    Turkey sandwich
    Susan W.

Some of the exterior shopping center restaurants are not yet open, but we tried this spot when we decided to checkout Wayfair as it's right inside. The menu is simple, but the food came out and was great looking and fresh tasting. The salad didn't offer much chicken, but was otherwise tasty. Similarly the turkey sandwich was a little skimpy on the meat, but was decent tasting. Prices were fine - more similar to the city than the burbs, but we thought fair. I liked that there were healthier options and the service we had was very friendly. You order at the counter and then they bring it to you. You bus your own tables when finished. I wouldn't consider this a destination, but it's a solid choice if you're needing a bite while shopping.

We stopped for a snack during our visit to Wayfair. The seating area is limited (too hot today to sit outside), and the menu is simple fare -- sandwiches, salads, mac n cheese. I was impressed to see some of the lo cal, lo sugar snacks we purchase for ourselves available at the counter. We purchased some refreshing strawberry lemonade and split a wrapped cookie bar (not exceptional- kind of dry). Still, the staff was friendly, and this was nice to have a rest and refresh.

My friend and I had wanted to check out the Wayfair store for a while and finally made the trek out! After wandering around we stopped in for some food. We split the mezze board and a turkey sandwich as well as the cookie croissant. We ordered at the counter and our food came out in 5-10 minutes! I am sure the namesake porch will be super nice in the summer but it was snowing when we went so we sat at the counter. I thought all the food was great. The sandwich was warm and melty and flavorful and the mezze board was a good size! I would say it's good for 2-3 people. The cookie croissant was fascinating to me; I have no idea how it was baked but it was delicious. There's cookie inside and out of the croissant! Prices were a little high but you are in Wilmette so it seems par for the course.

My Missus and I and a few of our friends visited the first-ever Wayfair store on its opening day, May 23. In-store dining is an old concept that's been enjoying an innovative spin in newer, larger retail stores, so we were excited about dining here. As the name of the café implies, the food and ambience are simple, casual and outdoorsy. You queue up at the counter to order and pay for your food, and a server brings the food to your table. The dining room seats 70 and the outdoor patio seats 20. The menu features light breakfast, brunch and lunch fare - snacks, sandwiches, salads, and bakery items. There are four 'handhelds' on the menu and we tried three: Triple grilled cheese ($9), chipotle chicken melt ($12), and California turkey club ($12). The sandwich bread, baked in-house we're told, is superb. Sandwiches are grilled on a press and served warm, accompanied by a pickle spear and a small bag of house-made potato chips. A variety of beverages are available, including several coffees and teas. Customers can help themselves to tap water. Our sandwiches were tasty and fresh, but a couple issues need to be addressed. First, many people have aversions or allergies to certain foods. My Missus cannot eat cheese, but all of the sandwiches here are premade and contain cheese. After a bit of back-and-forth on this matter, the kitchen prepared a turkey club without cheese, inexplicably leaving out two other ingredients. Second, the chipotle chicken melt contained a surprisingly meager amount of chicken. We brought these issues to the attention of a café supervisor. Hey, this was the business's very first day and I'm confident that such kinks will be ironed out over time.

A small cafe to stop in at the Wayfair store, similar to dining at IKEA but not quite as grand. It's mostly sandwiches, pastries, and coffee, with a few other small bites like mac and cheese. I believe I saw they serve wine too, if you want to sip and shop. I wanted to try a pastry, but by the time I got there at around 5 pm, they were almost out of everything in their bakery display besides a muffin and a sugar cookie. So I decided to try their macaroni. It was clearly microwaved, but actually pretty tasty. The Porch is certainly nothing incredible that you must stop in for, but it has decent food and drinks if you feel the need for something while exploring the store.

We came here for the wayfair grand opening weekend, and decided to stop by the cafe to give it a try. We got the turkey club sandwich, bowl of roasted tomato soup, iced Thai latte and a chocolate croissant. The sandwich is pretty tasty and the price is decent. The latte is not bad as well, just wish they didn't sell out of the honey lavender latte so I can try that one instead. The chocolate croissant is cold, it's straight out of the fridge. The flavor is not bad, but Prbly won't order it again. They do have different sandwiches options, salads, and variety of cafe drinks. Theres also an alcohol menu upon request which you can bring it along through your shopping trip as well. There're indoor and outdoor seatings, and good amount of seating available. After you ordered, they will give you a number and they will bring it to your table when it's ready. It's a nice casual spot if you just want to take a break from shopping at wayfair!

