Besides the location and staff, the best part about it for me is the dry sauna and the stationary bicycles facing the windows. I'm also super stoked that it became 24 hours starting this month/April...at least the main workout area is. The only cons I've experienced so far are: 1. The showers were only cold water at the time I tried them - but, in all fairness, it was end of a Sunday and lots of kids there. 2. There is only one Hip Abduction & Adduction Machine/Dual Inner/Outer Thigh Machine and someone is always using it. Despite being at the gym for hours, I've never seen it open so I have to use my thigh bands at home. There really needs to be two of them. Many of the machines around it go unused so they could easily be swapped out for a 2nd Dual thigh machine. Otherwise, this place is great and I feel safe when I'm there. Since it is such a nice YMCA, I can see why it gets so busy at certain times. I adjust my workout time when I can to avoid the crowds, but I understand that not everyone can do that.

I work with them individually well also in a group to be able to get them to swim safely. The changing rooms were very nice and quite clean and private, which was really great as well. Everyone was super nice and super welcoming and we really had a great time taking some lessons there. I would join the YMCA if I didn't already belong to another gym though, because it looks like it has a heck of a lot of stuff. Even a climbing wall! And lots of classes and activities too! Might have to look into that sometime soon!

This is a place that I've driven past a million times and always sort of meant to give a chance…read more This week I took my four-year-old to an open trial class they offered (fantastic idea) and we had a blast. As an open class sort of affair, there were a lot of kids in different age groups and skill levels. The instructors immediately noticed my very intimidated little one and worked to make him feel welcome and capable. He tried to keep up, broke down in tears once or twice about how hard it was, but kept trying thanks largely to the encouragement of the other kids and wonderful instructors. He made it to the end of the class and reported that he had a great time. He was drawn to a large trophy, was daunted by the idea of having to earn it over lots of time and effort. Yeah, I think this will be good. I did martial arts when I was younger and appreciate the value they have in terms of teaching discipline, self control and confidence. This place is great. There are different classes for different skill levels, meaning if you're interested at all there's probably something for you. I'm not sure if we have the opportunity to sign up at this moment or if we'll have to wait and do it later, but I'm definitely excited to do this again.

I signed up for this online free programming full of bodyweight workout I could do at home just to see what they offer. I never got to the workouts but I did look over them and liked them. About a week and a half later, I received an email from Dianne(the gym's owner). She wasn't pushy about me coming in and seemed genuinely interested in me as a person. I met her on a Saturday while running errands. Her and I talked about my goals, what I'm hoping to get out of her gym, what i'm looking for, and what the gym offers. All of it was amazing and I had such a good feeling from the gym. Upon entering the gym with her, the nutrition coach complimented me on my Lululemon shorts. This was a big bonus because we talked about why the clothes are worth the price and how it impacts a workout-when women feel good, they do good. In addition, I noticed someone had brought their dog and Dianne made sure to tell me dogs are welcome as long as they don't distract from the workout. As a woman who loves her dog, this was an awesome surprise! She also mentioned they have open gym and the "intro" class isn't some super long drawn-out course. I loved all of it. I tried out a workout the next day and LOVED IT. The coaches were helpful with ensuring everyone in the class had correct form and knew how to do each movement properly. They also made sure everyone in the class knew proper progressions and regressions for each movement. Me and Buddy(my dog) can't wait to join! He loved it as well.

Strong, caring, and fun community. Highly recommend for anyone in the area even if your just here…read morefor a visit.

I could tell I was getting depressed. So I started scouting out for a new box to go to. With the help of a friend I came across CrossFit Hampton Roads. I asked the owner for a tour when no one was really around. I was having major anxiety starting up again. Not exactly sure why, but I know my physical appearance plays a large role with it. Lindsay was accommodating immediately. I loved what I saw. The feeling I got when I walked back into the door was awesome. I knew right away that this is what my life needed. I knew I would hopefully get in by March after Spring break. Well it turns out I went to my first WOD at the end of April. I felt like I fit in immediately. I was not too nervous. It was like riding a bike again. I have chosen to scale as much as possible until I get get back to where I was. I did not feel ashamed to scale either. The location is great as well. I love that there is a lot of female coaches. Lindsay has already had two eating challenges/activities. I participated in the first which was the 800g challenge. I throughly enjoyed that! I love that she has things other than workouts. CrossFit is a wonderful atmosphere with wonderful people. You become friends then family. Overall a wonderful location, and I love what I see. I can not sit to get stronger mentally and physically.

I have been doing CF since 2008 and I travel frequently and get to visit several boxes around the country and CF Hampton Roads made me feel at home as soon as I walked in the door. The coach made sure to that everybody introduced themselves to me since we had a smaller class for the day. The facility is large and clean with plenty of equipment (rowers, airdynes, kettlebells of various weights, etc). The coaches are very knowledgeable and understand the reasoning for their programming. I asked several questions on their OPT-style of programming and was very impressed on the answers. They understand energy systems training, which few gyms I've visited truly understand. The coaches also provide informed warm ups and mobility geared towards the WOD--nothing extraneous. If you're in the Hampton Roads area, definitely stop by for a WOD!

I could not stand I could not sit everything hurt all the time. I tried acupuncture, deep tissue massage, fascia, relief, chiropractor, and EMS therapy, and even the massage gun. Nothing helped with the pain. During my fascia release appointment, she told me about Brian and the work that he does. I was very skeptical but I was in so much need of help that I decided and went for my one hour consultation. I ended up telling him I needed a few more months to think about it. however, one month later I messaged him and asked how soon I could get an appointment with him and sign up for a 12 week session. Within a week he had an appointment open for me. From that moment, I had a one hour session with him once a week for 12 weeka. during that time I did stop going to the gym to do weightlifting and instead I focused on natural movements such as running. After my 12 week session, (five months later, I ran my first marathon) a year after that I ran my first ultra (31 miles.) and just last year I did my first bodybuilding bikini competition. That 12 week session truly changed my entire life. I am pain-free and I still continue to do a lot of the movements that I originally did during that 12 weeks session and I feel great. A few months ago, I went back basically for a follow up session since I hadn't been there for a long time. We added a couple new routines to help with my internal hip rotation. So far, I have nothing but positive reviews. I have never felt better in my entire life and I'm 41 years old. The pain that I was going through was on and off throughout my entire 30s. Seriously, if you ever feel like there's no hope that your body is in so much pain and you don't know what else to do, reach out to Brian because in 12 weeks I tell you your life will change and you will never look back. The only thing you're gonna be thinking is I wish I would've done this sooner.. Brian and Liz are both amazing at what they do.
