Visited on our way through town on a VERY busy Friday night. The place was packed! Servers were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food took awhile to come out (which is completely understandable) but everything was fresh and delicious. The dragon burger was amazing. Teriyaki veggie plate was also fabulous. So the bacon burger was excellent and so were the frips. We also ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. The meatloaf had a very interesting taste to it with it tasting sweet.. the potatoes were just ok as well. The lemonade was really good too. Although the service was very slow they did their best to keep up with the lunch time and rush. The waitress made sure to give us the most popular sauce that you dip your frips in. read more

The only thing better than the food is the staff. We dropped in after a funeral. With all the stress that comes from the loss of a loved one we neglected to call ahead to make arrangements for our large party. We decided to stop there on our way back to Utah because I had the best rainbow trout there several years ago. I was disappointed that it is no longer on the menu but ordered their butter garlic Salmon. Delicious! Hubby had their hamburger and fries with special fry sauce. He said it was the best! Always a great place to stop on your drive through from Salt Lake to Pocatello or from Pocatello to Salt Lake. Or you shouldn't forget to stop by when you're on your way through to pick up lottery tickets. The Pines Restaurant is a slice of pure Americana. The menu consists of wonderful burgers, salads, stuffed sandwiches and platefuls of standard American fare. Wonderful sized portions and if you're in the mood for a bit of adventure, you gotta ask for the "FRIPPS". Just good wholesome food that will fill you up and tastes great. We heard and read several awesome things about this restaurant and stopped on Saturday but never again! While the food was great the male server was extremely rude. He asked "is he stupid or something?" after he noticed my brother who has Parkinson's having a hard time keeping still. On top of that he took several breaks to sit while in the meantime the pregnant little waitress was rushing around trying to serve and clean both her tables and his. Thankfully we weren't served by him as the tables that were didn't get their drinks in a timely fashion and we noticed him licking his fingers after serving some of the plates as well. read more

I keep trying to give this place a second chance but every time I go I'm disappointed. They used to have a salad bar but got rid of it. They also used to give free complimentary mini-scones after you finished your meal, however they do not anymore. The last two times I have come in the food just hasn't tasted that good. I feel like the cook(s) honestly aren't that experienced. The food is either over or under seasoned and the last time I came in, I paid $12 for a meatloaf meal. The portions were very small and It just didn't taste good, and I am not a picky eater. It was an order of meatloaf with a side of mashed potatoes and broccoli. All the servings were very small, (literally 5 small pieces of broccoli, a scoop of potatoes and a small strip of meatloaf.) I have leaving a negative review but I have given this place many chances. I know many people who really like this place and eat there often so maybe I just have bad luck. read more

Waitress was super friendly and funny as well - when asked what the soup of the day was, her reply was, "crème de air", which was humorously meant to say that it hadn't been made yet. They serve a great Reuben sandwich and Frips (homemade potato chips) served with a smokey ranch dip. The food was so good that I am hoping we are someday able to return. We met our friends here for dinner on a Wednesday night. Service was excellent. Kind of a down homey kind of a feel to the place. Started off with a Salad had the Atwood ranch dressing. Great salad bar fresh ingredients nice choices. Wifey had the chicken taco salad it was excellent. Mother in law had the fish n chips with the frips sort of a homemade potato chip. My husband and I take several trips a year from Ogden to Malad just to eat here and get lottery tickets (but honestly it's just foe a lunch date at the Pines).
