put down of course). The mashed potatoes were fine, but I paid $20 for a very thin (probably 8 oz) steak that was like eating leather. My wife go trout that was also over cooked. Her potatoes were so salty they were inedible. We left hungry and $40 poorer. We were in a hurry and didn't have time to dispute the terrible food. read more