Nice spot to relax and take a break during a shopping trip. Great coffee, solid salads/ sandwiches and nice service/ambiance. Loved the chipotle chicken and California turkey club. They even have beer and wine!

Cobb Salad. Let them toss yours.

Valley Lodge Tavern has a classy but casual atmosphere good for groups and parties. A lot of the expected menu items. There's burgers and meaty things but also some lighter options. Big inside with a bar in the middle and tables all around. It's got plenty of room for large groups. There's also a pretty big patio. Gets crowded. Thankfully we were able to get seats at the bar and it was pretty fast to be honest. It's about $15 for a cocktail. Too expensive but good though. I got the Valley Lodge Signature, which is their main one of course. This is made with Chambord and Ketel One Citroen, along with cranberry, lime, and sour mix. It's about $17 for a burger. These are also too expensive but at least these come with a side. Each of us got the Classic Burger with a Beyond Burger patty. These have the basic toppings like lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. Has a lot of classic items but it's pretty expensive. It's located on Central Avenue among other restaurants and the theater. There's mostly meaty items but has some things for vegetarians.

It's located right down the street from Northwestern University's football stadium (whatever the heck they're naming it). This is a nice hidden gem in Evanston. Not located downtown, it may have a chance to stick around a while. As Jane V. noted in her review, you are greeted by a delicious smoky smell when you enter the restaurant. It was an inviting smell (at least for me), others in our group thought we were walking into a barbecue joint and were less than thrilled, but the menu put them at ease as it has a lot of options. There were five of us and one couple decided to share a couple appetizers as their entrees. They ordered the Cauliflower Buffalo Bites, and the Macho Nacho. They were huge portions easily enough for us all to share. However, my wife and I don't see eye-to-eye with our eating habits (she is mostly vegetarian and I'm a card-carrying carnivore), so she was not about to share the smoky wings and cheesy tots with me. I opted for the Chicken Vesuvio entree, and she and our other friend both ordered the Inside-Out Grilled Cheese. I would say most the sandwiches looked good (no portobello for me, thanks). I would say though, the desserts are pretty generic, so we opted out, but their is a door inside the restaurant to the donut shop next door (which was closed), but I wanted to try that place, so I'll have to make another trek out there for them and review them later. I'm amazed that the donut shop, DB3 Donuts, does not appear on their menu at all, despite having a connecting door from one establishment to the other, but alas, I've heard their apple crisp and brownie are good, but neither were too appealing that night. All meals were delicious and I definitely need to go back and try other dishes. And may DB3, if they are open. Give this place some love as it is a nice gem in Evanston.

So much so that I ordered the smoked Sampler plate, and was I glad I did. I started off with their Top O' The Morning special Saint Patrick's cocktail (Titos, Curacao, and orange juice shaken and poured over ice). I really loved this drink. My hubby had a Margarita that was just delightful. Our appetizers were: Angry Shrimp (really delicious) shrimp with a spicy tomato garlic sauce. Served over polenta cake. Ahi Tuna Wanton (mango jicama salsa, avocado, and teriyaki sauce) This should be their signature appetizer). The presentation is impeccable. It appealed to our eyes before the 1st bite. And,the first bite, as well as the rest, was wonderful. We would gladly return here just for this. Our entrees were: Grilled Salmon with corn risotto, grilled asparagus, smoked tomato aioli. The salmon was well cooked to medium, not too dry, and not too rare. The plate was well balanced and everything was very tasty. Smoked Sampler My favorite! Rib tips, brisket, pulled pork, Texas toast, cole slaw. For dessert: Chocolate Brownie Apple Crisp Both were so good that we did not want to share! The next time you are in the Evanston area, you really must stop in for their delicious food!

The first thing that hits you when you walk in is the smell, and it is coming from the outdated carpet. It is not subtle. It lingers throughout the entire space and makes it hard to fully enjoy the experience or even have much of an appetite. Older carpet is a real issue in restaurants. Over time, it traps dust, food particles, grease from the air, moisture, and bacteria. If it is not regularly deep cleaned or replaced, that buildup starts to break down and creates a heavy, musty odor. It does not stay contained in the carpet either, it rises into the air and essentially fills the entire space. The smell is so strong that it takes away from what would otherwise be a really good dining experience. Updating or properly maintaining the carpet would make an immediate and noticeable difference.
