Finally, after over 25 years of searching for a restaurant that serves pork-free gumbo, I have found one!!! The Poboy Shop at the Vail Headquarters near Kohl's in Temecula has Grandma's Gumbo made with shrimp, chicken, fish, and chicken andouille sausage! The roux is rich and flavorful and I love that it's not tomato-y like other recipes. The spice level is perfectly tangy without the burn. My daughter loved her fried shrimp bowl with a side of Mac n cheese and the hubby loved his catfish poboy sandwich. Service was friendly. We visited the rustic shopping center of Vail Headquarters on a Saturday in April 2026 and was welcomed to the sound of live music performers and families with young children enjoying the nice weather. So glad this previous ghost town venue seems to be revived and hopefully will remain alive for many years to come! read more

Honestly super disappointed especially after reading all the great reviews. The service, the food, the entire experience was underwhelming. I was craving a PoBoy today and i was so excited to see this place recently opened by my house, I came right over. First of all, the gps was confusing as hell. It took me to the next building so it took me like 10 minutes after parking to just walk around and find it, we ended up calling in to get directions. They're located inside the Cookhouse food court area and their name isn't anywhere outside the building. We go in, I'm trying to place an order of the Smothered Steak PoBoy and I ask if I can add fried shrimp to that. The guy says to me, "you can get whatever you like" so I say to him again that I want to add shrimp to the steak poboy. and then immediately after that he says, "oh we don't do that." OH OKAY so I can't get whatever I like He says if I want to add shrimp I have to get an entire BASKET of shrimp for $15. The shrimp Po is $12 so please tell me if that makes sense to any of you lmao. Just charge me whatever and add the 4 shrimp damn! I ended up getting the catfish poboy since he wouldn't sell me what I wanted. My boyfriend got two hot links and this man rings us up for two individual hot links with NO BREAD omg. We went next door to the tiki burger to get some bread for him. We also tried to order a dessert and he refused to sell it to us and said it wasn't good and it would mess up his reputation if he sold that to us. So please explain why you have it on display sir lol. And your reputation isn't doing that great to begin with so idk. When I got my poboy he did not warm up the bread so the bottom of the sandwich was refrigerator cold with the lettuce tomato and sauce being super cold, not having a toasted bread will cause the whole bottom of the sandwich to get overly cold. The catfish itself was not bad but definitely didn't live up to the reviews talking about reminding them of NOLA. please be serious. As we were finishing our food the guy at the restaurant gets a call and a lady is cussing him out for something, I heard "why the f would you package my food like this"... She was clearly upset with her experience as well which leads me to believe either the owner was just having a bad day or the restaurant is genuinely not that good overall. My boyfriend also told me he didn't like the way the owner/cashier was speaking to me. We usually just walk out of a place if the staff is rude but I was really craving this stupid sandwich lmao but no we will not be returning to this place. Sadly I thought this could become a regular spot for me like The Cuban Hut but unfortunately the whole experience was underwhelming and disappointing. EDIT: bruh i didn't have miscommunications and i'm not confused about why shrimp basket is more than a poboy. i never asked that. nor did i say that you offer protein individually. i said that's what the guy recommended i get, if i wanted to add 4 pieces of shrimp to the steak poboy. yall clearly have your own issues with communication if you need me to sit here and spell that out for you. not only was the experience a complete joke, your response now confirms that you weren't just having a bad day. you're not good at customer service and your food is below mid. i went to Da Big Easy a couple days later in Murrieta and their food and service is a worlds difference! definitely recommend everybody in the area to make that lil drive and get them some real food. read more

Absolutely delicious food. Flavors are on point. I've had the catfish poboy and their gumbo, both were excellent. My only feedback: that poboy was a monster, filled with all the delicious fixins, unfortunately that makes it pretty wet, and the whole thing fell apart long before I was done. Might need to tone it down a little, or switch to a denser bread to contain all that goodness :) read more

Located in a Temecula food hall this place offers Creole and Cajun sandwiches and New Orleans dishes like étouffée. I ordered the shrimp po'boy for lunch and it was loaded with shrimp. It was fine, I played it safe. On my next visit I'll definitely try the gumbo. read more

This place has the best shrimp poboy sandwich in Temecula and neighboring cities. Shrimp cooked to perfection bread, sauce and all the fixin's created a delightful and delicious combination. We just got back from a trip to New Orleans in April so thought we'd try this place out, given that they are right next to The Local Provisions where we like to go frequently. We ordered the Red Beans and Rice with a Hot Link Sausage, Shrimp Po'Boy, and the Chicken Ettoufee. I ordered a medium size for the Red Beans and Rice and they were generous enough to give us a large one as they were just using a plate to do a photo op. The Etouffee seemed to be the highlight, bursting with flavor, and the chicken was smoky which i loved. The Red Beans and Rice, while delicious, seemed to be a bit too salty compared to what we tasted in New Orleans, where it was more smoky than anything else. Wasn't a big fan of the Po'Boy, but to be fair, I didn't really try one in New Orleans to really compare, and it was one of those just to say "I've tried it." It's interesting how well the all-dressed concoctions (mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle) goes well with something like fried shrimp. Shrimp sizes were pretty generous, and while I did like the bread, I'm not quite sure it matches what is used in New Orleans, even though as mentioned above, I didn't get to try one over there to really know and compare. Overall, we'd come back just for the etouffee alone, and also try other things. read more

I originally came in planning to get shrimp tacos for lunch, but I'm so glad I changed my mind. I spotted this little spot called "The PoBoy Shop," and let me tell you... it did not disappoint. I ordered the fried shrimp po' boy, and it was absolutely delicious. It honestly took me right back to my trip to New Orleans, the flavors were fresh, authentic, and so satisfying. The shrimp were perfectly fried, and everything just worked so well together. The sandwich was a really good size for $12, which felt totally worth it. It also came with a side of their sauce, and that was a standout too, super flavorful and paired perfectly with the sandwich. My only complaint is that I live in OC and don't have this place closer to me because I would definitely be coming back all the time. Highly recommend if you're in the area! read more

Unfortunately we didn't get to eat here because we received horrible, combative customer service from the man at the counter. Not sure if he is owner but he was entirely rude, accused my little one of stealing a drink when she accidentally grabbed from the wrong refrigerator. We apologized profusely and attempted to make it right but he kept calling us rude, accusing us of not watching our kids, and that aree kids were stealing. Another worker from another restaurant was trying to help us because this guy was making a really big deal over an innocent accident and continuing to make wild accusations towards our little ones. I will never recommend this place and I truly hope the company moves on from this particular man or the business leaves Vail Headquarters entirely. They don't fit the family atmosphere that Vail provides in my opinion. read more

The Po'Boy Shop (The Gumbo Pot) is back in Temecula! I'm a fan of Cajun food and have tried it all over the US. (One of the best is in Frisco, CO of all places.) But, Gumbo Pot/The Po'Boy Shop competes with the best. And it's a Temecula family cooking their grandmother's recipes.
