I have heard many great things about the porch and was very excited to go and experience it for myself, even brought a few of my friends. However my experience was less than pleasurable as when I walked in I had to wait for a hostess to return to their station for more than 10 minutes. Normally this would not bother me but I had made eye contact with the hostess who was in the kitchen talking to her coworkers. Even after recognizing I was waiting she continued to talk to them before coming back to her station. This was the least of my worries little did I know as when I was sat I received the worst service from Jordyn. From the get-go she made us feel like we were a bother. Never once did she ask if she could get us anything, if we needed anything, or if everything was ok, never struck up any type of conversation or even smiled or made eye contact with us. I can understand being busy and not having that much time to talk but she sure did make time to talk to the table behind us full of guys as well as the other table that was full of guys. Maybe she thought I wouldn't tip as well as the guys would, I can tell you after her service that was definitely going to be the case. She would walk by the table, not even looking at us and hurry and grab a plate walking away. My friend had to wait over 15 minutes for her drink to be brought to her and she didn't even order any food so while the rest of us were eating she had to sit there with just a water waiting for a simple drink to be made. I guess her drink was a little better however as our 24 ounce beer was only 16 ounces of beer and the rest was completely full of foam. I recognize this is not Jordyn's fault but after the service I was getting I couldn't help but feel if she had good service nothing would have bothered me. Twice I had to hurry and spit out what I was going to request to Jordyn as she would drop whatever it was off at the table and hurry and walk away not even bothering to ask if we needed anything and that is why, TWICE she had to turn around and verify what I had just asked. I can understand being busy that does not give the excuse to be rude. I can understand being inexperienced however she did great with the other tables. Maybe she was prejudice or sexist, I don't know but she definitely ruined me recommending this location to anybody. The porch is definitely a beautiful restaurant and gives that Instagram picture worthy, the food was delicious and I would probably order takeout just to avoid the service, as The Porch clearly does not care how their employees treat the customers. I cannot even exaggerate how much she made us feel unwanted and unimportant and although I don't need a waitress to strike up conversation with me or continue to stop by the table to ask if everything is ok, I would appreciate being acknowledged and treated the same way and given the same service that everyone else is receiving. read more

I wanted a burger. So I picked this place off of the reviews. It was noon during a week day and the place was really hopping. We didn't want to wait the 15 minutes for a table so we chose a bar sitting. Bartender came right over and took our drink order. Food was next. I ordered the fried pickles cause my sis had never had them before. Um. Over cooked. And when you over cook a chipped pickle there isn't much left after it's deep fried. She loved them again her first. But I had to apologize that this was not even close to what they should be. Bartender easily took them off our bill. I ordered their porch burger medium and it was really really good. The brioche bun was spot on. Next time I'll have them hold the camel back sauce and just have ketchup and mustard you know. Traditional. Sis got the Turkey Ruben She was asked if she wanted coleslaw or krout thinking it was going to be on the side. She chose slaw and was pleasantly surprised it was on her sandwich. My new favorite bar to say the least! So glad you guys opened in Tempe, I came in a couple of nights ago and was served by Aliyah who took excellent care of us! She explained the menu items and drinks to us and even recommended the Porch poppers and the fig mule and the expression martini which we loved! I ended up ordering the grilled cheese with pork and my boyfriend ordered the porch burger both were very delicious. Overall, the food was yummy but the energy and the vibe and the staff deserve a 10/10. It was pretty busy when we came in but Aliyah was very calm, cool, and collected and got us all taken care of in a very timely manner and was just a pleasant server to have in general. As a small business owner in Tempe it actually pains me to write this review. I take reviews very seriously and more often than not I don't leave a review that is less than 5 stars, I just don't go back. However, this place has POTENTIAL! The space, location and idea behind it is excellent. This is a real time review. It is Sunday FUNDAY and this place should be hoppin. At noon it was maybe 30% full. What!? So here is the experience (and yes we read all the reviews prior to my husband and I stopping in). When we walked in the hostess indicated she had just started and she was clearly tired and not feeling her best. Ok. No biggy. We sat