Stopped in randomly off I-15. What a pleasant surprise! My two sons and I all had burgers, which were juicy and tasty. One son and I had the frips, which are potatoes that are thinly sliced in the kitchen and cooked like fries. Delicious! Other son had onion rings, which were also delicious. My wife had soup and salad with "pine scones" - that's what the menu called them, but what came was closer to a scone-shaped doughnut. Still yummy. Try the Frips, thin corkscrew sliced potatoes lightly fried and really crispy. We stopped by on a road trip and passed up Burger King etc for something better and we were not disappointed! The person who served us was very friendly and the place is cute and immaculately clean. The CaliBurger and the Turkey Melt were both delicious. The beef was local and very fresh and the turkey was roasted right there. We shared a good, very green, little salad and "frips", a cross between fries and potato chips (this is Idaho, after all!) The owner and his wife were fun to talk to and very friendly. Just finished a fantastic meal at The Pines. We will definitely be back next time we're in the area! I ordered the chicken fried steak. The breading was delicious, the mashed red potatoes were perfect, and the broccoli was not cooked to mush like most restaurants. Steamed perfectly. The country gravy had a unique and great flavor. Husband ordered the Dragon Burger and oh. my. Heaven on a bun! We both tasted it and declared it the best jalapeño burger either of us has ever had! The cream cheese and jalapeño mixture was perfect! Best Country Fried Chicken/ Biscuits and Gravy EVER! My brother and I stopped off in Malad, ID to find a place to break-up the drive from Salt Lake City to Arco and we were in for a real treat at The Pines Restaurant! Everything was absolutely fresh and made to order. Our mother was from the midwest so we know a thing or two about country fried steak or chicken as well as biscuits and gravy. My mouth is watering just thinking about the meal. We ordered the country fried chicken which came with the most wonderful homemade Idaho mashed potatoes. The thinly pounded chicken was so lightly fried that it melted in my mouth. The crispy outside was well seasoned, but not overly done and the country gravy was absolutely perfect. Most places saturate this dish in oil and can often be greasy, but not here. I highly recommend the biscuits and gravy to anyone who is a fan. Their biscuits are the perfect consistency to match their fresh buttermilk gravy. We were in heaven! Even the side of broccoli was fresh and perfectly steamed. The service was extremely welcoming and the server made us a fresh pot of much needed coffee. My brother and I had such tremendous experience that we made a point to stop on the way back to the airport in Salt Lake before making our long trip back home to NJ. Driving through and seen the reviews. We ordered the shrimp dinner. The coconut sauce/dip is home made and gets 5 stars on its own! The fresh squeezed lemonade gets another 5stars! For me it's the little things and this diamond of a restaurant gets all 5 stars! We will make this a must stop for us when travel through. read more

We were on our way to Wyoming when we got hungry for breakfast and decided to stop past the border in Idaho. Seeing that The Pines was highly rated, we decided to go for it, and it did not disappoint. The decor is nothing to write home about if you're used to East Coast flair, but don't let that deter you. The food tastes phenomenal and the service was even better. The owners are a wife and husband team, and we had the pleasure of being served and welcomed by the wife. She was funny and such a joy! Some of the best burgers I have ever had! I Had the "Dragon Burger" its was an amazing combination of cream cheese jalapeños and beef. The flavors mixed into the best food I had had in a long time. We needed a place to eat on our way to Victor, ID. Searched on Yelp and ended up here! I ordered a fish sandwich and got a salad on the side. My husband got the Malibu chicken sandwich with some frips (our first time trying it). My daughter got the meatloaf and my son got a grilled cheese with fries. When the food came, we were so pleasantly surprised and happy with our meals. Everything looked fresh! We tried each other's food and loved that the sandwiches came on Ciabatta rolls. My kid's meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and broccoli was amazingly yummy. But we ALL loved the frips with fry sauce and the smoky ranch sauce! Kept stealing some from my husband's plate (heheheee). The waitress was so kind and attentive, too. Only reason why I gave it 4 stars is the temp in the restaurant at 8 pm is a little hot... This review is long overdue as it happened in the summer, when my family and I were on an RV road trip passing through on our way to several national parks. We were hungry, looked online and saw that this place had great food. We were nearby, so we stopped. It was midst Covid, we're from California where the cases were climbing. We were not going to eat inside. My husband went inside to order and came out quickly and said no waitstaff were wearing masks. He was told begrudgingly that someone would be outside to take his order. This waitress comes outside to our RV to take our order and she literally ripped us a new one. She goes on a tirade about our germ-infested masks, how people like us are dirtier than anyone in her restaurant, town, or state, how dare we question their no-mask wearing, blah, blah, blah. We were starving and had a large RV, otherwise we would have left. But, the food reviews were good so we sucked up her insane crap and eventually got our food. Came up from Roy to by a shot @ the $1.6B Mega (didn't win :'() and stopped in for a late lunch. Food and service was fantastic! Desi, my server was warm, hospitable and suggested the "frips" which were absolutely yummy! Even brought me some fry sauce to dip them in! I inadvertently left my payment card there and after arriving home, called The Pines. Brad Christensen answered the phone and was completely understanding and said that he had my card. I asked if they would mail it to me and he said "absolutely" As I was reciting my address and he said "Hold on, I am coming that way in just a few hours, I'll meet you somewhere and return your card" AWESOME! We met and I got my card! Great restaurant, amazing service, super tasty comfort food, AND....an owner that went far and beyond to take care of a patron! Ew. Went there for lunch. The interior is nice and clean. The server took our drink orders. I ordered a diet Coke. She left and came back a few minutes later and said they don't have any diet soda. Really? You didn't know that your place didn't serve any diet products? Weird. My husband and I got the steak burgers smothered in gravy, onions, swiss cheese, and mushrooms. It was practically flavorless and I had to keep adding salt and pepper. The nasty gravy was from a can. Blech! There were two mushrooms total on it. The side was canned green beans and mashed potatoes from a box which they may have added a few real potatoes to so it would seem more like homemade. It came with an o.k. biscuit with butter and honey. I would not return to this place. At all. It was absolutely not worth the money! read more
