I have a recurring ankle injury from trail running that I've been (unsuccessfully) self-rehabbing, and I've learned so much from my first few weeks of classes about my own body and why I keep hurting myself, and I'm excited to see how the running goes this summer. With my limited experience with friends who did Pilates I was picturing a froofy, "trendy-fitness" type of experience, but this is not at all what this studio is about. The staff here is focused on body mechanics and balance, and I feel great every time I leave after a session. (Not to mention- they're right above Taqueria27- which is always great for a post-session round of tacos!)

It wasn't a super demanding class, most of the poses were seated and laying down although we did do some standing poses towards the end of class. I brought my own towel and a towel for my mat as well. I don't know if they provide towels, but if they do they weren't visibly displayed. Excited to come back here!

My favorite classes are the Riot classes - they're 45 minutes long and four rounds alternating between HIIT/weights and boxing. The instructors are all so friendly and each and every one of them go out of their way to make you feel included and connected. Rebel House has built a great community among their members and have fun challenges and themed classes for people to participate in every month. The space itself is beautiful, and they've created so many little touches to make their members feel so valued and loved. I'm lucky to have their Sugar House location within walking distance from my home!

By the time everyone settled onto their mats, Anna asked: "Is there anything you'd like to focus on today?" One yogi answered without hesitation. "Release." The whole room smiled. Same. One collective Om. A few Sun Salutations. Then we were off. The Guide: Anna Murray * Express 45 Anna guided us through a few Sun Salutations before gradually stepping back and letting us move through several on our own. There was no stopping. One posture became the next. One breath became the next. Before I knew it... we were halfway through. Once the body was warm, the invitations began. Side Angle. Half Bind. Full Bind. Bird of Paradise. You could stay exactly where you were... or keep opening. The music carried everything forward. Beach House. Rhye. ODESZA. Gregory Alan Isakov. Then, almost unfairly... it was time to come down. Forty-five minutes. Gone. At the end of class, Anna invited us to bask in our wholeness, our worthiness, the steadiness of our being, and then encouraged us to carry that presence into the rest of our day. The Tribe After class, I lingered. Showered. Wandered back to the lobby. Started talking. Dance came up. Anna had danced with the Salt Lake City Ballet. Another yogi studied modern dance. Of course. As fate would have it Jeff's wife has a yoga studio Amd he invited me to come by. When I got home I checked the Yelp reviews Amd their website. I didn't see "Yin" on the schedule so opted not to sign up. I played golf with Jeff a couple weeks later Amd he explained they call Yin, Surrender. Well I signed up for the $30, unlimited classes for 2 weeks... for new yoga people only. The website is very intuitive and all the options and special deals for first responders and military are detailed. When I arrived I was greeted warmly and felt welcome. In Vegas I got a sense of clicks and a cool kids vibe. Here it's family Amd warmth. The Surrender class was led by Taylor. She was very good. She took us into a spiritual journey, accompanied by traditional yoga appropriate music that help spirit out life's noises Amd allowed me to clear my mind Amd be present and in the moment. The room started out warm but now hot and then all of the sudden you realize you're sweating. Please note that Surrender is not about pushing or exerting yourself it's more about meditating and stretching. This is my first day in 4 years that I've taken a yoga class and I feel great!