on the patio and waited. And then waited some more. We waited 10 minutes before Morgan came to take our drink order. To say she was luke warm is generous. She appeared (I obviously don't know for sure) to either dislike her job or she is very hungover. And I believe it is as likely the latter. No smile, no "how's your day" nothing. We waited a bit for our drinks and considering wait staff was gathered near the station where they input orders chatting, there was no reason for less than prompt service (check the videos). We then placed our order. I asked for the avocado toast, no egg. When the food came out my toast only had avocado on it. I had to send it back for all the other fixings. My husband ordered the Mexican Bowl, his comment was that I looked good but was very bland. Morgan walked passed us after serving three ladies a bucket of champagne. We had empty glasses and plates. She kept walking. When she finally came back she asked to take our plates and then finally asked if we wanted another drink. We both ordered a beer. I asked for a tall, she said "so you both want a 16oz". Let's assume you guys have a tall or larger options and you're in the business of making money, what server who is in it to win it for your business offers your smallest option even if I hadn't asked? And if you don't have a bigger option say that so your patrons know you're listening. Sadly the staff seems to be the weak link and appears to be a consistent issue in the reviews. Again, so much potential but missing the mark. Boobs and pretty faces (another person stated the staff is hot, sure ok but..) aren't enough. The food here is really good, I had a burger, it would have been better if the cooks had gone easy with the sauce, it made my bun very soggy. Had an issue with service that is really important. We called ahead because our party was 8, they would not take a reservation, but did mention they had a large booth inside that was open. When we arrived, we had to wait a few minutes and then a group of 6 came right in and was sat immediately in the booth they said we could have. We ended up sitting outside due to no more tables available for our group size, and it was very hot and muggy. Unfortunately this really ruined the moment, and I didn't enjoy the place. It was apparent to me, someone who worked there had done a big favor for a friend, and customers really don't matter to this place at all. Absolutely loved this place! The environment and decor was really inviting and exciting! As a former host, I feel like they never get enough appreciation and I feel that especially after meeting Madison!! I was surprised to learn that this place was new because Madison was able to answer every question I had and made the best food and drink recommendations. I went with a couple friends and we all have varying food preferences and restrictions and the hostess Madison was more helpful than most servers I've had!! She knew it all. We got everything that she recommended and WOW. Just absolutely delicious. Half way through our meal, she even stopped by to see if we liked what she had recommended us. I was disappointed in The Porch yesterday! I made a reservation for large party and they told me it would be on the patio! I was fine with this as the weather is beautiful! The food was okay but definitely pricey for what you got! My moms chicken tenders were one second from being burned! My panini was good but again overly cooked and medallion sized instead of a sandwich! My brother ordered the roast beef sandwich with ajus and was given what we think was a reuben since it had sauerkraut! The server said this was the correct sandwich but it looked strange! Fries were close to being cremated! We asked for our bill and the server said since we were a large party of 12 she could only give us 6 checks! Obviously not acceptable and eventually she gave us separate checks! Anyway an odd ending to high priced food that was bearly passable in taste! I love their thousand island coleslaw but I won't be back for awhile! I don't think 12 people is so big a group for a sports bar that we should be treated like we were and sitting at picnic tables for a leisurely lunch is not my cup of tea! read more

We were so busy, today April 18, Sunday, and it was 8:30pm and we were hungry. I checked out late night eateries in Tempe and the Porch came up. I checked on several websites including yelp and all said that The Porch served on Sunday till 10:00pm. We arrived to see a couple who entered just before us leave. It was 8:50pm when we approached the hostess and she said, "I am sorry but the kitchen is closed." I said, "We just looked up all your websites and it said you were open till 10:00pm." She responded, oh yes, that is our close time. But just for tonight we are closing now." Not sure the owner knows what his staff is up to but they have taken over and closed his restaurant. Three more couples came in after us and were turned away. Don't think we'll go back. Obviously the staff had better plans than working. Be careful and don't trust their website hours. read more

