Pretty sweet deal if you ask me! So, this restaurant is hidden within Shaker Pointe at Carondelet, a retirement community. The only reason we went here was because we saw it on Local Flavor $15 for $30, but double-checked Yelp before purchasing. Yelp rated it 4.5 Stars (but with only 2 reviews). We took our chances and we are so glad we did. It's an early dinner place; dying down around 7/7:30. We ordered ribeye and mushroom & spinach stuffed chicken. Both were served with a choice of two sides (cauliflower, fresh green beans, rice pilaf, garlic mashed). All of the sides were very tasty. The chicken was cooked perfectly and really delicious. I'd order it again. The ribeye was flavored really well, but a little undercooked for medium -- however, that didn't really bother him too much because the flavor was good. There were bits of it that were grizzly, but overall, very good. We finished our meals with an ice cream sundae; the perfect blend of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream! We are excited to go back to try pizza night (we saw some pizza go out and it look deeeeelicious!), burger night, prime rib night, and maybe even another buy one, get one half off night! Young folks, it's well worth venturing into this retirement community to try some pretty darn good food!

Joe's Grill is not a place to go see and be seen. It's not where you go chasing the latest cult beer can release. One might look at it and think it's not a place to go for the food either. Those people would be wrong. Are there regulars in there, sucking down beers on a Saturday afternoon? You bet there are. If you get there early, you might even inadvertently sit in one of their seats. But don't worry about it. You're just visiting. They know you'll be gone before too long. Actually, if you order food, you might be at Joe's longer than you might suspect. The food is cooked to order, and it's worth the wait. The wings are seriously good. Now I want to go back and try the pizza. Actually, I want to try a lot of the things on the menu. I'm not entirely sure about the dining room. There's a pool table right in the middle. And while nobody was playing, I found sitting at the bar felt like a much more natural place to be. But this isn't the place to come with a group. They have beer on tap. But beer in bottles is probably a better option. Judging by the empties, It looks like they go through a lot of bottles, so I would expect product cycles through with some regularity. When drinking macro brews, I prefer them to be impossibly cold. But old refrigerators aren't quite up for the task. Still, that's okay. Because do you know what Joe's has that places with colder refrigerators don't? Character. And it's not a character that can be created or imitated. You can't artfully decorate your way to a soulful bar on a forgotten stretch of Central Avenue. But you should find a way to get yourself there. For fried fatty foods, beer in bottles, and some classic rock on the jukebox. It feels wrong to take an Uber or a Lyft. Maybe you can have the car pick you up or drop you off next door, and you can walk the 90 feet to Joe's. Then maybe you could feel like you're part of the neighborhood. More than anything else, this is a neighborhood tavern. And Albany's taverns are this region's diamonds in the rough. They may not look like much, but the culinary and cultural wealth they hold inside is staggering.