Had dinner last night. Happy to be able to sit outside and enjoy a wonderful evening in Arizona. The waiter was very busy but tried to be attentive. The drink I had was good. We tried the ceviche which had some heat to it which I like but just not a lot of flavor. The hamburger and green chili mac and cheese were tasty the green chili mac and cheese could have used some more flavor pee my companions. I was super excited to try a new local place, especially during quarantine. I used door dash to order from The Porch. The delivery itself was fine but the food on the other hand was the issue. My son wanted to try the spicy chicken donut sandwich and I wanted the hot chicken sandwich. We both turned to each other almost in unison and said this literally tastes like nothing. My son said the chicken was drenched in sauce and tasted like nothing not even the donut. My sandwich was just completely awful. The slaw tasteless, pickles not even sour or pickley, the hot chicken had no seasoning not hot. I will say it had a nice crunch....of nothing oh yeah there were apples on mine which were kind of hard but no taste of green apple. The fries that came with my sandwich were white not lightly fried white! No seasoning like it's listed as "salt & pepper" nope they weren't invited to the fry party. Lastly we got the donut churros for a treat and they were just meh. So disappointed. Needless to say for the price of $40 will not be trying this place again. UGH read more

We were happy to find a place for lunch with outside seating. They take temperatures before seating guests. Service was very good. I wish I could say the same for the food. I had the Black and White Poke' Bowl. The tuna, beats, and sauce was delicious. The white rice tasted like it was made the day before and was very dry. The black rice was awful. Both were hard and chewy like old left over rice. Even adding the soy sauce I requested didn't help this rice. It was so disappointing. My guest had the salmon salad and said it was good. This review is not based off of food or drinks BUT I had to give a one star due to being on the waitlist for over an hour and then being kicked out. Last Sunday morning I went for breakfast, the hostess said it was be a 30-40min wait, we put our name and phone number down. You're supposed to receive a text when your table is ready but after over an hour of waiting it just kicked me out of line and acted as if I was never in line at all. Might be a tech thing but and I didn't ever go back up to talk with the hostess, instead we ate next door at the pizza place and it was amazing. Very disappointed. My wife and I just got some food to go from here. It was amazing! The Waffle Tenders were incredible! I normally don't care much for chicken and waffles, but these were a perfect interpretation of them. Not too dry, amazing flavor, and the red chili maple was great. We also got the grilled cheese with beef short ribs which was super flavorful. The Nashville Chicken Sammy was delicious too. One of the best chicken sandwiches that I've had with such good flavor and not dry like fried chicken so often is, the green apple slices on it make for a great crunch and complement the flavor so well. I was here on Sunday night. It was my first time at this location. Our order was taking a little long (at least 15 minutes for myself and a friend on a night it wasn't very busy) then all of a sudden the place is closing in 30 minutes because "there was some stuff going on down the street" (I'm assuming a protest). So that's all we were told by our server then about 5 min. Later someone who was not our waiter brought our food out in to-go containers. This was never mentioned by our waiter he just said they would close in about 30 minutes. I mean I hadn't even finished my beer. So we sat there and just proceeded to eat out of the to-go containers. It just felt rushed and it really ruined the whole 1st experience. I've been a server and worked in the food industry. I feel like it could've been handled better with better communication. I think maybe even it would've been nice for a manager to come out and also say something (but I'm not sure if places like this do things like that). Or at the very least take care of something. A meal, a drink, something since we just received it and we were now having to scarf it down from to-go containers) I'm very particular about my food and if I would've gotten nachos like my friend and then they told me I would've had to take it to-go I would've made them take it back because to-go nachos aren't going to be good once I drive 20 minutes back home. Thank goodness he didn't care and I got grilled cheese so I ate it then. The server seemed uncertain of things and overall communication was bad. Maybe something to train staff on or be aware of in the future. If this wouldn't have occurred I probably would've given 5 stars. Update: To the manager: You missed the point on what I was trying to say. I understand the safety part (however my friend and I walked around the block for about an hour after leaving and never heard a peep) my issue was the way things were handled when letting us know we had 30 min. left. Of course you've never dealt with that specific issue. Please understand the low rating wasn't due to the choice you made to "keep us safe" but had to do with how it was handled. read more