It's hard to stuff salmon so the stuffing was centered in the middle of the fish to give the appearance of it being stuffed. The stuffing along eaten together with the fish; each piece was a tasty morsel. We also got with dinner a soup and a salad which was &6.50 more but well worth it. The salad had carrots, cakes, red onions, cherry tomatoes, and mushrooms in it. As for the soup I got the steak and potatoes which had lots of my tender steak in it that seemed to be more like brisket. Not many potatoes but enough vegetables and tasty broth so who needs more potatoes. With the entree I had a baked potato with butter and sour cream. I would have liked the potato cooked a little more and at a crisp but who's to complain for the price and all you get that doesn't make or break my meal. I can't wait to get back there again. I got an ice quickly ordered the All American Burger ($13 plus tax) with fries. My food was served to me in 12 minutes after ordering. The burger was served open face with tomato slices, crisp lettuce, red onions, blue cheese crumbles (my choice on top of a firm fresh grilled beef burger patty on a soft toasted bun. The hot golden coated fries were typical crisp outside and soft inside, ketchup cup provided on plate (could've used a bit more). After I was finished, I got the check which was $14.04 with tax before tip (paying cash) or $14.60 with tax before tip (paying by card) and of course I went with the green option. My only complaint of the evening was the TVs were a bit loud for the size of the "crowd" there - probably turned up to overcome the boisterous golfers who show up after their rounds. The wife and I ordered the Chile Lime Shrimp street tacos. So, so good! Flavorful, and a surprising amount of spicy heat - we made some faces but couldn't help but continue eating that deliciousness! Topped it off with a tasty Speckled Pig Brewing "Restitution" IPA offering and a Guinness for the wife. I don't even like IPAs typically, but it was excellent. Service was incredibly friendly and attentive. While we waited for our food to come out, we received a surprised visit from "Connor, the emotional support dog". I love animals, so I laughed when he just appeared at the table. His owner, who I assume is the owner who runs the restaurant, wasn't too far behind and apologized for the dog's intrusion on our evening, but since we're animal lovers, it was very welcome. We chatted with the owner and visited with Connor, who was such a calm and sweet dog. When our tacos showed up, the owner excused himself and Connor to let us eat. The woman who greeted us when we first came in also checked with us near the end of our meal to ask how we felt about our meal. We had a wonderful time and both of us expressed how impressed we were with our tacos. A second beer for me, and then our most difficult decision was what to try for dessert. The young lady waiting on us gave us a dizzying array of options, all of which sounded excellent, but we settled on a lemon raspberry cake option. I hope we didn't moan too loudly as we enjoyed it so much. Our experience was so enjoyable. Since my first experience, I've returned several times over the past year, and each visit has been consistently excellent. The cocktail menu is outstanding, with a great selection of creative drinks. Their espresso martinis have become a favorite for my friends and me during our girls' nights out. The food is just as impressive--the appetizers and entrées are rich, comforting, and full of flavor, with plenty of indulgent, cheesy options that never disappoint. One of my favorite places to dine is the Library at Backstage Pub. It offers a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes every visit feel special. But after eating there I found they have curated their own unique versions of the classics. For dinner I got the Backstage burger and upgraded to poutine fries. Now I'm not the biggest fan of a traditional poutine but I wanted to try it anyway because it looked good. The burger was cooked perfectly and the beef they use is very good. The poutine fries were enormous and apparently only half the size of a full order. If you like poutine you'll probably be into them but I thought the gravy was a little thick and not that flavorful and the cheese curds didn't melt as much as I would have liked. The real sleeper hit though was the Mac & Cheese. I wasn't expecting anything special and was pleasantly surprised. Definitely would come back for that. When we showed up it wasn't too busy but they were full by the time we left and I got the feeling that reservations are preferred.

It felt more natural, cabin-like, combining well with the shrubbery, paintings with big frames, natural lighting from windows, and giant mirrors. The place was small, packed, and loud with people and background music. That's my only minor complaint; it was quite loud from all the people and everything was tight together, and I think the music was good, but would be even better with some more abstract, atmospheric score. This isn't the place to watch the game; there's no TV's. But it is the place to order a fancy cocktail or a Banana Bread Old Fashioned. And there is a bar. THE SERVICE I happened to know our waitress from high school on accident and she was wonderful. We were checked up on frequently, our food arrived fast, and the conversation was enjoyable. THE FOOD I ordered the Mickey's Riggies, a Rigatoni dish in marinara sauce mixed with peppers, chicken, mushroom, and Parmesan cheese. Flawless. If you've never been to Emry's Garden, you're missing out on the cutest little space! It's absolutely beautiful, filled with greenery, quaint décor, and so many cozy touches. It has such a warm, inviting feeling the minute you walk in. They also had live music that night , so the patio was definitely bumping! We were seated right away and our drink order was taken quickly. We started with a dozen oysters and the Ahi tuna appetizer. The tuna was very similar to an ahi tuna nacho--and WOW! Absolutely delicious and something I will 100% be ordering again! We were a little disappointed that they didn't have mignonette for the oysters, but honestly, the oysters were still completely delicious! By the time we were ready to order another dozen, we were told they were sold out. But honestly, I wasn't surprised--the restaurant was packed and it seemed like every table was enjoying those $1 oysters! Our server was very sweet , although the service was a little slow. I'm guessing that had a lot to do with how busy the restaurant was that evening. Oyster lovers, take my advice: Order more than a dozen right away!
